New Test Of Global Warming

I always enjoy when scientific research is unbiased

A spacecraft that will reveal how rapidly Arctic sea ice may be thinning as a result of global warming is set to blast off from northern Russia on Saturday.

The European Space Agency (ESA) satellite CryoSat will provide scientists with the first detailed measurements of the depth of floating sea ice across the Arctic. Comparing monthly measurements will enable them to monitor any deterioration.

"The situation may be much worse than we thought," says Duncan Wingham, principal investigator. "There simply hasn’t been a change like this for the past million years."

Looks to me that there is an agenda. They are not going to determine what the conditions are, to see if the ice is thinning, staying the same, or getting thinker. Just checking to see if it is thinning. Think we will hear any results if it isn’t getting thinner?

The mission is given extra relevance by recent observations showing the annual melt of Arctic ice now occurs earlier than ever and that temperatures in the Arctic have risen 5.4% over the past 50 years. Satellite data released this September by NASA show that an early spring melt first observed in areas north of Alaska and Siberia has now spread to the whole of the Arctic region. And melting began a record 17 days earlier than usual in 2005.

Uh huh. Wait, let’s not forget this story from 2004

"The sun has been at its strongest over the past 60 years and may now be affecting global temperatures," said Sami Solanki, the director of the renowned Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Gottingen, Germany, who led the research.

Right now, we are in a warmer period which followed the Little Ice Age. Many scientist think that one of the causes was reduced solar output from the Sun. And the Little Ice Age was preceded by the Medieval Warm Period. The state of the Earth is cyclical.

Do we need to determine what effect Man may have on the temperature of the Earth? Yes. Using unbiased, truly scientific research. That is not what we are getting.

My disclaimer: It is not that I do not believe in global warming. I used to. It is that, at this time, I see too much evidence to the contrary. So, I am stuck in the middle, and willing to listen to all evidence. What I am not willing to listen to is hysterical, overblown rhetoric and biased research. From either side. I still believe we should reduce CO2 and other air pollutants for a better, cleaner atmosphere, as well as reduce ocean and land pollution. Stop deforestation. Preserve wildlife habitats and the wildlife. And much more.
