Funny how so many Leftist initiatives end up hurting lower level workers, eh?
Housekeepers Are Protesting Marriott’s Green Energy Initiative
Housekeepers are protesting Marriott International’s “Make a Green Choice†program, claiming the initiative is costing them money and forcing erratic work on their schedules.
Marriott and its hotel subsidiaries are offering customers a deal: Earn 500 bonus points for every day you refuse housekeeping services. Participating customers can refuse serve for up to three consecutive days at a time, racking up a large amount of points in the process. The “Make a Green Choice†program is also being billed as an environmentally friendly initiative, with advertisements lauding the amount of water, electricity and chemicals that can be saved.
However, not everyone is happy.
Maids across the country are livid over the new program, claiming they are being harmed with reduced work hours and more stressful schedules as they now must clean rooms that haven’t been managed in several days. Unite Here — a union that represents many of the Marriott housekeepers — are organizing against the program.
Essentially, if the guests are not requesting housekeeping, then the housekeepers are working less hours and making less money, and, when they finally get to clean a room, it takes a lot more time and effort because the rooms are dirtier.
The leaflets are being given to guests staying at the Marriott Marquis in San Francisco, according to View From The Wing. Additionally, the leaflets claim the Green Choice program has resulted in 700,000 hours of lost work and 350 fewer full-time jobs. Unite Here has a strike in San Francisco with more possibly on the way in Boston and other cities.
Hey, maybe the Leftists can push harder for a $15 minimum wage, so that even more jobs can be lost.

The Editorial Board, featuring racist Sarah Jeong, has finally chimed in using Hurricane Florence to prop up their anthropogenic climate change fantasy (while using vast amounts of fossil fuels to distribute their dead tree edition)
Nature Roars. Washington Hears Nothing.
The elements offer a rebuke as President Trump rolls back policies designed to address global warming. As if this past summer of merciless heat waves, droughts and megafires were not warning enough, in the past several days the elements sounded another alarm about the state of a world made warmer by the burning of fossil fuels. It came in the form of a one-two punch of wind and rainfall from Hurricane Florence, which like Hurricane Harvey a year ago, has derived much of its wallop from unusually warm ocean waters and stalled weather systems linked to climate change. “Superchargedâ€Â is the word one prominent climate scientist, Michael Mann, used to describe Florence, echoing the findings of the federal Global Change report in 2014 that, along with a rise in other extreme weather events, “hurricane intensity and rainfall are projected to increase as the climate continues to warm.â€

Interestingly, what actually happened with Florence?
At Friday’s Daily Update, veteran meteorologist Joe Bastardi posed a question to the climate ambulance chasers and folks at the Washington Post: “How come Florence didn’t intensify more? How come Isaac is falling apart at the heart of the hurricane season? […] How come everything is dying? There’s so much more than just simplistic arguments that are done for agendas.â€
Remember, the media folks were trotting out fears of a Category 6 hurricane. Yet, Florence never re-strengthened, thank goodness. It was bad enough as a low hurricane, then quickly dropping to tropical storm status and then depression, especially as it moved so darned slow. Nature was responsible for making Florence big, and responsible for decreasing the power in contradiction to all the Warmist (and real meteorologist) predictions.
To no one’s surprise, this linkage went unacknowledged in President Trump’s Washington. Quite the contrary. On Tuesday, in a further retreat from President Barack Obama’s ambitious promises to reduce America’s emissions of the greenhouse gases deemed largely responsible for global warming, the Environmental Protection Agency proposed weakening rules aimed at reducing leaks of methane from oil and gas operations. Methane, a principal component of natural gas, is a short-lived but potent greenhouse gas that represents about 9 percent of this country’s total greenhouse gas emissions; one-third of it comes from oil and gas operations.
The NYTEB goes on to whine about the Trump admin rolling back all sorts of Obama era regulations, ones that were manufactured with a pen, rather than being approved of by the duly elected legislative branch, then delves into the climate change summit in San Francisco, where people from all over the world took fossil fueled trips to proclaim they will Do Something, ending with
Uniting these leaders is a belief that human ingenuity can lead us out of a predicament that humans have helped create and a faith in collective action that is almost impossible to find on the Potomac.
You know what would be fun? Putting a carbon tax on newspapers. Actual newspapers. Let’s see how quick outlets like the NY Times complain.

And, of course, in true Liberal World mode, Kavanaugh is guilty till proven innocent
(Breitbart) Mark Judge, a writer in Washington, D.C., has reiterated his strong denial of allegations that he watched as Brett M. Kavanaugh allegedly sexually assaulted a girl when he and Kavanaugh attended a party while they were in high school more than three decades ago.
The accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, claims that she was able to escape when Judge jumped on top of her and Kavanaugh and dislodged the two. She went public with an on record account in a story published Sunday in the Washington Post.
Judge was Kavanaugh’s friend and classmate at Georgetown Preparatory School.  The Post story claims that Kavanaugh and Judge were both “stumbling drunk†when the two, as the Post characterized it, “corralled her into a bedroom during a gathering of teenagers at a house in Montgomery County.â€
Now that Ford’s name and more details about her allegations were released in the Poststory, Judge reiterated his denial:
“Now that the anonymous person has been identified and has spoken to the press, I repeat my earlier statement that I have no recollection of any of the events described in today’s Post article or attributed to her letter,†he said in a statement to Breitbart News.
As AP Dillion points out
It also seems weird she used the WaPo tip line prior to his nomination…then somehow she ends up sending a letter to her Rep which then lands with Feinstein…where it sits for months, unmentioned until it’s clear the Dems need a Hail Mary move. https://t.co/D7VTIbkAv0
— A.P. Dillon (@APDillon_) September 17, 2018
Apparently, the WP sat on this story for months, just like Feinstein did. There’s political dirty tricks, then there’s accusing a good man, a many who has led an upstanding life, of bad conduct from 35 years ago when he was a teenager. But, who is the woman? She’s apparently a Trump hater, for one thing. She was caught wearing a brain style pussy hat at an anti-Trump march
Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who claims she was physically attacked at a high school party by Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh three decades ago, has taken part in events opposing President Donald Trump, including a science march in California last year where she donned a version of the “pussy hats†worn at the January 2017 Women’s March.
Blasey Ford is cited in a San Jose Mercury News article as wearing the hat at the march, which the newspaper said was held because people were “angered by the Trump administration’s proposed cuts to research.â€
She also signed a letter against Trump’s border enforcement. Let me tell you, if she wants to go down this road of an accusation from 35 years ago, there will be people digging even deeper into her life.
But, a few Republican Senators, such as Jeff Flake, want to hear more. They’ll give her a chance to tell her side of the story….quick, tell me a story that you remember in super detail from 35 years ago, like she tells hers in the Washington Post.
Scott Morefield notes
Ever since rumors began swirling on Capitol Hill about a mystery letter in the possession of Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein, it was only a matter of time before Judge Kavanaugh’s formerly “anonymous†accuser made her grand entrance to the national stage. After all, Democratic attempts to delay, interrupt, grandstand, and even “Spartacus†their way out of replacing former Justice Anthony Kennedy with a conservative jurist of President Trump’s choosing had thus far been unsuccessful, so why not pull out the old classic “Anita Hill†tactic? It may or may not work, but Dems are just trying to run out the clock at this point, right? (snip)
The alleged incident left Ford so traumatized, apparently, that she neglected to go public or even file a police report for … wait for it … 36 years.
And it’s not like she didn’t have plenty of opportunities during those nearly four decades. Yet, Ford was silent with Kavanaugh clerked at the Supreme Court, silent when he was a White House attorney, and still silent after Kavanaugh became a U.S. Circuit Judge in 2006 – a process that required a lengthy and controversial Senate confirmation – and all the years thereafter, even as he weighed in on important cases regarding the environment, separation of powers, human rights, and criminal procedure, among others.
Now, on the eve of Senate confirmation, Ford – a California clinical psychology college professor who just happens to be a registered Democrat – decides that justice MUST be served. It’s her “civic responsibility,†don’t you know.
So yeah, color me skeptical.
Guy Benson promises an article at Townhall today, as well, and, as part of a lengthy tweet storm, writes
Proving a negative is impossible, esp ~4 decades later & the timing of all of this is highly suspect. I’d add that even those who want to defeat Kavanaugh due to politics should be careful about embracing a precedent under which this approach is ‘rewarded’ as effective…
— Guy Benson (@guypbenson) September 16, 2018
It’s all about an 11th hour smear designed to run out the clock till after the mid-terms, using a woman’s long ago fantasy of a sexual assault to do this. Essentially playing politics with sexual assault.
At the end of the day, though, a person is innocent till proven guilty, and she doesn’t have the proof.

This is the kind of garbage that teen girls are being taught

You know I prefer to avoid getting into a discussion of abortion on demand, but this is truly demented. From the insane story by Elly Belle
Teens Are Speaking Up About Their Abortions Through Youth Testify
The new program is helping young people advocate for their reproductive rights.
When 22-year-old Jessy first learned she was pregnant, she was in shock. At the time, she was a junior at the University of California, Riverside, the president of her campus chapter of Planned Parenthood Generation Action, and a reproductive rights activist. Still, she said she never quite imagined herself as someone who might someday be fighting for her own right to have an abortion.
“I just didn’t know what to do for myself even though I knew what I would always tell others,” Jessy told Teen Vogue. “Knowing that what was inside me kept growing as time progressed really did take an emotional toll on me, my grades, my social life… it wasn’t until after I got my abortion that I got some sort of relief.
One would have thought with that SJW abortionista pedigree she would have understood the need to have responsible, protected sex.
Jessy was ultimately able to get an abortion, and now she is one of 13 young people between the ages of 17 and 24 who will be participating in Youth Testify. The new leadership program being launched by Advocates for Youth and the National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF) is specifically for young people who have had abortions and want to share their stories to change the conversation around abortion and combat misinformation. “Because of all the hurdles I had to go through with insurance, I had to play the waiting game for so long, and because there’s so much stigma surrounding abortion, I was ashamed and didn’t try to reach out for more help,†Jessy told Teen Vogue.
Or, she could have just paid for the abortion herself. Better yet, had protected sex.
Youth Testify aims to provide these resources, and simultaneously reframe the narrative around abortion by giving platform to some of the most vulnerable abortion storytellers — particularly people of color, LGBTQ people, and people with varying abilities and citizenship statuses. The goal of the program, according to the NNAF, is to show that young people who have had abortions are the experts on reproductive rights as well as the experts of their own experiences, and must be trusted with making decisions without anyone else’s permission. The participants come from states all over the country including California, Illinois, Mississippi, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, and Washington, and have had anywhere from 1 to 3 abortions. Through a range of trainings, including community organizing trainings, and teachings on how to bring attention to the financial and logistical barriers to abortion that young people, the participants will learn how to tell their own stories while gaining a deeper understanding of abortion and reproductive rights so they can uplift and fight for others who face challenging circumstances.
So, we’re supposed to listen to the people who became pregnant through irresponsible, unprotected sex as the experts?
And although Veronika, a 19-year-old Latina woman (it’s great that Liberals put everyone in a Box, eh?), was ultimately granted the right to an abortion without approval from a parent or guardian, it didn’t make the process any less nerve-wracking. “It was stressful emotionally because I was really scared they would say no,†Veronika told Teen Vogue. But she also wants the world to know how much relief and joy her ability to get an abortion has brought her, and that she has no regrets. “It was the best, most mature decision I made in my life, because I got to determine my future. I made a decision for myself and for a child, that I wasn’t ready emotionally, mentally, or financially.â€
I would have thought that the most mature decision would been to not have irresponsible, unprotected sex with a person(s) that she didn’t want to have a baby with. And that is exactly where this type of insanity goes completely off the rails, as these SJW abortionistas are pushing abortions rather than safe, responsible, protected sex. They’re positioning the murder of an unborn life as the mature response, that it’s no big deal whatsoever. What they are saying is “just go ahead and have sex, no big deal, don’t worry about protection, just have an abortion!” Psychos. This is not a healthy attitude.
It was a night devoted to self-expression, body positivity, and creativity in ALL its forms. https://t.co/TkEutTLCF8

Susan Collins Was Sent A ‘Three-Foot-Long Cardboard Cutout Of Male Genitalia’
Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins’ Washington office received a “three-foot-long cardboard cutout of male genitalia†as liberal activists attempt to sway and even scare her away from supporting the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh, reported The Washington Post Thursday.
Collins has scheduled a meeting with Kavanaugh Friday to discuss concerns she has about supporting the potential Supreme Court justice, reported WaPo.
In addition to Collins’ staff reporting being sent the obscene cutout, which was accompanied with profanity, the senator’s staffers have also been inundated with less-than-polite calls from Kavanaugh protesters, according to WaPo.
Utah Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch’s office weighed in on the cutout via Twitter Thursday evening.
“The left’s campaign to pressure Senator Collins has gone from threats of sexual violence against young staffers to actual sexual harassment,†the tweet said. “This is abhorrent behavior and (again) deserves to be roundly condemned from the right and left.â€
Of course, you find nothing about this at the NY Times, Washington Post, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, LA Times, ABC, CNN and so forth.

You know, this is totally your fault for driving your fossil fueled vehicle and going back in time to create monster hurricanes like the Great Galveston Hurricane on 1900, which killed somewhere between 6,000 and 12,000 people
How climate change is ‘loading the dice’ for more perilous hurricanes
As Hurricane Florence was closing in on the Carolina coast this week, the role of climate change in intensifying weather was back in the national conversation. Amna Nawaz talks with Radley Horton of Columbia University about the link between climate change and sea level rise and rising temperatures.
Amna Nawaz: The question is a vital one, with more and more people living along the coast and the seaboard, which many say is a problem in and of itself.
And there is certainly some debate among scientists about how climate change impacts a storm. But, increasingly, researchers are trying to explain the connections immediately after a storm hits. And they say climate change is definitely associated with both sea level rise and rising temperatures. (snip)
Let’s start with the million-dollar question we face every hurricane season. What is it we can say definitively about the link between climate change and these kinds of hurricane?
Radley Horton: Well, there’s a very clear link.
And there’s really three dimensions to it, to the way that human activities have increased the risks associated with these types of storms. The first is because climate change and warming has increased sea levels. And, as a result, whenever any storm hits, water levels are that much higher, just by virtue of that baseline having been raised, that gradual change in sea level. (slight snip)
The second component is the amount of rainfall associated with a given storm. As we have warmed the atmosphere, as we have warmed the upper ocean, it can now hold more moisture. So, for a storm of a given strength, there’s that much more moisture available to fall out in the types of catastrophic rains that we’re seeing here.
The third element, which is a little less certain than those first two, is that the storms themselves can become stronger with climate change, the actual strength of the winds, the depth of the low pressure.
These same people were claiming that human caused climate change was causing massive wind sheer that were killing off hurricanes, as well as upper level winds that steered them away from land during the period of 13 years without a landfalling major hurricane on U.S. soil. Notice where Amna states “explain the connections immediately after a storm hits.” This is not science, it’s retroactively attempting to Blamestorm and prop up your cult. They can’t future predict, but, damned if they won’t find a human caused link afterwards.
Remember, less than a week ago they were wondering if this would hit Category 6 status (which doesn’t exist). It was like they were hoping Florence would hit NC/SC as a monster major hurricane.
And, yes, climatic changes could be having an effect on systems, but, there’s no reason to assign witchcraft to it: the climate has always changed.
