Earth Is Like Totally Moving Towards A 6th Great Extinction Or Something

We need to head the warnings, y’all! Because it’s the end of days!

Heed the Warnings: Why We’re on the Brink of Mass Extinction

Evolutionary biologist Sean B. Carroll, executive producer of the doc Mass Extinction: Life At the Brink, on why mankind’s days are numbered.

…..

But now, to that list of calamities to learn from, we need to add “mass extinctions.”

Mass extinctions?

Yes, because nature’s warning lights are flashing. In the past forty years, Earth has lost half of its wild animal populations. Africa’s lions are one telling example. Thought the King of the Beasts was protected?

Think again. Fifty years ago, about 400,000 lions roamed Africa. Today, there are only about 30,000 remaining, as they have disappeared from twenty-six countries.

Carroll has a point. There is a big loss of life within the animal kingdom, and much can be blamed on Mankind. But, hey, you know this all has to point towards “climate change”, right?

The potential losses of species are on a scale that is rivaled by only a few events in the last 500 million years of Earth’s history. Five times during that span, the majority of species on the planet vanished in a short interval of time. Scientists have now identified the triggers of two of those events: an asteroid that struck Earth 66 million years ago and wiped out dinosaurs and much more, and massive eruptions of volcanoes underneath Siberia that decimated the world 252 million years ago.

While the triggers for these two calamities were different, detailed study of what unfolded in the past reveals a common mode of destruction that is relevant to understanding our predicament today: in each case, mass extinction resulted from large and rapid environmental change on a global scale. Indeed, the main weapons of mass destruction unleashed by the Siberian eruptions included enormous quantities of the very familiar climate-changing gas carbon dioxide. The great concern of scientists today is that the potential global temperature changes projected over the next century approach those that took place 252 million years ago.

Despite what computer models showed, or maybe just to spite computer models, there has been an 18+ year pause in warming, where temps have only gone up in a statistically insignificant way. There has been a miniscule 1.4F increase since 1850, less than one would expect during a Holocene warm period. But, Warmists are predicting doom and gloom in the future, anywhere from a 2C to 6C increase, based on the same computer models that failed 95% of the time.

Lest one think this is anything new, Warmists have been trotting out the 6th Great Extinction scareathon over the last few years, attempting to scare people to gin up support for their far left Progressive policies of increased taxation, increased centralized Government, and decreased control of our own lives and business, where that control is handed over to the central government.

At the current rate of loss in the animal kingdom, it would take 250,000 years to be concerned. Another book concerned about the 6th ME recycles old, outdated freakouts. Greenpeace co-founder Dr. Patrick Moore slammed the 6th ME yammering for what it is: a scare attempt. The 6th ME yammering relies on made up numbers and panic.

Warmists need to continue to amp up their invective in order to keep their cult going.

Patrick Moore? LOL. Moore works for the Nuclear Energy Institute front group, and the Clean and Safe Energy Coalition. He has worked for the mining industry, the logging industry, PVC manufacturers and the nuclear industry. Moore’s money shot is that species will adjust and evolve over the next 100,000 to 250,000 years just like the polar bear came to be! Don’t worry, be happy! Species will adapt to all that humans throw at them!

Moore is just another corporate whore.

The Earth is still warming. A 1.4F increase in the average global surface temperature is a big deal, so obviously a 3 to 10F increase is a bigger deal. This “miniscule” increase is greater than the total temperature excursions in human history. The computer models have not failed. They are not designed to model short term events, e.g., volcanoes, ENSO etc.
Although we have a lot to yet learn about climate, that is settled is that the Earth is warming from greenhouse gases we’ve added to atmosphere by burning fossil fuels.

Human-induced rapid changes in the climate will continue to cause extinctions, but the Deni-o-sphere will continue to call it “natural” (when what they mean is “magical”).

Mass extinctions are nothing new, and the recognition of this extinction phase is not new.

Notice how Jeff discredits anyone that opposed his view point as a whore because they either hold a job or used to work for groups that he does not like. This means that they can’t have an independent opinion in his world. Yet, to a man, the people that old Jeff likes are either employed by the government or similar entities or receiving millions in grant money. Yet, these people are smart and great and all like Gruber. Jeff, they are manipulating you, can’t you see.

Now, as to species extinction, a classic example is what happened to the elephant. There numbers were doing well, but the liberals and Delberts, like Jeff, decided that the African hunters were a problem and so they got rid of the hunters. Result, the elephant population plummeted. Why? Because the great white hunters were keeping the heard healthy and in the off season they were hunting the poachers. Classic example of what happens when the people like Jeff decide policy.

    • John says:

You idiot it is Dilbert not Delbert
And trophy hunting is NOT good it removes the best genes from the pool
Something tells me David you haven’t done a lot of hunting
That is also what is bad with hunting bucks it too limits the gene pool

  3. John says:

Gee Teach surprising that you are mocking the belief in the end times
So many AGW deniers do believe that we are in the end times and that the return of Jesus is nigh on
Better to post easy nut picking stories than one on hottest year ever

  4. Jeffery says:

I didn’t discredit Moore, his occupation does. He’s a lobbyist for industries that will benefit from NOT addressing global warming.

Do you have any evidence to support your tall tale about African elephants? Even the slightest amount of evidence? As far as I know they are still hunted for trophy. A much bigger problem is poaching for ivory. Do you really favor allowing the elephants to be killed for ivory?

Do you really believe that killing more elephants will add to the elephant population? I’m not surprised since nutzoid right-wingers also think tax cuts increase revenue.

  5. gitarcarver says:

Gee Teach surprising that you are mocking the belief in the end times

Well gee john, just the other day you were screaming how Teach attacked the messenger and not the message and yet you don’t say anything about Jeffery doing the same thing in his first comment.

    Wonder why that is?

  6. jl says:

Yes, J, the species will adapt and evolve, just as they’ve done before. And no, the earth is not warming. And if it were, that’s no proof as to the cause. You and the other astrologers still have nothing, except more scare tactics that never come true. “Brink of mass extinction..” What a fool.

  7. Jeffery says:

    j,

You put the D in Denier.

  8. david7134 says:

    John, Jeff,
I love how you constantly show ignorance of every fabric of our lives and existence. Now I can add hunting to the numerous things you have no idea of along with the economy, business, government, social issues, climate, the list goes on and on.

  9. Jeffery says:

    dave,

Do you hunt? I do. Have all my life. Deer, squirrels, rabbits, quail, doves, geese, ducks…

But let’s be clear, hunting is not designed to help wildlife populations.

Do you really believe that endangered elephant populations have resulted from too little killing of endangered elephants?

    Let’s follow your logic:
Killing more elephants will increase the herd size.
Regulated hunting for elephants prevents hunters from killing enough elephants to allow the herd to increase.
Poachers killing 35,000 elephants a year IS causing the populations to decrease.
Hunters hunting poachers in the off-season will balance the populations.

Do hunters killing elephants have a different impact than poachers killing elephants? Is it just the numbers?

  10. Jeffery says:

    dave,

It’s pretty evident you read little more than StormFront and few other far-right blogs, but you might read this article about elephants.

    http://www.usnews.com/news/world/articles/2014/08/18/100-000-elephants-killed-in-africa-study-finds?page=2

In one area the population dropped from 40,000 to 13,000 in three years. Do you think that resulted from great white hunters not shooting them?
