Over at the NY Times, we find that anti-gun Hillary Clinton is still all for limiting the rights of law abiding citizens to be armed in public. She apparently doesn’t believe that a good guy with a gun is safe.

The 33,000 figure is a lie (and also fails to note how many of them occur in Democratic Party run cities and states), but, really, she fails to address the fundamental question: if guns in the hands of good guys are dangerous, if arming teachers and school employees is dangerous, why is it OK that she and her family are surrounded by people carrying guns?

The rate of deaths by firearms in the US is some 5-50 times greater than other economically advanced nations. And we have by far the greatest murder rate of the economically advanced nations. It’s not all just the availability of firearms of course. The basic inequality in America compared to the European nations certainly contributes. Our disdain for the elderly and our poor record toward mental illness probably contributes to our suicide rate.
So… if guns were keeping us safer wouldn’t we expect a lower murder rate than every other economically advanced nation on Earth?
We’re going to keep our guns, the 2nd amendment and the Supreme Court say so. But let’s not invent myths about how valuable they are to society. They’re not. They are playthings. The price we pay for these playthings is thousands of dead, including hundreds of dead children.
