Doom Today: 20 Feet Of Sea Rise “In The Future”

Today’s scary story

(CBS) Rising sea levels have been mostly measured in inches in the past decades, but scientists said they could increase more than 20 feet in the future as global warming continues to melt ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica.

The dire projections are based on a look back at the climate record, with scientists finding that increases of 20 feet have happened at least twice over the past 3 million years when temperatures were very similar to what they are today.

If similar increases were seen across the globe, that could put tens of millions of people living in coastal communities from New York to Miami to Bangkok at risk of storm surges and increased flooding. Even NASA is fearing its launch pads could be threatened by climate change.

Many of these coastal communities are already seeing increased flooding – and that is just from global sea levels rising around 8 inches since 1880. Records also indicate the rate of sea level rise has intensified since the 1990s.

Eight inches of sea rise over a period of 135 years is actually well below what should be expected during a Holocene warm period, looking at the average of 6-8 inches of rise per century over the last 7,000 years. Remember, cool periods last longer, meaning sea rise would be lower than the average, and even negative, hence, to make the average, warm periods, which have typically been shorter than the cool periods, must have much higher sea rise.

But, hey, this is about Scaring People, so, reality need no intrude, and this is totally going to happen In The Future, you guys!

“Modern atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are today equivalent to those about 3 million years ago, when sea level was at least 6 meters higher because the ice sheets were greatly reduced,” he said. “It takes time for the warming to whittle down the ice sheets but it doesn’t take forever. There is evidence that we are likely seeing that transformation begin to take place now.”

OK. So, what caused that in the past? If you say “nature, of course”, then why can’t nature be the primary driver now?

“As the planet warms, the poles warm even faster, raising important questions about how ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica will respond,” Dutton said. “While this amount of sea-level rise will not happen overnight, it is sobering to realize how sensitive the polar ice sheets are to temperatures that we are on path to reach within decades.”

Strange, since Antarctica is not warming. The amount of Arctic ice has been getting bigger and bigger over the past few years. Greenland is not melting down. And, still, there is no proof, just conjecture and stale talking points, that Mankind is mostly/solely responsible for the current warm period.

Anyhow, I see that Anthony Watts took a stab at the “science” surround this pronouncement of doom. Really, though, this goes directly to

Dutton said understanding the response of the ice sheets “will be very important to guide policy makers or inform decisions on mitigating sea level rise.”

“One of the most burning questions for policy makers is how fast sea levels will rise,” she told CBS News. “We want to know will sea levels rise gradually as ice sheets retreat or will they rise very suddenly due to rapid ice sheet collapse? That is a fundamental question that we are trying to get at by looking at the past records.”

Yeah, this is all about getting Government to Do Something, which means forcing citizens to act like it’s a crisis, something Warmists refuse to do now, despite their dire prognostications.

Cult Of Climastrology Very Upset Over Bill That Would Require Teaching Other Views Of “Climate Change”

For some reason, Warmists are very afraid over offering differing views of climate, allowing students to make up their own minds. I wonder why

(National Journal) Senator Roger Wicker wants to make sure that public schools can teach students about “the natural causes and cycles of climate change.”

The Mississippi Republican and skeptic of the scientific consensus on man-made climate change has introduced an amendment to a sweeping Senate education bill updating the No Child Left Behind Act that calls on federal agencies to provide states and local education agencies with K-12 instructional materials outlining “the natural causes and cycles of climate change.”

Wicker’s amendment does not mandate that schools teach climate change in any particular way or even that they teach climate change at all. But the fact that it has surfaced as part of the debate over a much broader education bill speaks to the growing controversy over climate education.

It directs the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to dole out educational materials highlighting “the uncertainties inherent in climate modeling and the myriad factors that influence the climate of the Earth.”

So, of course, Warmists yammer on about “consensus” and Wicker being a big meanie. It’s like they’re afraid to allow debate and put their “science” up against competing views. Kinda like how so many were Very Upset that anyone would go against the consensus that the world was flat, that the sun went around the earth, and that the earth was the center of the universe.

Kid Rock Tells Anti-Confederate Flag Hysterics To Kiss His….

….well, you know

(Rolling Stone) Even as South Carolina and major retailers officially disconnect themselves from the Confederate flag, the controversial symbol continues to have a prominent presence at Kid Rock‘s concerts. On Monday, the National Action Network’s Michigan chapter protested outside the Detroit Historical Museum, which houses a Kid Rock exhibit, demanding that the rocker stop displaying the Confederate flag, Deadline Detroit reports. In a statement to Fox News’ Megyn Kelly, Kid Rock relayed his message to those upset in his native Detroit: “Please tell the people who are protesting to kiss my ass/Ask me some questions.”

Although Kid Rock was born and raised in Michigan, a Union state during the Civil War, the rocker has adopted the Confederate flag in recent years to highlight his Rebel Soul, the name of his 2012 album. In recent years, Rock has retreated to his estate in rural Alabama. Rock also toured extensively with Lynyrd Skynyrd, another – albeit Southern – act that made frequent use of the Confederate flag.

In fact, Skynyrd was against the harsh treatment of Blacks in the South, was against Governor George Wallace, and was for Black equality. Their use of the Confederate Flag was based on Southern Pride, much like northern liberals have this pride about living in Big Cities and denigrate “Flyover America”.

As Fox News points out, Kid Rock aligns himself with the Southern pride connotations of the flag and not its racial implications, since Rock’s son Robert Ritchie Jr., is biracial, and as of December 2014, the First Kiss singer also has biracial grandchildren.

Interestingly, most of those whining about a flag seem rather unconcerned about Black on Black violence. Of course, these same liberals isolate themselves in enclaves that are so white that they would make members of the Aryan Nation comfortable. And their policies do wonders in keeping Blacks poor, uneducated, and stuck in ghettos.

Oops: Background Check On Dylann Roof Was Flawed

Let’s see: the usual Leftist idiots blamed guns, ammunition, the Confederate flag, and wanted to institute all sorts of new background checks. How about if law enforcement, including the FBI, actually did the proper job in the first place?

(NY Times) The man accused of killing nine people in a historically black church in South Carolina last month should not have been able to buy the gun he used in the attack, the F.B.I. said Friday, in what was the latest acknowledgment of flaws in the national background check system.

A loophole in the system and an error by the F.B.I. allowed the man, Dylann Roof, to buy the .45-caliber handgun despite having previously admitted to drug possession, officials said.

Mr. Roof first tried to buy the gun on April 11, from a dealer in South Carolina. The F.B.I., which conducts background checks for gun sales, did not give the dealer approval to proceed with the purchase because the bureau needed to do more investigating about Mr. Roof’s s criminal history.

Under federal law, the F.B.I. has three days to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to deny the purchase. If the bureau cannot come up with an answer, the purchaser can return to the dealer and buy the gun.

In the case of Mr. Roof, the F.B.I. failed to gain access to a police report in which he admitted to having been in possession of a controlled substance, which would have disqualified him from purchasing the weapon. The F.B.I. said that confusion about where the arrest had occurred had prevented it from acquiring the arrest record in a timely fashion.

Mr. Roof’s application was not resolved within the three-day limit because the F.B.I. was still trying to get the arrest record, and he returned to store and was sold the gun.

So, the problem was government incompetence.

BTW, a handgun application also requires that the applicant state that they aren’t using illegal drugs. Roof lied. Weird how criminals do criminal things, eh?

“Climate Change” Also Causes Extreme Winters, You Guys!

And capitalism must be destroyed to stop this, says…

(Socialist Worker)  In the Midwest and Northeast U.S., “February 2015 ranked as one of the coldest Februaries on record for many major cities,” wrote Chris Dolce at weather.com. “In Syracuse, New York, and Bangor, Maine…it was…the coldest of any month since records began.”

The cold winter prompted Oklahoma Republican James Inhofe, speaking on the floor of the Senate, to foolishly attempt to disprove climate change because of…the existence of a snowball. “In case we have forgotten,” Inhofe lectured, “because we keep hearing that 2014 has been the warmest year on record, I ask the chair, you know what this is? It’s a snowball. And that’s just from outside here. So it’s very, very cold out.”

As chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, Inhofe ought to know that one of the effects of climate change in certain areas is extreme winters–which doesn’t negate the fact that 2014 was, indeed, the warmest year on record. In fact, 13 of the 15 warmest years in history have all happened since 2000.

Huh. So warming causes extreme winters? Is it any wonder I refer these people as members of a cult?

But given that most political and business leaders acknowledge the existence of climate change, then why won’t they do anything to stop it? To answer that question, we need understand that the root cause of climate change is the capitalist economic system. (snip)

Thus, climate change, along with other environmental destruction, is the result of capitalism’s very DNA–the unending competition to expand capital. (snip)

It is also essential to fight for reforms under capitalism. Doing so will further radicalize a new generation of activists and move class struggle towards an anti-capitalist perspective, as it becomes more and more clear that capitalism is the problem.

Just as important, however, is the fact that even a revolution may not be enough if climate change has gotten too far along. We need to buy time. While abundance is the enemy of capitalism, scarcity is that of socialism. Abundance is needed for the realization of a sustainable and just society.

In other words, get rid of capitalism in favor of a socialist economic system, which, let’s be clear, means the Government being heavily in control of all facets of the economy, massive regulation, input from government employees on exactly how a business should operate, and even ownership of the means of production.

Washington Post Totally Wants Redskins To Change Name, ‘Cause Hurtful

This is something that is Very Important in Liberal World, so much so that the Washington Post Editorial Board must chime in

Change the Washington football team’s insulting name

LEGAL SCHOLARS raised intriguing questions Wednesday after a federal judge ruled that Washington’s pro football team could no longer trademark the name “Redskins.” Issues of freedom of speech were debated. Precedents including Confederate flag license plates and a rock group calling itself “The Slants” were cited.

All very interesting, as we say. But the question that first occurred to us, as we listened to team executives once again rise to the defense of the team’s offensive name, was: Do they really not get it? The glory of their history, the passion of their fans, the purity of their hearts — none of that matters any more.

U.S. District Court Judge Gerald Bruce Lee was affirming what everyone knows: “Redskins” is a slur. You would not dream of saying it, face to face, to a Native American, so why do team officials think it is okay for a football team? The name is going to have to change, and the sooner team owner Dan Snyder puts himself on the right side of history, the better it will be for everyone.

By “right side of history”, they mean people who have butthurt and A Cause, yet, this same editorial board doesn’t seem too concerned about Sanctuary cities, states/cities that allow the use of marijuana, etc. See my previous post. It is interesting that the beliefs and feelings of those who support the Redskins is completely immaterial to the WPEB, as the WPEB is telling these people how to think. Shades of 1984.

As for “what everyone knows”, perhaps the WPEB should have read their own paper

A large but shrinking majority of Americans say the Washington Redskin sshould not change their team’s name, according to a poll released Tuesday finding over two-thirds of the public does not think the name is disrespectful of Native Americans.

Public opinion continues to be lopsided in favor of keeping the name, with 71 percent saying it “should not” be changed in the new poll conducted for ESPN’s “Outside the Lines,” which broadcast a special report on the name controversy Tuesday night.

And, this headline

Only 14 percent want the Redskins to change their name

It’s not like 90% of American Indians do not find the term offensive, ya know. Oh, wait, 90% of American Indians don’t actually find the term offensive.

No matter what a court eventually determines about the ability of the team to peddle its gear, the damage caused by using a hurtful name will continue.

United State Of The Offended. Too many people getting butthurt over things that actually do not involve them, that aren’t about them. The editorial would have a bit more weight if there were any Native Americans sitting on the board.

The Redskins should declare themselves a Sanctuary Team.

From the comments

Opposition to the name Redskins for a football team is nothing more than bourgeois moralizing. The opponents of the name could care less about the plight of Native Americans. They will not lift a finger to better their condition. They will Tweet and hashtag and Facebook how outraged and offended they are. . .but that is all. When the people are willing to give up their real estate and return to the land of their ancestors and restore Native Americans in their birthright that is the entirety of North America. . .then I will respect that they have the courage of their convictions.

Boom. And so many of those who claim they are Offended will still watch, attend, and broadcast the games. And purchase team goods.

NY Times Editorial Board Totally Upset That Some Refuse To Follow Federal “Law”

By “law”, they mean the Supreme Court’s ruling on gay marriage, because they don’t seem too upset by some people ignoring other federal law and court orders. Remember when dissent was patriotic?

Illegal Defiance on Same-Sex Marriage

The Supreme Court could not have been clearer when it ruled late last month that states may not refuse to marry same-sex couples.

“The right to marry is a fundamental right inherent in the liberty of the person,” Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote for the court in Obergefell v. Hodges. “Under the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment couples of the same sex may not be deprived of that right and that liberty.”

Most of the country has quickly accepted these words as the law of the land. But in several states where the resistance to marriage equality has been most entrenched, government officials whose job it is to license or perform marriages continue to misunderstand, stall or flatly defy the court. However they justify these tactics, their conduct is illegal and they must stop.

That’s very interesting. When will the NYTEB write an editorial regarding cities that consider themselves Sanctuary cities for illegal aliens? They are violating federal law. There are over 200 of them in 32 states, including the seat of our federal government. They “give safe harbor to illegal immigrants, even violent ones with felony records” in violation of federal law.

When will we see the editorial about states and cities that allow the use of marijuana, either for medical use (should that be “medical” use, since it is often used for non-medical purposes?) and/or recreational use? Marijuana is a Schedule I drug per federal law, and all states/cities that allow the use are in violation.

When will we see the editorial about Hillary Clinton’s lawlessness will serving as Secretary of State? Her use of an unsecured, non-government server for her email, then deleting most emails? And using her position as SoS to enrich her foundation via bribery and extortion?

Then the editorial discusses specific cases of county clerks refusing to perform marriage ceremonies for gays, and they’re very unhappy that anyone would dare to engage in their 1st Amendment Rights regarding religion and protesting peaceably

These public employees seem to forget that taxpayers pay them to do their job. If doing that job violates his or her religious beliefs, the best solution is to find another job, as several have done in the days since the Obergefell ruling.

I’d ask when they’ll print an editorial decrying all the illegal actions and refusal to do their jobs by Mr. Obama and his administration, telling them to resign, but, we all know that the NY Times would never go after The Precious.

It is impossible to imagine any county clerk or judge now claiming a right not to marry an interracial couple based on religious beliefs. And yet, that would be analogous to what these public employees are doing in refusing to serve same-sex couples. The Constitution’s protection of religious freedom simply does not include the right to discriminate against others in the public sphere.

Actually, no, because, in the case of an interracial couple, there is no religious prescription against that, since the people getting married would be a man and a woman. As for “public sphere”, my copy of the Bill Of Rights does not include any sort of exemption. How about yours? When do we get the editorial which slams the Obama administration for targeting Conservative groups using the power of the IRS, which possibly colluded (illegally) with the Department of Justice/FBI, which discriminated in the public sphere?
