Google to change map names for Gulf of Mexico and Denali when US updates them based on Trump order

Google says it will take its cue from the U.S. government if it has to change the names of the Gulf of Mexico and Denali on its maps.

The company said Monday that it will only make changes when the government updates its official listings for the body of water and the mountain.

After taking office, President Donald Trump ordered that the water bordered by the Southern United States, Mexico and Cuba be renamed to the Gulf of America. He also ordered America’s highest mountain peak be changed back to Mt. McKinley.

“We have a longstanding practice of applying name changes when they have been updated in official government sources,” Google said in a post on X.

The company said that Maps will reflect any updates to the Geographic Names Information System, a database of more than 1 million geographic features in the United States.

“When that happens, we will update Google Maps in the U.S. quickly to show Mount McKinley and Gulf of America,” Google said.

What a difference 4 years makes. In 2017 this kind of change would have seen Google proclaiming that they would never make the changes, and there would be tons of Google employees taking to social media with freakout/crying videos. Woke and DEI and Social Justice were all the rage. Expressing Trump Derangement Syndrome was expected from companies. Being Resistant was expected. Now? Just companies being companies, doing the job of companies, particularly after the last four years of the idiocy of the Biden-Harris admin.

BTW, just to be clear, I’m not a big fan of the name change back to McKinley. Trump should have left it Denali, let the Native Alaskans have their mountain name. Oh, and, consider

PRC Attempting Make It Easier For People And Insurance Companies To Sue Fossil Fuels Companies

This is more of the Blame Shifting by the state for the disastrous policies of the state, county, and city which led to the horrible wildfires, and, yet, the people who are looking to pass it aren’t giving up their own use of fossil fuels, nor are most of the Comrades and insurance companies

California lawmaker seeks to hold fossil fuel companies accountable for climate change-related damage

A California state senator said Monday that he wants to give homeowners and insurers the ability to sue oil and gas companies when a disaster caused by climate change damages their property.

The bill, called the Affordable Insurance and Climate Recovery Act, seeks to give people injured by climate disasters a private right of action to recover their losses from oil and gas companies. State Senator Scott Wiener said those companies have misled people about the harm caused by their products.

Senate Bill 222 also would provide insurers with a direct cause of action against oil and gas companies. They could recover losses resulting from climate impacts and rising costs looming over the insurance market and the state’s FAIR Plan.

“These disasters happen and then who pays for them?” said Wiener, a San Francisco Democrat, standing Monday outside the state Capitol. “It’s us, the taxpayers, because of course we step in to help people rebuild, as we should.”

Of course it would be super-freak Scott Weiner, but, then, it could be any one of the moonbats in the People’s Republik Of California general assembly. What’s the chance this passes? I’d give it 88%, and that it passes within a couple months. At what point do fossil fuels companies just say “no mas!” and end their services in the PRC? Would be really tough to get goods in and out of the state. All those cargo ships and trucks. How do they run the trains? What happens with the huge number of airports? How do the celebs fly their private jets?

If insurance companies and the FAIR Plan can recoup their losses caused by climate disasters from oil and gas companies deemed responsible for those damages, the insurance market will stabilize and help with California’s high insurance costs, Wiener said in a statement.

Let’s say it works: the cost of fuel will skyrocket, at best, leading to the cost of most things going up. At worst, the companies decided they cannot afford to operate, from small convenience stores and gas stations up to the big companies. It would get really ugly, but, hey, the Comrades keep voting for Democrats, so, they will only have themselves to blame.

ICE Arrests Almost 1,000 Illegals In One Day

Amazing what can happen when ICE is allowed to do their job, eh?

ICE arrests nearly 1,000 illegal aliens during sixth day of Trump administration

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) made nearly 1,000 arrests on Sunday, with lots of activity taking place in the southeastern United States, according to various ICE field offices.

The agency said law enforcement officers arrested 956 people and lodged 554 detainers, which means “there’s probable cause to believe that the person is removable from the United States under federal immigration law.”

The ICE field office in Miami, Florida, shared the details behind five of the illegal aliens arrested – three in Florida and two in Puerto Rico.

The two arrested in Puerto Rico were residents of the Dominican Republic, and one was charged with domestic violence while the other was charged with driving under the influence of liquor.

A Nicaraguan national was arrested at the Broward County Jail for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful carrying of a concealed weapon, discharging a firearm in public and driving with a suspended license.

And plenty more bad people. The professionals at ICE were told not to do their job, for the most part, under the Biden-Harris admin, not being allowed to go get the bad guys, but, still surely did the tracking, because they are find them fast.

Sarahi Marquez, 33, stood before a room full of news cameras Monday afternoon to share the new level of fear that surrounds the customers and employees at her restaurant and bakery on Staten Island, a thriving 11-year-old business run by a college graduate and DACA recipient who left Mexico with her family and arrived in the U.S. at the tender age of six.

Rising deaths from extreme heat will “far exceed” reductions in numbers dying from cold temperatures in Europe with climate change, researchers suggest.

A study modelling the change in deaths related to high and low temperatures found that there could be more than 2.3 million excess deaths across hundreds of European cities by the end of the century if urgent action is not taken to cut emissions.

While efforts to adapt cities to rising temperatures would not be enough to curb increased health risks due to exposure to heat, up to 70% of the excess deaths could be avoided if climate change was limited, the researchers said.

The hottest plausible scenario they considered showed a net increase of 80,000 temperature-related deaths a year.

The findings challenge an argument popular among those who say global heating is good for society because fewer people will die from cold weather.

Extreme temperatures — mostly heat — are projected to kill as many as 2.3 million people in Europe by the end of the century unless countries get better at reducing carbon pollution and adapting to hotter conditions, a new study says.

Currently, cold temperatures kill more people in Europe than heat by large margins. But a team from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine used climate simulations of different scenarios and looked at death rates in 854 cities. They found as it warms cold deaths lessen slowly, but heat deaths soar rapidly.

Trump Floats Gazans Going To Egypt And Jordan, Immediately Rejected

Trump wants Egypt and Jordan to take in Palestinians from Gaza. Here’s why the idea is rejected

President Donald Trump’s suggestion that Egypt and Jordan take in Palestinians from the war-ravaged Gaza Strip was met with a hard “no” Sunday from the two U.S. allies along with the Palestinians themselves, who fear Israel would never allow them to return.

Trump floated the idea on Saturday, saying he would urge the leaders of the two Arab countries to take in Gaza’s now largely homeless population, so that “we just clean out that whole thing.” He added that resettling most of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million could be temporary or long term.

“It’s literally a demolition site right now,” Trump said, referring to the vast destruction caused by Israel’s 15-month war with Hamas, now paused by a fragile ceasefire.

“I’d rather get involved with some of the Arab nations, and build housing in a different location, where they can maybe live in peace for a change,” Trump said.

Hamas and the Western-backed Palestinian Authority condemned the idea. Jordan’s foreign minister, Ayman Safadi, told journalists that his country’s rejection of the proposed transfer of Palestinians was “firm and unwavering.”

Egypt, Jordan, and Israel have not responded, though, both Egypt and Jordan have said not to taking Gazans in early in the war. And, pretty much for 50+ years. Because they do not want them. They are a big problem. They create instability and violence. There’s a reason Egypt built a big-ass wall on the border between Gaza and Egypt with all sorts of security.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi has also warned of the security implications of transferring large numbers of Palestinians to Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, bordering Gaza.

Hamas and other militant groups are deeply rooted in Palestinian society and are likely to move with the refugees, which would mean that future wars would be fought on Egyptian soil. That could unravel the historic Camp David peace treaty, a cornerstone of regional stability.

Exactly. But, you know, it was an idea. Sometimes ideas have to be thrown out there. How about the Gazans moving to an island in the Adriatic Sea? There are tons of them, certainly there is one big enough that is not settled. Oh, right, they want to be close to Israel so they can continue trying to kill Jews.

Or, how about the Gazans just stop being violent? Stop backing terrorist groups. Stop allowing Iran to fund it. Stop turning water pipes into rockets. Just. Stop.

Climate change is having a major impact on students around the world. Extreme weather disrupted the schooling of about 242 million children in 85 countries last year—roughly one in seven students, the UN children’s agency reported Thursday, deploring what it said was an “overlooked” aspect of the climate crisis.

Heat waves had the biggest impact, the report showed, as UNICEF’s executive director Catherine Russell warned children are “more vulnerable” to extreme weather.

“They heat up faster, they sweat less efficiently, and cool down more slowly than adults,” she said in a statement.

“Children cannot concentrate in classrooms that offer no respite from sweltering heat, and they cannot get to school if the path is flooded, or if schools are washed away.”

Human activity, including the unrestricted burning of fossil fuels over decades, has warmed the planet and changed weather patterns.

So, a bunch of kids here in North Carolina missed school because the roads were icy and it was very cold (for here) last week: is that from fossil fueled ‘climate change’?

If the emission of greenhouse gases continues on its current trajectory, eight times as many children will be exposed to heat waves in 2050 as in 2000, according to UNICEF projections.

More than three times as many would be exposed to extreme floods and 1.7 times more to wildfires, the projections showed.

And what if this doesn’t happen? Who gets fired for the scaremongering? Say, how much school did kids miss during the Little Ice Age?

Beyond the immediate impacts, UNICEF voiced fears that the damage could increase the risk of some children—girls in particular—dropping out of school altogether.

How about the girls that are forbidden to go to school in Islamist countries?

Already, some two-thirds of children around the world cannot read with comprehension by age 10, it said, adding: “Climate hazards are exacerbating this reality.”

ICE Starts Immigration Raids In Sanctuary City Chicago Sunday

ICE says ‘targeted operations’ are underway in Chicago; feds target at least 2 Albany Park buildings

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were spotted on the ground in Chicago as the agency said “targeted operations” are underway Sunday.

ICE released a statement on Sunday saying that it is working alongside multiple federal agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Marshals service.

ICE went on to say together they have started “conducting enhanced, targeted operations today in Chicago to enforce U.S. immigration law.”

President Donald Trump’s “border czar” Tom Homan and Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove are in town to oversee the deportation operations. (snip)

While Homan says for now, they are focusing on criminals with arrest warrants or deportation orders against them, the fear many have is that others, who Homan has referred to as “collaterals,” will also be arrested.

Well, yeah, because, at the end of the day, illegals/fake asylum seekers who have not committed crimes in their home country or in the US still broke federal immigration law, which, for a first offense is a small fine and deportation

Pritzker on immigration raids: ‘We need to get rid of violent criminals,’ not ‘law-abiding’ residents

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) said he’s eager to cooperate with federal immigration officials to “get rid” of criminals but questioned the basis for targeting “law-abiding” residents integrated into communities.

“Let me start by being clear that when we’re talking about violent criminals who’ve been convicted and who are undocumented, we don’t want them in our state. We want them out of the country. We hope they do get deported, and if that’s who they’re picking up, we’re all for it,” Pritzker said in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“They show up with a warrant, and we’re going to hand over people who are in our prisons, who are in our jails, who fit that description,” he added.

Two points: first, that law abiding have already broken the law, as I mentioned. Second, for all Pritzker says he doesn’t want them, he’s protecting them by being a sanctuary state which directs law enforcement to never contact ICE, even if it is an illegal who raped and murdered a child. Notice he says he won’t hand them over without a warrant, meaning jails have been instructed to not accept a detainer, which is the norm for ICE.

Pritzker said the best approach would be to provide a path to citizenship for those people.

“Why are we going after them?” he continued. “These are not people who are causing problems in our country, and what we need is a path to citizenship for them.”

There’s a way to do that: apply for citizenship outside of the US and go through the process. Otherwise, f*** off.
