“Forty years of global warming hysteria never has been about the globe getting warmer, or saving the planet”

Hmm, does this look familiar? Here’s Mark Landsbaum writing in the OC Register

Expect global warming rhetoric to heat up

Let’s be blunt. Forty years of global warming hysteria never has been about the globe getting warmer, or saving the planet. It’s always been about control and money. Their control. Your money. If you need to be told who “they” are, you haven’t been paying attention.

They are a cabal of intertwined common interests that include government regulators who stand to gain power, financial opportunists who stand to profit and ideologues whose mission is to separate you from your money, and from control over your lives. They are socialists or progressives. They like to be called “environmentalists,” tarring the reputation of an otherwise well-intentioned group. (snip)

A compliant mainstream media, which never views a progressive movement with a critical eye, is about to treat us to another furious round of headlines as the real alarmists gather this month in Paris to concoct a scheme to “save” you from global warming. Scratch the surface of this international divide-up-the-booty gathering, and you will see that, even if all their schemes, regulations, taxes, penalties and wealth redistributions are enacted, there’s no guarantee the Earth’s temperature will be affected at all. That’s a pretty costly gamble.

It’s good to see that more and more people are recognizing what the ‘climate change’ movement is all about, and writing about it.

As Christopher Booker of the U.K.’s Sunday Telegraph reports, schemers convening in Paris have three goals: 1) to collectively reduce emissions worldwide by imposing costly regulations and banning cost-effective alternatives (aka big government); 2) to take money from some to give to others to pay for this (aka socialism); and 3) to impose costs on those unwilling to pay up, which is to say, big government and socialism. (I assume Landsbaum is referring to this piece)

People often ask me why I do not focus that much on the actual science of climate change. Well, I actually do: it’s just a different type of science. Political science. Sociology. What are referred to as ‘soft sciences”. Because that’s what this is really all about. Every policy prescription to “solve” anthropogenic global warming/climate change matches perfectly with every other far left policy prescription, those which are noted in the cited article, so I won’t repeat them again (at least in this post. You can bet you’ll see them again and again, lather, rinse, repeat).

Man With Largest Carbon Footprint In World Joins Facebook, Yammers About Climate Change

Gosh, if only the President Of The United States Of America had some sort of website in which he could address the American People, he wouldn’t have to do this

(Newsweek) The White House launched a Facebook page on Monday for President Barack Obama and used the social media platform to send a message on climate change.

Organizing for Action, the political organization that helped elect Obama, has long used an account under the name “Barack Obama.” But the new page allows the president to speak in the first person, much like the Twitter account the White House launched for Obama in May.

Striking a conversational tone, Obama’s first post was a video message on climate change that depicted the president walking around the South Lawn of the White House and marveling at the beauty of nature.

Here’s the first post

Hello, Facebook! I finally got my very own page. I hope you’ll think of this as a place where we can have real conversations about the most important issues facing our country – a place where you can hear directly from me, and share your own thoughts and stories. (You can expect some just-for-fun stuff, too.)

I’m kicking it off by inviting you to take a walk with me in my backyard – something I try to do at the end of the day before I head in for dinner. I say this often, but that’s because it’s always at the front of my mind: We’ve got to preserve this beautiful planet of ours for our kids and grandkids. And that means taking serious steps to address climate change once and for all. Now, we’ve made a lot of progress to cut carbon pollution here at home, and we’re leading the world to take action as well. But we’ve got to do more. In a few weeks, I’m heading to Paris to meet with world leaders about a global agreement to meet this challenge.

I hope you’ll join me in speaking out on climate change and educating your friends about why this issue is so important. At a time when nearly three in four adults online use Facebook, this feels like a great place to do it. Share your thoughts in the comments, and pass this message on to folks you think need to see it.

If we’re all in this together, I’m confident we can solve this and do right by future generations.

First off, this is a great way for him to feed his massive ego, what with all the welcomes and adoration in the comments. Second, what, exactly, is he doing in his own life to reduce his own carbon footprint?

BTW: “Comments and messages received through this account may be archived:wh.gov/privacy.” Huh. If only he had the same policy for Hillary. Oh, wait, he did, she just chose to break it.

USA Today: It’s Totally Appropriate To Vet Presidential Candidates Named Ben Carson

The Editorial Board of USA Today says “He shouldn’t be immune from tough scrutiny or be able to play fast and loose with the facts.” Not how they set the vetting process up

Ben Carson has much to commend him. He was raised in poverty by a single mother and rose to the pinnacle of medicine, becoming an accomplished pediatric neurosurgeon. He and his wife have established a scholarship fund for needy kids. And his low-key way of speaking is a pleasant change from some of the loudmouths who are seeking the Republican presidential nomination and other political offices.

But none of this means that Carson, who heads into Tuesday night’s GOP debate in first or second place in national polls, is either immune from tough scrutiny or entitled to play fast and loose with the facts.

Because Carson, like Donald Trump and Carly Fiorina, has no prior experience in government but now seeks the nation’s highest office, the need for careful vetting is even greater for him than for someone who has long been in the political arena. While politics is not as technical as medicine, there is something to the argument that handing the White House to a political neophyte is like being operated on by an untrained surgeon.

Political neophyte, eh? I know what you’re thinking. We’ll get to that in a minute

Carson has a habit of saying things that are outrageous (such as that Obamacare is the worst thing since slavery), weird (Egypt’s pyramids were actually built for grain storage) or just plain wrong (his claim that he was offered a full scholarship to West Point, which he in fact never applied to).

The USATEB should probably get out more, because that Politico story on West Point has already been destroyed.

It’s entirely appropriate for journalists, competitors and voters to examine the record carefully and determine whether Ben Carson — and everyone else seeking the world’s most powerful position — tells the truth, makes decisions based on facts and has the right experience for the job.

OK, then, we eagerly await the vetting of Hillary. We’ll await the belated vetting of Barack Obama, which the USA Today, like most media outlets, refused to do, and still refuses to do. Obama was given a pass on almost everything, and when some issues, like Reverend Jeremiah Wright, arose, and media outlets were forced into covering them, they were either dismissed or the news outlets provided cover for Obama.

Will the USA Today provide deep detail on previous Clinton scandals (personally, I do think the Vince Foster issue is a true conspiracy theory, yet, if this was linked to a Republican, the media would be digging as deep as they did into Sarah Palin’s emails)? Will they dig deep into the dealings of the Clinton Foundation, and what Hillary may have done while serving as Secretary of State, a cabinet level position? Will they change up and start looking into Benghazi and her emails, rather than mostly providing cover? Her spotty resume? The spectacular greed? All the women she helped destroy who had accused Bill of sexual assault and/or rape?

We eagerly await the USA Today doing in-depth reporting on these subjects.

Court Once Again Blocks Obama Immigration Plan For Illegals

No worries, I’m sure Team Obama has plans to circumvent this court order

(AP) President Barack Obama’s plan to protect from deportation an estimated 5 million people living in the United States illegally suffered another setback Monday in a ruling from a New Orleans-based federal appeals court.

In a 2-1 decision, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a Texas-based federal judge’s injunction blocking the administration’s immigration initiative.

Republicans had criticized the plan as an illegal executive overreach when Obama announced it last November. Twenty-six states challenged the plan in court.

The administration argued that the executive branch was within its rights in deciding to defer deportation of selected groups of immigrants, including children who were brought to the U.S. illegally.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott praised the ruling.

“President Obama should abandon his lawless executive amnesty program and start enforcing the law today,” Abbott said in a news release.

Of course, the problem here isn’t just prioritizing deportation of, as Obama constantly calls them, “the worst offenders’….let’s not forget that the illegal who cold-bloodedly murdered Kate Steinle was one of them, who was protected by liberal San Fransisco….it’s that, as Politico notes, giving “quasi-legal status and work permits to millions of illegal immigrants”. Stealth amnesty.

Hey, look, another one of Obama’s “worst offenders

Ramon Jaime Horta was deported from the United States six times, but still the Mexican national was somehow able to come back into the country and is now accused of a hit and run accident that left a man dead.

Horta (who was identified in some other reports as Ramon Horta-Jaime) was arrested this week and charged with killing Marcello Bisarello. Police said Hort did not have a valid license and was under the influence when he struck and killed the man in Santa Ana, then fled the scene.

He has multiple convictions for drug offenses, battery, and others. How did he end up back in the country?

University Of Missouri President Resigns, Yale Losing Their Minds

Two interesting stories

(Yahoo Sports) University of Missouri System President Tim Wolfe has resigned.

Wolfe announced his decision during a Board of Curators meeting on the Univeristy of Missouri-Columbia campus on Monday.

And

(Daily Caller) Last week, a real-life South Park episode somehow took place within the very prestigious confines of Yale University.

In the lead-up to Halloween, Yale Dean Burgwell Howard sent out an email requesting that students do not engage in “cultural appropriation” when it comes to costume choice. That message prompted a very mild rebuke from the Associate Master of Silliman College Erica Christakis.

If you’re not fully familiar with these two stories, I’d suggest taking a moment to read both links, maybe take a cruise around others for more detail. More from the Daily Caller article, which I read earlier in the morning

This safety argument has allowed these precious snowflake totalitarians to suppress speech on campus. Free speech means nothing to them when it comes at the price of exposing their fragile little minds to ideas they don’t like. Thanks to spineless administrators that rush to appease each and every need of designated minority groups, activists are able to get away with this inane rationale for censorship.

But, from the comments at the Yahoo Sports story

Universities have been encouraging and enabling this kind of behavior, its about time they have to deal with the little monsters they created!

That was my exact thought this morning. Institutions of higher learning were pushing the politically correct mentality and enforcing it way back in the 1990’s, getting more and more extreme each year. Now, they are reaping what they’ve sown.

SIerra Club: Thousands Of Economic Changes Needed To Fight “Climate Change”

The Associated Press’ Josh Lederman has an article out entitled With Keystone snub, Obama aims to lockdown climate legacy, up leverage in global climate talks, which includes this interesting tidbit

“To fight climate change effectively, we will need to make thousands of changes across our economy,” Michael Brune, the head of the Sierra Club, said in an interview. “We have gone through a period of increased climate denial, but now we’re in a place of dramatically increased acceptance of the need to act on climate.”

I wonder what kinds of changes those could be? They wouldn’t involve government dominance of citizens, private entities, energy sources, and economies, would they? It’s just so weird that the ‘climate change’ movement involves instituting Progressive (nice fascist) policies, wouldn’t you say?

Washington Post: Say, Why Do So Many Republicans Hate Ted Cruz?

I’m guessing this is meant to be a soft hit-piece on Senator Ted Cruz as he runs for President, but, it perfectly explains why he’s so popular with the Conservative base

A lot of people just don’t like Ted Cruz. How come that’s okay with him?

Ted Cruz has been branded a “wacko bird” by a Senate colleague and a “jackass” by the former speaker of the House. A GOP consultant labeled him a show horse, and a strategist for a rival presidential campaign called him the Mitt Romney of 2016 — the Republican no other Republican can stand.

“I just don’t like the guy,” former president George W. Bush, Cruz’s old boss, told supporters at a fundraiser for his brother Jeb Bush last month.

The list of GOP politicians and operatives willing to take open shots at Cruz has grown long: Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.), former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, former House speaker John A. Boehner (Ohio), Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (S.C.), fellow Texas Sen. John Cornyn, Sen. John Thune (S.D.), former senator Tom Coburn (Okla.) — and on and on.

Cruz does not appear to be bothered. The senator and presidential candidate seems to relish the fact that so many fellow Republicans love to hate him. On the trail, the Texas Republican fondly recounts his skirmishes. His campaign blasts out fundraising e-mails quoting the critical words. When Boehner called Cruz a jackass, his campaign’s solicitation quoted him as saying, “I will wear it as a badge of honor because I refuse to join their club.” A super PAC supporting Cruz released a radio spot Tuesday boasting that Boehner referred to Cruz as a “a pain in the you-know-what.”

It’s a long, long, long article, which doesn’t ever seem to actually reach out to Ted Cruz to find out “why”. Down lower in the article we read

To some supporters, Cruz’s skirmishes make the candidate more attractive.

“He’s hated by the political establishment,” said Chart Westcott, a Dallas biotech investor and Cruz donor. “He’s got that original outsider status, and that’s what I love and has made him attractive to so many swaths of Americans.”

And there’s one of your answer. He’s standing against the GOP establishment, which has consistently sold out the GOP voting base. They campaign on promises, then fail to keep them, sometimes not even bothering to attempt to keep them. Sometimes going against them. Ted Cruz stands on principle, and does his best to keep to those principles.

The article is an attempt to tell the casual voter just how much certain Republicans hate Ted Cruz. For the Conservative voters, it reinforces why we support Cruz, and why we dislike the GOP Establishment.

Cult Of Climastrology Ramping Up The Catastrophe Warnings Ahead Of Paris Meeting

Ah, Paris, the City Of Lights, the City Of Love, where 10,000 or so believers in pushing bigger and bigger centralized governmental control over everything along with more and more taxes man-caused climate change will take fossil fueled trips to socialize, eat lots of food, and discuss the Fate Of The World, quite a few of which will be paid for on the taxpayer dime. So, it’s time for more scaremongering

‘Catastrophe’ warnings as climate talks enter final stretch

Large swathes of New York and Shanghai could disappear under the waves and millions driven into poverty, fresh climate reports warned as ministers scrambled Monday for common ground weeks ahead of a crunch environmental summit.

If global warming continues on its present trajectory of 4 Celsius (7.2 Fahrenheit), rising sea levels will claim land inhabited by more than 600 million people, according to a survey by Climate Central, a US-based research group.

It’s taken over 160 years for the world’s temperature to rise a minuscule 1.4F. There’s been, at best, statistically insignificant warming over the last 12-26 years during the 3rd pause of the Modern Warm Period. Everything is consistent with a Holocene warm period. Except sea rise, which is below the level one should expect.

Such a rise would hit China the hardest, with around 145 million people living in coastal areas that would be submerged, the report warned.

Even if the Paris summit, which starts on November 30, succeeds in its goal of limiting temperature rises to 2 C, around 280 million people would find their homes underwater, forecast Climate Central.

Why yes, this is all about attempting to scare people about future doom in order to put more power and taxes in the hands of centralized government. They should switch these meetings to start on Halloween each year.

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, who is hosting the meeting, issued his own dire warnings as ministers gathered in the French capital for eleventh-hour negotiations.

“It is life on our planet itself which is at stake,” Fabius told journalists as ministers and climate envoys from 70 countries met for pre-summit talks to iron out tough political questions.

Life itself!!!!!! Doomed!!!! Yet, the carbon footprint for this meeting is humongous. Remember this one from the Club Of Rome?

“In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill….All these dangers are caused by human intervention….and thus the “real enemy, then, is humanity itself….believe humanity requires a common motivation, namely a common adversary in order to realize world government. It does not matter if this common enemy is “a real one or….one invented for the purpose.”

That was back in the 1970’s. And, of course, Progressives/Marxists/Socialists, along with the power hungry, immediately jumped on the bandwagon.

And, we will be treated to a plethora of CO2 concentration stories, such as

Earth-warming greenhouse gas concentrations hit record high in 2014: UN

….

WMO’s report, which does not measure emissions of greenhouse gases but rather their concentrations in the atmosphere, showed that CO2 had risen to 397.7 parts per million (ppm) in the atmosphere last year.

That was 143 percent of levels prior to the year 1750, WMO said, adding that CO2 concentrations would likely pass the ominous 400-ppm threshold in 2016.

Ominous. Is this journalism, or did Stephen King start writing climate change fables?

The rising CO2 concentrations are especially worrying, WMO said, since the gas in turn hikes levels of water vapour — itself a powerful, albeit short-lived, greenhouse gas.

This is because warmer air holds more moisture, the UN agency said, cautioning that “further increases in CO2 concentrations will lead to disproportionately high increases in thermal energy and warming from water vapour.”

Gotta love it. On one hand, they’re trying to say that water vapor, the #1 greenhouse gas, is a minimal GHG, but, on the other, it will be made worse because of CO2, an explicit way to link the two and bring water vapor under the banner of anthropogenic climate change. Of course, actual data disputes the increase in atmospheric water vapor.

Anyhow, that was the AFP. You have similar doom from CO2 stories by the AP and Reuters, among others, with lots and lots of news outlets picking up one of them.

If the science was so sound, there would be no reason for the dire stories of ominous doom. Of course, even if the science was sound, they’d still need the same scaremongering fables because of the policy prescriptions the Warmists are pushing to “solve” the issue.
