Stop The ACLU Blogburst 4/27/06

A few days ago, I mentioned the ACLU taking on the Chatham County (NC) Commissioners over the use of Jesus’ name at government meetings, in which the ACLU was basically told to go to Hell. Of course, the ACLU probably doesn’t believe in Hell, and, would probably sue if someone in government actually said that to them. It is part of the Christian religion, after all.

Now, the Raleigh City Council is telling the ACLU to piss off, as well:

A Raleigh City Council committee decided Tuesday that it would not amend its prayer policy, as requested earlier this month by the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina.

In a letter dated April 10, the state ACLU complained to Raleigh Assistant Deputy Clerk Ralph Puccini about the use of religious language during City Council meetings.

The ACLU objected to a minister’s opening prayer, in which he said “in Christ’s name we pray,” saying it violated the United States Constitution.

“If official government meetings are opened with prayers that favor one particular sect, then that is violating the establishment clause because that is not neutral,” said Executive Director Jennifer Rudinger.

First, to understand how big this is, Raleigh is a Liberal city in a liberal county, at least according to the election results, which have favored Democrats for quite some time. However, this is still part of the Bible Belt, and no wackadoodle Commies are going to tell us Southerners how to run our business. If they do not like our Freedom of Speech, well, they are welcome to move. Why the hell should we have to change?

Second, the ACLU of NC shows that they do not understand the First Amendment.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Congress refers to the Federal Congress. I really do not care what any courts state. According to all the papers written at the time of the writing of the Bill of Rights, they all point to keeping the Federal Congress, which was supposed to be the MAIN federal governmental body, not the President, nor the Supreme Court, from becoming involved in forcing any specific branch of Christianity down people’s throats, ala the Church of England, or denying any branch from practicing, ala the Pilgrims.

The ACLU is attempting to deny people their Freedom of Religion and Speech, simply because they are offended, as well as busy body azzholes. This is what the ACLU does.

Well, we in the South like to include God, Jesus, and Christianity in our meetings, and the ACLU can just get over it.

Meanwhile, over at Stop The ACLU, Jay pulls out an older, very important post that everyone should read, on pedophelia and the ACLU’s support of it.
