Muslim Students At Trinity U. Want “Year Of Our Lord” Removed From Diplomas

How quick will the ACLU jump in on this one, on the side of those who want the phrase removed?

A group of students at Trinity University is lobbying trustees to drop a reference to “Our Lord” on their diplomas, arguing it does not respect the diversity of religions on campus.

“A diploma is a very personal item, and people want to proudly display it in their offices and homes,” said Sidra Qureshi, president of Trinity Diversity Connection. “By having the phrase ‘In the Year of Our Lord,’ it is directly referencing Jesus Christ, and not everyone believes in Jesus Christ.”

No, not everyone does believe in Jesus Christ. Those people, as Jihad Watch points out, can also choose to attend a different  higher education facility, too! One that is not privately owned and whose “name reflects its Christian origins and the three regional Cumberland Presbyterian governing bodies that supported its institutional organization.”

Of course, in these PC times, Trinity may cave

Qureshi, who is Muslim, has led the charge to tweak the wording, winning support from student government and a campus commencement committee. Trustees are expected to consider the students’ request at a May board meeting.

Ever notice how “diversity” and “tolerance” always seems to work one way?

“The fundamental issue is not so much what is on the diploma. The fundamental question is, ‘Is Trinity a place that is accepting and supportive of all faiths?'” (President Dennis) Ahlburg said.

Earlier in the article, it’s pointed out that Ahlburg defends the wording on the diplomas (it should be pointed out that there are plenty of Christian writings around campus and throughout the school, including a Bible etching on the school seal), yet, that last quote sure makes it appear as if a Class 1 cave-in is about to happen. How about if the Muslims and others who do not like the phrase show their own tolerance and diversity, since they voluntarily enrolled?

Teach how did the Jews feel about this ? How do they like THEIR diploma featuring the Christian God ?

First, it doesn’t appear that they care. There is no indication that they are raising a stink about this.

Secondly, in case you missed it, this is a private institution and if you don’t like what is on the diploma, don’t take the diploma or don’t go there.

We’ll make a trade, lil’ johnny: We will take that phrase off that paper, the day the Pope is allowed to hold a mass and Communion in the inner sanctuary of Mecca.

This is a weird weird thing – the people I know living in Lebanon and other places in the Middle East will tell you that the Koran has a lot of Jesus in it…in fact, they DO believe Jesus is the most revered and holy prophet after Muhammed. This sounds like secular guys who believe the excuse plays better…

  5. Good point, and excellent info, Lynn. These Muslims at Trinity seem to be taking more of a liberal/progressive viewpoint than one of extremist Islam.
