Washington Post Still Trying To Make Memphis Police Murders About Racism

One would think the media would just stop, being that it was five black police officers essentially beating a black man to death, but, nope, they found themselves a meme and won’t let go

Black Memphis police spark dialogue on systemic racism in the U.S.

For the mother of Tyre Nichols, the fact that five Memphis police officers charged with beating her son are also Black has compounded her sorrow as she tries to cope with his violent death at age 29.

“It makes it even harder to swallow,” RowVaughn Wells said in an interview last week, “because they are Black and they know what we have to go through.”

The race of the five officers charged in the Nichols killing has prompted a complex grappling among Black activists and advocates for police reform about the pervasiveness of institutional racism in policing. Nichols died three days after he was pulled out of his car Jan. 7, kicked, punched and struck with a baton on a quiet neighborhood street by Black officers, whose aggressive assault was captured on body-camera videos released Friday.

“A complex grappling” means “how do we Blame white people and America despite “In the Memphis Police Department, 58% of nearly 2,000 commissioned officers are Black, 37% are white and 3% are Hispanic, according to the city government.”” And 6 of the 9 command staff are black, including the chief.

The widely viewed videos of the Nichols beating provided fodder for right-wing media ecosystems that routinely blame Black America’s maladies on Black America, and spawned nuanced conversations among Black activists about how systemic racism can manifest in the actions of non-White people. (snip)

Though some studies have shown that police officers of color use force less frequently against Black civilians than their White counterparts, analysts say the improvement is marginal.

“Diversifying law enforcement is certainly not going to solve this problem,” said Samuel Sinyangwe, president of Mapping Police Violence.

See? It’s all your fault if you’re White. Just take the blame, it’s all about “racial healing”, you know.

A black man beaten to death by five black police officers trained by a black supervisor who was trained by a black female chief of police who receives her orders from a black mayor who is controlled by an all black city council in a city that is 55 percent black is due to white racism.

After much effort, they were able to find one white guy in the vicinity and of course he will be charged. Does anyone know why this happened.

  2. Professor Hale says:

We still don’t know why. I can see one cop loosing his temper, but not 5. Motive might help explain it (not excuse it).

When the wounds are self-inflicted, blaming the victim is wholly appropriate, although we don’t blame ALL of “Black America” for the problems. We DO hold race-baiting morons like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Sheila Jackson Lee et al.

When your “leaders” continually blame your problems on Whitey, how many are going to look outside that answer?

  4. L'Roy White says:

You white folks are fools. You’re being used by race baiting niggas and white leftists into submission. Reparations will never work because nothing will erase the hate generated by self hating leftist whites and programmed leftist blacks.

It’s all about tearing down America. Almost 700,000 American whites died for black freedom yet you all still owe us reparations. The democrats still are racists, still are the KKK and now are the BLM. Go figure how stupid you white crackers are.

    • Professor Hale says:

      You white folks are fools.

      Yes. Fools For Love!

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Note that the Confederate soldiers were fighting to keep blacks enslaved.

It has been estimated that some 360,000 Union soldiers died (including 40,000 Black Union soldiers).

Officially, Black Americans could be forced into substandard schools until Brown v. Board of Education (1954) which ruled that U.S. state laws establishing racial segregation in public schools were unconstitutional. In practice, predominantly Black public schools have yet to catch, largely because of funding issues.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 contained measures to dismantle Jim Crow segregation and combat racial discrimination. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 banned poll taxes, literacy tests, and other measures that effectively prevented Black Americans from voting.

Black men, women and children have been disadvantaged for generations.

It’s hard to imagine how Brown vs Board and the Civil and Voting Rights Acts are tearing down America. Subsidized healthcare? Desiring the police kill fewer people? Or do you think America is better off if we push Black people over to one side and let the superior white people run things?

  5. UnkleC says:

An opinion being expressed by some is that this was a planned ‘beat-down’ by a group of police. The police team / Scorpion Team / group of thugs possibly contained a couple of officers who were not quite up to standards. This could come out, if this isn’t just buried.
I have not personally watched the video, I have listened to analysis by folks versed in analysing such incidents [lawyers, police, etc.] and accept the premise that the kid was a target and there was no actual violation preceding the stop. No ‘white supremacy’, just thuggery in the hood.
    My $.02.

Makes as much sense and anything. For the general public, it will likely remain an unexplained mystery.

  6. Elwood P. Dowd says:

According to this report, on a per capita basis in the US, non-Hispanic Black people are 4 to 5 times more likely to be killed by police than non-Hispanic white people.

OK, WV, Alaska and UT have the worst records against Blacks.

Can Black officers be biased against Black suspects? Of course.

    Findings:
Across all races and states in the USA, we estimate 30,800 deaths (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 30,300–31,300) from police violence between 1980 and 2018; this represents 17,100 more deaths (16,600–17,600) than reported by the USA National Vital Statistics System (NVSS). Over this time period, the age-standardised mortality rate due to police violence was highest in non-Hispanic Black people (0·69 [95% UI 0·67–0·71] per 100,000), followed by Hispanic people of any race (0·35 [0·34–0·36]), non-Hispanic White people (0·20 [0·19–0·20]), and non-Hispanic people of other races (0·15 [0·14– 0·16]). This variation is further affected by the decedent’s sex and shows large discrepancies between states. Between 1980 and 2018, the NVSS did not report 55·5% (54·8–56·2) of all deaths attributable to police violence. When aggregating all races, the
age-standardised mortality rate due to police violence was 0·25 (0·24–0·26) per 100 000 in the 1980s and 0·34 (0·34–0·35) per 100000 in the 2010s, an increase of 38·4% (32·4–45·1) over the period of study.

    Interpretation:
We found that more than half of all deaths due to police violence that we estimated in the USA from 1980 to 2018 were unreported in the NVSS. Compounding this, we found substantial differences in the age standardised mortality rate due to police violence over time and by racial and ethnic groups within the USA. Proven public health intervention strategies are needed to address these systematic biases. State-level estimates allow for appropriate targeting of these strategies to address police violence and improve its reporting.

Of the global killings by police, US officers kill 13% of the total. Yet, we have only 4% of the world’s population.

One can rightly argue that police have more interactions with Black Americans, but many of these killings occur during traffic stops (like the recent case in Memphis).

We need more and better trained police officers. And more guns in the hands of citizens to protect themselves against bad guys.

          Stayin’ classy, conservatives!

How do you like this one?

Ashli Babbitt is on her approximately 740th day of sanity!!

What do you think? Fair? Funny? Making a good point? Cruel? Nasty?

          • CarolAnn says:

Ashley Babbitt was an innocent woman exercising her First Amendment rights. Floyd was a career criminal refusing to obey police demands. Ashley Babbitt was a wife and mother, veteran and Obama supporter (yep) murdered in cold blood by a government goon who was not even punished for an accidental homicide.

Ashley was murdered while resisting tyranny. George Floyd was killed while resisting arrest. Big difference.

When she died the American republic died with her. Our country is now an illegal junta with the power to censor and murder its citizens at will. The left has become everything they used to hate.

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

There is no 1st Amendment right to break into Congress through a broken window while threatening Representatives, Senators and VP Pence.

Like Mr Nichols, as Mr Dana pointed out, it’s possible that Ms Babbitt was high on drugs as she tried to push into Congress, ignoring the shouts of “stop”. If she had succeeded, who knows what the rest of the mob would have done to Congress members and the Vice President. There was only one of the officers against hundreds of the mob screaming like banshees. The lone Capitol Officer was protecting members of Congress from the howling mob. Five officers beat Mr Nichols to death. Nichols didn’t seem like much of a threat.

It might seem cruel to say, but as Mr Dana would likely point out, the death of the violent Babbitt likely made America a better place. It’s sad, though. Ms Babbitt needed mental help, but unfortunately fell in with a gang of violent plotters. Babbitt had a history of run-ins with authorities and was part of an abnormal “throuple” with her husband and a barmaid who lived with them.

The morning Babbitt was killed she tweeted, ““MUST BE DONE LIST before Congress meets today”, which included “Mike Pence @vp @Mike_Pence must resign & thereafter be charged with TREASON,” and, “Chief Justice John Roberts must RESIGN.”

    • Dana says:

      The distinguished Mr Dowd wrote:

Can Black officers be biased against Black suspects? Of course.

That’s an interesting statement, and one with which I agree, but it bears examination. If we assume that black police officers don’t simply hate other blacks, then there must be some sort of reason why black officers might be biased against black suspects. And the most obvious reason would be experience, that other than in very white areas, most criminals with whom the officers will come in contact are black. Any officer, black or white, might look at a black suspect with more of a jaundiced eye, because the probabilities are greater that the black suspect actually did commit an offense.

More, since black Americans — all over, not just in Memphis — are far more likely to be violent criminals, experience would inform officers, regardless of race, that a black suspect is more dangerous than a white one.

I cannot know the motivations of the Memphis Five as individuals or a small group. But, overall, there are some pretty good reasons why black police officers might be biased against black suspects.

  7. drowningpuppies says:

    Coincidence?

As crime-data resources like Disaster Center and the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) program make clear, murders in the United States increased from a low of 14,164 in 2014 — the year Black Lives Matter truly kicked off — to at least 22,900 in 2021, just seven years later.

    Black Lives Matter Anyone?

  8. Dana says:

Tyre Nichols was pulled over for reckless driving, an offense which is serious and can endanger other drivers as well as pedestrians. Under Tennessee Title 55, Chapter 10, §55-10-205, reckless driving is a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months in the county jail. Why was he driving in a manner so unsafe as to attract police attention?

The police in Memphis, as everywhere else, learn from experience, and one of the experiences that the police in Memphis have learned is that black males are the primary perpetrators of crime in the city.

The late Mr Nichols was trying to escape from the police, who had stopped him for reckless driving. The normal suspicion would be that he was playing Casey Jones, driving that train, high on cocaine, and was a serious menace to other drivers and pedestrians. Then he tries to escape, so they responded with physical force to apprehend him.

Yeah, they apparently used way, way, way too much physical force, but I have to wonder: was the late Mr Nichols actually on a recreational pharmaceutical that led to him both driving recklessly and trying to escape apprehension? Was he trying to elude police because he had committed some other offense or had drugs in the vehicle?

The left conveniently forget that St George of Floyd was high on meth and fentanyl when he resisted arrest!

Let’s not forget that “St. George” was a serial felon [ his rap sheet was multiple pages long ] and had moved to MSP for easier pickings as well as the cover of a relative.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Mr Dana reasonably speculates that Mr Nichols was high on drugs, possibly hiding drugs in his car or even had committed a heinous crime and was trying to get away. Most young black men are on drugs and have committed some crime(s). The 5-7 officers involved in his killing probably thought the same thing of Mr Nichols.

Still, five police officers couldn’t subdue a 150 lb guy without beating him to death?

Anyway, it was alleged that Nichols was driving recklessly.

Just because Black men commit crimes at a greater rate that white men, it doesn’t mean that ALL Black men are criminals. That’s bias.

In 2021, 1.13% of Black Americans reported being victims of violent crime. About 1.2% of Black men are in prison, just over half for violent crimes. Is it reasonable to assume that 98% of Black men are not criminals?

Why not just count on the police to arrest, convict and kill (when needed) the “criminals”.

      • drowningpuppies says:

Many, many people of every age and every skin color, Black, Brown, Red, Yellow and White, are justifiably afraid to interact with young Black people. And it has nothing to do with racism, rather an honest understanding of an unfortunate reality: The disproportionate source of the majority of violent crime in America, even if those in positions of authority refuse to admit such.

Even Rimjob still refuses to admit it.

I’m not really sure what that whole scorpion squad was about. I can tell someone went to a lot of high-school level marketing trouble to create an acronym to spell that. All it reminds me of is that old fable of the scorpion and the frog. And the scorpion saying, “you knew I was a scorpion”. No one in the police department higher management saw that coming.
