WWIII Watch: NATO Says Ukraine Will Join Once War Ends

We haven’t talked about Ukraine much, because nothing actually really happens, except dumping money and weapons. This kind of pronouncement means Russia will continue fighting, not wanting Ukraine to be part of NATO

‘All Allies Agree’ Ukraine Will Join NATO, Says Alliance Boss

NATO reaffirms its long-term support for Ukraine and says its members all agree the nation will join the alliance, but not while the war is ongoing, and not before it has reformed.

The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) Jens Stoltenberg again spoke of NATO membership for Ukraine as a definite matter — despite previous dissent from within the alliance — as he spoke of a forthcoming meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council this week.

“Allies agree that Ukraine will become a member of NATO”, Stoltenberg said as he said discussions this week would focus on “priority reforms” for the country to make it fit to join the organisation. Recent direct support for Ukraine cited by the Norwegian politician turned alliance leader included the air defence coalition, billions in new funding, and the opening of the F-16 training centre in Romania for Ukrainian pilots.

There would still be lots and lots of details to work on, but, how does Russia feel? This will incentivize them to go harder. Oh, and Ukraine really is still a not particularly good country.

Oh, and how about that whole anti-freedom and anti-Christianity stuff?

I am sure whoever Putin installs as Ukrainian president after the war will appreciate that.

… and not before it has reformed.

AHA! There is the poison pill. Ukraine is never going to reform. They like their corruption. A whole bunch of Democratic party members in the USA are depending on it for their own generational wealth schemes.

In 1994 the US and the UK pledged to defend the sovereignty of Ukraine if Ukraine gave up it’s nuclear weapons. The US is spending just about 5% of our military budget in Ukraine.all of our traditional Euro allies are supporting Ukraine (along with Israel who sent military aid and volunteers). Even Finland and Sweden have now found it necessary to join NATO because of the aggression of Trump’s friend, Putin

H: In 1994 the US and the UK pledged to defend the sovereignty of Ukraine if Ukraine gave up it’s nuclear weapons.

That is not quite correct. The signatories (Ukraine, Russia, UK, US) of the Budapest Memorandum agreed to respect Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and existing borders. There was no military guarantee.

      Your other points are valid.

America’s great ally Vladimir Putin and Russia could end the Ukraine war today. Stop killing civilians, wasting trillions of rubles in Ukraine and go home. Can Putin’s American conscience, Mr Trump, lobby his dear friend to save Russia and its peoples from themselves?

What is Putin’s objective? It’s obviously not the welfare of his people. Putin imagined the Ukrainians would wither within a week and he would be able to thump his chest and plunder Ukraine’s resources. Now Russia’s pitiable military has been stuck in a quagmire with direct approval from the US Far-right, Belarus, Nicaragua, North Korea and Syria, and tacit approval from India, Pakistan and China.

Why is the US Far-right demanding that Ukraine surrender to Russia? We’ve heard that unless the world acquiesces to Russia’s naked aggression, Putin may start WWIII (with nukes, no less!). We’ve heard it costs the US too many USDs. We’ve heard that the Nazi Party has regrouped in Ukraine. We’ve heard that the Ukrainian leaders are more corrupt than Senator Menendez and Rep Santos combined! We’ve heard that Ukraine is funneling billions of US taxpayer dollars to Democrats. We’ve heard that Putin was terrified that Ukraine would join NATO, facilitating the the West overrunning Russia!

What we haven’t heard from the US Far-right is that their de facto master, the corrupt mobster, Fat Donnie, is indebted to Vladimir Putin. What we haven’t heard from our brothers and sisters on the far-right is that it’s wrong for one nation to invade another sovereign nation without provocation.

The American far-right “essentially” is saying that Might DOES Make Right and it’s just natural human behavior that big fishes allow little fishes to survive until the big fish gets hungry. Should the US seize Canada for their increasingly relevant farmland and oil reserves?

None of this fucking idiocy makes any sense. Every last word is complete bullshit. If you’re unable to deal with reality as it exists instead of blasting your mindless, wishful-thinking feces all over the place like an incontinent two-year-old, then go find something else to do.

    Chicken Little:

” What we haven’t heard from our brothers and sisters on the far-right is that it’s wrong for one nation to invade another sovereign nation without provocation.”

Then you were for our actions to try and save South Vietnam.

    Good for you.

    Oh. You weren’t????

Well, the Lefties weren’t so I’m not surprised.

  6. Dana says:

It has been reported that Vladimir Vladimirovich offered Volodymyr Oleksandrovych a peace deal, in 2022, an end to the war for a commitment that Ukraine would not join NATO. If this is true, then “Allies agree that Ukraine will become a member of NATO” is a prescription for a never-ending war.

    • Professor Hale says:

This is true. Putin withdrew all of his demands except for neutrality regarding NATO and “stop using artillery against Russian civilians living in Donbas”. Zelensky refused because the US SECState insisted that Ukraine fight to the death. This is a was caused by the US Government under Biden and continued by them with no end in sight and no rational goal. And since the USA pays all the bills in NATO, what the other NATO members want is pretty much irrelevant. They just go along with whatever the Biden administration wants. If Blinken wanted peace, there would be peace tomorrow. Dems don’t want peace. They want to protect their gravy train. What is unfathomable is why rank and file Dem voters are so loyal to the Biden administration even when their actions are obviously against American interests and are resulting in hundreds of thousands of people killed. Is this really a Democratic party agenda Item: Kill lots of people?

  8. Brother John says:

What the imbeciles at the State Department and NATO haven’t figured out is that once the war ends, if Ukraine does join NATO, then the war will resume that same afternoon.

What a bunch of fucking morons.

Persons other than Trump whose views I respect have said for years that there’s been no point to NATO’s continued existence for 30 years.

I’ve disagreed with them, but if NATO is run by people this simple minded and stupid then it’s time to pull out and withdraw funds, the same day we withdraw from the UN, seize its assets, raze the building, and sow the earth with salt.

    What a pitiful comments section.

I’ve been in and out of this blog for six or so years, and it’s the same 4-5 guys doing nothing but calling each other names.

This dowd dude spins up the diaper pail, and the rest of you dive in.

Pitiful. The internet as we know it must cease to exist.

    • Professor Hale says:

      You are not wrong.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

The redoubtable Mr Putin stated clearly he supported ethnic Russians living in Ukraine including the violent rebels in “breakaway” Donbas regions.

Putin questions the right of Ukraine to exist, consistent with the Russian myth (irredentism) that the nations formerly under the USSR umbrella are and should still be part of Mother Russia.

Putin, aiming directly at the US far-right, ridiculously claimed his goal was to denazify Ukraine for the good of the world.

Russia invaded and the world assumed, with Putin, that it would be over soon. The US even offered to help Zelenskyy flee since the Russians were intent on capturing Kiev and Zelensky. He responded that “The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.” Let that sink in. A Jewish actor and comedian leading Ukraine said fizzuck you to Putin AND Biden. The world, except for international Russian puppets (Belarus etc) and the US far-right, condemned the invasion. We’ve discussed the excuses offered by “American” rightists for their enduring allegiance to Putin.

For over a decade, ethnic Russians in the Donbas region (Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts in SE Ukraine) have rebelled against Ukraine. The rebels have been supported and supplied by Russia.

Would/should the US tolerate Russians supplying weapons and materiel to Texas as a “breakaway” state?
