Good Grief: Joe Romm, Van Jones Link “Climate Change” To Martin Luther King, Jr.

The very fact that Romm and Jones are writing this should tell you everything you need to know, namely that “climate change” is a purely far left issue based on politics, not science. Oh, and that they have no shame

Martin Luther King And The Call To Direct Action On Climate

Van Jones and I have an op-ed in “The Miami Herald” and many other McClatchy newspapers. I will have more on the moral dimensions of climate change in later posts.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” wrote Martin Luther King Jr. from a Birmingham jail on April 16, 1963. “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. “The Atlanta-based King was explaining why he was in prison for nonviolent demonstrations so far from home, responding to a critical public statement by eight Southern white religious leaders…

They mention King quite a bit, and tipping points, and climate justice and ignoring science by referring to CO2 as “carbon”. But, then, their target audience is entirely too scientifically illiterate and brainwashed to know or care.

Many have criticized the demonstrations against the Keystone XL pipeline, which would open a major spigot to the Canadian tar sands, as unwarranted and untimely – unwarranted given our broad dependence on fossil fuels and untimely because of our struggling economy. We disagree.

We think there has been far too little direct action, given the staggering scale of the threat….

This is their real point: they’re calling for “direct action”, and when the Typical Leftists become violent, when they destroy property, burn things, etc, the usual from the Left, Romm and Jones can say “well, we were saying peaceful direct action, like when MLK, Jr, was directing it”. It’s “get out of jail free” card for Jones and Romm from what they know will occur. And what they really want to occur.

Is it just me who finds it ironic that this comparison to Martin Luther King Jr and the civil rights movement given the most publicized start of the movement was the Montgomery, Alabama bus boycott – buses that are evil because they use fossil fuels?

Good Grief. Even the last Pope was linking the Vatican to going all solar.

  3. Good point, GC. And that MLK was pushing liberty and freedom while Warmists push more restrictions and government control.
