How could anyone possibly have a problem with falsely handing out sick passes for government workers who have walked off their cushy paying jobs?
Doctors who wrote medical notes over the weekend excusing protesters at the Wisconsin Capitol from work are getting slammed with angry phone calls and profane e-mails from people telling them they deserve to be thrown in jail, one doctor said Sunday.
Well, maybe not jail, but, the appropriate organization should have in inquiry into the ethics of their actions.
One of the doctors was Lou Sanner, 59, who practices family medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Sanner said he gave out hundreds of notes and that many protesters with whom he spoke seemed to be suffering from stress.
“Some people think it’s a nod-and-a-wink thing but it’s not,” he told The Associated Press on Sunday. “One of the biggest stresses in life is the threat of loss of income, loss of job, loss of health insurance. People have actually been getting ill from this, or they can’t sleep.”
Yet, they are so stressed that they have shown up at the capitol building to protest instead of seeing a competent mental heath worker? I suppose it can be stressful to know that public sector workers might lose a bit of their cushy perks which most in the private sector do not get, and, God forbid, actually have to contribute to their own health insurance and pension accounts. How heartless! But, they should be stressed, because the people of Wisconsin are not on the unions side, and, if a deal is not done, a lot of government workers (who are supposed to work for the People) could lose their jobs.
Madison Schools Superintendent Daniel Nerad, who closed his district’s schools from Wednesday through Friday because so many teachers called in sick, said officials were aware of the doctors’ note-signing station.
“We’re reviewing how we go forward in cases where those types of notes are provided,” he said Sunday. “I don’t know yet what the conclusion will be.”
Actions have consequences.
Furthermore, the University of Wisconsin doesn’t condone what happened, and is planning on looking into the matter in terms of any of their doctors signing what are essentially fake doctors notes. Maybe a doctor could help me out, but, handing out fake notes without an actual examination would seem to be unethical and illegal.
