Patriot Pinup

Happy Sunday! Another gorgeous, albeit white in the Northeast, day in America. Not sure who did this pinup, which I added to, but, this is something people up north could be doing, though on heat created snow instead of non-frozen water (if heat creates snow, does that mean cold creates non-frozen water?)

What is happening in Ye Olde Blogosphere? The Fine 15

While we are on pinups, since it is that time of year, have you gotten your “Pinups for Vets” calendar yet? And don’t forget to check outwhat I declare to be our War on Women Rule 5 and linky luv posts

Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.

The posts do take a long time, so, if you want to send me your links for Rule 5 babeage or links, use ye olde email in the header bar (remove the NOSPAM part). Preferably, create the html link so I can copy and paste how you want it to read.

Rand Paul On Illegals: Trust But Verify

Senator Rand Paul has written an editorial piece for the Washington Times which makes a few good points regarding any sort of illegal immigration legislation

I am in favor of immigration reform. I am also wary of reforms granted now for a promise of border security later. In 1986, Ronald Reagan signed a deal that made just such a promise, yet we are still waiting for the border security that never came. Conservatives are also still waiting for the promised three dollars in spending cuts for every dollar in tax hikes. Fool me once … So, it is understandable conservatives should insist that any immigration reform incorporate the principle of trust but verify.

In that vein, I approach these efforts in good faith. I will advance both immigration reform and verifiable border security. Under my plan for comprehensive reform the US would begin with prioritizing Visas for immigrants with advanced degrees, the so-called STEM Visas and an immediate expansion of the work Visa program. These reforms would happen immediately.

Border Security, including drones, satellite, and physical barriers, vigilant deportation of criminals and increased patrols would begin immediately and be assessed at the end of one year by an investigator general from the General Accountability Office. Most importantly, and in contrast with any other plan out there, my plan will insist that report be presented to Congress for a vote. If, and only if Congress agreed that border security was progressing, then more reforms would ensue. If we can’t secure our border, and if we cannot prove we can modernize our system of issuing and tracking visas, we cannot take on the task of adding more people to our system.

The problem here is that he’s thinking that Democrats, and some squishy Republicans, would use common sense to determine whether or not that border security was “progressing” (and what, exactly, would the standards be?) , when, in fact, those same legislators would immediately determine that the border was secure, so they’d start “normalizing” the status of illegals. What if the Democrats control the House and the Senate? There’s a majority vote for legalization, which, under Rand’s plan would be up to 2 million a year. He can discuss “trust and verify” all he wants, but that won’t happen as long as Democrats are hell bent on amnesty.

Where he runs off the rails is wanting to give up to 11 million illegals a de facto amnesty, which worked horribly when tried under Reagan

Currently, undocumented immigrants have a pathway to citizenship. They can leave the United States and enter legally in about ten years. They just value staying in America, even with the pitfalls of being undocumented, more than returning to Mexico or Central America for ten years.

To those who complain that if anyone is allowed to stay without returning to Mexico that it amounts to amnesty, I say: What we have now is de facto amnesty. No undocumented immigrants are being sent home and no one is seriously advocating rounding up and sending home 11 million people. Immigration reform begins the process of bringing these folks out of the shadows and making American taxpayers out of them.

He ends by calling “immigration reform” the “right thing to do.” Many of these illegals may value staying in America, but so many do not value being American. And Rand forgets that approximately one-third of illegals are those who over-stayed their visas. Rand is apparently thinking that the GOP will pick up a whole bunch of new voters, which won’t happen.

You want a plan? Here’s my plan

  1. More border security, particularly using armed agents, rather than using drones and fences.
  2. Use convicts to drive thin metal poles into the ground throughout the border with Mexico in those areas where underground tunnels could be dug
  3. Increase the fines and penalties on companies who hire illegals to a point where it is extremely risky, and costly, to those individuals and companies that employ them (there would be no legal ramifications for those who have done due diligence to determine legality)
  4. Massively increase the temporary visa system for temporary workers, said visas to be for no more than a year. Hiring companies would sponsor those visas for the workers, and be responsible for providing health insurance for the workers. These same workers would “lojacked” with a subcutaneous tracking chip to ensure that they leave.
  5. For those who are already here, if they want to be a U.S. citizen they have to prove it before being put on a pathway to citizenship. They would have to speak and write at least high school level English (adults would also have to demonstrate that their kids can read and write English at the appropriate grade level). They would have to pass a 9th grade test on American history and civics. They would not be allowed to be on any governmental programs like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, etc.
  6. They can’t have a criminal record.
  7. The minute the plan is initiated, any illegal that is caught will be deported within one week. If they have a family, they can bring them. No long hearings. No whining about the family and kids. No fluffy bunny hand-wringing. Caught, gone. That’s it.

There are certainly more ideas that dive down into the weeds, such as ways to deal with illegals in jails for felonies and sanctuary cities, but, really, this whole “it’s the right thing to do” argument is silly. The illegals did not do the right thing. Furthermore, so many like being here, but do not want to be Americans. Many are calling for a return of the Southwest US to Mexico. Like liberals, they like the benefits of America, just not America.

Schoolkids Won’t Know What Open Liquor Stores Look Like

Won’t someone please think of the children?

Gov. Maggie Hassan is leaving it up to New Hampshire agencies whether they should close early due to the storm.

But one thing is certain: The state-run liquor stores are shutting down at 6 p.m. Friday to encourage people to get off the roads by 7 p.m. – the time when the storm is supposed to intensify in New Hampshire.

It’s apocalyptic!

Leading Warmists: All Weather Events Can Be Blamed On Man-Induced Climate Change

Here we go, two of the leading climate astrologers in the world, Joe Romm and Kevin Trenberth opine

(Climate Progress) An epic blizzard is bearing down on New England — fed in part by relatively warm coastal waters.

I asked Dr. Kevin Trenberth, former head of the Climate Analysis Section at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, to comment on the role climate change has on this storm. He explained:

He explained that it’s the fault of you, dear reader, for failing to sell your fossil fueled vehicle and purchase a bicycle.

Like a baseball player on steroids, our climate system is breaking records at an unnatural pace. And like a baseball player on steroids, it’s the wrong question to ask whether a given home run is “caused” by steroids. As Trenberth wrote in his must-read analaysis, “How To Relate Climate Extremes to Climate Change,” the “answer to the oft-asked question of whether an event is caused by climate change is that it is the wrong question. All weather events are affected by climate change because the environment in which they occur is warmer and moister than it used to be.”

So hot, cold, wet, dry, windy, not windy, snowy, not snowy, icy, sleet, hurricanes, no hurricanes, you name it, Mankind is responsible. Interestingly, Joe Romm goes on to whine about lots of precipitation events, but then Warmists like Joe also blame drought on “climate change.” So, everything.

And let’s not forget this fun email from Trenberth (this one is pretty stomach churning, too)

The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t.

Oh, and then there is this quote by Trenberth, which shows that AGW pushers shouldn’t have to prove their “science”

Given that global warming is “unequivocal”, to quote the 2007 IPCC report, the null hypothesis should now be reversed, thereby placing the burden of proof on showing that there is no human influence [on the climate].

And Warmists like Romm and Trenberth have worked hard to build a cult whereby nothing can disprove their beliefs.

California Dems Show That What They Really Want To Do Is Grab Guns

Along with making sure that it is really, really difficult for law abiding citizens to have the means to protect themselves and their families with any sort of gun (via The Blaze and Weasel Zippers)

(Mercury News) All semi-automatic rifles with detachable magazines would be banned, all guns would be registered and no ammunition could be bought without a special permit in California under a sweeping list of bills rolled out Thursday by state Senate Democrats.

The 10-bill package constitutes the single largest gun control push in decades in the Golden State, which already boasts some of the nation’s strictest gun laws. It joins equally controversial proposals from Assembly Democrats that would regulate and tax ammunition sales and consider taking the state’s 166,000 registered assault weapons from their owners.

This would allow Government to actually take the rifles away from their citizens, and surely create a massive hassle for law abiding citizens whom want to purchase ammunition.

“We respect the Second Amendment right of law-abiding citizens to have guns for hunting, for sport, for protecting their homes and families. But loopholes in California’s tough gun laws have been exploited long enough,” state Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, said Thursday.

I wasn’t aware that there were loopholes in the Constitution.

“We can save lives by curbing the proliferation of guns designed to be fired and reloaded rapidly,” he said. “We can save lives by getting guns and ammunition out of the hands of the wrong people. We can save lives if every gun owner knows how to safely handle those guns. And if we can save lives, we must act to do so.”

We could save lives by banning the use of automobiles in California. And allowing people to swim at the beach. And sunbathe, which can cause skin cancer. And by controlling the purchase of food with high calories. And from bathtubs. Stairs. So many things. We need to ban them now.

Hancock’s bill would ban possession — not just manufacture and sale — of large-capacity magazines holding more than 10 rounds.

There seems to be no grandfathering, either, which would mean that quite a few handguns would be “banned” since they came with magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.

Yih-Chau Chang, spokesman for the gun rights group Responsible Citizens of California, said it’s all “par for the course.”

“The violent criminals are simply not going to be affected by any of these proposals,” Chang said. “Following the law is the last thing they’re going to do, so it’s only going to affect law-abiding citizens.”

But of course. Why would Dems do anything about criminals? They haven’t been too concerned with controlling their border with Mexico, despite the heavy population of gangs, such as the Mexican Mafia, MS-13, Nortenos, and Nuestra Familia. The first and last are prison gangs (with associations to gangs outside of prison and in Mexico), and we should note that approximately 1/3rd of prisoners in California state prisons are illegal aliens. But, hey, let’s grab guns and cause problems for law abiding citizens.

Here We Go: Even More Climate Astrology In The Face Of Blizzard

There is no F***ing way in hell I am referring to it as N**o, as those crazy people at the Weather Channel do, and a few other fools. Anyhow, here’s the NY Times

A re-examination of the interrelationships between weather patterns like Friday’s impending blizzard in the Northeast, greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. [Union of Concerned Scientists]

The very fact that fact that they use a completely unscientific term, “climate change”, shows that this is not about science. The Huffington Post delves deeper into the UCS politicization of, well, can we really call this science?

The Union of Concerned Scientists has posted an informative breakdown on the connections between the winter storm bearing down on the Northeast and the planet’s changing climate.

It’s Cold and My Car is Buried in Snow. Is Global Warming Really Happening?,” notes that storms like this one — a classic Nor’easter — are well-known to residents along the nation’s North Atlantic coast. But shifts in the climate due in large part, most scientists say, to burning fossil fuels, are likely to make such storms even more fierce and frequent.

So, according to Warmist doctrine, when the ice age was here it never snowed.

Hooray! Obama To Focus On Jobs During SOTU 2013

In case you’re wondering, this is a repeat of the 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 SOTUs, not too mention every once in awhile during his kingship and during the campaign now and then, where he “pivots” with a “laser like focus” till squirrel!!!

(UPI) U.S. President Barack Obama told House Democrats Thursday his State of the Union address will focus on job creation, education and energy independence.

Speaking at the House Democratic Issues Conference in Leesburg, Va., the president repeated a theme from his 2012 re-election campaign, that “our economy succeeds and our economy grows when everybody is getting a fair shot and everybody is getting a fair shake and everybody is playing by the same rules.”

“Because I believe that is a growth agenda — not just an equity agenda, not just a fairness agenda — that is a growth agenda,” he said.

“And that means that what you’ll hear from me next week, I’m going to be talking about making sure that we’re focused on job creation here in the United States of America,” Obama said.

He can focus through yammering all he wants. What he can’t do is actually create jobs. This is what you voted for, America. Own it.

Climate Kooks Blame “Climate Change” For Coming Northeast Snowstorm

You knew it was coming, you just didn’t know whom it would be. Many news outlets are using the term “extreme weather” as a way of pushing their unhinged cult beliefs rather than “global warming” or the more popular “climate change”, meant to denote that mankind’s release of greenhouse gases can cause hot, cold, wet, dry, snow, no snow, you name it, it causes it. They’ve also, if you remember, created a fantasy a few years ago that states that warmth from AGW is causing the atmosphere to hold more water which now means that instead of snow being a thing of the past we’ll now get giant snows.

Anthony Watts catches climate astrologers Brad Johnson and Bill McKibben subtly pushing the meme that it is abnormally warm ocean water that is fueling this snow storm. Alas, Anthony points out that the sea temperature anomoly graphic used by the Warmists is a representation of the Gulf Stream, which always looks like that, and “It’s also a model reanalysis of anomaly, not the actual sea surface temperatures.” When we look at the actual sea temps, things change quite a bit from what the Warmists were pushing.

Anyhow, I think I’ve found the first Climate Astrologer to actually blame “climate change”, Andrew Freedman at Climate Central, a website that is interested in, surprise!, one point of view on climate

Life-Threatening Blizzard Poised to Strike New England

A life-threatening and historic blizzard that could rank among the top 10 snowstorms on record in southern New England is poised to plaster the region this weekend with snow that will be measured in feet rather than inches. The storm could also cause major coastal flooding and produce hurricane-force wind gusts, forecasters said.

Freedman also attempts to use a graphic showing the sea temp anomaly, yet, again, it is a reconstruction which highlights the Gulf Stream, not the actual water temps. Facts be damned, their is a cult to push!

Heavy precipitation events in the Northeast, including both rain and snowstorms, have been increasing in the past few decades, in a trend that a new federal climate report links to manmade global climate change. As the world has warmed, more moisture has been added to the atmosphere, giving storms additional energy to work with, and making precipitation extremes more common in many places. The last major snowstorm to strike southern New England was the unusual Halloween snowstorm in 2011.

See, there you go: heavy snowstorms are because you, dear reader, refused to give up your fossil fueled vehicle and purchased a bicycle to go to work. As for “climate change”, there world wide temp has gone up a whopping .28F from 1990-2012. Scary stuff!!!!!!1!!!

Something to mull on for you climate astrologers

(NIU Today) Finally, I don’t like the moniker, “climate change.” It assumes our climate has been steady in the past. Utter nonsense. It’s always changing, it always has and it always will be.

Thanks to technology, we are recording history much better than we did just 30 years ago. Also, I am reminded that modern weather tracking technology has only been around for 50 years, not even close to enough time to truly figure out what is extreme and what isn’t in many cases.

Let’s stop blaming all really bad weather on man-made global warming. Instead, let’s prepare ourselves before the next drought, flood or tornado happens – because they will. We can always expect them to occur.

And while the averages do tell things about our climate, I’ve learned that in studying current and past weather, a lot of times, there’s just no such thing as normal.

But, if you Warmists are so concerned, you could give up your fossil fueled vehicles and make your lives carbon neutral. I triple dog dare you.
