Green New Deal 2.0: Activists revitalise UK climate change plan
Proposal seeks massive economic transformation and is backed by MP Caroline Lucas, who designed original framework.
The progressive think-tank Common Wealth has published a 10-point Green New Deal plan for the United Kingdom to transform public finance and tackle the climate emergency.
In a report released on Thursday the British advocacy organisation – in conjunction with parliament members, activists, and policymakers – calls for an investment overhaul to decarbonise the economy and create millions of new jobs.
The group hopes to create 100 percent renewable energy, an improved public transportation system, and zero-carbon housing for all.
“A UK Green New Deal is vital to our future, and to the future of the 1.4 million young people who have joined inspiring school climate strikes across the globe,” said UK Green Party MP Caroline Lucas.
She called the new vision an “economic plan for a rapid transition”.
It’s way more than that
“The time for incrementalism has passed,” said Clive Lewis, a Labour MP for Norwich South. “The climate emergency demands an emergency response – a bold, government-led action.”
“Labour is committed to rewriting the Treasury rulebooks to green all future public investment and deliver a Green Industrial Revolution,” Lewis added. “This report sets out exactly the kind of ambition our politics needs in the face of climate crisis.”
Matthew Lawrence, the plan’s author and the director of Common Wealth, said he believes the climate crisis is, in fact, a “political crisis” that can be solved only by “the movements and communities on the front line of change”.
Rebecca Newsom, an activist with Greenpeace UK, said that the “existential threat of climate change can and must be turned into an opportunity to restructure our entire economy if we’re to make the most of this moment and reverse the injustices of poverty and social inequality.”
Sounds like it’s using the manufactured “climate crisis” to force authoritarian government on citizens, does it not? Seriously, go read that 10 point plan and see if this is science or far left politics.

Having a ‘climate change’ debate for the Democratic Party primaries is a case of “be careful what you wish for, because you might get it”. One specific paragraphs of this Vox article by uber-Warmist David Roberts tells the real story of the meaning of ‘climate change’
We might get a climate debate after all. Here are 10 questions to ask candidates.
The controversy over whether Democrats will hold a debate focused on climate change has been at a stalemate for weeks, but lately, there’s been a little movement. As Alex Kaufman at HuffPost reports, a DNC committee may vote in August on two resolutions: one to hold a formal climate debate, and one to arrange a more informal forum. (The latter would be like the abortion rights forum Planned Parenthood hosted last month, with 20 Dem candidates attending.) Eighteen candidates now support the idea of a climate debate, as Rebecca Leber at Mother Jones reports:
I have to admit, I have strenuously mixed feelings about the prospect of a Democratic climate debate.
On one hand, yes, climate change is important and tied to all the other issues Americans care about. It would be nice to have a robust conversation among the candidates that illuminated their thinking and educated the public.
On the other hand, good lord, so much could go wrong.
The unfortunate background condition here is that very few people know enough about climate policy and politics to maintain a focused, substantive hour-long discussion, and cable TV moderators are unlikely to be among them.
Actually, what could really go wrong for Democrats is that they are exposed for the Big Government authoritarians they really are, and that their policies will cost people a lot of money and take away their freedom and choice. Here’s where Roberts inadvertently tells the truth on the ‘climate change’ debate from the Warmists as he discusses the Washington Post article I mentioned from July 1st on questions for a climate change debate
But the primary sources of conflict in climate politics are not disagreements over science. Like all political conflicts, they are ultimately power struggles between incumbents and challengers — in this case, between fossil fuels (and all the people, practices, and industries that depend on them) and the sundry forces rallying around cleaner alternatives.
It is power, not science, primarily at issue. That is what divides climate hawks from their opponents. Questions should focus on how to shift the balance of power.
And that is what this is about: power. The power to use the government to control citizens, private entities, the economy, the energy sector, and everything. This hasn’t been about science since about 5 minutes after the question was asked if CO2 output from Mankind was making the Earth warmer, and certainly not since the fall of the Soviet union and all the far left needed to find something else to support, hence the tag “watermelons” (green on the outside, red on the inside.”
And pretty much every question Roberts offers is based on political/government power. Surprise? Here’s a few more from me

It must have caused the Washington Post quite a bit of heartburn to publish anything that says that Trump is right
After Confederate statues, America’s culture war targets Betsy Ross and a founding father
As the nation has celebrated its birthday with displays of its contemporary power and prestige this week, two of its cherished historic symbols came under fire — its first flag and its third president.
Sportswear company Nike pulled sneakers depicting the 13-star banner known as the Betsy Ross flag after former NFL football player Colin Kaepernick, who has a sponsorship deal with Nike, reportedly objected: The flag, which dates to the era of 18th-century slavery, has occasionally been used by white supremacists and other far-right groups. And the city council in Charlottesville — where Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello plantation is located — voted this week to scrap the former president’s local holiday in favor of one that celebrates the emancipation of African American slaves.
The twin moves opened new fronts in the culture war that President Trump foreshadowed two years ago, after white nationalists marched through Charlottesville to protest the proposed removal of a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.
“Sad to see the history and culture of our great country being ripped apart with the removal of our beautiful statues and monuments,â€Â Trump tweeted . “Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson — who’s next, Washington, Jefferson?â€
The nation’s growing diversity and polarization has prompted an outcry over the stain of slavery and a reckoning with some of America’s most identifiable historic symbols. The debate over which figures and moments are to be celebrated and which condemned has shifted from emblems of the fallen Confederacy to those that are foundational to the nation’s origin. The giants of U.S. history are being taken off their pedestals, both literally and figuratively, to be reexamined, warts and all.
They’re after just about everything from America’s past. A school in San Francisco, one named after George Washington, is not just planning to cover up a mural of The Life Of Washington that has been there since the New Deal era, the snowflakes are so triggered that they are going paint over it, because it is “hurtful” to the students (who probably do not even pay attention to it).
Many of these SJWs simply hate America. Kaepernick posted a Frederick Douglas quote on Independence Day which basically shows that he does, in fact, hate America. Then Ted Cruz schooled him with something called “context.” And, of course, America hater Colin started the whole Betsy Ross thing. And he, and the others, won’t stop. A question for them is “what is your end-goal?” Another is “what nation can you go to that doesn’t have something in their background?” Because things were different hundreds of years ago.

From the screed
It’s easy to cling to the idea that traditions are traditions because traditions have always been traditions. It’s a cyclical mode of thought, despite fueling much of the baby boomer generation’s voting habits for the last 40 years! But if you stand in opposition to our country’s actions and believe we occupy stolen land—what are we really celebrating? Why waste a beautiful holiday on the rotting carcass of self-described superpower when we could be doing anything else. With that in mind, I’ve put together some quick suggestions on alternate holidays much more in line with America’s next generation, which still allow us to enjoy a long summer weekend:
- Everyone Posts the Same Flag Cake on Instagram Day (Hazel Cills)
- Unionize Your Workplace Day
- MoviePass Memorial Day
- Legalize Marijuana (And Release All “Drug Offendersâ€) Day
- Crash Didn’t Deserve An Oscar Day
- Old Town Road Day
- Kamala Harris Is Still a Cop Day
- Hot Dog Day (Megan Reynolds)
- Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston Memorial Day (Julianne Escobedo Shepherd)
- It’s Ok To Wear Those Flip-Flops Day
- Reparations Are An Essential Political Agenda For Any Democratic Candidate Hoping To Be Elected Day
- Yes You Can Eat Three Ice Creams Today Day (Alexis Sobel Fitts)
- Abolish ICE Day
- De-platform Gwyneth Paltrow Day
- Charlie’s Angels 2: Full Throttle Is A Better Movie Than The Original Day
- Rihanna’s Side Boob Day

She refused to vote for any funding for the packed illegal immigrant centers, and has refused to demand a vote for her own Green New Deal, so, yeah, this should be good
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Unveils 4-Point Immigration Plan (Point #2: Climate Change)
Ocasio-Cortez, who toured facilities Monday where migrants are held after being caught crossing the border illegally —  and which she refers to as “concentration camps†— unveiled her plan via Twitter on Wednesday.
The plan begins by calling for more aid to the countries of the “Northern Triangle†in Central America — El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras — on the apparent theory that more cash will address what Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) calls the “root causes†of the migration.
Next, Ocasio-Cortez — echoing presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke — demands action on climate change and the implementation of her “Green New Deal,†which she says will reduce the flow of “refugees.â€
Following that, Ocasio-Cortez calls for decriminalizing illegal border crossings, making illegal immigration a “civil†matter.
Finally, she calls for massive spending by the government to stimulate the economy — though the U.S. economy is already growing quickly, and is at the lowest unemployment levels in nearly half a century.
Do you ever feel just the slightest bit sorry for Nancy Pelosi who has to deal with this (but not too sorry, because she and the other elder Dems brought about this type of lunacy)? I wonder if her staff makes sure she doesn’t see AOC’s tweets, constantly deflecting her.
2. Climate change: There is broad consensus from military to activists that resource strains (droughts, famine, etc) & nat disasters are drivers of refugees.
People are fleeing places that were once livable &are no longer. It will get worse the longer we do nothing #GreenNewDeal
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) July 3, 2019
It’s not much of a plan, just some ramblings written on Twitter instead of a sticky note. And, if they are natural disasters, then why the need for the Big Government Modern Socialist Green New Deal, which she refuses to demand a vote on? Oh, and how is she going to force her GND on these other countries, and how will it stop natural disasters? She’s all yours, Democrats.

Many more patriotic pinups below the fold
Remember, Los Angeles is being woefully negligent in keeping its streets clean, instead spending on money on lawyers and other things for illegal aliens. The garbage in the streets problem is continuing to grow, and rats are making huge inroads, even causing problems in City Hall and police stations. The homeless are streaming into LA. Drug use is rampant. Yet
LA forms first-ever climate emergency mobilisation office
The United States city of Los Angeles has institutionalised the first Climate Emergency Mobilization Department – and the first Climate Emergency Commission – on the planet.
On Wednesday, by a vote of 13-0, the city council unanimously passed legislation to hire a Climate Emergency Mobilization Director and plan the next moves for a citywide climate emergency implementation blueprint that environmental justice groups helped craft through a series of community meetings.
The department will address the local impacts of climate change, including wildfires and floods. It will also take up concerns surrounding pollution and the effects of toxic waste. In addition, people displaced by climate change will be able to seek employment assistance from the government.
“The adoption of a Climate Emergency Mobilization programme represents a major step forward for the city of Los Angeles…in taking urgent action to fight back against this accelerating global crisis,” said Margaret Klein Salamon, founder and executive director of The Climate Mobilization – the group that put the idea of climate mobilisation into the public consciousness a half-decade ago.
“The Climate Mobilization applauds this important step and encourages the City Council to quickly adopt the full proposal submitted on March 15 by Councilmember Koretz and the Leap LA Coalition,” said Salamon.
“Addressing our climate emergency in urgent fashion not only preserves our planet for the next generation, it presents a tremendous opportunity to do so in ways which are equitable, inclusive and just for all communities,” she added.
The mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, in April released a Green New Deal for the city, putting the metropolis on course to become carbon neutral by 2050.
First, this is pretty much all about left wing politics, and has little to do with the climate. Second, good luck with both it and the GND offered by Garcetti. LA is an area that runs on fossil fuels, if we’re considering the broader area we think of as LA, which would include Beverly Hills, Pasadena, Santa Monica, Malibu, Burbank, Glendale, and others. Hollywood could not do its thing without fossil fuels. Nor could the sporting teams. Nor most businesses. The roads are jam packed every day with commuters. People take fossil fueled trips to the beach. There are lots of airports, including LA International. People visit from all over the nation and the world.
They’re just going to spend a lot of taxpayer money on this climate mobilization department to do Social Justice Warrioring things, trying to tell people how to live their lives. And trying to get those things embedded in law. While they drive to and from the office in garbage covered streets in their own fossil fueled vehicles.
