Cult: Amazon Being Cut Down For COP30 Is “Complex”

It’s rather bad optics to see tons of trees cut down to build a road (using petroleum based asphalt) to bring the 40K+ who took fossil fueled flights to a climate conference, eh? I’m actually surprised it too this long for the doomsday cult to come up with an Excuse, but, I guess there being so much press about as of late necessitated it

Fact check: Was rainforest cut down for a highway to COP30?

World leaders, policy makers and environmentalists are currently gathering in Belem, Brazil, to discuss climate change. But every year, the World Climate Conference, or COP, also sparks criticism as thousands of attendees travel from around the world to be there. At this year’s event, dubbed COP30, one criticism in particular went viral on social media.

Claim: Amazon rain forest was felled to build a highway for COP30.

DW Fact check: Misleading

This claim has already been circulating for eight months but is currently regaining momentum while the conference is on. Some social media posts with this claim are getting more than a million views

Misleading!

But the reality behind these viral claims is more complex than the posts on social media make out.

Complex!

Yes, it is true, parts of the rain forest were felled to build a four-lane highway approximately 13.2 kilometers long close to Belem. The highway is called Avenida Liberdade. But, according to local officials, this was not done just for COP30. Plans for construction of a highway here date back to 2012, long before Belem was chosen to host this year’s conference. However other media have reported that the highway is linked to this year’s conference.

Oh, OK, it’s completely true. Everything is is just mule fritters. It matters not if there were plans since 2012: the fact is the construction started recently, in order to connect Belem to the conference center. Here was the BBC, one of the first to report this back in March 2025

A new four-lane highway cutting through tens of thousands of acres of protected Amazon rainforest is being built for the COP30 climate summit in the Brazilian city of Belém.

In other words, it was being built in March. And they did it for COP30.

DW reached out to the BBC for reaction. “The BBC report is based on state governments documents and an interview with a state government official — two of which directly link the project to COP30,” a BBC spokesperson said.

The BBC also points to a press release by the government of Para, dating back to November last year, titled, “Infrastructure projects by the State Government for COP 30 are progressing in Belem.”

Yeah, it’s not complex. It’s not complicated. It’s not misleading.

Good Start: Immigration Officials Arrest 81 On Day 1

There’s a lot of caterwauling in Liberal World

Border Patrol agents arrests 81 people on first day of Charlotte operation

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents arrested 81 people during their first day of immigration enforcement operations in Charlotte, according to the commander overseeing the effort.

The operation, also known as “Charlotte’s Web,” began Saturday morning, with the first reported sighting on South Boulevard, near Baleada Bar and Grill.

Commander Gregory K. Bovino described those arrested as having “significant criminal and immigration history.”

“81, many of whom had significant criminal and immigration history, are off the streets,” Bovino said, adding that more details about those apprehended would be released on social media.

As of Sunday morning, agents resumed making arrests. Bovino posted about four arrests on his X feed, stating each person has a criminal history and emphasizing the purpose of CBP’s presence in Charlotte.

Of course, the Usual Suspects will say the illegals are all perfect darlings

Is this the guy you want to protect, Dems?

Asha Patel, a community organizer with the Party for Socialism and Liberation, shared her frustrations with WCNC Charlotte.

“We’re here to say that we will not tolerate this, and we demand Border Patrol leave our city immediately, she said.

She can say it as much as she wants, but, federal law is not in her corner.

Democrats Urge Democrats In Charlotte To Remain Peaceful Over Immigration Operations

Will Democrats remain peaceful?

Border Patrol operations start in Charlotte as officials urge calm

Federal agents have started making arrests Saturday as Border Patrol deployments began in the city, a shift the Department of Homeland Security said was intended to “ensure Americans are safe and public safety threats are removed.”

Earlier in the day, local officials sought to reassure residents as the looming operations created anxiety across the region, emphasizing that the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department does not participate in federal immigration enforcement and urging the community to remain peaceful. (snip)

Community organizations reported a heightened presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and CBP officers across multiple corridors, including South Boulevard, Archdale, Arrowood, Central Avenue, Rosehaven and Sharon Amity, beginning early Saturday morning.

At his Latin bakery in east Charlotte, owner Manolo Betancur, stood watch with a whistle around his neck and a key in the door, ready to lock up. His bakery is a staple of the immigrant community, and earlier that morning, he said, federal officials swept through his parking lot as his staff prepared thousands of conchas, doughnuts for their customers.

Giving aid to illegal aliens in contradiction of federal law.

Mecklenburg County officials touched on this Saturday in its joint statement, saying the Border Patrol “operations are causing unnecessary fear and uncertainty in our community as recent operations in other cities have resulted in people without criminal records being detained and violent protests being the result of unwarranted actions.”

So what? If it was an operation against the Mafia or a gang Democrats would be fine with that (we hope they would, anyhow). These people are unlawfully present. Laws must be obeyed. Anyhow, it wouldn’t be Republicans going all fiery but peaceful, right?

Hey, weren’t we told that Charlotte and Mecklenburg County are not illegal alien sanctuaries? BTW, it is against federal law to interfere with federal immigration operations, illegal to protect illegals federally, and refuse to provide aid to federal law enforcement. It’s also against North Carolina law to operate as a sanctuary jurisdiction.

Oh Noes: Climate Cultists Protest In Sweltering Heat

It really is so horrible, and it is all your fault

Climate protesters swelter in Brazilian sun outside COP30 summit

Thousands of climate protesters marched through the Brazilian city of Belem on Saturday in a noisy, diverse and peaceful display to demand more action to protect the fate of the planet and vent their anger at governments and fossil fuel industries.

A short distance away, negotiators reached the halfway point in the marathon COP30 climate summit which seeks to turn years of promises into action to halt rising global temperatures and deliver support to those most affected by a warmer planet.

So, they’re protesting for more taxes, fees, and government control of their lives? Idiots.

Out on the streets Indigenous people, young activists and civil society groups came together in sweltering temperatures, singing, playing musical instruments and waving banners.

“This is a place for us to march and draw up a roadmap for what needs to be done at this COP: a transition away from deforestation and the use of fossil fuels,” Brazil’s environment minister Marina Silva said, addressing the crowds.

I wonder how many took long, fossil fueled flights to Brazil? Anyhow, sweltering? The average temperature in Belem in November is 89F, with an average low of 75F. It’s in the jungle, and about 100 miles south of the equator. It got to about 84F today, with a heat index of 91F. You know, jungle. Near the equator. But, the Reuters article fails to mention this

GOP Looks At Passing Bill Making Changes To Obamacare

Let’s be honest, big legislation like Obamacare is most likely never going away, just like other big things, regardless of there being no Constitutional authority for Los Federales to do things like Obamacare. The time to kill it was before it started, but, Republicans ran Mitt Romney. But, there are certainly ways to at least sort of make it work

House Republicans float bill mirroring Trump’s health care demands

Republicans on the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee are circulating a bill that would mimic President Donald Trump’s proposal to redirect health insurance subsidies directly to individuals, according to a person granted anonymity to share direct knowledge of the private directions.

The legislation, previously introduced by Florida Republican Reps. Kat Cammack and Greg Steube, would give enrollees in the Affordable Care Act insurance exchanges the ability to elect to receive a portion of financial assistance from insurers directly in their tax-advantaged health savings accounts. Those HSA contributions would be in lieu of assistance that insurers would usually apply on the back end to the out-of-pocket health costs for low-income individuals.

Staff for Ways and Means Republicans are currently preparing a presentation for committee members to review the proposal, along with other potential policies to lower health costs, according to the person.

The bill would help Congress codify Trump’s recent calls on social media for congressional Republicans to redirect the “Billions of Dollars currently being sent to money sucking Insurance Companies” and send them “directly to the people.”

You can bet Democrats will be against this, even if it would help Americans who get their health insurance through the Ocare exchanges (and are forced to get the insurance or be taxed out the ying yang), because the insurers who donate to Democrats wouldn’t be getting their scratch my back cash.

The exhortations are already complicating nascent and fragile negotiations to extend the Obamacare tax credits before they sunset at the end of the year. Some moderate Republicans hope to work with Democrats on a bipartisan proposal that would pair an Obamacare subsidy extension with new limits sought by conservatives that both parties could live with

How about a plan to lower costs for Ocare recipients, which would likewise help with costs for those not getting their health insurance through Ocare, instead of subsidies? A plan which would give them better control?

In another development that casts doubt on compromise, Senate Finance Republicans have asked Brian Blase, a chief antagonist of the Obamacare subsidies to testify at a Wednesday hearing on the rising costs of health care.

Blase, who runs the Paragon Health Institute, was an architect of the dramatic Medicaid cuts enacted as part of the GOP megabill signed into law this summer. Senate Finance has also invited Douglas Holtz-Eakin, the president of the conservative American Action Forum, to testify at the hearing.

I’m shocked that Politico mentioned the big Medicaid reductions, because people had forgotten about that. Though, it’s at the end of the article, and most won’t make it there.

The Democratic witnesses include a health care expert and an individual who would be personally affected by the expiration of the subsidies.

That might not go so well for Democrats when the GOP asks the individual about how expensive their insurance is, how much the deductibles and copays are, and how much their premiums have risen over the years.

CSM Upset That Trump Is Looking At The Climate Con While Xi Looks At Cash

I don’t think the Christian Science Monitor is getting the right picture of this

Trump sees a ‘con’ in climate change. Xi sees cash.

More than 40,000 delegates from nearly 200 countries are getting down to work this week in the Brazilian city of Belém, on the edge of the Amazon rainforest, for what is looking like an increasingly forlorn task: to slow and mitigate the overheating of our planet. (scam)

And no nations matter more than two energy superpowers with diverging interests, and with increasingly divergent approaches to climate change: the United States and China.

U.S. President Donald Trump recently branded climate change “the greatest con job ever.” He has been scaling back former President Joe Biden’s green-energy subsidies, doubling down on America’s world-leading production of oil and gas, and he is ignoring the Belém conference.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping is making a very different economic bet.

I wonder what that could be

For while China remains by far the world’s largest emitter of the fossil-fuel gases driving global warming, Mr. Xi’s government has been investing hundreds of billions of dollars in solar and wind energy, storage batteries, and electric vehicles.

That technology is not just for domestic use, though it is already having an effect on emissions in China.

It is also for export, to generate the trade revenue on which China’s economy depends.

Crucially, that has begun giving less-developed countries in the so-called Global South something almost unimaginable a few years ago: a realistic path toward growth that need not rely principally on carbon-emitting fuels.

In other words, China is conning the climate cranks of the world and dumping all the solar panels, wind turbines, EVs, etc. Products with all sorts of spying and controlling software, while also earning influence in the South, especially Africa. If the CSM thinks Xi gives a crap about ‘climate change’, they should just shut down. Like Al Gore and so many Warmists Xi is using the scam as a cash cow.

Unsurprising: Leftist Federal Court Puts Pause On Immigrant Truck Driver Rules

We keep seeing this happening

Jashanpreet Singh is an illegal alien from India, who killed 3 and wounded 4 others.

Court blocks new rules limiting which immigrants can get commercial drivers’ licenses

The Transportation Department’s new restrictions that would severely limit which immigrants can get commercial driver’s licenses to drive a semitrailer truck or bus have been put on hold by a federal appeals court.

The court in the District of Columbia ruled Thursday that the rules Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced in September a month after a truck driver not authorized to be in the U.S. made an illegal U-turn and caused a crash in Florida that killed three people can’t be enforced right now.

The court said the federal government didn’t follow proper procedure in drafting the rule and failed to “articulate a satisfactory explanation for how the rule would promote safety.” The court said the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s own data shows that immigrants who hold these licenses account for roughly 5% of all commercial driver’s licenses but only about 0.2% of all fatal crashes, the court said.

Duffy has been pressing this issue in California because the driver in the Florida crash received a license in California, and an audit of that state’s records showed that many immigrants received licenses in California that were valid long after their work permits expired. Earlier this week, California revoked 17,000 commercial driver’s licenses because of that problem.

Idiotic. The rules require English proficiency, because, get this, signs are in English. Any drug or alcohol offense would see the CDL pulled. Also, issuance has been paused and the requirements will be tightened.

The new restrictions on these licenses would only allow immigrants who hold three specific classes of visas to be eligible to get the licenses. States would also have to verify an applicant’s immigration status in a federal database. The licenses would be valid for up to one year unless the applicant’s visa expires sooner.

I wonder how the judges will feel when an illegal kills someone they know.
