Oh Noes! “Republicans Are Beginning To Act Like Obama Isn’t Even President”

If only. Here’s the Washington Post’s Paul Waldman

It’s safe to say that no president in modern times has had his legitimacy questioned by the opposition party as much as Barack Obama.

It’s as if Waldman, and all the Democrats who believe that claptrap, forgot about the 8 years George W. Bush spent as POTUS.

But as his term in office enters its final phase, Republicans are embarking on an entirely new enterprise: They have decided that as long as he holds the office of the presidency, it’s no longer necessary to respect the office itself.

Oh, they (we) respect the office: we don’t respect the quasi-dictator inhabiting it.

Is that a bit hyperbolic? Maybe. But this news is nothing short of stunning:

A group of 47 Republican senators has written an open letterto Iran’s leaders warning them that any nuclear deal they sign with President Barack Obama’s administration won’t last after Obama leaves office. (snip)

It’s one thing to criticize the administration’s actions, or try to impede them through the legislative process. But to directly communicate with a foreign power in order to undermine ongoing negotiations? That is appalling. And just imagine what those same Republicans would have said if Democratic senators had tried such a thing when George W. Bush was president.

Ah, but they did. How many times did the Democrats look to undermine Bush when it came to Iraq, and even Afghanistan? How about Nancy Pelosi going to Syria? Democrats have a long history of undermining Republican presidents.

York goes on to write more on the subject.

Perhaps the GOP wouldn’t need to do this, which has sent Team Obama and Democrats into a (typical) rage, had Obama not looked to give away the kitchen sink to Iran.

    Here’s the Wall Street Journal:

The “Logan Act” makes it a felony and provides for a prison sentence of up to three years for any American, “without authority of the United States,” to communicate with a foreign government in an effort to influence that government’s behavior on any “disputes or controversies with the United States.”

Sounds pretty clear. And a felony.

Of course this was in 2007 regarding Speaker Pelosi’s trip to Syria. The Journal thought Pelosi should be investigated by a special prosecutor. (They didn’t call for a special prosecutor for the 5 Republican Congressmen who also visited Damascus a few days earlier than Pelosi).

Now we have 47 Senators, described as traitors by some news outlets, directly interfering with the negotiations between the US and Iran. Iranian officials referred to it as a domestic political ploy, which of course, it is. It’s the GOP firing up their base in the constant march to invasions that Repubicuns live for. It shows how “tough” they are in preps for the 2016 elections.

Will conservative outlets call for a special prosecutor for the GOP Senators, some of who would enjoy the “manly” atmosphere of prison.

Will liberal news outlets admit their hypocrisy in not calling the offending parties “traitors” when Democrats did basically the same thing in the past?

  3. Jl says:

And a letter pointing out how our constitution works is an interesting use of the word “traitor.”

Wouldn’t it be nice if the democrats were as worried about not being Iran’s bitch as they were about Republicans trying to save the dems from themselves. And I love when left plays lawyer on the internet.
