OWS Plans To Protest Those Evil Art Museums….Wait, What?

I have to ask of Occupy supporters, are these nutjobs representative of the movement?

(Washington Post) Two weeks after a Washington protest group affiliated with Occupy DC shut down the Air and Space Museum, some protesters are heading to New York’s cultural institutions for a demonstration. Occupy Museums will demonstrate at the Museum of Modern Art, the Frick Collection and the New Museum on Thursday evening against the “cultural elitism” that they say the museums perpetuate.

According to Noah Fischer, the organizer of the protest:

The game is up: we see through the pyramid schemes of the temples of cultural elitism controlled by the 1%. No longer will we, the artists of the 99%, allow ourselves to be tricked into accepting a corrupt hierarchical system based on false scarcity and propaganda concerning absurd elevation of one individual genius over another human being for the monetary gain of the elitest of elite.

So, all you Occupiers out there who are artists, you must now…..give your art away for free. Otherwise, you are perpetuating the notion that you are a servant of the rich. So, if you don’t mind, I’d like a nice painting of people surfing at the Manasquan Inlet surf beach. For free.

Do I really have to mention that these people are nuts? And the protest is showing more every day that it is simply an unhinged leftist protest against everything that might possibly annoy them? Except for government. They’re fine with government.

Oh, wait until they mess with the security at the Frick and the MMA. Seriously. Bloomberg knows who his base is. He will shut them down when that happens, believe me.

They’re disgusting, dirty people. I had a dermatologist appt. yesterday and she called to cancel ’cause she’s got two cases of scabies in the office, probably due to perfectly nice people sitting on park benches after these filthy dirty people were sitting there. Gross. Scabies is a dirty person’s infestation. Disgusting.

As we noted before, Obama has made a call for graphic artists to donate their work by creating a graphic that will support the jobs bill he is touting.

(And thanks for the comment in that thread, Teach.)

The pay? A framed poster of the art worked signed by Obama himself.

The artwork is being called for on spec by the Obama campaign – a campaign that took in $70 million in the last quarter alone.

The poster itself will be sold in the “campaign store” to get more income to re-elect Obama.

How many of the people in the OWS movement are heading down to the source of the problem – the guy in the White House?

There is, of course a problem with the premise of the artists and the left. They believe the works created by Michelangelo are of the same value as a crucifix in a jar of urine. To them, it is the “creative process” that demands the same price, and not the end result.

As a wood carver, I can tell you that I look at works from other people and know that my talent is not the same as theirs. Sometimes the works I look at are so much better I am ashamed to be in the same county, much less the same art show. I have no problem with them charging more for their works. At the same time, I sometimes see pieces that are “not so hot.” Whether copies of others works or just not technically good, they don’t match up to my works much less the works of the really good people.

Generally speaking, those people know the value of their work and it is priced below mine (which is priced below the great pieces.)

The market often works itself out that way.

A piece of artwork is worth not one cent more and not one cent less than a person is willing to pay for it.

All artists are not equal and to suggest otherwise, as these morons are doing, lacks a connection to reality.

    (Which is not a surprise.)

    Red Guards?
Do they have any hoity toity art museums in Asheville?

  4. Some excellent points, GT. Of course, to the left, art is anything that the Government should pay them for. They are entitled to government money, no matter how bad, weird, useless, etc, their art is. Kinda reminds me of that “artist” in the movie Beetlejuice, and how horrible that stuff was.

There probably is some sort of hoity toity place in Asheville, being so liberal and having so many visitors.
