Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has said he will not renew the licence for the country's second largest TV channel which he says expires in March 2007.
In an address to troops, Mr Chavez said he would not tolerate media outlets working towards a coup against him.
Radio Caracas Television, which is aligned with the opposition, supported a strike against Mr Chavez in 2003.
The move could help silence some of his critics in the media who have been a thorn in his side for several years, he says
Reading the full story, I read a tone from the BBC, a television station itself, that this is A-OK. Notice the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs, which seem to set up a means to label RCT as evil.
The head of the station says that the license doesn't expire next year, so will Chavez just go ahead and shut it down? Time will tell.
Freedom of the Press, and dissent, is a vital part of the American Constitution. The Left has continuously railed against the so-called loss of those freedoms, sans evidence, since the beginning of the Bush presidency. They say everyone should have those freedoms.
