It’s not the first time they’ve tried this: they attempted to include it in the American Clean Energy and Security Act, but it did not pass
(Noozhawk) Rep. Lois Capps, D-Santa Barbara, joined by Reps. Ed Markey of Massachusetts, Doris Matsui of California and Jan Schakowsky of Illinois, on Friday introduced legislation to improve the nation’s public health response to climate change.
The Climate Change Health Protection and Promotion Act would address the negative health effects related to climate change by supporting research, surveillance, planning, and interagency coordination to develop national plan for action.
Strange, these are all Reps who take fossil fueled flights to get to Washington.
“One of the most troubling and immediate impacts of climate change is its harmful effects on public health,†Capps said. “Regardless of what one believes about its causes, climate change is very real. The heat waves, droughts, wildfires and extreme weather events that are happening with greater frequency and intensity have a profound impact on public health that we’re only beginning to understand. We have to provide our public health officials with the tools and resources they need to effectively track and prepare for these significant public health challenges.â€
We have to save you from bad weather. Only Government can Do This. It’s Good And Right And You Should Listen To Your Betters.
Capps’ legislation would help improve the public health response to the challenges posed by climate change by directing the secretary of Health and Human Services to develop a National Strategic Action Plan to assist health professionals in preparing for and responding to the public health effects of climate change.
Hmm, seems it would create more Big Government and government employees, all to tell you what to do (at the force of law). Why does it seem that every prescription is about Progressivism and erosion of liberty? All for a 1.4F increase in temps since the end of the Little Ice Age, with a miniscule 0.28F increase since 1990, 0.14F since 1997, and the reality that it was much warmer during the Global Climate Optimum, when excellent wines were grown in Britain and Vikings turned farmers in Greenland, things that could not happen with today’s temperatures.
I’d love to say this is parody, but, alas, no, this is how wackadoodle the New Climate Deniers are (via Junk Science)
Will Angelina Jolie Help End Climate-Change Denial, And Help The Republican Party?
File this one under unintended consequences. Angelina Jolie, by announcing her preventative double masectomy, will likely have significant influence well beyond women’s health. By modeling how to think with data when data do not tell us what we would otherwise want them to say, she displayed a level of decision-making courage that business and political leaders should strive to emulate. For example, her leadership just may end up helping those fighting in the Republican Party to end ongoing anti-science climate-change denial.
What do I mean by decision-making courage? Jolie started with the data, however imperfect and probabilistic scientific data are. On the basis of this data she embarked on an inconvenient (at times painful) course of action so as to significantly lower the chances of experiencing an absolutely catastrophic outcome. She choose preventive surgery to increase the chances of staying cancer-free.
There’s a hell of a difference between Jolie voluntarily deciding that, because she had the gene which significantly increased her chances to get breast cancer, she’d have a double mastectomy, all based on long term science, versus believing in something that doesn’t even start with a proper scientific term. They call it climate change instead of anthropogenic global warming for several reasons, one of which is to blame any and all happenings on mankind’s modern lifestyle, especially fossil fuels. Which the New Science Deniers refuse to give up themselves.
What would be truly courageous would be Warmists looking at the actual hard data. Looking at the history. Understanding the history of “climate change”, particularly over the past 40 years….oh, see, that’s where it breaks down, because it is not about science, it’s about Progressive policy prescriptions, bigger government, control of people and the private sector.
Also, it would be courageous if they practiced what they preached. Won’t happen.

Well, let’s see now. I never did start on Darkest Hour (The Lockman Chronicles #3), but I will eventually read it. Instead, I went with A Line In The Sand by Justin Burgess, and excellent book about what happens if the US turns against the military, treating military members and veterans with a complete lack of respect, and a man rises to be President who guts the military. But, there is a conspiracy (won’t tell you more). It involves several characters, most especially a military member railroaded for having a gun (which are mostly illegal, especially for military members and vets). I got it when it was free, but worth it for $3.99 at Amazon.
Finished that, now on to Outside Context Problem, an interesting book in the vein of Larry Niven’s Footfall and Harry Turtledove’s Worldwar series. It’s not the greatest writing style (not that I could do better), a bit sophomoric, but the overall concept is excellent, as are the characters, the plot, and the buildup.
What’s on your radar.

The same lizards that survived through previous cool and warm (much warmer than today) periods, as well as the last glacial period. It’s almost like they adapt to survive climatic changes or something
(Science) A new Dartmouth College study finds human-caused climate change may have little impact on many species of tropical lizards, contradicting a host of recent studies that predict their widespread extinction in a rapidly warming planet.
The findings appear in the journal Global Change Biology.
Most predictions that tropical cold-blooded animals, especially forest lizards, will be hard hit by climate change are based on global-scale measurements of environmental temperatures, which miss much of the fine-scale variation in temperature that individual animals experience on the ground, said the article’s lead author, Michael Logan, a Ph.D. student in ecology and evolutionary biology.
You mean lizards are able to survive in a range of temps? Weird.
The overall results suggest that global-scale predictions generated using low-resolution temperature data may overestimate the vulnerability of many tropical lizards to climate change.
Life on Earth is able to survive in a wide range of temps. Look at your fish tank. If the temps change a degree or two do the fish immediately die? Or, is thermometer in a wider range? I’ve had tanks for decades, from big to small. Fish do fine in a range between 68 and 82. That’s short term. In the long term, life adapts. Warmists attempt to create studies with “low-resolution variability” in order to make doom worthy prognostications. The reality of life on Earth says different.
PS: Ye Olde NY Times editorial board is whining about “climate change” and hitting CO2 at 400ppm, failing to note that it did not happen. And they really want Obama to use executive action, something they were dead set against when President Bush was in office.
And, dangnabit all, they still use fossil fueled vehicles to deliver their tree killing editions, and refuse to do away with their air conditioning.

Happy Sunday! Another fine day to remember the once and future nation of America. Not quite sure who did this pinup, but it looks like a Gil Elvgren, with a wee bit of help.
What is happening in Ye Olde Blogosphere? The Fine 15
As always, the full set of pinups can be seen in the Patriotic Pinup category, or over at my Gallery page. While we are on pinups, since it is that time of year, have you gotten your “Pinups for Vets†calendar yet? And don’t forget to check out what I declare to be our War on Women Rule 5 and linky luv posts
Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.
The posts do take a long time, so, if you want to send me your links for Rule 5 babeage or links, use ye olde email in the header bar (remove the NOSPAM part). Preferably, create the html link so I can copy and paste how you want it to read.

As I’ve said numerous times, just because I do not agree with man-induced “climate change” doesn’t mean I hate the environment. From my favorite New Climate Denier website, Grist (yeah, I cite them a lot)
Back in 2012, 561,633 very nice people went out on beaches around the world and picked up the trash that other people had thrown there. They picked up an astounding 10 million pounds. That’s the weight of 5,000 cars. It’s heavier than the Capitol dome.
What’s even more astounding is that this isn’t even the most trash the Ocean Conservancy has collected in the 27 years this challenge has been going. Twice before, volunteers collected more than this amount of trash, measured in weight, and once before, they collected more total items.
That first link in the excerpt goes to Treehugger (another of my favorites), which notes that this is the weight of 41 Blue whales. And here’s a summary of what was picked up
Also, 117 mattresses, 40 lottery tickets, and almost 2,500 sports balls.
So, when you head to the beach this year, pick your garbage and stuff up. Bring a garbage bag to put it in (and properly dispose of the bag). Don’t leave your cigarettes on the beach. If the beach allows smoking, bring something, like a used bottle, to put them out in. Don’t throw them in the ocean. As a smoker, I have no problem with banning smoking on the beach (I don’t do drugs, I rarely drink even beer, and I’ve reduced the amount I smoke to half a pack a day. Working towards quitting….hey, let’s see you give up drinking or another guilty pleasure, OK?). It always drove me nuts when I lived at the beach in NJ and would see, or step on, garbage. Clean it up! Better yet, do not leave it there.
No matter how you look at, doing our part for the environment is a good thing. Don’t destroy it.
