We’re Saved: Taylor Swift Totally Backs March For Our Lives, Promises To Give Up Her Own Security

OK, I was kidding about that latter part. And Taylor hahttps://twitchy.com/samj-3930/2018/03/23/because-im-a-mom-2a-advocates-fire-back-at-gun-grabbers-on-whyicarry/s lots of security, and the chances are that they are armed

(Daily Caller) Taylor Swift showed her support for the “March For Our Lives” gun control protest Saturday with a financial donation and praise for the Parkland students.

“No one should have to go to school in fear of gun violence. Or to a nightclub. Or to a concert. Or to a movie theater. Or to their place of worship,” the 28-year-old singer captioned her Friday post on Instagram. She included a picture promoting the march that was started in response to the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that left 17 people dead.

Interestingly, all of those places have been attacked by Islamists. Why are none of these celebs calling for Islamist control? Especially when these same celebs typically have their own armed protection?

“I’ve made a donation to show my support for the students, for the March For Our Lives campaign, for everyone affected by these tragedies, and to support gun reform,” she added. “I’m so moved by the Parkland High School students, faculty, by all families and friends of victims who have spoken out, trying to prevent this from happening again.”

Oh, goody, she made a donation. Give up your own armed security, Taylor.

More here. I carry because I can. Because it’s in the Constitution.

Paris Climate Agreement Success: Global Carbon Emissions Hit Record High In 2017

This is the fallout from the super-historic, super-mega awesome Paris Climate (scam) Agreement

Global carbon emissions hit record high in 2017

Global energy-related carbon emissions rose to a historic high of 32.5 gigatons last year, after three years of being flat, due to higher energy demand and the slowing of energy efficiency improvements, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said.

Global energy demand rose by 2.1 percent last year to 14,050 million tonnes of oil equivalent, more than twice the previous year’s rate, boosted by strong economic growth, according to preliminary estimates from the IEA.

Energy demand rose by 0.9 percent in 2016 and 0.9 percent on average over the previous five years.

Over 70 percent of global energy demand growth was met by oil, natural gas and coal, while renewables accounted for almost all of the rest, the IEA said in a report.

In other words, people decided they weren’t going to pay for the Beliefs of the Cult of Climastrology. Also, they realized that so much of the alternative energy sources are unreliable when weather, especially cold weather, happens. Which is why so many people have taken to burning wood like it’s 1499.

“The significant growth in global energy-related carbon dioxide emissions in 2017 tells us that current efforts to combat climate change are far from sufficient,” said Fatih Birol, the IEA’s executive director.

In other words part 2, the Cult leaders want more taxes and more restrictions and more control of people’s lives, because Paris was a miserable failure (which is a good thing). Oh, and carbon emissions is an unscientific term.

Heat Trapping Gases Could Totally Cause More Spring Snow Storms

I see you eating your breakfast sandwich with its horrible sausage from evil carbon pollution pigs, that you picked up while commuting to work in your evil fossil fueled vehicle: this is all your fault, and you should be forced to pay a tax to solve this whole thing, according to the people that use vast amounts of energy and fossil fuels to distribute their dead tree edition newspapers (this originally appeared in the Washington Post, and reprinted at Syracuse.com)

Climate change may mean more spring snowstorms (Commentary)

Another week, another nor’easter — the fourth powerful coastal storm of March 2018 has the big Northeast cities in its crosshairs. The region is notorious for vicious winter tempests, but four bomb cyclones in one month seems a bit much, especially when one comes on the first day of spring. March roared in like a lion. What happened to the lamb?

My New England neighborhood is usually peaceful this time of year; the quiet interrupted only by honks of Canada geese, wind in the towering white pines and the occasional hoot of a great horned owl. Not so much this winter. Rumbling generators, whining chain saws and rattling snowplows lasted many days after each pasting by Mother Nature.

We New Englanders love to talk about weather, and we revel in our toughness, but even that is different this year. After comparing stories of fallen trees and property damage, the conversation increasingly shifts to “Why?” Is there an explanation for this relentless, persistent parade of destructive cyclones, storms so strong that if you didn’t check the calendar you’d easily mistake them for hurricanes on the weather map? Perhaps.

Some climate-change skeptics always use snowstorms to argue that the planet is not actually warming. President Donald Trump, during a sharp December cold snap on the East Coast, suggested that“perhaps we could use a little bit of that good old Global Warming,” which he has called a hoax. Last April, conservative news outlets rejoiced when snow canceled a march in Colorado to protest Trump’s climate policies. But rather than being evidence that climate change isn’t happening, the extreme weather the United States has seen this month should be viewed as a sign that it is.

Although the atmosphere is a complex beast, researchers are fingerprinting a variety of ways that those increasing greenhouse gases are making winter storms more powerful and more likely. It’s clear that this spate of nor’easters is being juiced by inordinately warm ocean temperatures along the East Coast, one of the key ingredients in the recipe for a good bomb cyclone. Less intuitive, though, is the increasingly clear role being played by the rapidly warming and melting Arctic.

Of course they’re finding ways to link cold, snow, and ice from storms that have always happened to the beliefs of their cult, because this is what cultists do. And when we have a mild spring, they’ll blame that on ‘climate change’. In their world, everything is linked to/caused by ‘climate change’, and this can all be solved with a tax on Other People.

America’s Gun Laws Cause Illegal Immigration Or Something

Hey, look, we can get gun grabbing and illegal immigration in one article, via the always nutty New Yorker

The Link Between America’s Lax Gun Laws and the Violence That Fuels Immigration

In the summer of 2009, a sixty-three-year-old professional bass fisherman from Florida named Hugh Crumpler III was arrested for international arms trafficking. For years, he’d been buying weapons, legally, at gun shows, and then reselling them to individuals from Latin America who wanted to smuggle the guns back to their home countries. Crumpler was what’s known as a “straw buyer.” “I developed a group of customers,” he said later, in an interview with Univision. “And it dawned on me one day that they were all Hondurans; and that they all seemed to want the same type of guns; and they all seemed to want more and more.” By the time he was caught, Crumpler had resold roughly a thousand guns, including Glocks and AR-15 assault rifles. He eventually agreed to coöperate with American authorities in exchange for a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence. According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, some of the guns Crumpler sold were used in crimes in Honduras, Puerto Rico, and Colombia, including in at least one homicide.

We have laws against this. Crumpler was eventually caught and prosecuted. If only criminals followed the law.

Interestingly, there’s zero mention of the Obama/Holder gun running program, Fast and Furious.

The ready availability of guns in America is often discussed as a domestic-policy matter. But it is an international issue, too. Every year, guns that were initially sold in the U.S. are used in thousands of crimes in Canada, Central America, and the Caribbean, according to the Center for American Progress. It’s estimated that some two hundred thousand American guns are smuggled across the southern border each year. The region that’s been hit the hardest is Central America, where gun laws are relatively strict yet homicide rates are among the highest on earth. Gang wars, massive state corruption, and murderous criminal syndicates are to blame for the violence, but American firepower facilitates it. “Unlike other forms of contraband, American weapons don’t just pass through Central America but engulf it in storms of violence,” Mark Ungar, a political-science professor at Brooklyn College and an expert in the region’s gun violence, told me. This violence, in turn, has fuelled a refugee crisis. Since 2014, more than a hundred and fifty thousand unaccompanied immigrant children from countries in the region have fled to the U.S. seeking some form of asylum.

Oh, well if the Center for American Progress says it, it must be true! Anyhow, the point here is to claim that all the people who come to the U.S. illegally, as well as show at the border and claim asylum, are the result of America’s gun laws, so, we should let them all in and ban all guns.

“The violence crosses from here, in the U.S., to Central America,” Hernández told me. “It’s the opposite of what the politicians say. Gangs and guns—those all go south.” He felt an affinity for the young organizers of this weekend’s March for Our Lives. “This demonstration is necessary. We young people are dying because of all this. And at the end of the day, it’s the people, and not the President, who have the power.” The March for our Lives organizers were making a case to acknowledge the policies that allow mass shootings to happen. Hernández believes the wider ramifications of those policies deserve attention, too. In Honduras, Hernández said, “it seems like the hitmen and gangsters have better weapons than the police.”

Said march is a typical astroturfed gun grabber march, in which the NRA and gun manufacturers are being assailed, with no mention of the utter failure of government in enforcing the existing laws which could have stopped the Parkland nutjob.

Palm Trees In Canada From ‘Climate Change’ Could Totally Happen, You Guys

And it’s all your fault for refusing to go vegan (BTW, the link for Mental Floss might hit a block at your work)

Palm Trees in Canada? It Could Happen, Thanks to Climate Change

Human-caused global warming has the potential to transform coastlines, weather patterns, and entire populations. According to a new study published in Scientific Reports, the creep of palm trees into higher latitudes could be another sign that our planet is changing. If our climate continues to warm, the tropical flora could soon be spotted as far north as Canada.

Heat Trapping Gasses Are Apparently Making Winter Weather Worse Or Something

Is there nothing carbon pollution from you driving to work and getting a burger for lunch can’t do?

Is Climate Change Making Winter Weather Worse? New Study Stokes the Debate

Episodes of winter warming in the Arctic are increasingly likely to be followed by severe winter weather in the eastern U.S., including cold snaps and snowstorms, a study published in Nature Communications this month finds.

The new study is the latest salvo in a longstanding debate on the links between midlatitude winter weather and conditions in the Arctic, where climate change has led to dramatic warming.

The study’s authors include Judah Cohen and Karl Pfeiffer (Atmospheric and Environmental Research) and Jennifer Francis (Rutgers University). Cohen and Francis are two leading proponents of Arctic-midlatitude linkage. Their work offers a potential explanation for some noteworthy episodes of bitter cold and heavy snow that have occurred across the eastern U.S. over the past decade in the midst of overall national and global warming.

Let’s just skip to the chase: they’re claiming that a warming world is making winters colder and more brutal. So, I have to wonder, if the temperature trends down, will that make winters less brutal? These people are always finding ways to prop up their cult, to the point that no matter what happens, it’s always the fault of AGW. If the Earth went into another glacial period, they’d blame it all on carbon pollution.

And they have to manufacture those links, because plenty of winters over the past 10+ years in both Hemispheres have been cold and snowy. And, they always want that sweet, sweet government cash.

Man Engaged In Crime Shot By Police For Refusing To Cooperate, Raising Object At Police

Of course, this is all being spun as racist, such as at the Washington Post

Police shot at a man 20 times in his own yard, thinking he had a gun. It was an iPhone.

Police say they saw an object in Stephan Clark’s hand before firing 20 bullets that killed him in his back yard Sunday night in Sacramento, a disturbing moment that was made public through body camera footage released Wednesday night.

The two officers were responding to a 911 call about a man breaking vehicle windows when they encountered, then killed, Clark, an unarmed black man.

Video released by the Sacramento Police Department depicts a frantic foot pursuit through darkened streets pierced by white slivers of police flashlight.

That “white slivers” thing is cute, eh?

The officers spot Clark approaching a house and shout: “Show me your hands! Stop! Stop!”

Clark is seen running, and the two officers round the corner of the house and find him under a covered patio.

An infrared camera on an overhead helicopter briefly loses sight of Clark at this moment.

“Show me your hands! Gun!” an officer shouts and ducks behind the wall in a fraction of a second.

The helicopter footage shows one of the officers appearing to grab his partner to pull him to cover.

Clark steps toward the officers. Behind the wall, one of the officers issues another command. “Show me your hands!” And then: “Gun, gun, gun!”

Both officers open fire. Sparks from the bullets light up the helicopter’s infrared camera in sharp white pops.

Both officers reportedly fired 10 rounds each. It’s unknown how many struck Clark.

The “article” spends a lot of time quoting his grandmother, Sequita Thompson, who was present at the time (Clark was staying with her), and we get things like

Thompson disputes the police department’s version of events. Her grandson was short, she said in a video produced by the Bee. She believes another suspect was smashing windows, and that Clark was in the back yard at the wrong time.

It’s all about building a raaaaacist narrative, which is interesting, since this happened in yet another Democratic run city. In fact, remember, Sacramento is the Capital of Democratic controlled California. The WP finally gets around to a bit of detail, long after most people who have moved on to another story while muttering about racist police killing unarmed black men

The narrative of the Sunday night shooting released by authorities tells a short, grim story.

The helicopter observed a suspect picking up a “toolbar” and breaking a window to a house after 9 p.m. Sunday night.

The Bee reported it was the sliding glass door belonging to a neighbor.

Authorities said the suspect then ran and looked into a car.

Police in the helicopter guided officers on the ground to the front yard of Thompson’s house as Clark was coming from the back.

They met in the middle, and soon Clark was dead.

The gun officers thought Clark had in his hand was actually a white iPhone.

An analysis by The Washington Post found that 987 people were killed by police last year — 68 of them unarmed. Of those unarmed victims, 30 were white, 20 were black and 13 were Hispanic, showing an overrepresentation of African Americans among the total population. Five of the remaining fatalities were unknown or other.

Whoa! That’s quite a jump, eh? In fact, Clarke’s brother says his name will be remembered

“You’re going to know his name forever,” he added before reciting the names of several black men who were killed by police: “You’re going to remember it like how you know Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice. You’re going to know him. You’re going to remember this.”

Trayvon wasn’t killed by a police officer. He’d be alive if he didn’t jump a guy. Mike Brown would be alive if he didn’t attack a police officer. Regardless, the majority of the story is all about race baiting. The Sac Bee article has a lot more detail as to what happened, with the long chase along with the observation by the police helicopter, as does this HuffPost story. The police were there because they had received multiple calls that a person was breaking car windows. The helicopter started following the movements of Clark, which then witnessed him break a glass door, then jump a fence. Clark ran when confronted by the police. And it continued on.

All Clark had to do was not run. And not raise an object towards the police in night-time conditions. It’s not racism: it’s common sense.

Are More California Cities Planning On Following Los Alamitos In Defying Sanctuary Law?

One of the things that the pro-illegal alien crowd was concerned with when Los Alamitos voted to opt-out of California’s sanctuary for illegal aliens laws was that other jurisdictions would follow suit. That could be happening

(Fox News) More towns and cities in California are exploring options to follow Los Alamitos in rejecting the state’s sanctuary law.

Members of the Los Alamitos Council voted Monday to opt out of a state law that limits cooperation between local police and federal immigration agents.

“Tiny Los Alamitos has kicked open the door,” state Assemblyman Travis Allen told the Orange County Register, “and now other cities across California are looking to get on board and stand up against the illegal sanctuary state.” (snip)

The council’s move inspired officials in Orange County and the cities of Aliso Viejo and Buena Park to consider adopting similar measures against California’s sanctuary law.

Orange County Supervisor Michelle Steel said in a statement Tuesday that she plans to present a similar ordinance to the Board of Supervisors.

“I thank the City of Los Alamitos for standing up for its citizens and rejecting the so-called ‘sanctuary’ legislation passed in Sacramento, and I urge the County of Orange and all of our cities to do the same,” Steel said in the release.

Now, remember, there are actually many parts of California which actually vote Republican in big enough numbers to elect some Republicans. These are the places that have been discussed in all the splitting the state of California plans (here’s one of the latest). You could easily see quite a few of them pick up this banner and run with it.

Meanwhile, the ACLU is Very Concerned

(LA Times) The mayor (of Los Alamitos, Warren Kusumoto) acknowledged the ordinance might set off a legal battle but said that doesn’t concern him, adding the vote has important symbolic meaning.

“Is it going to hold up? I don’t know,” he said. “I just want to protect our community. It’s that simple.”

It would be interesting to see the State of California fight a jurisdiction, attempting to force them to comply in non-cooperation with federal immigration authorities. How well will that play on the national stage?

Sameer Ahmed, staff attorney at the ACLU Foundation of Southern California, called the measure a “blatant violation of the city’s obligation to follow state law,” stating that the foundation was ready to launch a lawsuit if the measure is given final approval.

Wait, what? Wouldn’t that mean that California’s sanctuary state laws are blatant violations of the state’s obligation to follow federal law? 8 U.S. Code § 1373 would be one of the relevant statutes.

Localities have a lot of discretion but they cannot contravene state law, said Jessica Levinson, a professor at Loyola Law School.

“That’s essentially what they are trying to do. I think this is a political statement and not one that is necessarily legal,” she said. “Can you imagine the consequences if cities and counties could do this on a regular basis…. You shouldn’t make a political statement through potentially impermissible laws.”

Can you imagine if states and cities and counties decided to fail to follow federal immigration law on a regular basis?
