Cult Of Climastrology Pinpoints Exactly When Global Warming Started Or Something

No, really. Their models tell them so

(UK Daily Mail) This year is tipped to be the hottest on record as global temperatures continue to soar.

Now researchers have revealed for the first time when and where signs of this global warming first appeared in historical temperature records.

Using readings dating back as far as the 1870s, the researchers detected what they believe to be the first signs as early as the 1940s in parts of Australia, south east Asia and Africa.

What they are referring to is man-caused global warming, also known as AGW, anthropogenic global warming. Interestingly, the period of the 1940’s was part of a pause that lasted into the late 1970’s, which even featured cooling, which led to the freakout as to whether the world was moving towards a new ice age. Anyhow, if we saw the fingerprints of AGW then, what of the warming trend from the mid-1800’s to late 1800’s? And that of the around 1910-1940?

Rather inconvenient.

The study, by a team from Australia’s Arc Centre of Excellence for Climate System Science and the University of Reading, gives an insight into the global impacts that have already been felt by global warming, even at an early stage and possible effects that will be seen in the future, such as extreme rainfall.

To work out when global warming started, the team analysed changes in average temperature.

They created 23 models based on temperature data to study past and future trends.

And they found exactly what they were looking for, and this must be Blamed On Mankind. According to their models.

What caused the early temperature spikes? What caused the pauses/cooling periods?

Anthony Watts notes

From the UNIVERSITY OF NEW SOUTH WALES (via Eurekalert) and the “Where’s Waldo?” department comes this hilarious claim. Why hilarious? Because the headline says “global warming”, yet the research says that warming appeared in different decades in different parts of the world. So much for the “global” part. But, it gets better, the money quote says the USA isn’t conforming to the expected warming signal, but, “…according to the models but it is expected they will appear in the next decade.”

True. How can it be “global” when they’re only seeing things locally? He also notes that the actual paper is based on a simulation, rather than real world, and that “Model output is not the actual temperature record.” If you hit the link, you’ll see that this simulation goes out to 2060. I may not be great at remembering specific dates, but, by my reckoning, we’re pretty far off from 2060, and we don’t actually have data from 2016 on.

That all said, even if the simulation is right, it still wouldn’t prove anthropogenic causation, which is what the debate is about.

SJWs Have Now Come For Kiss-Cam In Syracuse

Personally, I do not care for kiss-cam at sporting events. What’s supposed to be a cute thing during commercial breaks, and usually is, can turn into a cringe worthy effort when the camera focuses on two people who shouldn’t be kissing. Like this

But, it’s usually just silly fun. Not so in Syracuse

(Fox News) Syracuse University is considering kissing its kiss cam goodbye after a fan suggested it sends the wrong message at a time when colleges are fighting against campus sexual violence.

A regular feature at sports venues, the kiss cam frames unsuspecting couples in a heart on the Jumbotron while the game crowd cheers for them to kiss. Hearts melted when cancer-stricken former President Jimmy Carter and wife Rosalynn obliged during an Atlanta Braves game last week.

But Steve Port of Manlius said what he saw during the Sept. 12 football game between Syracuse University and Wake Forest constituted unacceptable behavior, and maybe even assault, as men forcibly kissed women who were clearly saying no.

In one of two examples, he said a woman’s head shake was met with “no less than six sets of hands from the seats around her shov(ing) her unwilling face into his.” The crowd cheered, he wrote in a letter to the editor, which generated hundreds of comments on Syracuse.com, both agreeing and disagreeing with him.

“Honestly, I wasn’t out to kill the kiss cam,” Port said by phone Tuesday. “I was just out to raise an important issue that I saw happening and that’s important to me. I’ve always kind of been a little put off by it anyway, but never witnessed an actual act of — oh, my God, this woman is saying no and it didn’t matter.”

Unfortunately, in this day and age, when someone is out to raise and Important Issue because they were Offended, you can expect an over the top reaction, certainly on Liberal college campuses, run by liberals with all sorts of uber-liberal teachers and students. In this case, considering the killing of the kiss-cam.

What used to be considered just tom-foolery, perhaps inappropriate, is now considered an Important Issue of sexual assault, and Things Must Change. The kiss-cam was pulled Saturday’s game, and the university is in Deep Discussion over whether it comes back or not.

Syracuse University senior Elaina Crockett suggested the university poll students on whether to keep the feature or come up with some kiss cam rules, including moving on quickly if someone obviously doesn’t want to play along.

That actually makes some sense. Move on quickly.

Crockett, who writes a column about gender and sexuality for The Daily Orange student newspaper, said that otherwise it’s counter to today’s emphasis on affirmative consent that stresses communication and respect for boundaries as a way to reduce campus sexual assaults.

And then it’s turned into an Important Issue.

How are all these snowflakes going to last in the Real World?

Hillary Opposes Keystone XL Because It’s A Distraction Or Something

Let’s not forget that the State Department came out with numerous papers during Hillary’s time in office that basically said there was no problem with Keystone XL. Anyhow, this is about as nuanced as a position gets

(The Blaze) Hillary Clinton said at an Iowa rally Tuesday that she opposes the Keystone XL pipeline.

The Democratic frontrunner called the issue a “distraction” from the global warming conversation and, therefore, said she doesn’t support it.

“I think it is imperative that we look at the keystone pipeline as what I believe it is, a distraction from important work we have to do on climate change,” Clinton said at the Des Moines event, “Therefore I oppose it.”

Yup, that’s about as meaningless as it gets with Clinton.

Climate Change Is Totally Like The Lord Of The Rings Or Something

Remember when Warmists were saying that Game Of Thrones was really all about being a metaphor for “climate change”? Now we have

‘The Lord of the Rings’ reimagined as climate catastrophe — in GIFs

A planet in potential devastation — a dark power dangles within reach and tantalizes humans to the point of valuing increased personal opulence over the survival of all. Few stewards fight to maintain peace, while the plague of human obsession for abundance and domination spreads across the land.

The masses remain naïve to the situation, while an equal amount believe their actions won’t make a difference in the play out of good versus evil. The sky darkens. The earth crumbles beneath. The only chance of survival depends upon the kindling of hope burning in the hearts of the beings of Middle Earth.

Sound familiar? That may be because it is a synopsis of “The Lord of the Rings,” or it may be because the LOTR story line is starting to fit our global reality. The unfolding evil manifesting from the great ring of power in LOTR parallels the devastation in our reality inflicted by powerful institutions/organizations on the natural world and in turn humanity.

Here are five reasons why LOTR well represents our world under climate change conditions.

You’ll have to pop over to the link to see those 5, Fair Use, standard Blog Rules, and just simple respect of the writings of others prohibits me from jacking the whole post, but I do enjoy this part in #1

We each have the same individual choice to make by being conscious consumers, giving up simple luxuries and getting educated about the impacts of our waste.

Funny, because the vast majority of Warmists refuse to make those individual choices to reduce their own consumption of fossil fuels and make their lives carbon neutral, or as close to CN as can be. I guess that makes them the Evil Orcs.

White House Is Surprised By Increased Border Crossings

If you tell everyone to come and get free stuff from your business, should you be surprised when lots of people show up?

(The Hill) The United States saw a spike last month in the number of unaccompanied minors and families illegally crossing the southern border, the White House said Monday.

“We have seen, just in the last month, in the month of August, a surprising uptick,” press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters.

While this is certainly less than last year’s massive influx, August is supposed to be a slower month, due to the heat. But, hey, when you have an administration and a political Party constantly pushing to legalize illegals, promising them all sorts of things (at the expense of the American taxpayer), refusing to enforce existing laws, more and more will continue to come and attempt to cross the border. They know that the majority will never be sent back. How many of last years inflow were deported? How many have simply disappeared into the country after being told to appear in court? Heck, how many are still receiving government assistance?

Czechoslovakia built a fence to stop the flow of “refugees” in two days. Granted, a much smaller border. Yet, the U.S. doesn’t seem capable of finishing the border wall over decades. And the worst thing is the promise from Democrats, some Republicans, and the President to help all the illegals who make it here out, providing them education, medical care, driver’s licenses, etc, and looking to legalize them quickly.

Hillary Has Plan For Prescription Drugs, Called Big Big Government Mandates

Ask a Democrat for a plan on anything and the answer is always “More Government!” Witness

(USA Today) Hillary Clinton on Tuesday will roll out a plan to rein in prescription drug costs by forcing pharmaceutical companies to reinvest their profits into research and allowing for more generic and imported drugs.

This seems based due to

Greedy, or just a company that refuses to lose money anymore?

Regardless, there are lots of reasons why drugs in the U.S. cost so much. For one thing, it can cost a lot of money, in the billions sometimes, to develop a drug, do all the research and testing, get it through clinical trials and the FDA, then get it to market. Oh, and Government intervention also increases costs. Sure, some companies are “greedy”, but most are reasonable.

The last thing we need is more government intervention, especially as pushed by a greedy presidential candidate who makes hundreds of thousands on short speaking engagements, along with all the other money raked in through her “foundation”. Big Pharma certainly reinvests a portion into more R&D. The other portion goes to things like paying people, including shareholders. They probably reinvest more than the Clinton Foundation does.

One part of her bullet point plan doesn’t seem Big Governmenty, though it is

Allow Americans to import drugs from abroad. Countries in Europe with similar safety standards often pay half of what American pay for the same drugs, according to the campaign.

There are reasons why many of those drugs cost less: refer to link above in “Government intervention”. Democrats have voted against this notion many, many times. Then we get

Encourage the production of generic drugs including lowering the amount of time companies can exclusively produce new treatments.

In other words, Government would pull the patents quicker after companies have spent billions for their work. This is exactly the wrong way to do it, since many pharmaceutical companies try to recoup their costs quicker due to an already short period of patent time.

Oh, and Bored Grandma will announce plans on dealing with out-of-pocket expenses Wednesday. Who wants to bet they revolve around More Big Government?

Surprise: Carbon Scheme Pricing And Taxes Are Just Too Darned Low

One of the things members of the Cult Of Climastrology, including elected officials, media outlets, and low hanging Warmists, constantly push for is a “carbon tax”, usually in a manner that they think will only effect Other People. And they always tell us that this artificial construct would be the free market in action. For instance, here’s one I ran across at the Miami Herald in a letter to the editor from Walt Minnick, cofounder of the Partnership for Responsible Growth, a hardcore Progressive group out of D.C. pushing for all sorts of climate change schemes. Here’s what he calls “innovative solutions”

(1) Rely on the free market instead of more EPA regulation. If Congress approves a fee on carbon emissions, business will become more energy-efficient, and consumers will buy less carbon-based fuel.

(2) Use half of the revenue generated to reduce our corporate tax rate, the highest in the industrialized world, to 25 percent and return the balance to low- and low-middle-income families to offset their slightly higher energy costs;

See? Free market! And an acknowledgement that these schemes will increase costs. Returning (tiny amounts) of money back to low and middle class families makes them even more reliant on Government. Anyhow, free market!

Carbon pricing schemes double since 2012 in climate fight: World Bank

The number of carbon pricing schemes worldwide has almost doubled since 2012 but most taxes or markets have prices too low to prevent damaging global warming, the World Bank said on Sunday.

Carbon pricing, including emissions trading schemes from California to China, now covers about 12 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions in a sign of momentum before a U.N. summit on climate change in Paris in December, it said. (snip)

The study showed that prices, meant to shift investments from fossil fuels toward cleaner energies such as wind or solar power, ranged from less than a dollar a tonne of carbon dioxide in Mexico to $130 a tonne in Sweden.

In more than 85 percent of cases the price was less than $10, “considerably lower”, the report said, than levels needed to help limit temperature rises to a U.N. goal of 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial times.

So, once Government has instituted these schemes, the Free Market has determined that the values are not worth much, and Warmists want them artificially increased. In fact, many of these schemes have been deemed as “worse than junk bonds“.

The free market also dictates that companies will move away from areas that have these carbon tax schemes, or work hard to avoid paying them. There is a lot of fraud occurring. They increase costs to the consumers and reduce jobs. Governmental intervention in the free market hasn’t worked out so well.

We’re Saved: People Wore Green Ribbons At Emmys For “Climate Change”!

Let’s see: making a TV show uses vast amounts of energy and fossil fuels. You can bet that there are lots and lots of plastic water bottles present. Putting on the Emmys certainly uses vast amounts of energy and fossil fuels. Then you have all the fossil fuels used to transport all the stars, attendees, and media to the Emmys. But, hey, green ribbons!

Green Ribbons at the 2015 Emmys Draw Attention to Climate Change

The most notable accessory on the red carpet at the 2015 Emmys on Sunday night wasn’t a diamond necklace or stack of shiny bracelets. Instead, several stars sported green ribbons to call attention to climate change.

As tweeted by the National Resources Defense Council, the green ribbons worn by celebrities like Transparent star Jeffrey Tambor were part of the #DemandClimateAction campaign, which calls on world leaders to directly address climate change, including “a new universal legal agreement” between countries committing to a “low-carbon future.”

Green ribbons have previously been worn to highlight mental illness, but these had small white letters spelling out the hashtag #DemandClimateAction. Love how they’re pinning them to dresses and suits that cost thousands of dollars, pimping an issue for which the solutions would harm the poor and middle class.

You also have to love that the Cult of Climastrology is still pimping awareness after all these years, rather than changing their own lives to accord with their talking points.
