I would think the answer it is to instill Conservative values, extoll the value of learning, stop projects that destroy the value, etc and so on. Tobias T. Gibson looks to double-down on more idiot Progressivism
To diminish urban unrest, start by restoring voting rights
In recent months, there have been a series of peaceful-turned-violent protests in large, urban areas. Many authors have covered the root causes and implications of these protests. While the spark in several of these protests has been the death of a black man during altercation with police, there is certainly tinder that existed well prior to the unrest. Ferguson, Mo.; Baltimore and now Cleveland have become synonymous with a wave of protest that seems to be sweeping the nation.
Riots. He means riots.
Most Americans believe firmly in the right to protest peacefully. That support drops dramatically when the protests turn to violence. In my view, if Americans are serious about preventing violent protest, there is a relatively simple preliminary solution: Restore and enhance the franchise. This simple solution will not solve the root causes of upheaval such as education disparity, racism, unemployment and poverty. President Obama, when asked about issues plaguing the people of Baltimore, replied that “If we think we’re just going to send police in to do the dirty work of containing the problems that arise there, and if, as a nation, we don’t ask what we can do to change these communities, to help uplift these communities and give these kids opportunity, then we’re not going to solve this problem.” While solving a host of complex, complicated, interrelated problems is difficult, allowing all voting-age Americans to vote may indirectly lead to improvements.
Two points: it’s interesting how these issues mostly occur in Black liberal areas, hence my notion that Liberalism and the Democrat Party have utterly failed Black Americans.
Second, Gibson tells us to restore the franchise to felons, then says it won’t solve the problem of urban violence. He also fails to note that these felons disenfranchised themselves by committing a felonious crime. Since he’s primarily referring to Blacks, perhaps he should consider that the vast majority of crime against Blacks is committed by Blacks, what is termed “Black in origin” crime.
The combination of disenfranchising tools leads to the insidious and perverse consequence that those without an electoral voice take their voices and anger to the streets. And when those protests turn violent, large segments of the American populace are shocked at the scenes in the street — and suggest more “conventional” approaches to political change.
So, we’re supposed to restore the ability to vote to people who are convicted felons because, otherwise, they get violent? Maybe it would be better to tell them that looting and burning drug stores and other buildings is not acceptable, and stick them back in jail. This is yet another Liberal attempt to excuse criminal behavior within the Black community. These same felons would simply vote for the same Party that has helped create the despicable conditions within the Black urban areas.

West must pay up to secure deal at Paris climate change summit, warns Fabius
French minister says COP21 climate conference’s success in curbing emissions requires rich nations to fulfil earlier funding pledges to finance poor countries
Is it really necessary to excerpt anything beyond the headline and subhead? They say it all.
Rich countries must keep their financial promises to the poor on global warming, or key international climate change negotiations this year risk falling apart, the French foreign minister will warn his counterparts in other developed nations this weekend. (snip)
At the last major climate summit, in Copenhagen in 2009, the developing world was promised financial flows of at least $100bn (£65bn) a year by 2020, but in many cases the money has been slow in coming.
Laurent Fabius, the French foreign minister, who will preside over the Paris talks, said this aid would be the key issue.
“The question of financing is, in fact, decisive for reaching an agreement in Paris,†he said.
“The promise of Copenhagen must be kept, absolutely – it is the basis of trust, and for many countries it is the condition of reaching agreement. Therefore, it is a priority as president [of the negotiations].â€
Funny how the solutions to “solving climate change” always seem to revolve around hardcore Leftist policy prescriptions, don’t you think?
Personally, I can’t wait to hear about the number of private jets and fossil fueled flights, along with all the limos which have horrible gas mileage, taken to the Paris climate change talks this December.

I wonder where the money will come from?
(UK Independent) Scientists and economists have joined forces to launch a global research initiative to make green energy cheaper than coal within 10 years, a target they believe is critical to avoid dangerous climate change. They have compared the goal to the Apollo programme of the 1960s when the United States stated that it would put a man on the Moon by the end of the decade.
Even though they are doing this for a fake reason based on junk scie
nce, I’d be fore eliminating the need for coal.
Leading academics, including former government chief scientist Sir David King, past president of the Royal Society Lord Rees, and economists Lord Stern and Lord Layard, in effect said that the world cannot be saved from global warming unless coal – the dirtiest fossil fuel – is put out of business.
They have called the plan the Global Apollo Programme and hope to recruit countries from around the world in an international commitment to boost research and development into key areas of renewable energy, storage and electricity transmission.
So, they want to use Other People’s money, not their own. Anyone shocked?
It states that there is a “shocking underspend†on global research and development aimed at renewable energy – amounting to just 2 per of total global public funding on research. This needs to be boosted from $6bn (£4bn) a year to at least $15bn a year, the report says.
On has to wonder why they don’t pay for it themselves? Why do Other People have to pay for their belief sets? Oh, right, because this initiative will put money in their own pockets from government.
One also has to wonder if these folks have given up their own use of fossil fuels

It’s very inconvenient that the Great Pause has lengthened to 18 years and 6 months, per RSS (which, suddenly, Warmists do not like). To cover for the lack of warming, which was even noted by Kevin Trenberth in the Climategate emails (“The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t.â€), the Cult of Climastrology has come up with over 70 excuses, most of which tend to blame natural variability. NOAA went a different route
(Daily Caller) National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration scientists have found a solution to the 15-year “pause†in global warming: They “adjusted†the hiatus in warming out of the temperature record.
New climate data by NOAA scientists doubles the warming trend since the late 1990s by adjusting pre-hiatus temperatures downward and inflating temperatures in more recent years.
“Newly corrected and updated global surface temperature data from NOAA’s [National Centers for Environmental Information] do not support the notion of a global warming ‘hiatus,’†wrote NOAA scientists in their study presenting newly adjusted climate data.
To increase the rate in warming, NOAA scientists put more weight on certain ocean buoy arrays, adjusted ship-based temperature readings upward, and slightly raised land-based temperatures as well. Scientists said adjusted ship-based temperature data “had the largest impact on trends for the 2000-2014 time period, accounting for 0.030°C of the 0.064°C trend difference.†They added that the “buoy offset correction contributed 0.014°C… to the difference, and the additional weight given to the buoys because of their greater accuracy contributed 0.012°C.â€
This is what they call “science”. Just fabricate the Pause away!
But that’s not all NOAA did to increase the warming trend in recent decades. Climate expert Bob Tisdale and meteorologist Anthony Watts noted that to “manufacture warming during the hiatus, NOAA adjusted the pre-hiatus data downward.â€
“If we subtract the [old] data from the [new] data… we can see that that is exactly what NOAA did,†Tisdale and Watts wrote on the science blog Watts Up With That.
Greg “Blocking Everyone Who Doesn’t Agree” Laden provides a laughable take from the Warmist side
There is, however, variation as the earth’s surface temperature steadily rises as the result of the human release of greenhouse gas pollution. Every now and then that variation results in a period of several years when the rise in global temperature is relatively slow, and a recent such period has been termed a “hiatus†or “pause.†But that signifier mainly comes from those who deny the reality of global warming, and is often used by them as an argument that global warming is somehow not real. It is real, and they are wrong.
In other words, nature is responsible for pauses and slowdowns, Mankind is solely responsible for warming. This is the Cult of Climastrology in a nutshell. They have a tough time explaining why the same natural conditions which cause the Pause/slowdown cannot be responsible for the warming. Heck, they don’t even try. They just throw out insults. Then they block you on Twitter for asking inconvenient questions.
Via Climate Depot, we read
Key pitfalls of the paper:
-The authors have produced adjustments that are at odds with other all other surface temperature datasets, as well as those compiled via satellite.-They do not include any data from the Argo array that is the world’s best coherent data set on ocean temperatures.-Adjustments are largely to sea surface temperatures (SST) and appear to align ship measurements of SST with night marine air temperature (NMAT) estimates, which have their own data bias problems.-The extend of the largest SST adjustment made over the hiatus period, supposedly to reflect a continuing change in ship observations (from buckets to engine intake thermometers) is not justified by any evidence as to the magnitude of the appropriate adjustment, which appears to be far smaller.
This is all just another attempt to protect the Cult of Climastrology, continue the funding gravy train, continue the scaremongering, and continue pushing for more taxation and governmental control of individuals, private entities, and economies. Progressivism at work, pushed by people who refuse to give up their own fossil fuels usage and go “carbon neutral” in their own lives.

There were two killed and at least other shootings in Baltimore on Tuesday. May was essentially a record breaker for Baltimore when it comes to murders. What to do?
(Baltimore Sun) Pastors and other community organizers plan to walk some of Baltimore’s most violent blocks on weekend nights from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. this summer.
Midnight basketball tournaments and a new community center for children named for Freddie Gray not far from Gilmor Homes, where he was arrested, are aimed at uniting the city. Gray, 25, died from an injury sustained in police custody prompting protests and rioting.
On Father’s Day, the Rev. Jamal H. Bryant wants to lead a rally through the streets — clergy, gang members and children alike — bearing coffins, a solemn “visual reminder” of the violence. Baltimore recorded 43 homicides in May, the worst month Baltimore has seen in 40 years.
And right there it breaks down. Gang members? How in the heck are they supposed to be a part of the solution? They are part of the problem.
Clergy invited to Baltimore on Tuesday the Rev. Jeffrey Brown, who led the Boston TenPoint Coalition, a faith-based crime-fighting effort that helped drop that city’s homicides from 152 in 1990 to 31 in 1999, in what many called the “Boston Miracle.” Brown led a “street training” in Baltimore on how to best engage young people.
Brown said clergy must take their roles in the community to heart to change the culture on the streets.
While I applaud the initiative, the Boston one is the outlier. These usually fail (see Detroit, Camden, Birmingham, Atlanta, Baltimore, etc), hence the reason to try them again and again and again and again, etc and so on. Why the need to continuously have marches and demonstrations and programs and such in these liberal/Democratic Black areas? As the comments point out, “where were they 43 murders ago?” Why is it that, even with heavy policing, Baltimore is a violent city? Why is there no need for all these programs and demonstrations and marches and such in Conservative areas?
Of course, even mentioning this is surely raaaaacist, as is discussing the real issues and real solutions.
