Bummer: Arctic Climate Expedition Blocked By Heavy Ice

So sad….oh, wait, right, heavy ice is now also caused by man-induced climate change (via Newsbusters)

(CBC) A carefully planned, 115-day scientific expedition on board the floating research vessel, the CCGS Amundsen, has been derailed as the icebreaker was called to help resupply ships navigate heavy ice in Hudson Bay.

“Obviously it has a large impact on us,” says Martin Fortier, executive director of ArcticNet, which coordinates research on the vessel. “It’s a frustrating situation.”

During the summer, the Amundsen operates as a floating research centre with experiments running 24 hours a day. This year it was scheduled to reach North Baffin Bay.

But the icebreaker has been rerouted to escort commercial ships en route to resupply communities in Northern Quebec on the eastern side of Hudson Bay.

Johnny Leclair, assistant commissioner for the Coast Guard, said Tuesday conditions in the area are the worst he’s seen in 20 years.

As Newsbusters P.J. Gladnick points out that the article forgot to actually point out what said expedition was about, because, you know, that would be rather embarrassing

So exactly WHAT was the purpose of that 115-day scientific expedition in which the CCGS Amundsen was supposed to act as research vessel? CBC News is apparently too embarrassed to tell us so let us check in with Kossack MarineChemist, the screen name of Jay T. Man Surrounded By People Carrying Guns Bummed He Can’t Take Guns Away From Law Abiding Citizens

It’s his biggest frustration

Obama admits US gun laws are his ‘biggest frustration

President Barack Obama has admitted that his failure to pass “common sense gun safety laws” in the US is the greatest frustration of his presidency.

In an interview with the BBC, Mr Obama said it was “distressing” not to have made progress on the issue “even in the face of repeated mass killings”.

He vowed to keep trying, but the BBC’s North America editor Jon Sopel said the president did not sound very confident.

His problem is that the legislation he wants would mostly restrict law abiding citizens from purchasing guns. It would really not make a dent in the number of people who have guns illegally and use them. He, like other Democrats, wants to deny citizens the use of firearms for protection, even as he surrounds himself with a large number of armed people for his protection.

Most of the legislative proposals from Obama and Democrats will simply harm the law abiding citizens who purchase firearms, and wouldn’t affect the criminal elements running around the streets of liberal cities in the least.

However, Mr Obama said race relations had improved during his presidency.

Except, most polls, including a just released poll, say the opposite.

But with just 18 months left in power, he said gun control was the area where he has been “most frustrated and most stymied” since coming to power in 2009.

“If you look at the number of Americans killed since 9/11 by terrorism, it’s less than 100. If you look at the number that have been killed by gun violence, it’s in the tens of thousands,” Mr Obama said.

By percentage, the major portion occurs in Democrat cities, and amongst the Black population. Murder and firing a gun at another person is already illegal. Will these criminals suddenly decide to follow the law? Of course not. But, Dem gun control pushes would disarm the people who need the guns for protection from the rampant criminality in Liberal cities.

Of course, Obama doesn’t seem too concerned with the tens of thousands of criminal illegal aliens that ICE has released back on to the streets, rather than deporting them. He wasn’t concerned enough to pick up the phone to call the family of Kathryn Steinle, killed by an illegal alien with an illegal gun. Nor is he concerned about Iran getting nuclear weapons at the end of his short term deal. Nor Iran increasing it’s support for terrorists once it becomes flush with cash from the removal of sanctions.

Hey, remember how Obama became so upset after Operation Fast And Furious came to light, where people who work for him ran guns into Mexico, lost track of them, never bothered informing the Mexican government, and hundreds have been killed and wounded, including children? Oh, right, he was upset that Republicans wanted F&F investigated, and did all he could to stonewall investigations.

Democrats Remove Jefferson, Jackson From Fundraising Name

This is how silly Democrats are getting….yes, I know, Democrats are always silly

(ctpost) Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson are history in Connecticut.

Under pressure from the NAACP, the state Democratic Party will scrub the names of the two presidents from its annual fundraising dinner because of their ties to slavery.

Party leaders voted unanimously Wednesday night in Hartford to rename the Jefferson Jackson Bailey dinner in the aftermath of last month’s fatal shooting of nine worshipers at a historic black church in Charleston, S.C.

The decision is believed to be unprecedented and could prompt Democrats in other states with similarly named events to follow suit.

No word if Democrats are going to demand that everything that bears the name of Robert Byrd, a Democratic icon who was a high ranking member in the KKK, be changed.

Balletto said blacks and Native Americans are a major constituency of the Democratic Party.

“When something offends someone, it’s beyond being politically correct,” Balletto said.

“It just causes a need for change.”

When will Democrats change the name of their political Party? It’s offensive. It is steeped in a history of racism, segregation, the KKK, bigotry, and Jim Crow. It’s a party that likes to keep blacks in modern day plantations of despair, like Detroit, Baltimore, and Birmingham, all while patronizing them, treating them simply as a voting block rather than people, and thinking that Blacks are “theirs”. Democrats need to change their name.

Salon Offers “Terrifying” News On Sea Rise

No, really. This is a bit of a follow up to the previous post on sea rise. Which is terrifying!

A new study from James Hansen warns we could see up to 10 feet of sea level rise by the end of this century

Terrifying!!!!!!! Of course, if you search that word, it returns 296,000 hits. There are two posts on the front page, including this one, that have “terrifying” in the headline, and a 3rd in the sidebar. Everything is terrifying in Salon World. Or equally bombastic. Especially when it comes to Hotcoldwetdry.

If the world fails to get its act together and commit to severe cuts in greenhouse gas emissions — enough to limit global warming to the agreed-upon and, some say,doomed to fail,target of 2 degrees Celsius — we could be looking at sea level rise on the order of 10 feet by the end of this century.

That’s the frankly terrifying assessment put forth in a new paper from a team of 17 leading climate researchers published Monday in the journal Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics. By taking into account feedback loops that could cause the polar ice sheets to melt more quickly than anticipated, it goes much further than previous studies: the admittedly conservative IPCC report, for example, anticipated that we’d see about 3 feet by 2100. That alone would be a potential catastrophe for coastal cities and island nations.

Wait, I thought it was 20 feet? The same writer, Lindsay Abrams, just told us it was going to be 20 feet. Oh, OK, she’s prognosticating even more centuries out. At least she didn’t call it terrifying. Just other words like “doomed” and “apocalyptic”.

Yet, for all the hyper-ventilating, Warmists like Lindsay will pretty much refuse to give up fossil fuels and their own big carbon footprint, not advise other Cult of Climastrology members to do the same.

Cult Of Climastrology Predicts 10 Feet Of Sea Rise In 50 Years

Earth’s Most Famous Climate Scientist Issues Bombshell Sea Level Warning
Could the oceans really rise 10 feet in the next 50 years?

In what may prove to be a turning point for political action on climate change, a breathtaking new study casts extreme doubt about the near-term stability of global sea levels.

The study—written by James Hansen, NASA’s former lead climate scientist, and 16 co-authors, many of whom are considered among the top in their fields—concludes that glaciers in Greenland and Antarctica will melt 10 times faster than previous consensus estimates, resulting in sea level rise of at least 10 feet in as little as 50 years. The study, which has not yet been peer-reviewed, brings new importance to a feedback loop in the ocean near Antarctica that results in cooler freshwater from melting glaciers forcing warmer, saltier water underneath the ice sheets, speeding up the melting rate. Hansen, who is known for being alarmist and also right, acknowledges that his study implies change far beyond previous consensus estimates. In a conference call with reporters, he said he hoped the new findings would be “substantially more persuasive than anything previously published.” I certainly find them to be.

Two points. First, this is all about scaring politicians and those who really don’t pay attention beyond the superficial to Do Something. Second, if this came to pass, it would in no way prove anthropogenic causation. Because it has happened before.

Actually, there’s a third. This is beyond nutty. Even during much warmer Holocene warm periods the sea rise was less. All we saw during the 20th Century was 7 inches. To think that there will be well over twenty times this amount in the next 50 years is bat-guano insane. And plain scare-mongering.

And only a portion of Antarctica is actually melting, and Science says that it is primarily from underneath the ice, from the Earth’s natural heat, mainly volcanic activity.

Democrats Want Planned Parent Investigation…Of Group Who Shot Videos

Anything to protect the Democratic sacrament of abortion on demand

(The Hill) Several House Democrats are calling for a federal investigation into the anti-abortion group targeting Planned Parenthood with dozens of hours of hidden camera footage.

A group of Democrats, led by Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), sent a letter Wednesday to the Department of Justice arguing the undercover videos from The Center for Medical Progress may have broken federal and state laws.

The Center for Medical Progress, which is going after Planned Parenthood because of its abortion services, created a fake company to gain access to its facilities and meetings with its high-level officials. (snip)

“This elaborate scheme raises serious questions about whether any federal or state laws were violated in securing the LLC or the personal identification that were part of its execution,” the Democrats wrote to Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

Additionally, the Democrats said the secretly recorded video may be illegal under California law, as it was filmed without the consent of the Planned Parenthood doctor.

The letter was also signed by Reps. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), and Yvette Clarke (D-N.Y.).

This is what’s important in Liberal World: going after those who uncover wrongdoing by abortion provider Planned Parenthood.

David Daleiden, executive director of Center for Medical Progress, accused the Democrats of trying to distract from the videos.

“They will attack me and my organization all day long, but that does not change the facts about what our investigation has uncovered and what the American people now know — that Planned Parenthood is engaged in an enterprise-wide operation that traffics and sells baby body parts,” he wrote in a statement.

Democrats are working hard to lie, obfuscate, and distract from this issue. Jim Treacher notes

The Democrats can’t make the Planned Parenthood disaster go away. They can’t rebut the facts. They can’t convince people that the evidence of their own senses is a hoax. So they’re trying to use their political power to protect their investment and maintain their control.

Hey, they have the NY Times available to whitewash just how bad this is.

John Kerry Makes His Case For Iran Deal, Fails Spectacularly

Over at the Washington Post, Secretary Of State John Kerry and Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz make their case for the Iran Deal, after first taking it to the United Nations. When the deal is already underwater, per polls. I wonder if they will mention the side deals, none of which managed to get the American citizens back?

(Washington Post) When President Obama took office, he faced an Iran that had mastered the nuclear fuel cycle, had constructed a covert uranium enrichment facility inside a mountain, was on its way to installing nearly 20,000 centrifuges for uranium enrichment, was developing advanced centrifuges and was building a heavy-water reactor that could produce weapons-grade plutonium. If Iran wanted to develop a nuclear weapon, it was already well down that road and the international community had little insight into its program. Against this backdrop the president vowed never to let Iran obtain a nuclear weapon.

The deal reached in Vienna this month is not only the best way to prevent Iran from having a nuclear weapon, it is the only durable and viable option for achieving this goal. This comprehensive diplomatic resolution has the unified support of the world’s leading powers. It extends the time Iran would need to develop a nuclear weapon, provides strong verification measures that give us ample time to respond if Iran chooses that path, and takes none of our options off the table.

So, in one breath, it completely and totally STOPS!!!!!!!!! Iran from perusing a nuclear weapon, and in the very next breath tells us that it simply extends the time Iran would need to make a nuclear weapon.

To preclude cheating, international inspectors will have unprecedented access to Iran’s declared nuclear facilities, any other sites of concern and its entire nuclear supply chain, from uranium production to centrifuge manufacturing and operation.

Except for the long, long delays built into the deal, giving Iran plenty of time to play games. But, Iran wouldn’t ever cheat, right? Right?

If Iran fails to meet its responsibilities, sanctions will snap back into place, and no country can stop that from happening.

Except for China and Russia, and any country that starts seeing lots of legal business with Iran. The UN Security Council can nix any snapbacks. Guess who sits on the UNSC? The snapbacks are set up so that Iran can nullify the entire deal and resume building nuclear weapons.

President Obama has said clearly that Iran will not get a nuclear weapon. Neither sanctions nor military action can guarantee that outcome. The solution is the comprehensive diplomatic deal reached in Vienna.

Except, this guarantees nothing. Iran can easily cheat, they’ll be flush with cash from the removal of sanctions, and they can overtly resume their nuclear weapons program in eight years, when Obama and Kerry will be long gone from office.

And, no, no mention of any side deals. Surprise?

Developing El Nino Could Be Strongest Ever

So says the Washington Post’s hyper-Warmest Jason Samenow. Unfortunately, I have to pull part of this from the Boston Globe, since, for whatever reason, the original Washington Post article is no longer available. Maybe they realized that it didn’t help the “climate change” narrative. I do have it saved to Pocket, so, some info you can’t see

The present El Nino event, on the cusp of attaining ‘‘strong’’ intensity, has a chance to become the most powerful on record.

The event — defined by the expanding, deepening pool of warmer-than-normal ocean water in the tropical Pacific — has steadily grown stronger since the spring.

The presence of a strong El Niño almost ensures that 2015 will become the warmest on record for Earth and will have ripple effects on weather patterns all over the world.

A strong El Niño event would likely lead to enhanced rainfall in California this fall and winter, a quieter than normal Atlantic hurricane season, a warmer than normal winter over large parts of the U.S., and a very active hurricane and typhoon season in the Pacific.

Whoa, wait a minute, El Nino is a natural event. If a big one is going to occur, and if we’re being told that this year has so far been a moderate El Nino year, this means that all the warming for 2015 can be blamed on nature, not Mankind. No wonder they wanted to pull the article. It destroys the narrative about 2015 being the hottest ever because of Mankind’s “carbon pollution”.
