Happy Sunday! Another great day in the Once And Future Nation Of America. It’s big race day, with the Daytona 500 running today. This pinup is by Gil Elvgren, with a wee bit of help.
What is happening in Ye Olde Blogosphere? The Fine 15
As always, the full set of pinups can be seen in the Patriotic Pinup category, or over at my Gallery page. While we are on pinups, since it is that time of year, have you gotten your “Pinups for Vets†calendar yet? And don’t forget to check out what I declare to be our War on Women Rule 5 and linky luv posts and things that interest me
Don’t forget to check out all the other great material all the linked blogs have!
Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.

They say they are doing this because of “the environment”, but, what the mean is Hotcoldwetdry
Nutrition panel urges Americans to eat green
Americans should consider the health of the planet along with the health of their hearts when deciding what to eat, according to an expert panel that advises the federal government on nutrition.
It is the first time the advisory committee, which updates its recommendations in a report every five years, has considered the environmental impact of food choices.
Rather than obsess over individual ingredients, the report urges Americans to think about healthy dietary patterns, with more fruits, nuts, legumes, vegetables and whole grains, and less red or processed meat. That type of diet is linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease. Plant-based diets also use fewer resources, such as land, water and energy, and produce fewer greenhouse gases, which trap heat in the atmosphere and contribute to climate change. Vegetables also are less likely than livestock to pollute the land, according to the report, issued Thursday.
“We need to think about a sustainable diet that’s supportable and accessible for generations to come,” says committee member Miriam Nelson, a professor of nutrition at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University. “A sustainable diet is also a very healthy diet.”
The FDA has apparently reached the point where they do not care about your health, they’re more concerned about Hotcoldwetdry.
In all fairness, they do care a bit about the actual environment, too
The report encourages people to consume fish, for example, but to choose kinds that are harvested in ways that avoid “overfishing,” or wiping out a region’s entire supply of a particular species. Although some health advocates are concerned about the risk of mercury contamination from fish, the report finds that the benefits of fish oils for the heart and brain outweigh those concerns.
Over-fishing is an actual real environmental concern, rather than “climate change”.
At the end of the day, though, their ideas about obesity and doing away with red meat are really about “climate change”, rather than being healthier. Fortunately, kids around the country will be the major recipients of this as the guidance changes their school lunches yet again, though, I’m not sure if the lunches could become more unpalatable after Michelle Obama’s push for changes in schools everywhere…well, except in the school her own kids attend.
On a hat tip to Lauren Phillips, who emailed me this Politico article. Unfortunately, that article is dramatically different now then when she sent it on around 6pm on the 19th. I mean, big time different.

Here’s an interesting article on a subject that I don’t think I’ve given much thought to, but makes a lot of sense
More highways! Fight climate change! (Wait a sec…)
It’s an article of Democratic Party faith in Oregon that climate change and global warming threatens our planet with devastation within this century. This prevailing Democratic view follows the science that the human burning of fossil fuels is causing climate change and global warming, and that somewhere around one-third of this problem is coming from motor vehicles that burn fossil fuel in internal combustion engines on our highways.
It’s also an article of Democratic Party faith in Oregon that our highway infrastructure needs to be built out at breakneck speed in order to deal with growing congestion on the state’s highways, so that our economy can thrive. The annual Oregon Business Summit, held earlier this year, attended by thousands of businessmen, and capturing our leading politicians of both parties to speak there, recently proclaimed this congestion as the state’s number one issue. The Democratic Party in Oregon seems led by the nose by unions who also love that argument, including particularly the building trades and the AFL-CIO, who are dying for these local union highway construction jobs that used to be so numerous but have virtually disappeared as people drive less and drive vehicles that use less gas per mile.
No one in the Democratic Party is trying to publicly reconcile these two inconveniently opposing points of view. In fact, politicians of all stripes in Oregon would prefer that there be no public reconciliation. If there were reconciliation, the politicians would all be negligent by not acting to prevent the devastation to the planet that will eventually be caused by man-made climate change. That means rejecting the false arguments of the business and labor lobbies that we must somehow build our way out of job-stifling congestion with many large highway expansion projects.
Huh. Excellent point, and we can extend this to Obama, who is constantly pushing more roads and stuff as his “economic stimulus” idea (not ideas, he’s a one trick pony). If fossil fueled vehicles are Bad for Hotcoldwetdry, then why make it easier for them?

Because, obviously, the best way to stop jihad is to create jobs for them. Now, we could get them jobs as pig farmers. Or, they could do the jobs that Americans won’t.
But what’s the best idea?
Garbage men. Think about it. They can come around and greet each can with a hearty “Alahu Ackbar!” as they grab it forcefully. Then, when their round is done, they head to the landfill, dump their days work, and blow it up.
People drop off their old TVs and computers and stuff, they can blow that up, too. Or hit it with a sword. Or shoot it. They can truly exercise their violent tendencies away while performing a valuable service for which they not only get paid, but receive generous government benefits.
