Schoolkids Won’t Know What An Earth Day Without Snow Looks Like

I actually have a post sitting in draft form about Concerns about Hotcoldwetdry in Michigan, never got around to posting it Wednesday, I’ll post it later today. That said, here’s how #EarthDay2015, with all the Concern about “climate change”, went

(Detroit Free Press)  Remember that old saying about April snow showers bringing May flowers?

I don’t either, but yes, there was snow today in Detroit, and all across southeast Michigan.

It was only a trace, though.

Unfortunately for those who prefer spring-like weather in spring, random snow showers are expected to continue throughout the day before tapering off this evening. Don’t expect any significant accumulation, though.

“It’s not pleasant outside, but it’s not unusual,” said Heather Orow, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in White Lake Township.

In fact, the region is below its normal average snowfall for April of 1.7 inches because until today there had been no measurable snowfall. Orow noted that the latest she could find a record for snowfall in the Detroit area was the trace of snow that hit on May 4, 1954.

Eh. It was probably caused by you driving your fossil fueled vehicle and having guacamole imported from Mexico.

Carly Fiorina To Supposedly Announce Presidential Campaign

Add another to the Republican field. Can’t wait to see the sexism and misogyny aimed her way be those on the political left

(The Hill) Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina plans to announce her White House campaign on May 4, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

Sources close to the Republican told the paper she is expected to announce her candidacy online and then hold a conference call for the national press.

Fiorina will skip the states with early nominating contests for an appearance in New York that Monday. She then plans on speaking at Techcrunch’s Disrupt NY 2015 conference the following day.

That event coincides with the release of her new book and several cable TV interviews as well, the Journal added.

For my part, I do not know very much about her beyond her time with AT&T and Lucent, both of which had great success, and her time at HP, which didn’t, and that she had run against Barbara Boxer in very liberal California. She, of course, lost. As to her political leanings, I know she’s a Republican. Is she a Reagan Republican? A Tea Party type? An Establishment Republican? We can look to On The Issues, but, this is from 2010. Most of her stances were good at the time, but others were squishy, such as supporting the DREAM Act (though she did come out against most illegal alien amnesty measures and such) and being a bit squishy on “climate change” (though she very much supports domestic energy initiatives and opposed cap and trade). She was definitely for gun freedom, reducing government, against Ocare, for tax reform, and so many other Conservative beliefs. What she thinks now, well, we’ll have to see.

Jim Treacher snarks

How convenient. Now the Rethuglicans can sneer, “See? We don’t hate women. We’ve got a woman running for president!” As if that means anything. This is just a sneak attack in their ongoing #WarOnWomen. How repulsive.

Just more proof, if you need it, that we live in a rape culture.

As for polling, Fiorina is running at the bottom of the pack. Of course, this may be due to the fact that Republicans do not really know her, nor her political stances.

One has to wonder if her big time background in tech will help her out with closing the gap on the Internet, with social media and stuff, something the Democrats still are much better at than Republicans.

GOP Congressman Dares Cite Jesus, Which Is Inflammatory Or Something

It’s also all part of the coming GOP Theocracy or something. So says the Washington Post’s Dana Milbank, who apparently needed to write a click-bait op-ed

Republicans again appeal to theocracy

Michigan Republican Tim Walberg was a Christian minister before winning election to Congress in 2010 — and he hasn’t entirely changed jobs.

In a rare Tuesday-night committee meeting at which House Republicans advanced a bill curtailing reproductive rights, Walberg took the even rarer step of lecturing his colleagues on Scripture.

How dare he!!!!!!!!! Anyhow, said bill, which passed on a 20-16 vote, is about overturning a DC law that would protect women from being fired due to using contraception (can anyone point out where this has happened for real?), getting an abortion, using in vitro fertilization, or some other “reproductive rights” decision. However, the law also creates a situation where companies would be denied their 1st Amendment religious freedoms

“Organizations most affected are those that exist solely to advance these beliefs,” Committee Chairman Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, said at the hearing ahead of Tuesday’s vote.  “As passed, the bill fails to recognize certain longstanding constitutional protections. Because of this we cannot let this legislation stand.”

There have been virtually no cases at all which show the need for the D.C. law. However, the point of the law is more about reigning in religious freedom. Back to Milbank

“It is clearly taught by Jesus the Christ himself,” Walberg preached to members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, “for those of us who believe in him — and I understand and I accept the fact that there are those who don’t — but he said render unto Caesar what’s Caesar’s and God what’s God’s, and I think that’s an important consideration for us on this committee tonight.”

Claiming Jesus in a political dispute is inflammatory, particularly when you accuse your opponents, as Walberg did, of “a continued attack on religion.” The appeal to theocracy Tuesday night was even more incendiary because it was used to justify a bid to strike down a new District of Columbia law protecting women from workplace discrimination if they receive fertility treatments, use birth control or have abortions.

Again, how dare anyone, much less a Christian minister, mention Jesus!!!!!!!1!! Funny how Milbank never gets upset when Democrats throw around the raaaaacism bit, and accuse Republicans of being Nazis and stuff. Because that’s never “inflammatory”. I mean, seriously, Jesus? It’s not like the guy stood for life, and values, and treating people with kindness or something.

As for the “appeal to theocracy”, that just earns a good old facepalm

being beyond barking moonbat and into “unhinged tool” territory. I thought we had moved beyond this type of wackadoodleness with the end of the George Bush administration?

Bummer: Sales Of Electric Vehicles Slump

Now, don’t misunderstand: I’m all in favor of these vehicles. I would love to see a way to ween ourselves from the use of fossil fuels. They’re dirty, and I do not mean their CO2 output. And we obtain too much of it from nations that are hostile to the United States, and very often are supportive of Islamic extremism. Nations that treat women and gays in horrible manners. But, these vehicles are just not ready for prime time

(Detroit News) It’s a buyer’s market for drivers interested in new or used electrics and hybrids.

Sales of new electric cars and hybrids, according to automotive research and shopping site Edmunds.com, are at their lowest level since 2011 — the first full year of sales for the groundbreaking Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid and Nissan’s all-electric Leaf. So carmakers are paring prices in an effort to get them moving.

Furthermore, motorists who leased those first-generation cars, and have decided not to buy them, are turning them in. They’re on dealer lots with still relatively low mileage, and at prices considerably cheaper than the new ones.

Many surely realize that the inability to travel any sort of distance per charge despite paying lots and lots of money is absurd. Hybrids are continuing to do OK, but even they are seeing a slight drop. The market is dictating the value, after the Government attempted to create value. Of course, it is also government dictates that drive this, as the requirement for more fuel efficient vehicles makes it a much smarter buy to save a couple grand (or more) purchasing/leasing compact, sub-compact, and even mid-size sedans/hatchbacks. Even compact SUVs are getting decent miles per gallon.

Hey, speaking of Detroit

A look at how climate change will affect Detroit neighborhoods

The specter of climate change is looming over the Great Lakes and Michigan.

According to the Union of Concerned Scientists, Michigan can expect much hotter summers by the end of the century. In 2100, scientists estimate that temperatures will exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit for 65 days of the year, getting over 100 degrees for 23 of those. If the business of fossil fuel-related emissions continues as usual, summers in Detroit will feel more like Missouri than Michigan.

Supposedly, “climate change” will migrate the climate of Michigan to that of northern Texas (see graphic at link) by 2100. Strangely, people survive and do quite well in that area. Heck, they do well in even warmer regions. Good thing the models have been right on the money, right?

Anyhow, considering the shame of Detroit, perhaps they should worry more about the horrific condition of the city, rather than “climate change”. They’ve spent over 40 years turning Detroit into a cesspool, driving out business, increasing taxation, and now they want to do the same, but in the name of “climate change”, rather than in the name of Black People.

Adaptation and gentrification

While greater downtown is primed for development and greening, that area’s social and physical characteristics make it relatively resilient to climate change. Green infrastructure cannot just be a method for developers to raise property values. It is a vital component of building a stronger and more equal city. Targeting of climate adaptation techniques must be based on solid foundation of physical and social vulnerability.

That’s right, they are worried about White people moving back into Detroit and daring to raise property values. I certainly do not want to go all “Stuff Black People Don’t Like“, but, hey, these Warmists went down the road of racism first. Nothing says smart investment like spending oodles of taxpayer cash on “climate change” initiatives that still leave property values at a point where people can buy property for $1. But still have few working street lights, people unable to pay their water bills (this includes agencies of the City Of Detroit), emergency response that takes almost an hour (on the bright side, police response took almost 4 hours in the mid-70s’s, when we where worried about the coming ice age), and high unemployment. Let’s build tons of “green” stuff which people still won’t be allowed to afford.

Team Obama: Screw Those Americans Stuck In Yemen

Just remember, The Obama Administration really like super cares about Americans

Americans Trapped in Yemen? U.S. Says ‘Good Luck’

…..

Yet, the tone from White House and State Department spokespeople when asked by reporters about the lack of action has often seemed dismissive; the official response has been to point to previous State Department travel warnings about the dangers in Yemen, which seems like blaming the U.S. citizens for being there in the first place. Many of these people are Yemeni immigrants or the children of immigrants who returned to see their families.

“We are giving Americans opportunities — information about opportunities, I should say — to use other methods of leaving Yemen, and that’s why we have been very clear since the mid-1990s that people should not travel to Yemen,” State Department acting spokeswoman Marie Harf told reporters Monday.

A reporter pointed out that one of the State Department’s absolute highest responsibilities is protecting U.S. citizens abroad.

“Absolutely,” Harf responded. “That’s why we have been telling them not to go to Yemen.”

The actual information that the State Department has been sending U.S.-citizens in Yemen has been spotty, vague and unhelpful, according to Ayoub. Random alerts have pointed Americans to travel great distances for opportunities to leave the country without any assurances they would be successful when they get there.

On one hand, one has to point out and understand that there are consequences to actions, and sometimes those consequences are not good ones. These people should have known that being in Yemen is a Bad Idea, going back into the late 1990’s. On the other hand, these are American citizens, and one would expect the American government to do whatever they can to rescue them.

Ace notes

The WH and State Department do not care about US citizens stuck in Yemen; they only care about having to answer questions about their lack of action. That is, they only care about themselves, as they only cared about themselves during the Benghazi attack; those killed in Benghazi were not important as human beings, but merely as headaches and complications for Obama and Hillary.

Unfortunately, their narcissism leads them to making the wrong choice in fixing these “headaches”.

NFIB: “We’ll observe Earth Day when the EPA observes the law”

Sadly, Earth Day has shifted from caring about real environmental issues…clean air, clean land, clean waters…to the idiocy of “climate change”. Cult of Climastrology member John Kerry (who owns multiple fossil fueled vehicles, several McMansions, and takes lots of fossil fueled flights) links the two in an opinion piece at USA Today. But, not all are happy campers in following the CoC

(MRC) “We’ll observe Earth Day when the EPA observes the law,” the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB), which represents 350,000 small and independent business owners, said today. “The President could do something meaningful tomorrow by sending the Waters Rule back to the EPA to be analyzed for its impact on small businesses,” said NFIB Senior Manager of Regulatory Policy Dan Bosch.

The EPA recently submitted to the White House its final rule expanding the Clean Water Act, adopted by Congress three decades ago to protect navigable waterways like rivers and bays.  Under the rule, the agency could have jurisdiction over virtually any water no matter how local, including backyard streams, farmers’ ponds and even creek beds and depressions that are only wet for a few days a year.

Regulatory agencies are supposed to assess how new rules will affect small businesses.  In this case, however, the EPA bypassed that step, arguing that the new rule is merely a definitional change and does not, therefore, require a small business impact study.

The EPA rules, like so many other Big Government rules, are designed to give the Central Government, and, in this case the EPA, more and more Power over the lives of Americans and private entities, regardless of any negative impacts.

Warmist Bill Nye Super Happy To Take A Fossil Fueled Flight For Earth Day

Yet another case of “do as I say, not as I do”

(Daily Caller) Bill Nye believes global warming is the greatest threat humanity faces — but apparently not great enough to make him think twice about taking an awesome Earth Day ride on Air Force One.

The self-proclaimed “science guy” took to Twitter Tuesday to brag to his over 2 million followers that he will be polluting the atmosphere with more carbon dioxide by joining President Barack Obama on an Earth Day trip on the presidential jumbo jet.

Obama and Nye will be flying Air Force One down to the Florida Everglades Wednesday to highlight what the White House believes is the threat global warming poses to the national park. As The Daily Caller News Foundation reported last year, a presidential visit to New York City on Air Force One to attend a United Nations summit likely contributed nearly as much carbon dioxide to the atmosphere as 22 Americans emit in an entire year, when you take into account all that goes along with a presidential visit.

This kind of hypocrisy is, sadly, about as routine as reading about an illegal alien committing a serious crime. They want Everyone Else to be forced to give up use of fossil fuels, primarily by making fossil fuels very, very expensive, along with their whole “divestment” movement. But, hey, at least they don’t make messes during an Earth Day concert, right?

https://twitter.com/LilMissRightie/status/589566199119351808

They actually put their trash (which includes many things, such as plastic bottles and styrofoam, which are proclaimed as being Bad for “climate change”) around the garbage cans this time, so progress! Much more at Twitchy.

Obama Admin Admits Mistake In Granting Executive Amnesty To Murderous Gang Member

Have you heard what has happened with Blue Bell? Apparently, some of their ice cream products have made people sick. A total of 10 people have been contaminated with listeria, leading to three deaths. This occurred between 2010 and 2015, and it was enough for the Centers For Disease Control to get involved. Blue Bell has issued a recall for all its products in 23 states. This is Big News.

What does that have to do with illegal aliens? Let’s consider, they are streaming over the borders, and many, many, many are criminals. Yet, our federal government is incompetent and accepting of these criminal aliens, where, when it comes to food that makes a few people sick, they jump in with both feet

(Breitbart) The Obama administration is admitting it granted executive amnesty protections to a known gang member — one charged with four counts of murder — and is now reviewing prior approvals to double check that other gang members have not also been approved for deferred status.

In a letter to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) dated Friday, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Leon Rodriguez explains that Emmanuel Jesus Rangel-Hernandez’s request for deferred status under President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program “should not have been approved” based on standard procedure.

Rangel-Hernandez is currently charged with the murder of four people, including former “America’s Next Top Model” contestant Mirjana Puhar.

Rangel-Hernandez’s alleged crimes took place in Charlotte, North Carolina. Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) called the administration’s confirmation “chilling.”

“For some time, the administration has promised Americans that those who qualify for their executive order would fully meet a set of guidelines meant to keep criminals out of our country,” Burr said Tuesday. ”We now know that isn’t true and that the agency tasked with implementing the President’s edict cannot effectively carry out the rule without compromising the safety of Americans.”

USCIS is essentially saying “our bad

USCIS added that it would be offering refresher training to its officers on these matters and “is in the process of completing a review of prior DACA approvals to determine if requests from known gang members were processed in a manner consistent with standard protocol. USCIS has identified certain cases that merit further review and it therefore undertaking a review of each of these individual case files.”

Perhaps there is a reason that Presidents shouldn’t rule by executive order. Perhaps there’s a reason for most illegals to not be given any sort of amnesty.

(Houston Chronicle) Two men avoided a potential federal death-penalty trial on Friday by pleading guilty in Houston to their roles in a 2013 gang-ordered revenge killing.

Cristian Alexander Zamora, 22, and 19-year-old Ricardo Leonel Campos Lara each admitted to one count of aiding and abetting murder on federal property in connection with the near-decapitation of a Klein Forest High School student with a machete and bat in the Sam Houston National Forest.

A third man, Jose Leonel Bonilla-Romero, is also charged for the murder. He was 17 at the time. All three are illegal aliens.

(American Thinker) As a “pencil protrusion” reinforcement is about to be placed on the top of the fence encircling the White House, far off on the other side of the enclosure an illegal immigrant from Guatemala was arrested for exposing himself to an eight-year-old girl in Pennsylvania.

The Obama DREAMer type spent the morning cruising Bensalem, a working-class community usually considered safe. When Juan Perez-Juarez approached a child outside her home and tried to entice her to get into his car, the little girl refused and told him that she wasn’t allowed go anywhere with him.

That’s when Juan emerged from the vehicle and exposed himself. Then, just like many illegal immigrants have done on America’s laws, Perez-Juarez disrespectfully urinated on the street.

25-year-old Hermes Rivera has admitted to police that he raped a 10 year old girl multiple times in Kenner, La. He’s also an illegal. And would be of the right age for Obama’s amnesty. Many of those “kids” streaming across our border recently are criminals and are committing crimes.

When it comes to small problems with food safety, it is a big deal. As it should be. Yet, when illegals are killing, raping, exposing themselves, and committing other crimes, the US government seems to welcome these people. Strange world.

NY Comptrollers: Force Companies To Make “Climate Change” Disclosures

Hey, you know how I constantly write that “climate change” is really about Progressive politics, which requires bigger and bigger centralized government with more and more control over our lives, over private entities, and over economies?

New York comptrollers call on SEC to enforce climate change disclosures at companies

New York state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer on Friday said the SEC should “consider enforcement and other actions” to make fossil-fuel companies improve disclosure of “material risks” that climate change “poses to their business.”

Mr. DiNapoli is the sole trustee of the $181.7 billion New York State Common Retirement Fund, Albany, and Mr. Stringer is the fiduciary for the $163.4 billion New York City Retirement Systems, which consists of five city pension funds.

“The silence of fossil-fuel companies on the risks they face from climate change is a red flag for investors,” Mr. Stringer said in a news release issued by both comptrollers.

“It’s time for the SEC to step in and, through regulatory or enforcement action, require these companies to provide complete and accurate information to protect investors and the broader marketplace,” Mr. DiNapoli said in the news release.

Huh. More Big Government. Weird, right?

Interesting that neither comptroller is willing to divest their funds from fossil fuels, as well.
