Warmists New Excuse For Great Pause: The Satellites Are Lying

There are now so many excuses for the Pause that Skeptics stopped keeping track. Here’s yet another, and it’s a doozy, via James Delingpole

The climate alarmists have come up with a brilliant new excuse to explain why there has been no “global warming” for nearly 19 years.

Turns out the satellite data is lying.

And to prove it they’ve come up with a glossy new video starring such entirely trustworthy and not at all biased climate experts as Michael “Hockey Stick” Mann , Kevin “Travesty” Trenberth and Ben Santer. (All of these paragons of scientific rectitude feature heavily in the Climategate emails)

The same people who are involved with altering ground level temperature data to conform to their Warmist talking points.

This (satellite) accuracy was acknowledged 25 years ago by NASA, which said that “satellite analysis of the upper atmosphere is more accurate, and should be adopted as the standard way to monitor temperature change.”

But, they are very upset over the satellites refusing to cooperate with their computer models of warming doom

More recently, though, climate alarmists have grown increasingly resentful of the satellite temperature record because of its pesky refusal to show the warming trend they’d like it to show. Instead of warming, the RSS and UAH satellite data shows that the earth’s temperatures have remained flat for over 18 years – the so-called “Pause.”

Hence the alarmists’ preference for the land- and sea-based temperature datasets whichdo show a warming trend – especially after the raw data has been adjusted in the right direction. Climate realists, however, counter that these records have all the integrity of Enron’s accounting system or of Hillary’s word on what really happened in Benghazi.

Unfortunately for the Cult of Climastrology members, the balloon atmosphere data agrees with the satellite data. Bummer. And, as John Christy points out

I’m impressed someone went to so much trouble and expense.  The “satellite data” must be a real problem for someone. Do we know who financed this video?

Yes, they do. A smattering of the typical far, far left Progressive (nice fascist) people and groups. The video is about pushing political policy, not science.

Obama Tackles The Tough Issues In Youtube Interviews, Like Why Tampons Are Taxed

An unserious president talking with unserious liberals on mostly unserious subjects

(Breitbart) Obama hosted a series of interviews with YouTube personalities this afternoon, including one interview with Ingrid Nilsen, a woman who asked why tampons and pads for women were frequently taxed as a “luxury goods” in nearly 40 states.

“I don’t know anyone who has a period that thinks it’s a luxury,” Nilsen said. “It’s something that’s part of our everyday lives and is really crucial to our health as women.”

Obama chuckled. “I think that’s fair to say – Michelle would agree with you on that,” he said.

Obama said he had “no idea” why states would tax menstrual products.

“I suspect that it’s because men were making the laws when those taxes were passed.” he added.

I suspect it was simply because most goods are sales taxed in most states, but, hey, this is Liberal World, don’t expect rationality. These are people who demand higher taxes on everything, yet, want an exception for their pet causes, such as the “tampon tax”. As the link in the article notes

Tampons, however, are rarely considered a necessity by state governments, and most states do not allow exemptions for them (nor do they even list them in their tax codes). Yet as every woman who has ever gotten her period knows, feminine hygiene products are not a choice; they’re a required part of being a woman. And the costs for these products can add up.

Do you know what else is a necessity? Food. Yet, most states charge a sales tax for the purchase of…..food. So is soap, hair products, and deodorant. And clothing. Shoes.

Guess what else is expensive and require sales tax to purchase: shaving razors. Why should Men have to pay a world ending average sales tax of 5.45% on a product that is not a choice within the working world?

Funny thing is, if feminine hygiene products where excused from being taxed, Liberals would then complain about the reduction in the state coffers from sales tax.

Ted Cruz Apologizes For “NY Values” Comment

But not in the way you thing

(CBS NY) Amid heat from both sides of the aisle following his comments about “New York values” during Thursday night’s Republican presidential debate. Ted Cruz issued an apology – but not for his remarks. (snip)

“You’re right. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton and Andrew Cuomo and Bill de Blasio have all demanded an apology, and I’m happy to apologize. I apologize to the millions of New Yorkers that have been let down by liberal politicians in that state,” Cruz said.

People are learning just how brilliant Cruz actually is, and why he was a national debate champion while at Princeton, much less a successful lawyer. Donald Trump should probably have thought twice before going Birther on Cruz.

Cruz then attacked Cuomo’s policies, including the governor’s stance against hydraulic fracturing for natural gas, and in favor of same-sex marriage rights, abortion rights and gun control.

Remember, Cuomo said of Conservatives who are pro-life and pro-2nd Amendment back in 2014 “They have no place in the state of New York, because that’s not who New Yorkers are.”

Cruz went on to attack Mayor de Blasio for a variety of policies and controversies, including the mayor’s stance in favor of limiting charter schools.

“I apologize to all of the African-American children, whom Mayor de Blasio tried to throw out of their charter schools that were providing a lifeline to the American dream,” he said.

“I apologize to all the cops, and the firefighters and 9/11 heroes who had no choice but to stand and turn their backs on Mayor de Blasio, because Mayor de Blasio over and over again stands with the looters and criminals rather than the brave men and women in blue,” Cruz said.

Mr. Cruz is not particularly concerned with New York City as a voting base, despite sending out a fundraising email to get money out of the NYC Republicans. He knows the city is going to vote Democrat, as it always does. He can’t lose what he never had. But, he might make a bit of a dent in the support the Independents throw towards Democrats, as he gets them to think about the policies supported by Democrats. And, this will apply to other major Democratic Party run cities across the country. He could pick off Independents and Blue Dog Democrats if he makes it to the General Election, which gives him a better chance of winning close states.

Todd Starnes writes of NY Values

He was referring to the permissive New York values celebrating public debauchery that would make the citizens of Sodom and Gomorrah blush. Just ask the families from the Heartland who’ve been accosted by topless women in Times Square.

Remember Occupy Wall Street — turning public parks into human cesspools – people defecating on police cars? He was talking about those values, too.

Along with the values that propelled citizens into the streets to justify violence against police officers.

Senator Cruz was talking about the values that banned churches from public spaces and relegated Christians to second class citizens.

As he also points out, these same Democrats in their big cities refer to the rest of the country as “flyover country”, which is not said as a compliment. They referred to the areas that voted for George W. Bush as Dumbf*ckistan and Jesusland, among others. I don’t remember any of the news media having a conniption fit over that. Do you?

Hotcoldwetdry Biggest Threat To Global Economy In 2016 Or Something

In other words, they’re worried about the weather

(UK Guardian) A catastrophe caused by climate change is seen as the biggest potential threat to the global economy in 2016, according to a survey of 750 experts conducted by the World Economic Forum.

The annual assessment of risks conducted by the WEF before its annual meeting in Davos on 20-23 January showed that global warming had catapulted its way to the top of the list of concerns.

A failure of climate change mitigation and adaptation was seen as likely to have a bigger impact than the spread of weapons of mass destruction, water crises, mass involuntary migration and a severe energy price shock – the first time in the 11 years of the Global Risks report that the environment has been in first place.

The worst! Oh, wait

When asked which risk was most likely to materialise in 2016, respondents chose large-scale involuntary migration. This follows last year’s refugee crisis, in which hundreds of thousands of people arrived in Europe fleeing conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa.

This was followed by extreme weather events, climate change, interstate conflict with regional consequences, and major natural catastrophes.

So, climate change wasn’t #1? How is it that the same author writes that it is the biggest threat in the first paragraph, then says the biggest threat is “involuntary migration”?

Paul Homewood finds a few things that are a bit more worrisome than the weather.

New Excuse: US Navy Boats “Drifted Off Course”

The Obama administration will say anything to protect their Iranian buddies. Powerline noted the other day that the US, really, the Obama administration, had been humiliated badly. Today we get

(CNN)  Defense Secretary Ash Carter said that a mistake in navigation was the reason U.S. sailors entered Iranian waters earlier this week.

“I think that this much is clear, there was a navigational error of some kind,” he said at a press conference on Thursday. “All the contributing factors to that we don’t know yet, and we’re still talking to those folks, and we’ll find out more … but they were clearly out of the position that they intended to be in.”

The two U.S. Navy boats seized by Iran with 10 sailors on board were within three miles of Iran’s Farsi Island when the Iranians took them, according to a U.S. defense official directly familiar with the latest information about the incident.

The boats had drifted off course, but one was also suffering engine trouble, making it impossible for the Americans to rapidly back off and return to international waters when they were approached by armed Iranian naval boats, the official said.

I bet you didn’t know that it was a friendly gesture to commandeer foreign flagged vessels, then make the sailors kneel with their hands on their heads, and force a female sailor to comply with Sharia and put a hijab on.

https://twitter.com/NoahCRothman/status/687290811898269697

I’ll repeat what I said the other day: how does this just happen to two US Navy vessels? If one was having mechanical issues, was there a call made to another US Navy vessel? Did the navigational aids for both vessels just happen to happen? Did the sailors in charge of positioning on both boats just happen to mess up? Did no one on the other US Navy vessels in the area fail to note that these vessels, surely being tracked by the bigger boats, were out of position?

One of the boats began to have its engine “run roughly” during the transit from Kuwait to Bahrain, according to the details of what the crew has said. It’s not yet clear at what point they drifted off course, or if they even understood they were off course. It’s not believed the engine trouble was the cause of going off course.

And then they apparently missed a check-in call. Again, one would think that, if there was a mechanical issue, the boat commander would place a comm to one of their superiors on a larger naval vessel. It just doesn’t pass the smell test, unless the smell is the odor of covering Team Obama’s posterior to defend Iran.

(Powerline) IBD quotes Christopher Harmer, retired operations commander for the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. Harmer told CNN there was “no reason for a small vessel to be out that far and especially without escorting ships around it,” and “the Navy has to explain why you have small ships transiting 300 miles of open ocean.”

These weren’t some old style boats, but state of the art, highly advanced Combat Boat 90’s. There are too many questions, and not enough answers, and liberals have to admit that if this happened under a Republican president they’d be asking these same questions.

Judge Deals Blow To Warmists On Trial For Blocking Oil Train

Thursday I mentioned a bunch of fools who are on trial for blocking an oil train in Washington, charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors, who planned on using ‘climate change’ as a defense. Later in the day, the judge in the case dealt that idiocy a serious blow

(Quartz) A jury in Washington state is hearing the final arguments today (Jan. 14) in a huge case for the environmental movement. Five activists have been charged with criminal trespassing for blocking a train full of crude oil.

The judge initially allowed the so-called “Delta Five” to use a so-called “necessity defense,” which argued that their criminal actions were justified by the threat of climate change. It is the first such case in the United States, and environmentalists were hoping for a precedent-setting breakthrough.

However, in a last-minute decision, the judge instructed the jury not to take the “necessity defense” argument into consideration, seriously undermining their prospects.

Too bad, so sad. It would have been interesting to see which way the jury jumped during deliberation.

https://twitter.com/dechristopher/status/687754242220658688

Who are these people?

The “Delta Five” group includes a middle school teacher, a coffee shop owner, and a professional activist. They constructed a massive, 18-foot tripod in front of a parked oil train in Everrett, Washington in September 2014 to block oil trains passing through the state. They were arrested and charged with criminal trespassing and obstructing a train.

What the heck is a “professional activist”? First World Problem.

The train was carrying Bakken shale oil from Montana and North Dakota—a highly explosive substance, which killed 47 people in an explosion after a train derailed in Quebec in 2013. Washington state officials are considering six new oil transport facilities to make the region a bigger player in fossil fuel transport.

Instead of claiming “climate change’, they should have done it for the danger these trains pose to explode. They might have found some sympathy from non-climate change believing people, and the judge may have allowed it at the end. The law is the law, though, and if one is going to break it to “protest”, one must be ready for the consequences, which could include a few years in jail.

The protest was specifically designed to set a precedent for civil disobedience cases related to the environmental movement, according to activist Tim DeChristopher. In an interview with the Guardian, he compared the legal tactic to the similar efforts by the civil rights and women’s suffrage movements.

Trump Learns That Tangling With Ted Cruz Is A Dangerous Decision

People may think of Ted Cruz as just some Texas hick, an ultra-Conservative firebrand with no brain, but they forget he’s a national college debate champion while at Princeton. Check out his resume. And he’s more than able to take on Donald Trump’s bluster

(Bloomberg) During a lengthy and heated back-and-forth at Thursday’s Republican presidential debate in North Charleston, South Carolina, Donald Trump admitted that he’s bringing up U.S. Senator Ted Cruz’s Canadian birthplace “because now he’s doing a little bit better” in the polls, and insisted that Cruz receive a judgment from the courts because it would be bad for Republicans to have the issue hanging over their presidential nominee.

The Texas senator chuckled when asked to respond to Trump’s taunts that he may be ineligible to be president of the U.S. Then he swatted them away deftly. Trump, on the other end of the exchange, faced many boos from the crowd.

“I’m glad we’re focusing on the important topics this evening,” said Cruz, who was born in Canada to an American mother and has been a U.S. citizen since birth. He noted that Trump said last year he’s a natural born citizen.

“I don’t care. I think I’m gonna win fair and square. I don’t have to win this way,” Trump said.

Donald was sounding a bit petulant. The bigger one was the New York Values spat

“Everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal … focused around money and the media,” Cruz charged. And in a nod to Trump’s home in midtown Manhattan, Cruz said: “I can frame it another way: Not a lot of conservatives come out of Manhattan. I’m just saying.”

Just as Cruz was ready to dismiss concerns about his Canadian birth, Trump was ready to defend New York.

The real-estate mogul said he found that kind of talk “insulting.” And he seemed to show his softer side while reflecting on how New Yorkers came together after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. “Everybody in the world watched, and everyone in the world loved New York and loved New Yorkers,” he said. “That was a very insulting statement that Ted made.”

If you’re going to tangle with Ted Cruz, be prepared for a rational, reasonable response. In this case, he made Donald whine about it being an “insulting statement”.

Meanwhile, there were discussions on other topics, rather than the back and forth squabbling. Hillary loomed large

The former secretary of state was mentioned often by all of the candidates, and the attacks were often in the form of one-liners.

“She’s under investigation with the FBI right now,” Bush said, adding that the country should avoid a situation with a president who “might be going back and forth between the White House and the courthouse.”

Rubio was much more serious when he said Clinton is “disqualified from being president of the United States” because she “mishandled” intelligence, a reference to her use of a personal email account and server rather than a government account while at the State Department. He also accused her of telling “lies” to the families of victims in the attack on the U.S. outpost in Benghazi.

During the rest of the debate, there were some other topics, such as shutting down Muslims coming in to the country, Chinese trade, immigration, and trade overall. A lot, though, was silly squabbles. It makes for interesting TV, but, are we really learning anything?

Shockingly, Only 28% Trust Los Federales To Enforce Gun Laws Fairly

Yet another bad poll for anti-2nd Amendment nuts, and the 28% thing is not even the worst part

(Rasmussen) Supporters of additional gun control generally consider the National Rifle Association their biggest problem, but voter distrust of the federal government remains a big hurdle for them to clear.

Just 28% of American Adults trust the federal government to fairly enforce gun control laws. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 59% don’t trust the government when it comes to administering these laws. Thirteen percent (13%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

I wonder what would possibly give citizens the idea that the federal government is less than trustworthy? The fact that no one was punished for Operation Fast and Furious, and that Team Obama stonewalled for years, and we still do not know all the details, might be one clue.

But just one-in-three Americans (32%) now think stricter gun control laws will decrease violent crime, down eight points from 40% in the 2013 survey. Fifteen percent (15%) say tougher anti-gun laws will increase violent crime, while 47% say they will have no impact.

Huh. So, the majority think more gun laws on law abiding citizens won’t actually reduce violent crimes. Which are already illegal.

Seventy-six percent (76%) of Republicans and 59% of those not affiliated with either major party do not trust the federal government to fairly administer gun control laws. Democrats, however, are evenly divided on the question. Most Republicans (57%) and unaffiliateds (52%) say stricter gun laws will have no effect on violent crime, but 52% of Democrats think they will reduce such crime.

So, even the best Democrats can do with the question “Do you trust the government to fairly enforce gun control laws?” is 50%. This spreading awareness and angry man campaign by Obama and the Dems doesn’t seem to be working out too well. Which makes an article like this by Rebecca Leber at the New Republic even funnier

Gun Control Can Swing the 2016 Election

Gun violence was always going to play a bigger role in 2016 than it has in any election in recent memory simply because of its sheer, in-your-face relevance: The nation can’t seem to go a week without a horrific shooting. But now that President Obama has taken action to bolster background checks and come out swinging against the National Rifle Association, joined by the leading Democratic presidential contenders, gun control has the potential to be the deciding issue of 2016. And it’s Democrats, for a change, who stand to benefit.

Yet, virtually every single poll goes against the gun grabby policies of Democrats. I suggest they make this a big theme, see how far it takes them. If they were willing to offer real common sense solutions, it would work well. But, since most do not trust the government, and most understand that if you give Democrats and inch they’ll take way more than the proverbial mile, it won’t help them except with their own hardcore base.
