But unlike Obama’s handlers who I expect will march people on to stage telling stories about how Obama saved them because of this or that government program, these people had been actually touched by Romney personally. This is real human interaction, not the phony interaction of “caring” President through the medium of government bureaucrats.

Romney Shames Obama Into Going To Louisiana

As the Lonely Conservative points out, while Obama is in Texas for yet more fundraising and speechifying, Romney is headed to Louisiana to show his support for all those affected. Then we get this

(UK Dailymail) President Barack Obama was today forced to announce he will fly to storm-hit Louisiana on Monday – hours after Mitt Romney beat him to the punch by deciding to head there this afternoon.

After it emerged that Obama was still taking time to fit in a campaign stop in Cleveland, Ohio before checking out how clean-up operations are proceeding in the Bayou state, the Obama campaign abruptly cancelled that event.

‘In light of the President’s travel to Louisiana to meet with local officials and view ongoing response and recovery efforts to Hurricane Isaac, President Obama will no longer travel to Cleveland, Ohio on Monday, September 3,’ the campaign said in a terse statement.

Romney had changed his schedule to head to an affected town outside New Orleans while Obama, who has yet to visit the Tropical Storm Isaac zone, headed off to Texas to campaign.

So, almost a week after the storm hit he’s finally going to show up. Why do we have to learn about these things from foreign media sources? But, Champ is only going to cancel one campaign even Monday: he has another scheduled in Toledo. You’ve heard of seagull missions, right? That’s where someone flies in, makes a lot of noise, craps all over everything, then flies off. Well, this is an Obama mission, where he’ll fly in, make a lot of noise, get a lot of pictures taken of him looking like he is Doing Something, then fly off after a brief visit.

He knows he has your votes, New Orleans, so, he really doesn’t need to show you he cares anymore.

Warmists Livid Over Romney “Sea Rise” Line

I purposefully ignored comment on Romney’s line about sea rise in my earlier post on Mitt’s speech, though I did mention it

President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans and heal the planet. MY promise…is to help you and your family.

Warmists were rather annoyed by that line. Over at the Democratic Underground, one DUmmy headlines his article on a few people dying due to Isaac (people never were killed from tropic systems before 1980)

Foreign Policy calls it “the most controversial line” in Romney’s speech

But the most controversial foreign-policy line in Romney’s speech may very well have been when he briefly alluded to climate change. “President Obama promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans,” he noted, pausing skeptically as the crowd jeered. “And to heal the planet. My promise is to help you and your family.” The remark elicited an extended standing ovation.

Critics swiftly derided the comment. “That climate change laugh line is going to be in every documentary from the latter half of the 21st century,” Matt Novak wrote on Twitter. New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof tweeted that Romney’s “dismissiveness was appalling.”

It’s not entirely clear, however, whether Romney was mocking global warming, Obama’s lofty rhetoric and misguided priorities, or both.

No, he was pretty much mocking Obama’s lofty rhetoric and misguided priories. One of the commenters at the story whines about Mitt being bought and paid by Big Oil and coal. Interestingly, Obama has received $36k from Exxon Mobil (Mitt $68k) and $23k from BP (Mitt $5k). Obama received quite a bit more than John McCain from BP during the 2008 cycle. He gets money from coal companies too. Or, did, till he decided to bankrupt them.

Joe Romm and Talking Points Memo both have hissy fits over the line. Philip Bump at Grist is pretty annoyed at the line, but does kinda get it

But that’s not actually what Romney was arguing. He was arguing that Obama is a weirdo who cares more about dolphins than Americans. That Romney will be there for the kids after school with a Wonder bread sandwich while Obama is nursing a spotted owl back to health with his halo.

Or not. Though, taking care of Americans and kids should be a priority. There are also a few fun tweets

Because a city that is slowly subsiding and has much at or below sea level never floods. Of course, Isaac is now due to “climate change.” I wonder if all this Warmists would be willing to give up all their fossil fueled travel.

Chris Matthews had a typical meltdown over the comment, as well as other parts of Romney’s acceptance speech.

Anti-Obama Signs Freaking Some People Out

Interesting happenings up in Massachusetts (originally from Patriot Ledger)

(Mediaite) A few homemade billboard signs in Hanson, Mass., have generated considerable controversy for their inflammatory anti-Obama messages.

Sitting on the property of motorcycle accessories distributor Sullivans Inc., one large sign shows President Barack Obama with a caption that reads: “Somewhere in Kenya, a village is missing its idiot.”

“Obama One Big Ass Mistake America, Vote Mitt Romney for 2012!” it reads below the main headline. The communist symbolic images of the hammer and sickle are on the president’s shirt collar.

Several feet away, another sign shows a pouting young girl giving the middle-finger to the president. “Thanks, Obama,” begins the caption in bold red letters, and then continues in child-like penmanship: “You’ve spent my lunch money, my allowance, my inheritance, 35 years of future paychecks and my retirement. You jerk.”

Personally, I think the billboards are a bit over the top. The first one would have worked better if it had said Illinois instead of Kenya (don’t forget, Obama claimed he was from Kenya in a biography). The one with the little girl could have done without the middle finger, and possibly the “you jerk.” Though, Lefties have no room to complain considering the way they treated George W. Bush. And other Republicans.

Others say the signs go too far. “That type of statement is real real redneck,” one resident said. “It’s regressive and not progressive.”

Oh, good, answering with an inappropriate slur. And, what’s “progressive” done to this country? Pure misery. Over to the Patriot Ledger

Sullivan’s attorney, Roger S. Davis of Quincy, cited free speech when asked about the signs Wednesday.

“First amendment to the U.S. Constitution. It’s called freedom of speech,” Davis said.

Robert Sullivan is the business owner who put the signs up. The city is attempting to get him to take them down, saying that he didn’t have the proper permits (to put them up on his own property, no less) and that they create a driving hazard. Many people think the signs are funny, some don’t. And, of course

Brown, who saw the signs while riding his bike through Hanson on Sunday, said he thinks the sign calling Obama an “idiot” from a Kenyan village is racist.

Or, it could be that Obama is an idiot as a president, and listed himself as being from Kenya. Bummer.

On Mitt Romney’s Acceptance Speech….

It’ll be interesting to see what the viewership numbers are for Romney’s speech. Many are describing the speech as “workman-like.” I can agree with that. Workman-like is good. Workman-like is how my NY Giants have won the Superbowl twice in 5 years. Workman-like is how my NJ Devils have won 3 Stanley Cups, played in 5, missed the Playoffs just twice, and have one of the best records in hockey since 1990. This country doesn’t need flash, pomp and circumstance, nor a rock star as president: we need competence and hard work

(CNN) Mitt Romney told the Republican National Convention on Thursday that he accepts the nomination as the party’s presidential candidate in November.

Mitt Romney said he wished President Barack Obama had succeeded, “but his promises gave way to disappointment and division.”

“This isn’t something we have to accept,” Romney told the Republican National Convention, adding that “now is the moment when we can stand up and say, ‘I’m an American. I make my destiny. And we deserve better!’ “

Obviously, saying “I’m an American” is probably dog whistle language. Can anyone truthfully imagine the crowd at the DNC spontaneously breaking into chants of “USA USA USA” multiple times? Me neither.

He went on to ask Americans if they still felt the excitement from when they voted for Barack Obama four years ago, saying “there’s something wrong with the kind of job he’s done as president when the best feeling you had was the day you voted for him.”

“The time has come for us to put the disappointments of the last four years behind us” by electing him president, he said, adding that “many Americans have given up on this president but they haven’t ever thought about giving up – not on themselves, not on each other and not on America.”

CNN also brought out 5 things we learned. First is that Mitt can show emotion

From an emotional video to a speech with more insight on his family, his faith and his career, Romney used the most important address of his life (yes, way overused, but true) to open up to Americans voters.

Many called the earlier parts of the speech wooden, stiff, or disjointed, but it was a man who is rather reticent finally opening up his emotions on family, love, and church. Many lines brought tears to people’s eyes, especially when he was talking about his wife Ann and raising his 5 boys.

“Self-revelation and introspection are still not his strong suits,” said CNN Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley, anchor of “State of the Union.” “He had some good lines, some nods to his religion, but if you want a public emoter, Mitt Romney will never be your guy.”

Do we want an emoter? Is that what this country really needs? Or do we need someone who is going to get America working again? I have another description for Romney’s speech: “CEO”. Romney was like the person coming in to your company, replacing the person who ran it into the ground, and calmly and cooly explained just how he/she would get it back to prominence. I almost expected him to whip out a clicker, point it at the screen, and go through a PowerPoint action plan which would show what needs to be done, who is responsible, and what the due date is.

We don’t need flash. We don’t need ambiance. We don’t need parties. We don’t need “likeability”. We need someone who will roll his sleeves up and get to work. And who will follow the tried and true “inspect what you expect.” Obama simply says “get it done” then hits the golf course, campaign trail, or party. Can anyone imagine Romney doing that? Can you imagine him not meeting with his economic council for the better part of 9 months? I can’t.

Consider his final line

If I am elected President of these United States, I will work with all my energy and soul to restore that America, to lift our eyes to a better future. That future is our destiny. That future is out there. It is waiting for us. Our children deserve it, our nation depends upon it, the peace and freedom of the world require it. And with your help we will deliver it. Let us begin that future together tonight.

Raaaaacism Today: “Chicago” Is Now Part Of The Dog Whistle Lexicon

They really just can’t help themselves. I understand there’s a medicine for this

(Newsbusters) Chris Matthews was on Hardball tonight covering the Republican National Convention with guests Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post and John Heilemann of New York Magazine.  In what is seemingly the natural progression of things these days with Matthews, the subject of the ‘otherization’ of the President was being discussed.  Because, if you weren’t aware already, Barack Obama is black, and any time a Republican chooses to discuss the failure that is his administration, the media will be there to quickly remind you that they only feel that way because of his skin color.

But tonight’s episode of race-baiting with Chris Matthews was a bit odd in that the panelists somehow came to the conclusion that reminding people of the President’s roots in Chicago politics is racist.  In fact, simply saying Chicago is racist.  (Video below). (snip)

Matthews: “They keep saying Chicago by the way, have you noticed?  They keep saying Chicago.  That’s another thing that sends that message – this guy’s helping the poor people in the bad neighborhoods, screwing us in the ‘burbs.”

Hielemann: “There’s a lot of black people in Chicago.”

So, there you go, any mention of “Chicago” means you’re a raaaaacist. Perhaps it would be easier if Chris Matthews and the rest of the unhinged left could tell us exactly what words and phrases we are allowed to say.

And then you have National Journal’s Ron Fournier on how Mitt is supposedly playing the race card, which has so much pure liberal insanity that I can’t decide where to begin, so read the whole thing, but, understand that in Liberal World

Working-class whites, in other words, are already more prosperous and secure than working-class minorities, but they’re less optimistic because they don’t believe they’re climbing anymore. They’re simply trying to hold on to what they’ve got, and see others grabbing at it.

When you think about it, do you really give a shit about minorities rising up? Does it dismay you? Well, it does if you are a rich white liberal, and want to make sure that Blacks and minorities are beholden to the Democrat party. Meanwhile, on our side, when you see a Black person moving up, you don’t think anything about that person’s race, you just think “good for you! Succeed! That’s the American way.”

Moron Wonders Why GOP Still Ignores Climate Change

Well, first, if you’re referring to it using a political phrase, climate change, rather than a scientific one, anthropogenic global warming, yeah, we ignore it. Second, when you start blaming snow storms on the release of greenhouse gases, well, then you truly are a brainwashed moron. Witness Patrick Doyle at Boston Magazine

Why Does the GOP Still Ignore Climate Change?

With Hurricane Isaac hammering Louisiana with 80 mile-per-hour winds, you would think the Republican Party might pause to consider: “Hey, what’s with all this crazy weather?” New Orleans, after all, is just a short trip around the Gulf of Mexico from Tampa, where the GOP is holding their Republican National Convention. And it’s clear they’re aware that Isaac actually exists, since they shortened the convention from four days to three—not necessarily because Tampa was going to get hit, but just to avoid the “optics” of a big Republican party occurring while New Orleans floods. After all, George W. Bush didn’t avail himself too well during Katrina.

Apparently, there never were hurricanes before 1980. Here’s the kicker

But instead of acknowledging the fact that climate change exists and is responsible for the increasing weather extremes—more hurricanes, more snowstorms, more tornadoes, more scorching-drought-filled summers—the Republicans continue to not just ignore climate change, but mock President Obama for being concerned about it. The only mention of climate change in the entire 2012 Republican Platform isn’t in the environmental/energy section, but in a critique of Obama’s national security strategy:

In fact, hurricanes are down. It’s been over 2,500 days since a major hurricane hit the US. Isaac is the first hurricane (barely) to hit the US since September 13, 2008. Overall, hurricane numbers are down. Tornadoes are down. While there is drought in the US, many parts of the world are wet. What these bat guano insane Warmists position as “extreme weather” is simply weather, which has always happened, and always will.

And, seriously, snow storms?

Paul Ryan Electrifies RNC

There were many great speakers at the RNC Wednesday, among them Condi Rice and Tim Pawlenty (who should have shown that same passion before he ended up dropping out of the primaries), but the star of the night was, of course, Paul Ryan

(Fox News) Paul Ryan rallied the Republican convention audience Wednesday night as he formally accepted his party’s nomination for vice president and made an urgent plea for the country to get to work turning around its economy and finances.

“We don’t have much time,” Ryan said, but claimed: “We can do this.”

Teeing up the stage for Mitt Romney’s nomination speech Thursday night, Ryan repeatedly accused Democrats of falling down on the job. The acerbic speech accused the president of leaving his legions of voters with little more than a record of squandered opportunities and broken promises as they stare at “fading Obama posters” and look for work.

“It all started off with stirring speeches, Greek columns, the thrill of something new,” Ryan said. “Now all that’s left is a presidency adrift, surviving on slogans that already seem tired, grasping at a moment that has already passed, like a ship trying to sail on yesterday’s wind.”

From start to finish, the speech was an unceasing assault on Obama’s record. By the end, he drew thunderous cheers and applause from the convention crowd. And as he has in the past, Ryan tried to draw a sharp contrast throughout.

Many have complained and/or noticed that attacks on Obama’s policies have been mostly missing during the first day. Paul Ryan didn’t hold back, highlighting how much Obama has failed, and contrasting what he and Mitt Romney intend to do if elected to get this country back on the path to prosperity.

Of course, the Typical Useless Leftist Idiots were out immediately “fact checking” Ryan’s speech, highlighting his “lies“, calling it the “most dishonest speech ever.” The Washington Post called the speech “misleading“. I’m sure we’ll get the same type of checking when Joe Biden and Obama speak in Charlotte, right? Right? Anyhow, Ed Morrissey fact checks the fact checkers.

It all comes down to vision: do you want a vision of massive central government planning and control, with obscene debt and deficits, with class and race warfare pushed constantly, business denigrated, and America reduced to just another nation? High unemployment, people dropping out of the jobs market in despair, beholden to the central government for their very subsistence? Or, do you want an America that can get it done, that looks to increase the size of the workforce, to see people make it on their own, to limit federal control over our personal lives, which is the top country in the world, one with a big GDP, one that succeeds?

Tonight it is Mitt’s turn. Don’t expect a lot of talk about himself, Mitt offers a sharp contrast to the Narcissist In Chief. Expect a lot of the vision of how Mitt sees American exceptionalism, and where he wants to take the country. How he wants to expand the private sector, and put the power back into the hands of the people. I don’t expect many attacks on Obama, I expect a forward looking speech which will also explain just why Mitt is the person for the job.

Oh, and one of his best parts was, as Ace points out, a shout out to Obama’s “Life Of Julia”

College graduates should not have to live out their 20s in their childhood bedrooms, staring up at fading Obama posters and wondering when they can move out and get going with life. Everyone who feels stuck in the Obama economy is right to focus on the here and now. And I hope you understand this too, if you’re feeling left out or passed by: You have not failed, your leaders have failed you. None of us have to settle for the best this administration offers – a dull, adventureless journey from one entitlement to the next, a government-planned life, a country where everything is free but us. Listen to the way we’re spoken to already, as if everyone is stuck in some class or station in life, victims of circumstances beyond our control, with government there to help us cope with our fate. It’s the exact opposite of everything I learned growing up in Wisconsin, or at college in Ohio. When I was waiting tables, washing dishes, or mowing lawns for money, I never thought of myself as stuck in some station in life. I was on my own path, my own journey, an American journey where I could think for myself, decide for myself, define happiness for myself. That’s what we do in this country. That’s the American Dream. That’s freedom, and I’ll take it any day over the supervision and sanctimony of the central planners.

Again, it’s a vast difference in vision: Obama’s stagnation and government dependence, or having a chance to do it on your own. Freedom.
