NY Times Wonders Why Jay Inslee Isn’t Catching On When ‘Climate Change’ Isn’t

There really is a very simply answer for this, which NY Times writer Tripp Gabriel misses

Climate Change Is Catching On With Voters. Why Isn’t Jay Inslee?

For years, climate change was an issue of passionate concern to a few voters, but never enough to ripple presidential politics. The Hillary Clinton-Donald Trump debates in 2016 notoriously did not include any questions from moderators about global warming.

But after an alarming onslaught of floods, wildfires and catastrophic weather, dire scientific warnings about the impact of a changing planet and a president who dismisses it all, climate change has moved up drastically in polls of Democratic voters’ priorities. In some surveys, it has equaled or topped health care and jobs.

And that raises a paradox: Why is the only candidate making climate change the center of his campaign, who has rolled out ambitious policies and has a track record of achievements, Gov. Jay Inslee of Washington, stuck in the polling basement?

One answer?

Rather, Mr. Weber said, Mr. Inslee’s singular focus on climate change was, paradoxically, the reason he has yet to attract waves of millennial supporters.

“Young people and Democratic primary voters of course want to see a candidate putting climate change and the urgency of it at the forefront,” said Mr. Weber, the organization’s political director. “But we also want to see a candidate who is addressing the other issues we care about.” He listed affordable college, health care, racial justice and immigration rights.

Nope, that’s not it.

Ed Fallon, a climate activist in Iowa, who runs a group that dresses in penguin suits to confront candidates about climate, said Mr. Inslee’s challenge was not his age or his personality. He just needs to show up more on the campaign trail, he said.

Very stupid person is also wrong, and those are the only two reasons offered by a story that starts with a question.

‘Climate change’ action may be popular in theory among Democrat voters per polling, but, it is not particularly popular in practice. In action. In passing laws that will personally affect those voters. That will increase their cost of living and reduce their personal liberty. They’re fine when it hurts That Guy, Other People, Someone Else, but they see what people like Inslee are pushing and know it will hurt themselves.

And that’s just it: no matter what is done, it will always hurt the common person. What people need to know is that all costs are borne by the end consumer of every product. You increase taxes on corporations, and those taxes are simply passed on in their sales prices. You increase costs on a corporation, same thing.

WOW! University of Pennsylvania study: America under Trump is LESS racist

    https://commoncts.blogspot.com/2019/05/wow-university-of-pennsylvania-study.html

    • Kye says:

America may be less racist but the Democrat Communist Party followers and their useful idiots in the media and academia a growing more racist daily. My observation is it seems black people are becoming more racist and more violently racist as are the ant-white racists. They go bonkers when someone says something as obvious as “It’s okay to be white” or “All Lives Matter”. Obvious truths to reasonable people but triggers to leftists. Odd really.

  4. Elwood P. Dowd says:

America seems less racist because the borderline racists are horrified by the overt racism of trump and the rightists.

    “You Won’t Replace Us!”

Of course it seemed more racist when President Obama was elected – the racists felt threatened and they let it be known – Obama was a Kenyan, a Muslim, lazy, shoe shine boy, a mooch family, unAmerican, anti-white… and on and on.

TEACH and his minions don’t even have the self-realization that they are racists.

    • david7134 says:

      Jeff,
Everyone one here views you as the worst of racist.

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

        davy,

That’s exactly what I would expect a virulent racist to say! (And exactly how you would say it!)

Do you still consider Black people (who made you rich) stupid, lazy and violent? TEACH and most of the Con-menters here (but not gitar) think so.

        • formwiz says:

So, you agree you’re a racist.

        • david7134 says:

          Jeff,
You are on record as supporting affirmative action and similar programs as blacks are not capable of competing in academics and work with whites, Latinos and Asians. Can’t get much more racist than that.

    • formwiz says:

Well, that’s what Willie Whitewater and Gropin’ Joe thought.

And he didn’t have a trace of Negro dialect.

America seems less racist because the borderline racists are horrified by the overt racism of trump and the rightists.

It’s not about seeming more racist, it’s about fewer racially inspired attacks since Zippy, who hates his black half, is gone.

Once you have a Prez who doesn’t try to incite race incidents (“The police acted stupidly”, “If I had a son, he would look like Trayvon”), things calm down.

    • Kye says:

Elwood, why do you keep repeating in quotes “You Won’t Replace Us”? Is that some sort of leftist code for wanting to replace us? And if Free people say they don’t want to be replaced, how is it racist? Who is trying to replace whom? Why? How ill they replace them? Is this call for replacement a call for genocide (which the left is so proficient at)?

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

You’re being disingenuous. “YOU Won’t Replace Us!” was bellowed by the white supremacists in Charlottesville, sprinkled with “JEWS Won’t Replace us!” White supremacists fear that Blacks, Mexicans, Jews, Muslims will displace them from their privileged positions.

“Blood and Soil” is another fearful cry from white nationalists – “Blood” referring to racial purity and “Soil” referring to the homeland.

Do you think Muslims, Blacks, Jews, Mexicans (or any subset of these groups) are trying to “replace” white people or rather to obtain equal rights with white people?

        • formwiz says:

          Charlottesville, again?

That was years ago. I guess Daniel Decatur Emmett was right and Old times there are not forgotten.

And Blood and Soil was a Kraut thing. Lebensraum. Americans always had wide open spaces. Some, between their ears.

Do you think Muslims, Blacks, Jews, Mexicans (or any subset of these groups) are trying to “replace” white people or rather to obtain equal rights with white people?

          You keep saying it.

          Brown Wave?

          • Liljeffyatemypuppy says:

Do you think Muslims, Blacks, Jews, Mexicans (or any subset of these groups) are trying to “replace” white people or rather to obtain equal rights with white people?

Maybe little missy would like to qualify what “rights” white people have that are “unequal” to the other groups? https://www.thepiratescove.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cool.gif

      Mr Dowd wrote:

When the left define racism as: “Opposition to liberal policies; opposition to President Barack Obama,” then sure, the left are going to define all sensible Americans as racist.

It’s like the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee describing the 57% of white women who voted against her as controlled by their husbands and boyfriends; the thought that anyone is allowed to think differently from Our Betters on the left is simply beyond their comprehension.

Then again, so many things are beyond their comprehension.

  5. david7134 says:

    Jeff,
You support affirmative action and other programs of a similar nature as you believe black people are not as capable of as intelligent as whites and Asians, at least that is what can be understood from your comments.

    • Kye says:

That’s EXACTLY what Elwood and the rest of the leftists have been saying for decades, david7134. They think all blacks are stupid because they lead some around by their noses with free stuff. And they hate when those Negroes get uppity and wander off the plantation like Clarence Thomas, Walter Williams and Thomas Sowell. In America, the black civil rights movement should never have gone beyond the legal, but it turned into a war on whites. That’s where your racism can be found, Elwood. It’s your side that keeps separating Americans into races, sexes and classes to formulate trouble, not ours.

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

        Kye,

It’s naïve if not deceitful to believe that conservatives don’t see race. It took the force of the federal government to get conservative whites to grudgingly and violently consent to even acknowledging civil rights for Black Americans.

In 2016, the median household income of white Americans was $61,349, and for Blacks, $38,555.

Is that largely because Blacks are less intelligent and lazier than whites, or largely because of systemic cultural discrimination over generations? Some of both?

        • Kye says:

Again Elwood, you put words and lies in my mouth. Please point out where I said I believe “conservatives do no see race”? Show me or admit you lie. It took the force of the federal government to get RACIST DEMOCRAT WHITES to grudgingly and violently consent and to even acknowledge civil rights for blacks. Remember, the party of anti-slavery was founded by whites and led by whites and beat the Democrat South in a war to free their slaves.

The disparity in median incomes in 2016 was because fr years the Democrat Party has had a mission to keep as many blacks in the Democrat created ghettos of the inner city as possible dependent on the Dems for housing, food, health care and education. The very education that no white person would tolerate. And the Dems make sure they can’t get vouchers to enjoy the same freedom of choice many whites do in education.

So you see it’s largely because of RACIAL not cultural discrimination by Democrats by keeping the blacks entrapped in generational welfare. In case you haven’t noticed, Elwood. All you need to do is look at the major cities controlled by Democrats some a slong as for 60-80 years and more and see they are what the Democrats created. There are no WHITE. CONSERVATIVE. RACISTS to be seen in those places. It’s all on you guys and you just won’t admit ALL OF YOUR POLICIES FAIL!!!! Don’t believe me? Look at Venezuela. That’s EXACTLY what your half of the US will look like within ten years of separation.

In the year you specified, 2016, 24% of white children were living in single parent households, while 66% of black children were. Simply having one parent in the household rather than two means that there is only one parent who can work rather than two. Should it be a surprise that median household income for blacks is far lower than that for whites?

Black families could, of course, choose to live in two-parent households; it ain’t Donald Trump or Fox News telling black fathers that they can’t live with the mothers of their children.

We know that dropping out of high school has a huge, negative impact on future earnings. Nationwide, 69% of black high school students go on to graduate, while 86% of white high school students do. Do you think that might have a negative, aggregate effect on black vs white median incomes?

Not including a link, since a third link would send this comment into moderation, but we all know that black Americans commit felonies at a far greater rate than do whites; some estimates have a third of adult black men having a felony conviction on their records. Being in prison means you aren’t earning money, and even after you get out, having a felony on your record forecloses a lot of employment opportunities. If a significantly greater percentage of blacks have criminal records, such will have a negative effect on aggregate earning for black Americans. Did George Bush force black men to try to knock over convenience stores at greater rates than white men, or was that the aggregate effect of millions of decisions within the black community?

The disparity is reflected in racial statistics, but it isn’t because whites are racists.

You want to blame it on racism, using a double-edged sword, asking if Kye thinks them Negroes is stupider and lazier than white Americans, or if societal and cultural racism caused it. That the largest part of it is the result of the aggregate decision taking within the black community — Betsy DeVos doesn’t force more black than white kids to drop out — is out-of-bounds in your formulation.

        • formwiz says:

It took the force of a guy named Eisenhower most would call a Conservative to do it.

Not to mention a segregationist named Johnson.

Is that largely because Blacks are less intelligent and lazier than whites

First, how’s ’bout a source (I mean, how are we tipping the scales today)?

Second, maybe the old segregationists were right and there is only a Talented Tenth.

Third, a lot of it has to do with bad life choices, why do you think that is?

Finally, blacks have had all kinds of advantages in the last 50 years the Irish, Germans, Italians, and Poles never had in their first 50 years here and yet they prospered (and don’t tell anybody it was because they were white (fun fact, the Union Army lost the battle of Chancellorsville because none of the officers at Hooker’s HQ would take the word of a German) because a lot of blacks are still more accepted than Catholics or Jews).

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

      davy,

What I know for a fact is that Blacks suffered (and still do) from discrimination for over 2 centuries.

      Certainly you won’t deny that?

That’s not to absolve any individual of their actions, but in general don’t you agree it’s easier to be a white man than a Black man in the US, or do you think Blacks get advantages that makes their lives easy?

  6. Harlan says:

“…climate change has moved up drastically in polls of Democratic voters’ priorities.”

If true, it’s because they are the lowest of low information voters.
In fact, they’re pretty much no information voters.

  7. Kye says:

“…climate change has moved up drastically in polls of Democratic voters’ priorities.” That just proves if you repeat propaganda to leftists over and over they buy it. Hell, if leftists now believe men can become women they’ll buy anything.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

The Earth is warming rapidly from CO2 accumulating in the atmosphere from our burning of fossil fuels. There is no physical reason to expect the warming to stop without a reduction in atmospheric CO2.

Do you deny the Earth is warming?

Do you deny that CO2 is increasing?

Do you deny that infrared radiation is absorbed by CO2?

Why do you think the Earth is rapidly warming?

      • Kye says:

I believe the earth MAY be warming. I do no believe man’s contribution to that warming is a major factor, could be changed without destroying out culture and economy or will make a “catastrophic” impact on the overall nature of earth before we progress into other forms of energy and advanced technology.

We have created the most Free, most prosperous, advanced and powerful nation in history. If we can figure out how to go to the moon and beyond without crazy taxes, laws, regulations and fascistic government mandates we can surely help the environment over time.

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

“If we can go to the moon without government help we can solve global warming!!”

Actually, the gov’t played a role in putting a man on the moon. Our top marginal tax rate was not 20%, 30%, 40%, 50% or 60%. It was 70%!! And now?

Do you consider a graduated tax on carbon emissions fascism? How about a 70% income tax rate?

          • Kye says:

Elwood, you always prove me right by lying about what I typed. I never said “If we can go to the moon without government help we can solve global warming!!”.

I know the government played a role in putting man in space by utilizing the expertise of American companies and entrepreneurs. What does our top marginal tax rate have to do with it?

I consider ANY graduated tax immoral because it does not treat our citizens equally. Whether or not that’s fascistic I don’t know. I do know it’s un American to either favor or penalize citizens differently. Under what moral scenario is stealing 70% of a persons earnings not considered slavery? What could possibly justify the government confiscating more of a persons earning than he is “permitted” to keep?

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

            Kye,

You call a tax on carbon emissions fascism, but you don’t know if a 70% top marginal tax rate is fascism?

If you were ever in a position of authority would you ever hire a Muslim?

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Just around the corner a boutique bakery/ice cream shop just opened. We stopped in today and the baked goods were all Middle Eastern treats! The employees appeared to be a Muslim dad and two kids. Pretty scary, isn’t it?

      • formwiz says:

        Yes.

        Yes.

        No.

        No.

Who says there’s no such thing as a stupid question?

  8. Elwood P. Dowd says:

Perhaps ask all those conservative Americans in Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska and Arkansas if their concern for global warming have changed?

Regarding the opinions of various ideological groups, understand that a majority of Republicans think trump is doing a good job.

    • JGlanton says:

“Americans in Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska and Arkansas if their concern for global warming have changed”

These “tornado alley” residents are more aware of extreme weather events than most, and as such they are aware that the counts of strong tornadoes are not as high as they used to be. There were none in 2018. So if their climate is changing, it is for the good.

    • Dana says:

It wasn’t in the great state of Texas in which the voters rejected the carbon tax initiative proposed by Governor Jay Inslee; that was very blue state Washington. It wasn’t in the United States in which a party running on fighting global warming climate change defied all of the projections, and was defeated in an election that it just couldn’t lose; that was more liberal Australia, which had just gone through its hottest summer on record.

Your problem isn’t that conservatives aren’t listening to you; your problem is that liberal voters don’t like your ‘solutions.’

    • Dana says:

The left have proven to be very great listeners when it comes to the Chicken Littles telling them that we’re all doomed due to global warming climate change, but are pretty much hypocrites when it comes to actually doing anything about it in their personal lives.

I went ahead and, on my poor farm, installed a solar-and-wind powered clothes dryer. Do you think that Al Gore or John François Kerry have done the same on their properties? What have you done, personally, to show us that you take your warnings seriously?

They seem to specialize in middle eastern treats, baklava etc, not cakes, but I can ask them.

How will you get me the money?

Let’s agree that you would never hire a Muslim if you were hiring. Do you think there have been hiring managers in the past (and present) who are much less likely to hire Black people? What effect over a few generations might that behavior have on Black society in general?
