What’s The Cost Of Illegal Alien “Amnesty”?

How about $40 billion a year?

(Daily Caller) President Barack Obama’s amnesty for four million illegal immigrants will cost Americans about $2 trillion, or roughly $40 billion a year for the next five decades.

The cost of Obama’s generosity is equivalent to 30 cents extra for every gallon of gas bought by Americans.

Or a $10 monthly fee added to every cellphone.

Or a $22,000 tax on every American graduate’s four-year college degree.

The $2 trillion cost is driven by the federal government’s support for all poor people, says Robert Rector, a budget analyst at the Heritage Foundation. Rector explained that, on average, the illegal immigrants benefiting from the amnesty have a 10th grade education.

That low education ensures they can’t earn enough money, or pay enough taxes, to pay for the many benefits they’ll get if they progress from temporary residents to legal residents and then to citizens, Rector said.

No matter what Obama says, illegals who are part of Obama’s non-amnesty amnesty will end up with all sorts of government benefits. Democrats and the deferred action recipients will push and agitate for more services provided at government expense (followed by a push for the right to vote).

Rector draws his estimate from a May 2013 analysis he completed for Heritage, which predicted a $6.3 trillion, 50-year cost if all 12 million illegals in the country were granted amnesty.

Don’t think Obama won’t push for some sort of amnesty, er, deferred action, for the rest of the illegals.

And while liberals are pushing this

“A deferred action program that allows undocumented immigrants who have lived in the United States for at least five years to apply for a temporary work permit would increase payroll tax revenues by $6.08 billion in the first year alone and increase revenues by $44.96 billion over five years,” said a September report by the Center for American Progress.

in reality we get this

However, in a public 2013 conversation with fellow economists, the head of Obama’s CEA admitted that the flood of new workers actually helps hold down Americans’ wages.

And we can expect more and more illegals to flood the borders for their shot at gaining “deferred action”, all while our wages stagnate more, our classrooms are burdened with kids who barely speak English, and the tax money of legal citizens goes to support illegals.

It’s That Time Of The Year Again: Warmists Linking Thanksgiving And “Climate Change”

Whenever any type of big holiday comes up, you can always find some Warmist writing something nutty. I bet you thought the pinup featuring a plane in the earlier Sorta Blogless Sunday Pinup post was random, right? You might have been wondering why it wasn’t a Thanksgiving one. Here we go

Federal action needed to tame airline’s high-flying climate pollution

Some 24 million Americans will cram into airplanes for Thanksgiving travel this year. They’ll face flight delays, bag fees and hassles with reclining seats. And most will fly home in inefficient planes that spew far too much climate-damaging carbon pollution.

Greenhouse emissions from aviation are rising rapidly, even as scientists explain that we’re running out of time to avoid disastrous global warming effects, from dangerous temperature increases to food-supply disruptions.

You might be asking yourself if writer Vera Pardee has given up her own fossil fueled travel. She doesn’t say. Nor at the HuffPo article. Make sure to ask her at the story. Like most Warmists, she wants all sorts of restrictions and stuff on Other People. I’d say she probably hasn’t

We must push the EPA to propose meaningful emission reductions that allow us to fly with cleaner consciences and cleaner air. If we want to preserve a livable climate, we can’t tolerate further delay.

Humph.

It’s Time To Rethink Your Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner

…..

Skipping the meat this holiday season can also have a great positive impact on the environment. In the United States, animal agriculture has surpassed both the transportation industry and the electricity industry in emission of harmful greenhouse gasses, making the meat production the country’s leading cause of climate change. 35,000 miles of American rivers are polluted with animal waste and, outside of the U.S., two acres of rainforest are destroyed every minute to grow animal feed. By keeping meat off your table over the holidays, you’ll be doing your part to reduce your family’s carbon footprint and show your thankfulness to Mother Earth.

Notice how they are essentially demanding that you rethink that Thanksgiving dinner. They’re demanding that you go vegan.

A Vegan Gives Ten Reasons to Skip the Turkey This Thanksgiving

7. Skipping meat is good for the planet.
In the words of Moby: “Animal agriculture is responsible for producing more climate change gases than every car, boat, bus, truck, motorcycle and airplane on the planet. Combined.” Yes, really.

There are plenty more nutty articles where these came from. We also have

And here are some topics to create fights at the table on Thanksgiving, including Hotcoldwetdry.

Obama Weekly Address: “Not How Our Democracy Works”

Obama’s weekly address Saturday was, unsurprisingly, all about his executive amnesty. He made some of his standard points, then went down an interesting road. Video here, if you can stomach it. Transcript here (via Breitbart)

Hi everybody. Today, I’m at Del Sol High School, in Las Vegas, to talk with students and families about immigration.

We are a nation of immigrants. It has always given America a big advantage over other nations. It keeps our country young, dynamic, and entrepreneurial. But today, our immigration system is broken, and everybody knows it.

Same old same old. Interestingly, most of those immigrants were legal ones, and were happy to be a part of America. They weren’t slipping across the borders or over-staying their visas.

Then we get his typical whining about Congress, primarily Republicans, refusing to pass a comprehensive bill…which, of course, means legislation that Obama approves of, and would be diametrically opposed to Republican/Conservative policies…which led to Obama taking this anti-Constitutional action. He didn’t bother reaching out to Republicans, he didn’t wait till the 2015 session started to see what they would do, he didn’t do what most Presidents do, having meetings, discussing options, using charm. But, hey, he really, really wants to work with Republicans!

As you might have heard, there are Members of Congress who question my authority to make our immigration system work better. Well, I have one answer for that: Pass a bill. The day I sign it into law, the actions I’ve taken to help solve this problem will no longer be necessary.

In the meantime, we can’t allow a disagreement over a single issue to be a dealbreaker on every issue. That’s not how our democracy works. This debate deserves more than politics as usual. It’s important for our future. It’s about who we are, and the future we want to build. (emphasis added)

Interesting. He blows off “how democracy works” in favor of his kingly prerogative, spits in the eye of Republicans and, according to polls, over half the country, and then says the above. He’s done a great job in poisoning the well over the past 6 years, and this is the final nail in the coffin of his trustworthyness.

Not to get too caught up in his use of “democracy”, it should be noted that we are a “representative republic”, whereby people are elected to represent a certain point of view. That view is anti-amnesty. But, the king has determined that it is his way or the highway. He misses the point that he doesn’t get to chose the views that our elected officials in the law making branch hold.

I like what commenter at Breitbart Jubal Early had to say

I guess this moron just realized that this was probably the last thing he will accomplish as President. After January 1st, he will not get one more appointee through, will not sign one more lefty bill, if a Supreme Court Justice dies – you can forget an up vote on any of his choices. He will be inundated with an avalanche of Republican bills and the next two years he will earn the labels “President of No” and “Veto Emperor.”

I guess he was expecting lots of praise from the American people and lots of screaming and shouting from the Republicans. After a collective yawn and head shake of derision by just about everyone, he now wants to avoid the consequences of his petulance.

Will Republicans hold tough? Time will tell. Because Obama loves strife and conflict. Working together is antipodal in his world. He will attempt to pick fights for the next two years.

Yet Another Hysterical Article Blaming Cold And Snowy Winters On AGW

Climanitwits, and one of the best amongst the major media is Chris Mooney

(Washington Post) It may be the timeliest — and most troubling — idea in climate science.

Back in 2012, two researchers with a particular interest in the Arctic, Rutgers’ Jennifer Francis and the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Stephen Vavrus, published a paper called “Evidence linking Arctic amplification to extreme weather in mid-latitudes.” In it, they suggested that the fact that the Arctic is warming so rapidly is leading to an unexpected but profound effect on the weather where the vast majority of us live — a change that, if their theory is correct, may have something to do with the extreme winter weather the U.S. has seen lately. (snip)

According to Francis, the extreme U.S. winter of last year and now, the extremes at the beginning of this season, fit her theory. “This winter looks a whole lot like last winter, it’s a very amplified jet stream pattern,” she says. “We know that when we get these patterns, it tends to be very persistent. And it is definitely the type of pattern that we expect to see more often as the Artic continues to warm so fast.”

So,  let’s see,  be Warmist Theory,  the last glacial period must have been super duper hot.

These wankers have created a tautology where by nothing can ever disprove their beliefs. Yes,  what they are positing is poppycock, a big stinky load of mule fritters,  but Warmists are too fanatical to understand nor ever give up. They are as far removed from science as those practicing witchcraft.

Surprise: Only 5% Think Climate Change Is Most Important Issue

I actually read a similar article yesterday at the Washington Post on the study, but that one was all about making religious people feel stupid about believing in Biblical scripture regarding the apocalypse. Anyhow, Climate Change Dispatch finds a separate article, with more interesting details

Even though President Obama considers climate change a top priority for his administration, a recent survey conducted between Sept. 18 and Oct. 8 shows it is barely a blip on most American’s list of concerns.

The survey, based on over 3,000 interviews with American adults conducted in English and Spanish, reveals that only 5 percent thought global warming was the most worrisome issue facing the country. The survey was done by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) to see if religion played a factor in their beliefs, or none at all.

It also showed that over 50 percent of respondents either thought the planet was heating up due to natural causes or uncertain of why global warming was happening (25 percent), or that there was no solid evidence that Earth was heating up in recent decades (26 percent).

Forty-six percent said global warming was a fact and blamed it on human activity.

Interestingly, the WP article from Cathy Lynn Grossman swipes my word

Just 5 percent of Americans thought climate change was the most important issue in the U.S. today. And religion was a major dividing point on how much — or how little — they think it’s a matter of concern, according to a new survey by the Public Religion Research Institute.

The largest group, dubbed the “Believers” (46 percent overall), said global warming is a fact and they lay the blame on human activity. They were most likely (74 percent) to be very or somewhat concerned about climate change.

Hey, now, I often refer to Warmists as “Believers”. Always capitalized. Also climahysterics, climahypocrits, Alarmists, climatists, and climanitwits. OK, I actually haven’t used that last one, but it fits.

This goes hand in hand with all the pushing for religion to push climate change. Heck, some churches are being told they won’t be charged a rain tax in Maryland if they preach “climate change”.

The big takeaway, though, is that “climate change” is once again at the bottom of what Americans care about. From the study

Americans rank climate change last on a list of important issues. Only five percent of Americans say climate change is the most important issue facing the U.S. today. The issue of climate change ranks behind the lack of jobs (22%), the increasing gap between rich and poor (18%), health care (17%), the budget deficit (13%), immigration reform (10%), and the rising cost of education (9%).

Bummer.

NY Times Super Excited Over Obama’s Lawless Amnesty, Reveals Disturbing Details

It’s simply shocking that the New York Times Editorial Board would be so enthused, like school girls going to their first One Direction concert, over Obama’s executive action for illegal aliens, eh? Of course, the majority of legal citizens look like Dad’s at One Direction concerts, and as the details come out, our frowns will only get worse

Mr. Obama’s Wise Immigration Plan

President Obama’s speech Thursday night on immigration ended on a high, hopeful note. Mr. Obama, quoting Scripture’s admonition to welcome and protect the stranger, told millions who have lived and worked here for years, many of them Americans in all but name: We cannot fix your situation yet, but for now we will not expel you, because we have better hopes for you here.

A speech is not a solution, of course, and now that it is over, the hard work begins. Efforts over the last decade to repair immigration have repeatedly ended in failure, leaving the meanness of the broken status quo.

Well, if the NYTEB thinks Obama is going to work hard, they haven’t been paying attention for the last 6 years. As far as Americans in all but name, that’s a serious affront to all those who came here legally and went through the laborious process, as well as those going through it now.

Here’s where it gets disturbing

Now, though, there are reasons for encouragement, tempered with caution. Mr. Obama’s plan to register and give working papers to perhaps four million to five million people has rightly gained the most attention, but he and the Homeland Security Secretary, Jeh Johnson, have also declared a sweeping reordering of immigration enforcement. They are ending Secure Communities, a blighted program that used local police to funnel arrested immigrants to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In theory, this widened the dragnet for dangerous criminals. But in practice, it terrorized the innocent, alienated immigrant neighborhoods from their police protectors and encouraged — nationalized — Arizona-style campaigns of indiscriminate immigration crackdowns and racial profiling.

I wonder if the NY Times would be as enthused if Obama told local police to ignore legal citizens who broke gun and sex laws (more on this later)? Most often, the illegals were caught because they broke other laws, rather than police intentionally looking for them.

The replacement for Secure Communities will be called the Priority Enforcement Program, and it is meant to pursue only high-priority deportation targets. The local police will no longer routinely be asked to detain immigrants on ICE’s behalf — in violation of the Fourth Amendment — but asked instead simply to notify ICE when a wanted suspect is about to be released.

Law enforcement is being told that, when they catch an illegal, to let them go. I wonder if the NYTEB understands that illegals are law breakers, so police have the authority to hold them, much like with any other criminal. And federal law gives police that authority. BTW, since they came here legally/overstayed their visas, the Constitution does not apply to them. Do you feel better that law enforcement is being told to back off of communities of illegal aliens? This means that it will be much harder to catch those that are “high priority targets”.

Let’s flip over to the Washington Examiner, and see who those targets are

New DHS immigration rules: Drunk drivers, sex abusers, drug dealers, gun offenders not top deportation priorities

The Department of Homeland Security has just released new “Policies for the Apprehension, Detention, and Removal of Undocumented Immigrants.” Designed to fill in the details after President Obama’s announcement that at least four million currently illegal immigrants will be given work permits, Social Security numbers and protection from deportation, the DHS guidelines are instructions for the nation’s immigration and border security officers as they administer the president’s directive.

The new priorities are striking. On the tough side, the president wants U.S. immigration authorities to go after terrorists, felons, and new illegal border crossers. On the not-so-tough side, the administration views convicted drunk drivers, sex abusers, drug dealers, and gun offenders as second-level enforcement priorities. An illegal immigrant could spend up to a year in prison for a violent crime and still not be a top removal priority for the Obama administration.

Feel better about this plan yet? I guess the NYTEB missed, or, most likely ignored, this part.

Happy 3316! US Breaks Record For Days Between Major Landfalling Hurricanes Record

Time to pull out the pirate grog dance. Way back in 2011, Anthony Watts noted a new record for days since a major hurricane (category 3 or greater) made landfall on the United States. This started when Hurricane Wilma struck Florida on October 24th, 2005. During that record breaking season, Climatists told us that the the 2005 season would be the “new normal”. Of course, immediately after that landfalling hurricanes started to dry up.

Dr. Roy Spencer pointed out on October 1st, 2014, that is has been 3264 days since, as hurricane season was winding down. Of course, climahysterics are blaming things like natural variation and luck. Some are even blaming “climate change”. And some are even claiming now, after their previous failed prognostication, that global warming will cause fewer tropical systems. Even the UN IPCC is blowing off their prognostication from their 2007 hysteric report.

Now, many who are looking at the record are only going back to 1900.

If we look back further, all the way to the Civil War era, we see no major hurricanes making landfall from August 11, 1860 to September 8, 1869. That’s 3315 days.

As of today, that record is broken at 3316 days.

What is causing this? You’re guess is as good as mine, which are the same guesses scientists are making. Some have claimed cooling periods are a driver. We had a slight cooling from the mid-40’s into the late 70’s, and activity jumped. But it also fell off after 1971. Warming didn’t really start till 1980. There was decent activity during the 30’s, when there was a big spike. The Civil War era was one of increasing temperatures, as the Little Ice Age ended. There has be a Pause since 1997, yet we had a good amount through 2005.  But then a drop off.
