First polar bears were listed as endangered, despite an increase in their numbers, now it gets fun
The state of Alaska will sue to challenge the recent listing of polar bears as a threatened species, the governor announced.
Gov. Sarah Palin and other Alaska elected officials fear a listing will cripple oil and gas development in prime polar bear habitat off the state’s northern and northwestern coasts.
Like how the AP stuck that oil and gas bit in? Cause that is not what Palin said or meant.
Palin argued Wednesday that there is not enough evidence to support a listing. Polar bears are well-managed and their population has dramatically increased over 30 years as a result of conservation, she said.

The [Alaska] Attorney General’s office will draft and file a complaint under the Administrative Procedure Act (APA). The Secretary’s decision to list a currently healthy species is based on not only the uncertain modeling of future climate change, but also the unproven long-term impact of any future climate change on the species. Alaska’s Attorney General believes the decision is so arbitrary it violates the limits of the APA.
“While climate change is a significant issue, the Endangered Species Act is not the right tool to address impacts to a species from climate change,†Attorney General Talis Colberg said.

The announcement drew a strong response from the primary author of the listing petition.
“She’s either grossly misinformed or intentionally misleading, and both are unbecoming,” said Kassie Siegel of the Center for Biological Diversity. “Alaska deserves better.”
Siegel said it was unconscionable for Palin to ignore overwhelming evidence of global warming’s threat to sea ice, the polar bear’s habitat.
“Even the Bush administration can’t deny the reality of global warming,” she said. “The governor is aligning herself and the state of Alaska with the most discredited, fringe, extreme viewpoints by denying this.”
But, remember, this is all science, not any sort of personal issue!
Anyhow, the AP article goes on as Siegel lists all that overwhelming evidence of global……huh? It didn’t? It didn’t list any evidence? Goodness!
Michelle Malkin has more, as well as, in regards to the original suit to get the PB’s designated: As usual with acts of submission, this one didn’t satisfy the demanders. They’ve gone back to court to sue because the listing doesn’t “include steps against global warming.â€
Bob’s Bites is covering the story, too. He’s got a cute polar bear picture, though.
Bloodthirsty Liberal mentions that these ain’t teddy bears
