68% Disaprove Of How Obama Handles Rising Gas Prices

A good news/bad news poll. The good news

(Reuters) More than two-thirds of Americans disapprove of the way President Barack Obama is handling high gasoline prices, although most do not blame him for them, according to a Reuters/Ipsos online poll released on Tuesday.

Sixty-eight percent disapprove and 24 percent approve of how Obama is responding to price increases that have become one of the biggest issues in the 2012 presidential campaign.

Eighty-nine percent of Republicans said they disapproved, as did 52 percent of Democrats and 73 percent of independents.

That Independents percentage will hurt come election time, if prices stay high.

Bad news

Overall, 36 percent of respondents said “oil companies that want to make too much profit” deserve the most blame for higher energy prices. Twenty-eight percent of Republicans said so, as did 44 percent of Democrats and 32 percent of independents.

Twenty-six percent of all respondents said a range of factors was equally to blame, including oil companies, politicians, foreign countries that dominate oil reserves and environmentalists who want to limit oil exploration.

What this shows is that 36% are idiots, who have bought into the Democrat narrative that oil companies are evil and set the price. On the flip side, only 36% are buying the narrative, and only 32% of Independents.

But, yeah, it is certainly not all Obama’s fault. He does get a part of the blame for his policies, but, the problem is that Obama is handling this poorly, he is not coming out with policies to help alleviate the costs, and, remember, Democrats, including Obama, Blamed Bush for high gas prices, so, they are being hoist on their own petard.

Liberals Already Looking For Excuses If Mandate Goes Down

After a horrendous day for Obamacare’s chief council in front of the Supreme Court, one in which the far left justices had to remind him of his talking points, liberal supporters of this unconstitutional extension of the Central Government’s power are desperately reaching for any rationale to shift blame. Here’s James Carville

“I think this will be the best thing that has ever happened to the Democratic Party,” Carville said Tuesday on CNN’s “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.”

Carville, who gained fame working on Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign, predicted health care costs will only increase in the future, in which case Republicans will be to blame for leading the drive to expel a federal program designed to help Americans cover those costs.

“Then the Republican Party will own the healthcare system for the foreseeable future. And I really believe that. That is not spin,” Carville said.

Except, this will give Republicans the chance to pass common sense law which will actually address the rising cost of health insurance.

But Glenn Thrush at Politico takes the cake

John Roberts is having his Bush v. Gore moment.

If the wily chief justice felt squeamish about leading the Supreme Court into an election-year political maelstrom, that was nowhere on display Tuesday, when the Roberts-led conservative majority signaled its collective skepticism, even hostility, for President Barack Obama’s health care law.

If the Affordable Care Act goes down — especially if it suffers the same schismatic 5-to-4 blow sustained by the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law in the Citizens United case — critics will accuse the Roberts Court of rigging the game and covering their power play with constitutional doublespeak.

Except, people forget, or willfully ignore, that the SCOTUS decision rightly interpreted Florida law that the Gore campaign was attempting to circumvent. Regardless, what we will see from Obamacare supporters is blame and excuses, anything to deflect from the notion that the Mandate was truly unconstitutional, and extremely unpopular. The law itself is unpopular overall, and most people understand that it will not make health insurance cheaper, and it will lead to reduced quality of care. They understand that their companies will dump their insurance offerings. And they do not want the Central Government mandating the purchase of a product simply for being an American.

You Didn’t Walk To Work, So The Climate Of The Planet Might Soon Tip Over

Today’s doom story

(Sustainable Business) Scientists keep beating the drum, hoping the world will wake up to the fact that climate change is a real, non-partisan, non-advanced vs development country issue.

Dubbing the phenomenal recent explosion in human activity, “The Great Acceleration,” leading scientists say time is running out to minimize the risk of setting in motion irreversible and long-term climate change and other dramatic changes to Earth’s life support system.

If nothing is done, the world is on track for the worst predictions with temperatures set to rise by 6 degrees Celsius by 2100.

At the Planet Under Pressure Conference, taking place in London, 2800 scientists warn the earth is dangerously close to an irreversible tipping point.

Certainly, they wouldn’t take unnecessary fossil fueled flights to attend this conference, right? Plenary Speakers and Panelists:

  • Bina Agarwal, Delhi University, India
  • Yvo de Boer, KPMG, The Netherlands
  • Lidia Brito, UNESCO, France
  • Nigel Cameron, Center for Policy on Emerging Technologies, USA
  • Shobhakar Dhakal, Global Carbon Project, Japan
  • Sandra Diaz, Córdoba National University, Argentina
  • Will Steffen, Australian National University, Australia

And many from Brazil, more from the US (including all the way from California), there’s Sweden, Mozambique, Congo, Austria, Jordan, South Africa…and hey, there’s our good buddy Andrew Revkin from the NY Times. All these folks are taking some very long and certainly fossil fueled trips to tell us that CO2 from fossil fuels will make the climate hotcoldwetdry or something

5 Uncomfortable Truths About Liberals

One thing I have been remiss about doing is linking John Hawkins at Right Wing News. RWN was the first blog I read, before I even knew what the heck a blog was. A few years ago, John gave me the priveledge of cross-posting over at RWN (and sometimes I post an article of interest over there that wouldn’t necessarily be of interest here at Pirate’s Cove). Probably because I do post so much over there that I forget to link up good stories from RWN (same with Stop The ACLU). Here’s a really good one from John, from his Townhall article: 5 Uncomfortable Truths About Liberals

  1. Most liberals are hateful people
  2. Liberals do more than any other group to encourage race-based hatred
  3. Most liberals are less moral than other people
  4. Most liberals don’t care if the policies they advocate work or not
  5. Most liberals are extremely intolerant

Make sure to read the entire thing.

Now, there is one more I’d like to add:

Liberals are, simply, hypocrites.

John touches on this a bit in in all five. Liberals are, for the most part, complete hypocrites. Think about what they so often advocate

  • Higher taxes
  • Fair share
  • Globull warming regulations and laws
  • Tolerance
  • Helping the poor
  • Reducing the use of fossil fuels
  • Guns are bad

The list can go on and on, but, how does it break down? It is always Someone Else who should be made to suffer for these notions. Higher taxes? “That Group should be nailed, not me.” Same with paying your fair share. And for “climate change.” They rarely change their own behavior: that guy must be made to change his. Tolerance? Oh, brother, they have little tolerance for anyone else’s opinion. Helping the poor? Well, the government will do it. Liberals are the least charitable, as study after study shows. Fossil fuels? Well, they simply can’t afford to give up their big vehicle, what with the kids and work and such. But, YOU should buy a Volt. Do your part, bub! Guns? Guns are bad for everyone else. But, they have no problem with one for themselves.

Then there are others, such as military action: most of them were cool with Obama’s war of choice in Libya. Iraq disappeared from the radar the day Obama took office. They didn’t freak out over the expansion of war in Afghanistan. Or in Northeast Africa. Most of them support abortion, but, not for their kid. Same with easy access to underage sex. They’d go ballistic if their child was taken across state lines by someone else for an abortion. They’d want to be notified if their underage child was going to have an abortion. But, they want your child to be able to do all those without a parent being involved.

Death penalty? Well, only for certain people. Support the police? Selectively, especially if they can support cop killers like Mumia.

All in all, so many of the penalties, restrictions, etc. they push should apply to Someone Else, while they get the benefits. I cover this on an almost daily basis regarding anthropogenic global warming. It applies to virtually everything Liberal.

Philly Mayor Nutter Calls Martin Killing An “Assassination”

There are certainly many folks who bring unhelpful, inflammatory, and idiotic statements to any discussion of race, such as Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Chris Matthews, Hollywood nitwits who never even graduated high school, Spike Lee, The Black Panthers, Keith Olbermann, but, really, who better to “act stupidly” than Mayor Michael Nutter?

With the one-month anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s death only a day away, Mayor Michael Nutter expressed strong views regarding the incident that has garnered national attention.

Nutter referred to the shooting of the 17-year-old teen as an “assassination” during an appearance Sunday on MSNBC:

I’ve called this nothing short of an assassination. There was no reason for that individual, Zimmerman, to do what he did. Trayvon was not doing anything and was not a threat, based on all the information and evidence and 911 tapes that have been released. It was incomprehensible to me why an individual would do something like this unless he had something else either in his heart or on his mind.

Hey, he’s all yours, Philly residents. Of course, to be fair, Nutter did call out Black Philly youths running riot, and was branded an Uncle Tom.

Meanwhile, Soros monkeys Think Progress brand any facts about Trayvon as a “smear campaign.” Just One Minute wonders about the geography of the case. Salon says the memory of Trayvon is being dishonored. And a former head of the NAACP says that Sharpton and Jackson are “exploiting Martin“.

Know what we really need? For everyone to take a deep breath, cool the rhetoric, and let the facts of the story come out.

SCOTUS To Hear Core Arguments On Mandate Today

Monday was the preliminarily remarks, attempting to set certain boundaries and assess a few basic questions. Politico provides 5 takeaways, which include

The feds’ taxing power argument may be D.O.A.

The justices don’t seem willing to let the Obama administration have it both ways on the tax argument — a point that one of the conservative justices jumped on.

Ruth Bader Ginsberg wasn’t buying what the defenders were selling, either. So, Obama’s politicized DOJ lawyers will have to argue that the Mandate is a penalty. Also argued was the law which states that there can be no judicial review until someone is actually forced to pay a tax, which would put off any outcome till 2015. Since the tax argument looks to be going down in flames, expect the “wait till 2015” notion to die on the vine, too.

Today they hear the actual merits of the Mandate arguments

(NY Times) The Supreme Court on Tuesday hears arguments on the central question in the constitutional challenges to President Obama’s health care overhaul law. How it answers the question depends in large part on how the justices decide to frame the core issue.

The law’s challengers — 26 states led by Florida, the National Federation of Independent Business and several individuals — present the central question as one of individual liberty. May the federal government, they ask, compel individuals not engaged in commerce to buy a product, here health insurance, from private companies?

The Obama administration, by contrast, urges the court to answer a different question. May Congress decide, in fashioning a comprehensive response to a national crisis in the health care market, to regulate how people pay for the health care they will almost inevitably need?

So, it is now a “national crisis?” What the Obama admin is arguing is for complete control of citizen’s lives at will. Liberal supporters should remember that this will affect you, too. I know you all think that these types of intrusive laws should apply to “That Person” but not you, much like with higher taxes and globull warming measures, but, yes, they will smack you upside the head, too.

The decision under review, from the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, in Atlanta, said the health care law overstepped the limits imposed by the commerce clause by regulating inactivity and forcing people into the marketplace.

I’m wondering if the notion that the insurance contracts will be virtually unenforceable will be discussed? Contracts signed under duress, that are not signed voluntarily, are typically deemed invalid. Furthermore, this violates the contract portion of Article I, Section 10, clause 1.

Uninsured Americans each year use $43 billion of health care they cannot pay for, effectively transferring those costs to other American families to the tune of about $1,000 per year, Solicitor General Donald B. Verrilli said.

So, under Obamacare, the cost will be shifted to Other People. But, the cost will still be there.

In response, Paul D. Clement, representing 26 states challenging the law, said this conception of federal power amounts to “a revolution in the relationship between the central government and the governed.”

“If this is to remain a system of limited and enumerated federal powers that respects individual liberty, accountability and the residual dignity and sovereignty of the states, the individual mandate cannot stand.”

Those who support the Mandate do not want any of those, at least for Other People. They’ll also be the first ones to complain when it applies to themselves. And probably Blame Bush or some other Republican. They also refuse to take personal responsibility for their own lives, and want Someone Else to pay for their lives. Consider: in France, people pay approximately 19% directly out of their paychecks for their health care system that is swimming in red ink. Their actual care is poor. Rationing is rampant. They wait in virtual, and real, long lines for service. This is where Obamacare is taking the US.

EPA To Impose Limits On Trace Gas Necessary For Life For Coal Plants

Remember this?

“Under my plan, the “Cap and Trade System” electricity rates would necessarily sky rocket”

Well, since he cannot get that to happen through legislation, even during the time Democrats fully controlled the Senate and House, (NMP) Obama looks to have the EPA institute regulations which will lead to higher energy costs and less available energy

(Washington Post) The Environmental Protection Agency will issue the first limits on greenhouse gas emissions from new power plants as early as Tuesday, according to several people briefed on the proposal. The move could end the construction of conventional coal-fired facilities in the United States.

The proposed rule — years in the making and approved by the White House after months of review — will require any new power plant to emit no more than 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide per megawatt of electricity produced. The average U.S. natural gas plant, which emits 800 to 850 pounds of CO2 per megawatt, meets that standard; coal plants emit an average of 1,768 pounds of carbon dioxide per megawatt.

As I’ve stated many times, I’m not a fan of coal. But, until the use of coal can be replaced (42% of electricity comes from coal) in a cost effective and usable manner, this is a singularly piss poor idea. Energy prices are already rising to uncomfortable rates, and this will not help

Industry officials and environmentalists said in interviews that the rule, which comes on the heels of tough new requirements that the Obama administration imposed on mercury emissions and cross-state pollution from utilities within the past year, dooms any proposal to build a coal-fired plant that does not have costly carbon controls.

“This standard effectively bans new coal plants,” said Joseph Stanko, who heads government relations at the law firm Hunton and Williams and represents several utility companies. “So I don’t see how that is an ‘all of the above’ energy policy.”

One caveat is that existing plants and those that have permits and begin construction within a year are exempted. But, because of regulations already passed, around 300 coal fired plants are going to close. Fortunately, we’ll have plenty of solar panels to replace the megawatts lost from federally subsidized companies such as Solyndra and First Solar…..oh.

Reason 835,345 why Obama must be defeated in November.

You Charged Your iPad, So Vampires Might Invade Texas

Vampire bats, that is

(The Daily Texan) With the emergence of warm spring weather comes the return of the Mexican Freetail bats under Congress Bridge and the remote possibility that a feared and foreign species of bat could make its way into Texas.

The increase in global climate temperatures has raised concerns about the vampire bat species travelling from Mexico and South and Central America into the southern and central regions of Texas. Carin Peterson, training and outreach coordinator of the Office of Environmental Health and Safety, said even if vampire bats are not making their appearance, Austin’s surrounding caves and popular bat attraction, Congress Avenue Bridge, already have their annual bat species.

Everybody panic! Oh, wait

The possibility of these bloodsucking bats travelling into Austin and its surrounding areas, however, is not likely for many decades, said Mylea Bayless, conservation programs manager for Bats Conservation International in Austin.

Bayless said if the climate change models predict bats coming into Central Texas, it’s not likely these bats will set up shop in the city.

So, decades in the future, when no one will remember this carnival palm reader story, based on computer models, rather than real world data.

Anyhow, how, exactly, do they think life spreads around the world? It sounds more like Warmists believe in some sort of creation story, where life just sprang up to fill certain niches in certain areas, and that should never, ever change. Interestingly, the hairy legged vampire bat was first seen in Texas in……1967. During a cool period.
