As always, the full set of pinups can be seen in the Patriotic Pinup category, or over at my Gallery page. While we are on pinups, since it is that time of year, have you gotten your “Pinups for Vets” calendar yet? And don’t forget to check out what I declare to be our War on Women Rule 5 and linky luv posts

Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.

The posts do take a long time, so, if you want to send me your links for Rule 5 babeage or links, use ye olde email in the header bar (remove the NOSPAM part). Preferably, create the html link so I can copy and paste how you want it to read.

Obamacare Exchanges Won’t Bother Verifying Income

What could possibly go wrong?

(Washington Post) The Obama administration announced Friday that it would significantly scale back the health law’s requirements that new insurance marketplaces verify consumers’ income and health insurance status.

Instead, the federal government will rely more heavily on consumers’ self-reported information until 2015, when it plans to have stronger verification systems in place.

First of all, this is another case where the Obama administration is ignoring the requirements of Obama’s signature legislation, to go with pushing off the initiation of the employer mandate till 2015, in violation of the text of the law. But, this is surprisingly unsurprising, what with all the other structural issues with the law. Who could possibly have thought that a 2000+ page Bill with over 20,000 pages of regulation could cause so many problems and be so unwieldy? Health and Human Services has already missed many, many deadlines. They’re having lots and lots of problems in setting up exchanges. And so many more.

The verification systems are meant to determine who qualifies for new benefits under the Affordable Care Act. The law includes tax subsidies to purchase health insurance for Americans who earn less than 400 percent of the poverty line, about $45,000 for an individual.

New regulations published Friday scaled back the federal government’s role in determining whether information submitted to new health marketplace is accurate.

After encountering “legislative and operational barriers,” the federal government will not require the District and the 16 states that are running their own marketplaces to verify a consumer’s statement that they do not receive health insurance from their employer.

The rule also scaled back states’ responsibilities to double-check the income levels that consumers report, which determine any tax subsidy they receive.

Essentially, they’ve put this off till 2015, relying on people to be honest (that’s asking quite a bit when it comes to Democrats) when reporting. As DrewM writes

Why no, this isn’t an invitation to fraud! Why would you say that other than because you hate poor people!

So in short, ObamaCare is impossible to implement, costs are out of control and there will be no oversight to avoid fraud.

Let’s also consider that this puts off all the IRS and HHS audits of those who report the income levels and health status till after the 2014 midterms, along with any other issues that would have cropped up from reporting.

As far as stronger verification methods from 2015 on, why should America citizens have to deal with them? Senate Democrats do not want strong verification methods for either border control nor those coming to America temporarily. This also goes to show that if we cannot trust Obama to implement his own signature law as written, and that it has so many substantive and structural problems, how could we possibly trust him regarding immigration reform?

We Need To Fight Barnacles Cause, You Know, Global Warming

Has anyone told John Kerry?

(Science 2.0) Barnacles are a major problem for both small boats and large ships because they accumulate on the hulls and can reduce the fuel economy of a vessel by up to 40 per cent.

That means CO2 emissions rise accordingly.

The rest of the article, and the main thrust of it, revolves around the paints that are used on boats to attempt to keep barnacles off them, 90% of which are copper based, designed to release their miniscule poisons as the barnacles leach into the paint, versus older types that released the poisons into the oceans, which was a real environmental problem.

Yet, the article starts out with the silly notion about increased CO2 emissions and globull warming because barnacles can slow ships down. It’s no wonder we get things like (via Junk Science)

The battle between CNBC anchor Joe Kernen and environmentalists is escalating on Twitter and over the airwaves.

Kernen, co-host of CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” on Friday bashed “enviro-socialists” who are criticizing him, and shortly afterward added, “It is a bona fide cult.”

No matter what the issue, Warmists will add “climate change” into the mix.

Man Arrested With Bombs Sounds Kinda Like A Democrat Voter

Remember the other day when a man was arrested on the University of Washington campus? What’s his deal

(Boston.com) A judge set bail at $2 million Friday for a Las Vegas man arrested near the University of Washington in a truck that authorities say contained multiple weapons, maps to three Seattle campuses and a recording in which he said he planned to do something in the West to support protesters demanding reform in Brazil.

King County Judge Arthur R. Chapman said he set such a high bail for Justin Jasper because he considered the 22-year-old a flight risk and a threat to the community.

The guns were stolen, not legally obtained, as was the truck. He had six Malatov cocktails, knives, machetes, and military grade body armor (stolen with guns and truck), to go with the guns.

More than 1 million demonstrators have taken to the streets in Brazil over the past month to denounce everything from poor public services to the billions of dollars spent preparing for next year’s World Cup soccer tournament and the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

Police found evidence that Jasper was planning some kind of action in support of those protesters, Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Hamilton said. Hamilton said that on the podcast, Jasper said he was going to back the ‘‘Brazilian revolution’’ by doing something ‘‘somewhere in the Western United States.’’

The trucker said Jasper described himself as an ‘‘anarchist,’’ The Times reported.

Jasper had concerns about topics ranging from the chemical industry to genetically altered foods to voting rights, Henderson said.

This sounds exactly like the type of person who votes Democrat.

This looks to be his LinkedIn profile. Notice the photo. This appears to be his Tumblr page. Notice the photo. Notice his age. 22. Same as the Justin Jasper who was arrested.

Permanent revolution has evolved from singular revolution to counter the evolution of power into persistent, corporate governments and their contingencies. You up the ante, so do we. NSPD51; our government is not going away after one bout of armed struggle.

Sound like a Leftist? The blog features lots of anti-capitalism and anarchist photos, along with lots of left wing causes.

Fast And Furious Gun Used In Killing Of Mexican Police Chief

During a Republican presidential administration, this would be big news. Heck, it would have been big news from the get-go, with angry opinion pieces and editorials demanding massive Congressional inquiries. At least two American federal agents were killed by the 2,400 guns that were “walked.” At least 200 Mexican civilians, including children, have been killed by the guns. And more have been wounded. And here’s another (via Yid With Lid)

(LA Times) A high-powered rifle lost in the ATF’s Fast and Furious controversy was used to kill a Mexican police chief in the state of Jalisco earlier this year, according to internal Department of Justice records, suggesting that weapons from the failed gun-tracking operation have now made it into the hands of violent drug cartels deep inside Mexico.

Luis Lucio Rosales Astorga, the police chief in the city of Hostotipaquillo, was shot to death Jan. 29 when gunmen intercepted his patrol car and opened fire. Also killed was one of his bodyguards. His wife and a second bodyguard were wounded. (snip)

The WASR used in Jalisco was purchased on Feb. 22, 2010, about three months into the Fast and Furious operation, by 26-year-old Jacob A. Montelongo of Phoenix. He later pleaded guilty to conspiracy, making false statements and smuggling goods from the United States and was sentenced to 41 months in prison. (snip)

After the shooting in Jalisco, local officials said some of the suspects confessed to two other shootouts in the area, including one that left seven people dead, all part of the continuing feud by rival cartel members.

And how many bystanders were killed or wounded during the shootouts?

I will note that the LA Times says throughout the article, and the headline, that the weapons were “lost”. Well, yeah, if you consider intentionally refusing to track the weapons till they show up at a crime scene as “lost”. One person in the comments notes that this is Obama’s gift to the Mexican People that just keeps on giving.

NY Times: Obama Just Can’t Be Bothered When It Comes To Egypt

One has to read between the lines

Egypt Crisis Finds Washington Largely Ambivalent and Aloof

In polo shirt, shorts and sandals, President Obama headed to the golf course Friday morning with a couple of old friends, then flew to Camp David for a long weekend. Secretary of State John Kerry was relaxing at his vacation home in Nantucket.

It’s almost like that pesky POTUS business is inconvenient. Gotta get in 18 followed up by more vacation days. And then there’s Monsieur Kerry, if which the State Dept. initially denied that he was off yachting (a very 1%er thing) while Egypt burned, only to finally, reluctantly, admit, “yeah, he was“.

Aides said both men were updated as increasingly bloody clashes left dozens dead in Egypt, but from outward appearances they gave little sense that the Obama administration viewed the broader crisis in Cairo with great alarm. While the violence distressed American leaders, the unspoken truth is that many of them are at least conflicted and in some cases not all that unhappy about the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi.

The relative calm in Washington also reflects a longer-term shift in American relations in the Middle East. While Egypt was once seen as the singular strategic player in the region, today other countries play a larger role. The overriding American interest in Egypt is preserving its three-decade peace with Israel, which officials believe the military is committed to doing.

The fact is that Obama and his team have completely bungled our foreign policy in regards to Egypt (along with many other nations) in pushing their “smart power” notion, and the United States has little to no influence in Egypt. But Team Obama has sure earned the ire of the Egyptian people, based on the messages the Egyptian people have for Obama and Ambassador Patterson.

For all the NY Times’ waffling regarding whether or not Obama embraced the Morsi government, the reality is that Team Obama worked hard to accommodate the increasingly dictatorial and Islamist government. Furthermore, Team Obama never seemed all that concerned with holding meetings with Islamists at the White House, including members of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The president met in the Situation Room on Thursday with his national security team, and the White House released a photograph showing the session. His cabinet secretaries and top national security aides called various officials in Egypt, Israel and elsewhere. But Mr. Obama’s decision to go golfing on Friday angered some Egyptians, and the only public comment from the administration as the crackdown in Cairo turned violent came from a State Department spokeswoman urging calm.

That’s weird, we’re still waiting for photos of What Obama Was Doing as our consulate and CIA annex were attacked on 9/11 in Benghazi and our people were murdered.

But, no one should really be surprised by Obama’s activities. Egypt didn’t capture his attention enough to do more than a brief photo-op and a quickie written statement, which said he was “deeply concerned” about, apparently, Egyptians ditching the increasingly dictatorial government (perhaps this was a bit of concern about Obama’s own rising dictatorial powers). Golf, sailing, and frivolity were more important, and as the Egyptians work towards a better future, they’ll increasingly ignore America.

Paper: No Significant Change In Storminess Since 1900

Wait, what? Climahysterics tell us that weather has gotten weirder, that storms are so much super duper worse…um, no

(The Hockey Schtick) A new paper published in Nature Climate Change finds no evidence that the frequency of U.S.  ‘extreme weather events’ has changed over the last century. “Using hourly precipitation records from thirteen sites, this study finds no evidence for significant changes in mean ‘storminess’ across the United States” since 1900. The paper debunks claims by climate alarmists including Obama that ‘climate change’ is increasing storms or extreme weather.

Capsule summary of the paper published in the Table of Contents, Nature Climate Change, June 2013:

Trends in hourly rainfall statistics in the United States under a warming climate

Has the frequency of ‘extreme weather events’ changed with climate warming over the last century? Using hourly precipitation records from thirteen sites, this study finds no evidence for significant changes in mean ‘storminess’ across the United States.

Let’s just be clear: the Earth is in a warm period. I will argue with anyone who says otherwise. This is simply part of the pattern that has been going on since the end of the last glacial period, and particularly over the last 7K-8K years. Warm, cool, warm, cool. Some of these periods, lasting hundreds of years, are deeper than others. Right now, this warm period is mild, compared to the others. But, there is a need for papers like this one in order to rebut the unhinged insanity from Warmists, who now blame every weather event (including cold and snow) on man-induced climate change. Since there has not been any statistically significant warming in at least 15 years (and, really, is a 0.28F increase since 1990 significant? No.) Warmists have to find other ways to keep the cult going. Hence their current focus on weather events. Alas, too bad, not increasing.

Was Paul Revere An Alarmist?

For a pre-Independence Day post, this is what we get from the Hufftard Post with the same title

On this Independence Day, it is worth reflecting on the willingness of our founding fathers to sacrifice their own comforts for the future–for many generations to come, including ours.

They didn’t argue about discount rates, or how expensive it would be, or if fighting the British would be cost effective in the long run. Imagine what would have happened if the “skeptics” had been given equal time, or if the patriots had lacked the will to “mitigate the threat”.

What follows that is the notion that people dare question things like “climate change”, which seems to be the bulk of it. Also, that Fox News dares to provide views which differ from those of the far left. This is the kind of drivel we get from Leftist wankers on Independence Day.

Because, at their heart of hearts, Progressives/Warmists are utter fascists who hate the notion of Free Speech when people are allowed to say things that the P/Ws disagree with.
