Members of the U.S. House of Representatives and representatives from national pro-life groups will be holding a press conference on Capitol Hill at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, calling for passage of the "Unborn Pain Awareness Act," which is set to come before the House of Representatives for a vote this coming week.
BACKGROUND: U.S. Rep. Chris Smith's (R-N.J.) legislation to require that women considering an abortion are informed of the intense pain their baby would feel during an abortion is set to come before the U.S. House of Representatives for a vote by the House this coming week.
"This is common ground legislation that seeks to provide women with all the relevant information on the extent of the pain her unborn child will feel during an abortion and provide her with the option to reduce that suffering. This bill ensures informed consent for women and gives a basic modicum of protection for the unborn victims of abortions," said Smith.
Smith's bill, the "Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act," requires abortion providers to inform women requesting an abortion when their baby is 20 weeks or more past fertilization that there is substantial evidence that babies at this stage of development do feel pain. If a woman still decides to have an abortion, she would then sign a consent form indicating that she has received the requisite information and indicating whether or not she has requested anesthesia for the unborn child.
Expect MAJOR (I hate writing in all caps, but, well deserved) Lefty wonkiness and outrage next week over this. Hasn't hit the radar screens yet, but, since abortion on demand with zero input from anyone who is pro-life is the major lefty belief, could will get nasty.
Funny. They have major issues with putting panties on the heads of terrorists, but, killing an unborn child? Eh, no big deal.
