Good Grief! New Study Says I’m A Democrat!

Why? Because I like Jeep. I have 2006 Jeep Liberty (bought it in 2009 with 9,500 miles on it). Wendy’s is my favorite fast food place (spicy chicken combo!). I do prefer Dunkin Donuts coffee to Starbucks, though. Many of my answers to the other questions might be a bit different than either

(Forbes) Democrats and Republicans disagree on more than just policy issues. Neuromarketing firm Buyology, Inc. released the results of a new study that measured conscious and non-conscious brand preferences for subjects who identified with the two major political parties in the U.S. Even in common consumer categories like cars and sandwiches, they found few areas of agreement between blue and red subjects. While both Democrats and Republicans did like Coca Cola, Visa, Google, Apple, and Olay in their respective product groups, they had distinctly different preferences in these categories:

Democrats Republicans
Most Desired Car Jeep BMW
Most Desired Electronics Sony Sharp
Most Desired Insurance Progressive Allstate
Most Desired TV Channel Animal Planet History Channel
Most Desired Restaurant Wendy’s Subway
Most Desired Sports NFL MLB
Most Desired Coffee Shop Starbucks Dunkin’ Donuts
Most Desired Gaming System Wii XBOX

Interesting. I’m not a big fan of BMW. I usually avoid Subway since their products tend to have an MSG-like product in it, and I’m really allergic to it. Gives me chest wall inflammation and massive allergy attacks. I prefer the NHL at the top. When it comes to baseball, I only watch the Dodgers, but will watch whatever NFL game is on. I use neither of those insurance companies, and couldn’t care less about the gaming system (I would prefer PC). I’d prefer the Science Channel, Smithsonian, or H2 (History Channel 2), though I love both Animal Planet (which is showing too many River Monsters episodes) and the History Channel. I find Sony to be too expensive.

Funny how a big gas guzzler is a favorite of Liberals. I would have though Subaru or Prius. Or Chevy Feugo, er, Volt, but, no one likes those.

Can’t find the full study with all the questions and responses. What are you favorites? Where do you stand on this study?

  1. Jim says:

They labeled it wrong, you are a classic liberal. You think, therefore, you are.

  2. john says:

Prius sales are doing very well. Toyota expects it to be its top selling model.

  3. Gumball_Brains says:

John, that was one of the funniest jokes you’ve given yet. Congrats!!

Teach, are you sure you didn’t mislabel the column headers? Repubs prefer bmw and mlb over jeep and nf? riiiiiggghhhht.

Another PR-based study to try and present repubs as over-rich and out of touch, and democrats are common people.

    rrriiiiigghhht

  4. Try that, Jim.

Nothing wrong with Prius, John I like them. But they are not going to outsell either the Camry or corolla.

I wish I had. Kinda weird study. I’d like to see the raw data and questions.

  5. Hmmm. I drive a 2012 Jeep Wrangler and I’m DEFINITELY not a Democrat. I do prefer History Channel to Animal Planet (but where does “Swamp People” fit into that? I love my “Swamp People.”) MLB all day long. Hate the NFL. Coffee? Home drip brew in vintage, stove top drip pot. Not a gamer. Insurance? State Farm. I do prefer Wendy’s to Subway but Taco Bell is my favorite.

    Does this make me libertarian?

  6. I think it makes it appear as if you are a coyote, ie, someone who smuggles illegals, hence why you need a jeep and love taco bell

Of course, I actually grabbed Taco Bell for lunch myself. Both Wendy’s I pass on way to work are on wrong side of street

  7. Russ says:

Jaguar, Samsung, Geico, Velocity, Quizno’s, MLB, none, Xbox.

    Whatever that makes me.

  8. Gumball_Brains says:

OMG!!! You’re like Teach. You’re part of the EVI’L 1%’ers who refuses to buy crappy cheap environmentally friendly in order to support local unemployed non-workers!

    I’m aghast I tell ya. AGHAST!!!!111!!1!!

  9. Dirk says:

I am smack dab in the middle of red-state flyover country. I couldn’t tell you where the nearest BMW dealer is. Ford F150 would be my guess for most desired vehicle. Yes, even some of my friends who were lifetime Chevy loyalists switched to Ford over the bailout fiasco. As far as sports we gravitate to whatever is in season (no NBA please, we are college basketball people here)Electronics? Tell me what is on sale. It’s all made in some Asian country by near slave labor anyway, what is the difference? And I’ll be damned if I am going to pay someone a few dollars for a cup of coffee when I can make it on my kitchen counter for a few cents.

“classic liberal” with a 2000 Jeep Cherokee with better than a 250,000 miles on it (…and I bet I get at least another 18 months out of it). It’s a Toledo Jeep, and without question the best car I’ve ever owned.

I didn’t see Sokolowski’s, Thai Garden or India Delight under the restaurant choices though. I think that means I have strong Libertarian leanings. I also think that “restaurant” in this survey means “military-industrial-complex-imitation-processed-pasteurized-foodlike-product-distribution-center”. Barf.

…and I bet you can find a local hippy-trippy coffee joint with a better, friendlier cup-o’-joe. Just sayin’…
