Obligatory St. Greta Given Time Magazine Person Of The Year Award

Other than blowing off school and preaching at people, what has she done?

(Time) Greta Thunberg sits in silence in the cabin of the boat that will take her across the Atlantic Ocean. Inside, there’s a cow skull hanging on the wall, a faded globe, a child’s yellow raincoat. Outside, it’s a tempest: rain pelts the boat, ice coats the decks, and the sea batters the vessel that will take this slight girl, her father and a few companions from Virginia to Portugal. For a moment, it’s as if Thunberg were the eye of a hurricane, a pool of resolve at the center of swirling chaos. In here, she speaks quietly. Out there, the entire natural world seems to amplify her small voice, screaming along with her.

“We can’t just continue living as if there was no tomorrow, because there is a tomorrow,” she says, tugging on the sleeve of her blue sweatshirt. “That is all we are saying.”

It’s a simple truth, delivered by a teenage girl in a fateful moment. The sailboat, La Vagabonde, will shepherd Thunberg to the Port of Lisbon, and from there she will travel to Madrid, where the United Nations is hosting this year’s climate conference. It is the last such summit before nations commit to new plans to meet a major deadline set by the Paris Agreement. Unless they agree on transformative action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the world’s temperature rise since the Industrial Revolution will hit the 1.5°C mark—an eventuality that scientists warn will expose some 350 million additional people to drought and push roughly 120 million people into extreme poverty by 2030. For every fraction of a degree that temperatures increase, these problems will worsen. This is not fearmongering; this is science. For decades, researchers and activists have struggled to get world leaders to take the climate threat seriously. But this year, an unlikely teenager somehow got the world’s attention.

If you have to say that it’s not fearmongering, it’s fearmongering.

Thunberg began a global movement by skipping school: starting in August 2018, she spent her days camped out in front of the Swedish Parliament, holding a sign painted in black letters on a white background that read Skolstrejk för klimatet: “School Strike for Climate.” In the 16 months since, she has addressed heads of state at the U.N., met with the Pope, sparred with the President of the United States and inspired 4 million people to join the global climate strike on September 20, 2019, in what was the largest climate demonstration in human history. Her image has been celebrated in murals and Halloween costumes, and her name has been attached to everything from bike shares to beetles. Margaret Atwood compared her to Joan of Arc. After noticing a hundredfold increase in its usage, lexicographers at Collins Dictionary named Thunberg’s pioneering idea, climate strike, the word of the year.

So, she’s pretty much known for skipping school and being a dupe of a cult.

The politics of climate action are as entrenched and complex as the phenomenon itself, and Thunberg has no magic solution. But she has succeeded in creating a global attitudinal shift, transforming millions of vague, middle-of-the-night anxieties into a worldwide movement calling for urgent change. She has offered a moral clarion call to those who are willing to act, and hurled shame on those who are not. She has persuaded leaders, from mayors to Presidents, to make commitments where they had previously fumbled: after she spoke to Parliament and demonstrated with the British environmental group Extinction Rebellion, the U.K. passed a law requiring that the country eliminate its carbon footprint. She has focused the world’s attention on environmental injustices that young indigenous activists have been protesting for years. Because of her, hundreds of thousands of teenage “Gretas,” from Lebanon to Liberia, have skipped school to lead their peers in climate strikes around the world.

And she got millions of kids to blow off school.

Thunberg is 16 but looks 12. She usually wears her light brown hair pulled into two braids, parted in the middle. She has Asperger’s syndrome, which means she doesn’t operate on the same emotional register as many of the people she meets. She dislikes crowds; ignores small talk; and speaks in direct, uncomplicated sentences. She cannot be flattered or distracted. She is not impressed by other people’s celebrity, nor does she seem to have interest in her own growing fame. But these very qualities have helped make her a global sensation. Where others smile to cut the tension, Thunberg is withering. Where others speak the language of hope, Thunberg repeats the unassailable science: Oceans will rise. Cities will flood. Millions of people will suffer.

It’s no wonder those in the Cult of Climastrology love her: she’s a nagging scold, no sense of humor, dour, depressive, and unhinged.

It’s a long, long, long, good grief it’s long article, for which Eric Worrall notes “Angry, Whiny, Self-Righteous High-school Dropout Picked as Time Magazine’s Person of the Year.”

  1. Elwood P. Dowd says:

Former Time Person of the Year, President Donald J. Trump has paid $2 million to eight charities as part of a settlement in which the president admitted he misused funds raised by the Donald J. Trump Foundation to promote his presidential bid and pay off business debts, the New York State attorney general said on Tuesday. ….. Mr. Trump’s lawyers also agreed to liquidate the Trump Foundation’s remaining assets of more than $1.7 million and disburse them to those same nonprofits, which have no connection to the president or his family.

In addition: As part of the settlement, Mr. Trump’s three children who were officers of the foundation — Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump — were ordered to undergo mandatory training to ensure they do not engage in similar misconduct in the future.

    A million here, a million there…

    • Nighthawk says:

And this has exactly SQUAT to do with St. Greta and climate change.

      • formwiz says:

Considering how many lies the Gray Lady tells, citing them is hardly an indictment.

And your carbon offsets are merely indulgences for the cult of Gaia.

What’s a laugh is that this is what he bitches about rather than the money that was really extorted from foreign governments through the Ozark Global Slush Fund.

    • Bill589 says:

      Elwood. Hypocrite.

    • Doom and Gloom says:

      @Elwood.

      Too funny.

      .
Elwood did you know this serious and earthshaking investigation by the NY AG who has vowed to get Trump is, in essence, a man going after a 990PF or private foundation.

Sounds horrible since Trump basically writes the checks himself to the charities he chooses.

      Oh, the humanity.

But Based upon an in-depth investigation by FORBES:

“So I’m looking at statistics for 2014 and I see that there were 97,484 990-PFs filed. How many of those do you think are essentially like the Trump Foundation in that they are essentially checkbooks without much in the way of governance?” Paul responded:

      NINETY-SEVEN MILLION 990PF’s just like Trump’s.

My guess, based on anecdotal evidence, is that a lot of the smaller foundations benefit their founders in various ways,

      FORBES MORAL:

It appears that the business entities of the Trump Organization of which there are hundreds all end up on Donald Trump’s individual return.

And since this is tax-exempt in the first place and there is records of many charities receiving money the only thing the AG could do was tell Trump to Play nice and follow the rules more closely.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL….and yet you make it look like Trump is the only person in the USA with a 990PF instead of almost 100,000,000 of them in existence.

  2. Nighthawk says:

Staying on the subject, someone really needs to inform St. Greta about how this is NOT science and that every prediction made thus far has failed to occur. We still know what snow looks like, the Arctic still has ice, hurricanes are not stronger and more frequent, neither are tornadoes, islands haven’t flipped over or disappeared, the list goes on and on.

I wonder if in 10 to 15 years, when she is all growed up with some real life experience and NONE of the doom and gloom predictions have come to pass, if she will still be screeching about climate change or will she become a voice of reason and call out those that duped her.

  3. Elwood P. Dowd says:

Greta Thunberg trolled Stumpy, changing her twitter profile to: “A teenager working on her anger management problem. Currently chilling and watching a good old fashioned movie with a friend.”

Or did she?? Maybe George Soros changed it.

The person who thinks he deserves to be Person of the Year every year is a crook who bilks charities and hard working Americans who want to get ahead (remember Trump U, LOL? Stumpy paid out $25 million).

The so-called President of the United States of America is spending his morning in a twitter war with a teenager, and she’s winning. May the gods have mercy. Makes sense, he has a history of attacking women.

    • formwiz says:

Hypocrite Hare is just mad because his side, finally, is losing.

They met somebody who fights back and, better yet, wins.

As for Snippi Longstocking and her “award”, nobody even cares anymore since Time ceased to be a voice in the marketplace long ago and let us not forget, Time’s previous awards included Der Fuhrer and Admiral Yamamoto, so she’s in the right company or, as somebody noted, David Hogg must be soooo jealous.

Makes sense, he has a history of attacking women.

No, that’s your boy, Willie, although St Greta’s about the right age for him these days.

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Stumpy was sued for raping a 13 yr old in Epstein’s mansion. Stumpy invaded the dressing room at Miss Teen USA and bragged about seeing naked teens. Stumpy has many pictures fondling his teen daughter Ivana (later renamed Ivanka). Stumpy told a young girl on an escalator that he’d be dating her in ten years. Stumpy attended sex parties with teen girls at his Plaza Hotel in the 90s.

So yeah, Stumpy has a reputation with teen girls.

Plus all his sexual assaults on adult women.

        Stop lying.

        • Liljeffyatemypuppy says:

          Keep trying, dipshit.

          Lolgfy little sissybitch https://www.thepiratescove.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cool.gif

        • Bill589 says:

And yet Elwood is the only lying hypocrite here.
Elwood can’t win the argument, so he changes the subject.
And then he can’t win that argument either.
I guess it’s time to change the subject again….

        • formwiz says:

          Prove it.

None of this has gotten into a court of law. And just because he was sued doesn’t mean it happened.

Witness (or, in your case, witless) Christine Floozy Ford.

The only lies are yours because all you have is hate. And envy.

  4. Elwood P. Dowd says:

    nighthawk,

The Earth IS warming, a result of all the greenhouse gas (mostly CO2) we humans have added to atmosphere over the past century. The evidence is even more overwhelming than the evidence that our President is a crook.

Arctic ice IS melting as is the Greenland ice sheet and parts of Antarctica and other glaciers.

Ms. Thunberg is correct. You are incorrect. Maybe it’s time we old white guys listen to others.

    • formwiz says:

No, Ms Thnderthighs is a psychotic being manipulated by evil people (ie, Leftists) and she’s dead wrong.

The only thing warming is the Southern Hemisphere because that’s where the sun is these days.

    • Nighthawk says:

Wrong. There is NO proof that the current warming is the result of man’s activities.

Is there still ice in the Arctic? It was predicted to be ice free 7 years ago.

Is there still snow? It was said that our children wouldn’t know what snow is.

If the science is settled and we understand the climate and what drives it so well, why has EVERY prediction made based on that settled science not come to pass??

You rubes keep screeching about the Greenland Ice Sheet is melting, the glaciers are disappearing, or any number of other BS things. But guess what? We live on a dynamic planet. Things change, Ice melts, glaciers recede, weather happens. All of these things that are being being pointed to as signs of disaster have happened in the past. We survived. In fact, we prospered and thrived during these warm periods. It was during the cold periods that life suffered.

But, by all means, let’s reduce to dangerous levels a gas in our atmosphere that is essential for all life on this planet so we can go back to the good old days of cold, ice and death.

    • Bill589 says:

Elwood = Liar, liar, pants on fire.
Try believing the science over the socialists.

    • Jl says:

Arctic, Greenland and glaciers melting just like they did earlier last century with much lower CO2. Inconvenient
      https://realclimatescience.com/2016/01/disappearing-glaciers/

    • Jl says:

About those glaciers..where does J get his propaganda from? https://twitter.com/sylviad32911201/status/1204614928482496512?s=21

  5. I wonder what Greta will do with the rest of her life. “Activist tool” normally has a limited life of a year or two.

    • formwiz says:

A Time award is usually the kiss of death, so she may be gone by New Year’s.

    • Doom and Gloom says:

I would surmise Hale with the 1000 billionaires on the AGW side that they will decimate the worlds economy. But thats okay right? They did after all save their pennies and now have a right to do whatever they want. Including destroying entire cities in the name of profit.

So Greta will be well taken care of for her part. Rest assured your billionaire buddies with the right to do what they WANT when they WANT will be just fine.

      • Dude,
Check your meds. You aren’t making any sense.

If the Billionaires only “Decimate” the world’s economy, that wouldn’t be so bad. That means 90% of it is just fine.

In general, if a billionaire, or a thousand-dollar-aire, owns a business, then he can sell off or even close that business. That is just how reality works. It was a publicly traded company. The people in the town didn’t care enough about it to buy 51% of the voting stock and force it to stay where they wanted it.

        • Doom and Gloom says:

Says the man who sells missiles to kill children for his masters.

I can understand you vulture capitalism. Decimate does mean 1/10th. How did it fare for the USA when unemployment went from 3 to 13 percent or 1/10 of 100. Pretty bad huh? I bet you were cheering those billionaires as they raked up cheap stocks, sold off companies who struggled and ended people’s hopes and dreams because they saved their pennies and they COULD.

I find every post you make here offensive. There is nothing redeeming in defending rich bitch billionaires destroying people’s lives because THEY CAN. No one is or has talked about voluntarily selling off their business. I have been talking about being forced into selling because a rich bitch billionaire will make you or do a hostile take over of our company and then SELL you off leaving entire communities decimated and destroyed.

And you defend that because those billionaires saved their pennies. A true sociopath Libertarian viewpoint.

          • Doom and Gloom says:

Under Romney’s leadership, Bain certainly created wealth for its investors, no matter what happened to the companies it acquired or the the people worked for them. The Wall Street Journal’s revealing look at Romney’s time at Bain shows that 22% of the companies Bain invested on under Romney’s watch either filed for bankruptcy, reorganized, or closed their doors — sometimes with substantial job losses. As Pat Garofalo pointed out, that’s nearly one fourth of the companies Bain invested in.

The 2012 Presidential nominee was a VULTURE CAPITALIST which is why my wife and I stayed home rather than vote for that dick.

Bain and its investors profited, no matter what happened to the companies in its portfolio. According to the Wall Street Journal, 70% of Bain’s returns came from just 10 deals. The LA Times article notes that “Four of the 10 companies Bain acquired declared bankruptcy within a few years, shedding thousands of jobs.” Still, Bain profited in eight of those ten deals, including three of the four that went bankrupt.

And I know to most of you this doesn’t mean much. It happens to other guys. Well I know other guys. My brother’s daughter lost her job at Cabella’s by a vulture capitalist forcing them to sell and then moving their headquarters out of Sidney, NE. She in turn lost her home and her life and had to move to another city, penniless because even their severance package was a joke.

Just because you can, doesnt mean you should and the fact the GOP condones this is why they are considered heartless sob’s who only care about the rich and in my argument with Hale, its obvious he only cares about the rich and screw all those people who lost their jobs.

And with that. I am out of here. I can’t stand having my words on the same pages as this moron. I would rather debate john or Elwood than someone who defends destroying peoples lives because they are rich.

        • Professor Hale says:

          D&G
I don’t even read your rants anymore. I can’t trust anyone who is in the pay of the MIC like you are. I’ve never understood why people like to pick fights with total strangers on the internet. I personally don’t see any attraction in it. Good luck to you and Merry Christmas. I hope Santa brings you all the toys you want this year and makes up for stiffing you last year. Best wishes to you and yours.

I hear the number of Demos jumping on the no impeach bandwagon is getting bigger, so it won’t be long before Bolshevik Bunny turns into Bolshevik Bear.

It only takes 18, although it won’t save the Demos next year.

  7. Bill589 says:

Autistic Greta is being used and abused by her parents and the ‘Climate Change’ conglomeration.
I think this is child abuse.
I hope someday she wakes up and becomes aware of who in the world is using her and then, if she hates anybody, it would be these ‘climate change’ losers.

And then live her own life: For instance, “go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend.”
