This is excellent news
Laken Riley Act passes Senate on bipartisan vote
The Senate passed the Laken Riley Act on Monday, with 12 Democrats joining all Republicans to vote for the amended immigration bill.
The measure, which would mandate the detention of more undocumented immigrants charged with crimes, now goes to the House, which passed a similar but not identical bill earlier this month. The final Senate tally was 64-35.
The House is expected to take up the measure later this week, likely Wednesday or Thursday. It would then land on President Donald Trump’s desk, delivering him an early if modest bipartisan win on his signature campaign issue of illegal immigration.
The Democratic senators who backed it were Catherine Cortez Masto (Nev.), John Fetterman (Pa.), Ruben Gallego (Ariz.), Maggie Hassan (N.H.), Mark Kelly (Ariz.), Jon Ossoff (Ga.), Gary Peters (Mich.), Jacky Rosen (Nev.), Jeanne Shaheen (N.H.), Elissa Slotkin (Mich.), Mark Warner (Va.) and Raphael Warnock (Ga.).
There’s zero chance it doesn’t re-pass the House, so, Trump should be signing it by Saturday at the latest.
Protecting illegal aliens. It's what @thedemocrats do best.

Yeah, the rest of them are not taking this well
(The Hill) The Laken Riley Act is roiling the Senate Democratic Conference, as senators believe their party bungled immigration and border security in 2024 but aren’t happy about the swift passage of a bill they view as terrible policy. Democratic critics of the bill believe the rush to pass it is a political overreaction from Democratic colleagues scrambling to protect themselves on those issues.
Some Democratic senators are venting frustration about Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) giving a green light to politically vulnerable colleagues to vote to advance the bill without getting an ironclad guarantee that Democrats would have more opportunity to amend the legislation.
So most voted because they are vulnerable, not because it’s a good idea to protect American citizens from illegal alien criminals. Though, from what Fetterman has said, he might have truly wanted to vote for the bill.
Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), who blasted the bill as bad policy, said the lack of opportunity to modify the legislation on the floor — aside from three amendments — represents a broader failure of the entire Senate to meaningfully debate immigration policy.
“I think that this bill reflects the way the Senate has broken down in some respects in the fact that we’re not able to have votes on amendments that would have improved the legislation. It’s really problematic,” he said.
It’s bad policy to protect Americans from all the illegals and fake asylum seekers? Only in Liberal World.
Sen. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) said he was concerned with how the bill was handled.
“We should use the committee process where there’s an opportunity to deliberate and discuss,” he said.
They had the opportunity, but, what’s to discuss? It’s a simple bill, and, they had the chance to debate in committee last year when it was passed in the House and sent to the Democrat run Senate. They chose not to. And they will do anything to protect illegal alien criminals.

Hilariously, these same climate wackos had zero problem with Biden (and Obama) ruling with his pen. Well, not really his, but, the people who ran his presidency. Biden signing EO after EO, and getting his agencies to pass this and that rule. Like forcing automakers to make EVs, forcing citizens into them
Trump Invokes Authoritarian Powers on Day One to Gut Environmental Protections
President Trump ordered federal agencies today to begin unlawfully gutting protections for the climate, clean air and water, and public lands. Following through on his threat to act like a dictator “on day one,” Trump also ordered a massive expansion of oil, gas and coal extraction from public lands and waters — actions that could lead to irreversible climate catastrophe if they go unchallenged.
“No one in American history has shown more disdain for the environment than Donald Trump. His reckless contempt for our nation’s natural heritage and people’s health will only get worse, but we’ll fight him at every step,” said Kierán Suckling, executive director at the Center for Biological Diversity. “No matter how extreme he becomes, we’ll confront Trump with optimism and a fierce defense of our beloved wildlife and the planet’s health. His anti-environment agenda is overwhelmingly unpopular and truly a threat to life on earth.”
Trump’s day-one executive orders include:
- A sweeping “national emergency” on energy prices designed to expand onshore and offshore oil drilling and fossil fuel extraction, increase drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and greenlight immediate fracked gas exports.
- Withdrawing from the Paris agreement on climate change.
- Rescinding California’s ability to restrict emissions from cars, light trucks and other polluting fossil-fuel motors, as well as rescinding EPA auto emissions and Department of Transportation fuel economy standards that address the largest sector of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States.
“The United States has some of the strongest environmental laws in the world, and no matter how petulantly Trump behaves, these laws don’t bend before the whims of a wannabe dictator,” said Suckling. “The use of emergency powers doesn’t allow a president to bypass our environmental safeguards just to enrich himself and his cronies. We’ll see Trump in court to challenge each of these horrific, senseless attacks on wildlife, public lands and our health.”
Cry more, cultists. Cry more. Just because your guy did stuff doesn’t mean the next guy is an authoritarian. Biden cancelled tons of Trump’s EO and rules, did that make him an authoritarian? Well, he (well, his people) was an authoritarian lite, but, not for necessarily cancelling EOs. But, you know, in Warmist World reducing the power of the government over American’s lives is authoritarian.

Trump did so many executive orders it’s hard to know where to start. Well, what about this?
Trump grants mass pardons to 1,500 January 6 US Capitol rioters
President Donald Trump on Monday pardoned more than 1,500 people charged in the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, and said he would commute the sentences of six others.
The Justice Department also is expected to move in court to dismiss cases that have not yet gone to trial, several sources told CNN.
More than 730 people have been convicted of misdemeanor offenses in connection with January 6, according to the latest Justice Department estimates. Further, there are about 300 prosecutions still pending in court as of Monday, including many accused of violent felony crimes, such as assaulting police.
Trump has long pledged to pardon at least some of his supporters who stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, disrupting the peaceful transfer of power.
The vast majority really did nothing wrong. They weren’t violent, they wandered through the halls of Congress, and had the doors opened for them by Capitol Police.
About 55% of January 6 prosecutions are misdemeanor cases, with charges like disorderly conduct or trespassing, according to Justice Department data. For those convicted, the vast majority were sentenced to probation or a few months in prison and were already released.
And had their lives destroyed for a minor issue. Hounded, harassed by the feds, locked up pre-trial with no bail. Unlike the way they went after those who firebombed a federal justice center, which was, not much.
Some defendants are elderly people who got caught up in the frenzy. Others went inside the Capitol for a handful of minutes but never attacked anyone or vandalized anything. Most have no criminal record. A large chunk of the people in the mob said they never intended to infiltrate the Capitol, let alone disrupt Congress’ certification of the 2020 election results. Some believe they were waved into the building by police.
Regardless of this, CNN is losing their minds, as are the other Credentialed Media, in a way they failed to after Biden pardoned/commuted 2,500 drug and other offenders, oh, and, hey, how about Leonard Peltier, who murdered two FBI agents.

But, how will he do it?
Trump to withdraw from Paris climate agreement, White House says
President Donald Trump will once again withdraw the United States from the Paris climate deal, the White House said on Monday, removing the world’s biggest historic emitter from global efforts to fight climate change for the second time in a decade.
The decision would place the United States alongside Iran, Libya and Yemen as the only countries in the world outside the 2015 pact, in which governments agreed to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.
The announcement, in a document from the White House, reflects Trump’s skepticism about global warming, which he has called a hoax, and fits in with his broader agenda to unfetter U.S. oil and gas drillers from regulation so they can maximize output.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is confident that U.S. cities, states and businesses “will continue to demonstrate vision and leadership by working for the low-carbon, resilient economic growth that will create quality jobs,” said associate U.N. spokesperson Florencia Soto Nino, in a written statement.
They’re welcome to do such. We The People did not agree as a total country without a US Senate vote
Trump also withdrew the U.S. from the Paris deal during his first term in office, though the process took years and was immediately reversed by the Biden presidency in 2021. The withdrawal this time around is likely to take less time – as little as a year – because Trump will not be bound by the deal’s initial three-year commitment.
I’ll be honest, if this is true, it is disappointing. Trump has no need to follow the rules for pulling out, since Obama’s signature has no force of any sort of law past his own administration. It is entirely voluntary. Just say “we’re done.”
Meanwhile
(Bloomberg) President Donald Trump said he will “declare a national energy emergency,” as he orders steps intended to unleash domestic energy production and undo Biden-era policies designed to fight climate change.
The US boasts “the largest amount of oil and gas of any country on earth — and we are going to use it,” Trump said in his inaugural address Monday. “We will be a rich nation again, and it is that liquid gold under our feet that will help us to do it.”
The declaration is among a host of changes Trump plans to order Monday to reorient US policy away from the fight against global warming — and toward fossil fuel production. That includes an assault on Biden-era regulations that compelled greater sales of electric vehicles Trump has dubbed an “EV mandate.” In his speech, Trump vowed that his actions Monday will end the “green new deal” and the electric-vehicle mandate.
I mean, how else will all those EVs be powered without fossil fuels?

Trump effect in full view
Federal Reserve withdraws from global regulatory climate change group
The U.S. Federal Reserve announced on Friday it had withdrawn from a global body of central banks and regulators devoted to exploring ways to police climate risk in the financial system.
In a statement, the Fed said it was exiting the Network of Central Banks and Supervisors for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) because its increasingly broadened scope had fallen outside the Fed’s statutory mandate.
The central bank joined the group in 2020. The exit comes three days before President-elect Donald Trump, who is critical of efforts by governments to prescribe climate change policies, is set to take office.
The NGFS, formed in 2017, is charged with helping central banks and bank supervisors with integrating risks stemming from climate change into their work steering monetary policy and policing the financial system. A spokesperson for the group did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Well, that’s a real shame. The Fed won’t be basing policy off a scam, and, instead looking at proper financial metrics.

Good. The illegals and fake asylum seekers need to go. It would just be easier for them
Fearing Trump deportations, migrants start leaving US voluntarily
Throughout the 2024 election cycle, President-elect Trump said he would carry out mass deportations once in office.
Some migrants are voluntarily choosing to leave the country ahead of Trump’s inauguration on Monday.
Immigration attorney Rolando Vasquez told NewsNation some of his clients who entered under the Biden administration are now choosing to return home, fearing deportation under the incoming administration.
It’s not just Trump’s deportation plans that have influenced these decisions.
Vazquez says Mexico is now open to accepting non-Mexican deportees. This move would affect Cuban and Venezuelan migrants the most since those countries typically do not accept deportation flights from the U.S. but may take them from Mexico.
“This is causing many migrants to leave on their own, knowing that they’re either going to be deported to their home country or be deported to Mexico,” Vazquez said. “The overwhelming majority of them do not want to be in Mexico.”
If they get deported they cannot re-enter the US legally, and, if they get caught crossing the border or even give themselves up for fake asylum they are supposed to be put right back across the border, at least according to the law. But, I wonder how many of these self-deporters are the murderers, rapists, gang members, and child abusers let in during the Biden years. Will they voluntarily leave? Or will they depend on sanctuary jurisdictions to protect them? They really do not have anything to lose. They can keep on committing crimes and if they get caught they get deported. Once the activists and such no longer have a way to protect them.
Seriously, it’s amazing what can happen when the government pledges to enforce the law.
