Now Here’s A Ground Zero Monument That Makes Sense

Nice

After nearly nine years, life is returning to ground zero in a tangible way.

Crews Saturday began planting 16 swamp white oaks at the World Trade Center site. They are the first of nearly 400 trees to be planted around the eight-acre memorial to the nearly 2,800 people were killed when terrorists attacked the twin towers on Sept. 11, 2001.

The trees will dot a cobblestone plaza surrounding two huge pools built on the footprints of the destroyed towers.

Joe Daniels, president of the 9/11 Memorial Foundation, was on hand at the site to help with the planting. He said designers of the memorial envisioned a lush and quiet green space that would bring solace to visitors.

As opposed to a Muslim “community center” pushed by a guy who believes in Sharia law, won’t condemn Hamas, and believes America and the Jews were responsible for 9/11, said center basically a victory monument.

I would have preferred two extra large buildings there instead.

Showed those terrorists, you destroy it, we will just rebuild it better.

(course, i might just install several anti-aircraft guns at the top to help protect it as well)

Hmm, I like the sentiment, but you don’t put up lanscaping before you put up the building. It will just get trashed. Does this mean we’ve given up on replacing the buildings?

  3. Gaijin says:

The best way to move on from this tragedy would be rebuilding the towers. Yes, we need to memorialize the fallen but prettying up the scars of the attack says to the terrorists “you got us and we’re not going to stand up for ourselves again, don’t worry. In fact, we’re going to preserve the traces of your destruction so you can come here too and bask in your achievement.”

The trees aren’t “landscaping” per se, Kevin. They are, in fact, an integral part of the design of the area.

The site is large enough to have both this section of the design worked on, as well as building of the structures.

Thanks gitarcarver, but like kevin said, it would have made more sense if they rebuilt the buildings first, then worried about the aesthetics of the area.

It has been 9 years now and we still have nothing… really. It took LESS THAN 2 years to build the Chrysler Building during a Great Depression!

    Our excuse? PC Bullcrap!!

Why is it a surprise to anyone that this lowsy president of ours would support the building of a structure of death. Obama has done absolutely nothing for this country except make it worse. He is just another BS’er politician
