ACLU Challenges Anti Illegal Laws

Really. Does the ACLU even remember that the first word in their acronym is American? (from Yahoo News)

Hispanic activists and the ACLU sued Hazleton on Tuesday over one of the toughest crackdowns on illegal immigrants by a U.S. city.

Hazleton, a city of about 31,000 people 80 miles from Philadelphia, voted last month to fine landlords $1,000 for renting to illegal immigrants, deny business permits to companies that give them jobs, and make English the city's official language.

The lawsuit contends that the Constitution gives the federal government exclusive power to regulate immigration and that the city's ordinance is discriminatory and unworkable.

What is missing here is that this is not about immigration (though I failed to find anything in the Constitution that made this the sole domain of the Federal government), but about conduct that is already against federal and state law. In case the American Civil Liberties Union missed it, it is against a truckload of laws to come to America and enter America illegally. It is against the law to be in America illegally. And it is against American law to hire people in America illegally.

But that matters not to the American Civil Liberties Union. For some unknown reason, they seem to feel that it is their job to protect people who are in America illegally, and to do this, they will take it out on Americans who are doing the right thing. They feel that it is their job to not only butt in to situations that they were not elected to be involved in, but they will sue to push their agenda over those elected to run Hazelton.

Alot of business owners and hispanic activists are upset over what Hazelton has done. Well, in a democatic country (republic, whatever), you handle this in four ways:

  1. Recall the town council, if possible
  2. vote them out of office in the next election
  3. move your business/illegal family to another town
  4. comply and stop being an accessory to a felony

Instead, the ACLU will sue to circumvent the elections the city of Hazelton has taken. They will sue to protect illegal aliens. And they will sue to allow people and companies to be accessories to felony.
