Here’s one from a few days ago
A 12-year-old Staten Island boy was marched out of school in handcuffs yesterday and slapped with felony hate-crime charges after allegedly bullying a Muslim classmate. Sources tell the Staten Island Advance that the boy, Osman Daramy, had repeatedly harassed and attacked the girl over the last two months, and yesterday he allegedly shoved her to the ground, punched her, kicked her, and tried to pull off her hijab while asking, “Are you a Muslim?” Now, where on Earth do children learn this kind of bigotry?
The girl sustained bruising and a cut on her lip; her sister tells the Post that the victim called her older brother during the attack, and he called the cops (after resisting an urge to track Daramy down and beat him up). Daramy was later arrested at Dreyfus Intermediate School and taken to a juvenile detention center in the Bronx. His mother tells the Post, “I know my son is a good boy. He’s a kid, he made a mistake. It’s not right for him to bug anybody for their religion.”
Reading the rest of the story and the other links, it appears as if the kid is a straight up bully to everyone, including staff and teachers. But, hey, he annoyed a Muslim, so, he might have to appear in federal court.
I read the story, the kid is a nut and needs to be put away.
I love the way people always say “he made a mistake”. When I misspell a word, which is frequent, that is a mistake. Beating up on a little girl is not a mistake, that is a crime.
I won’t disagree, this kid is out of control, and needs some serious locked up version of time out. Obviously, the parents are abdicating their duties. I just think the “hate crime” thing is idiotic.
When I was a kid an Italian girl up the street picked on me all the time. I was Irish, and she really din’t like Irish folk. Hate crime, or kid being stupid crime?
This boy was out of control, and it sounds as though it wouldn’t (and didn’t) matter what the victim’s faith or culture was… but it sure makes for really good press to go after Peter King’s hearings now…
wait… how is this a hate crime when he was a bully to all kids?!!?!?!?
Would they charge him with a hate crime if he bullied a Mormon? a 7thDay Adventist?
How in the God-Created world is this a hate crime!?!?!
I first thought this was a case over in England…. couldn’t have happened here.
But alas, we are becoming England.
