Obama Uses Speech At Dallas Memorial To Talk About Himself

Unsurprisingly, Obama used the memorial for a murdered Dallas police officer to get all sorts of political. He yammered on about racism, blaming Other People. He yammered on about gun control, even saying it was easier to get a Glock than a book. He took shots at the police. As Charles Cooke noted

This, remember, was a funeral — a funeral for one of the police officers who was murdered last Thursday. It wasn’t a rally. It wasn’t a White House press conference. It wasn’t a public statement, hastily arranged on the airport tarmac. It was a funeral. Presumably, those attending had all sorts of political opinions. Presumably, some of the cops were Republicans. Presumably, there was some serious disagreement in that room as to how the country should move forward. Wouldn’t it have been better to wait until the proceedings were over to call for change? Wouldn’t it have been more politically effective for the president to have made his push somewhere else?

Yes, it would

(Daily Caller) President Obama referred to himself 45 times over the course of the speech he delivered Tuesday at the memorial service for the five police officers killed in Dallas last week.

Obama would refer to himself 43 more times throughout the speech — most of which he personally wrote, according to the LA Times — including one instance where he referred to himself in the third-person: “the president.”

You can read the whole thing at Time. Then we have this

https://twitter.com/WilliamTeach/status/753030812975656961

It’s a tale of two speeches. Say what you will about George W. Bush, the man has a sense of propriety, understanding the situation he’s in, and while Obama was preachy and looked down his nose at people, yammering about himself, Bush was gracious, offering empathy, sympathy, and talked about people coming together. He mentioned the slain police officers almost immediately

At times, it seems like the forces pulling us apart are stronger than the forces binding us together. Argument turns too easily into animosity. Disagreement escalates too quickly into dehumanization. Too often we judge other groups by their worst examples, while judging ourselves by our best intentions. (Applause.) And this has strained our bonds of understanding and common purpose.

But Americans, I think, have a great advantage. To renew our unity, we only need to remember our values. We have never been held together by blood or background. We are bound by things of the spirit – by shared commitments to common ideals.

At our best, we practice empathy, imagining ourselves in the lives and circumstances of others. This is the bridge across our nation’s deepest divisions. And it is not merely a matter of tolerance, but of learning from the struggles and stories of our fellow citizens, and finding our better selves in the process.

At our best, we honor the image of God we see in one another. We recognize that we are brothers and sisters, sharing the same brief moment on earth, and owing each other the loyalty of our shared humanity.

President Bush continued on in that vein for a bit longer, before ending with

Today, all of us feel a sense of loss – but not equally. I’d like to conclude with a word to the families, the spouses, and especially the children of the fallen. Your loved one’s time with you was too short, and they did not get the chance to properly say goodbye. But they went where duty called. They defended us, even to the end. They finished well. We will not forget what they did for us.

Your loss is unfair. We cannot explain it. We can stand beside you and share your grief. And we can pray that God will comfort you with a hope deeper than sorrow and stronger than death.

May God bless you.

He understood that this was a memorial, not a political rally, and he talked to and with the people in attendance, not at them like someone else.

Police Offer Lots Of Suggestions For Pokemon GO Players

Are you part of the Pokemon GO craze? On the bright side, the game has done more to get kids off the couch than 7 years of Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” push. These things are showing up everywhere. People are walking all over my workplace looking for them (I caught people making an arm motion like they were throwing something at me twice yesterday), and I saw a bunch looking at their phones walking around the golf course. They didn’t have clubs. Heck, even the US Marines noticed them.

But, see, there’s a bit of a problem, because we’re getting things like this

As many have noted, it’s a shame that people have to actually be told this. Here in the Triangle, both the Wake Forest and Apex police departments are concerned

(WTVD) Local law enforcement are warning of the real dangers associated with a virtual gaming app that’s sweeping the nation.

Pokemon Go, the free app that allows users to superimpose a digital world onto the real one while catching animated Pokemon characters, launched this week.

In parts of the country, police have responded to assaults and robberies due to unsuspecting gamers being lured into the path of criminals.

In Apex, police have responded to six calls in three days about reports of a suspicious person or someone trespassing. Incident reports show groups of people are being spotted lurking in front of businesses after hours and even people’s backyards late at night.

The Wake Forest PD offered a list of advice

  • Watch out for your surroundings: Look up and be aware of who is around you;
  • Parents, limit places kids can go: Set boundaries to avoid stranger danger for kids who are unattended;
  • Don’t Pokemon Go and drive: Catching Pikachu isn’t worth crashing;
  • Tell people where you’re going if it is somewhere you’ve never been;
  • Don’t trespass: People might call the police if you enter private property and hunting for Pokemon and other virtual characters is no excuse;
  • If you are stopped by police: Show them you are playing a game;
  • Parents – tell your kids about stranger-danger. The way that the game is designed can bring people together in the real world as they search for Pokemon in common areas called “gyms” and “pokestops.” Obviously, you never know who you could run into while playing.
  • And as always, if you run into an individual that is seemingly up to no good – don’t hesitate to dial 911!

Like with the Holocaust Museum and Arlington Cemetery, did we really need to be told this? Apparently so. Heck, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office actually had to explain what to do when there’s a stopped school bus.

Overall, though, Pokemon GO seems to be a pretty good game for *ssssshhhh don’t tell them* getting people up and about. I don’t play it myself, not the type of game that interests me, but, people are having fun. They just need to be careful.

Mussels Will Be Off The Menu In 85 Years Or Something

Yet another future prognostication of doom from the Cult of Climastrology

(Telegraph)  Moules-frites and moules mariniere will be largely consigned to the pages of culinary history by the end of the century, scientists have predicted.

The increasing acidity of the oceans due to climate change means that farming or fishing for mussels will be commercially unviable by 2100.

Researchers at Washington University in Seattle have established that a mussel’s ability to grip to a rock or rope is dependent on the acidity of the surrounding sea. (snip)

Prof Emily Carrington, one of the lead researchers, carried out tests which revealed that increased acidity, or lower pH, substantially weakened a mussel’s ability to adhere a surface.

She predicts that within 85 years the acidity of the coastal regions where mussels currently thrive will pass a threshold beyond which nearly half will be unable to cling on long enough to be farmed.

Uh huh. Of course, there are numerous studies that show that an increase in CO2 is causing the oceans to become more neutral, not acidic. And there is variability within the PH range all the time, due to temperature, which, shockingly, fluctuates during the seasons.

She said there would be no gradual increase in mortality, however, with the shellfish clinging on until the sea reached the 7.6pH level. “Things will get really bad all of a sudden,” she said.

Got that? We won’t notice till suddenly doom. Way in the future. When no one will remember the prognostication. This is all about scaring people while pretending to use science.

Fossil Fuels Using Dems Target Skeptic Groups And Senators

You can bet the ranch on the fact that every Democrat in the Senate uses vast amounts of fossil fuels to get from their state to Washington, D.C. And you can bet that most of them travel in fossil fueled vehicles daily to get to work both in D.C. and when they’re back in their home states. Plus all the fossil fuels usage for personal travel. They all certainly have big carbon footprints. Yet

(Daily Caller)  Democratic senators were told to target and scorn conservative nonprofit groups Monday and Tuesday for opposing Democratic policies addressing man-made global warming, internal emails indicate.

Rhode Island Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, a Democrat, has directed 19 of his fellow Democratic senators to attack conservative and libertarian organizations such as Americans for Prosperity and the Cato Institute on the chamber floors for engaging in what the senators call a “web of denial.”

Whitehouse and Democratic Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid – according to an internal email circulated by Emily Enderle, a top environmental policy adviser to Whitehouse, who is leading the hit parade – have created a senate schedule for Monday and Tuesday, requesting the senators lambaste the groups assigned to them.

Here’s part of that document

It’s rather disturbing that elected federal officials will use their lofty perches to assault private organizations they disagree with on matters of policy (because it’s not a science).

“It’s unbelievable the level of coordination the Senate Democrats have taken to political intimidate free market organizations,” Molly Drenkard, a spokeswoman with the American Legislative Economic Exchange (ALEC), told The Daily Caller News Foundation. ALEC is one of the conservative groups targeted by the senators.

She added: “Any person or organization—left, right, or nonpartisan—should be concerned when elected officials try to actively stifle free speech. This is clearly the next step in the attorneys general subpoena intimidation campaign.”

Any Warmists/Democrats who are OK with this anti-First Amendment abuse should consider how they would feel if Republicans were going after Democrat leaning private groups.

And every one of these groups and Senators should reply back in asking if the Democrats have given up their own use of fossil fuels and made their lives carbon neutral.

Good Grief: Democrat Corrine Brown Claims Persecution Because She’s Black

She also manages to compare her ordeal to the recent tragedies

(Daily Caller) Rep. Corrine Brown, a Democratic congresswoman currently facing a bevy of corruption charges, claimed Monday that she is being persecuted by malicious prosecutors and likened her ordeal to the murder of police in Dallas.

Brown was indicted last week on a host of fraud charges that could send her to prison for years. She is accused of helping create a bogus charity, which raised over $800,000 for the ostensible purpose of funding scholarships. Brown and her chief of staff are accused of using the money as a personal piggy bank, repeatedly redirecting it to Brown’s own bank accounts so she could pay off back taxes or pay for events honoring herself. Meanwhile, just $1,200 in scholarships were awarded.

Here’s her open letter

Friends,

Last week was very rough.

Two black men were needlessly gunned down by police; 5 Dallas police officers were slain by a demented man, and on Friday I had to appear in federal court.

Yes, she actually compared going to court to face charges to those other incidents.

My heart is heavy, but my spirit remains unbroken. Being indicted is very scary. Yet my conscience is clear because I’m innocent. I’m not the first black elected official to be persecuted and, sad to say, I won’t be the last.

“Persecuted.” Because she’s Black. And people wonder why racial divisions are getting worse when you have a politian caught with her hand in the cookie jar claiming she’s being persecuted because she’s Black. Back to the Daily Caller

It’s not the only bizarre claim Brown has made about her indictment. In a recent statement to reporters, she suggested that federal officials may have been able to halt the Orlando nightclub shooting if they hadn’t been investigating her.

Remember, Democrats like Brown tend to blast law enforcement when they investigate Muslims who’ve had contact with Muslim extremists.

But, come on, Corrine, woman up. Take your medicine. If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.

Obama’s Traveling To Dallas To Bridge Racial Divides Or Something

Everyone who thinks this speech will be condescending, lecturing, and scolding, and tell us WE need to do better, plus, oh, yeah, pass more gun control laws so shootings in Democratic Party controlled cities with tons of gun control see less shootings, raise your hand

Obama, Traveling to Dallas, Seeks to Console and Reassure

President Obama will travel to Dallas on Tuesday to mourn the deaths of five white police officers gunned down by a black Army veteran, his latest effort to help bridge one of the starkest divides in American society.

He huddled with his speechwriters for much of Monday, hoping to find words that would not only console the officers’ grief-stricken families but also reassure a nation fearful that racial divisions are worsening after the Dallas slaughter and the killing days before of black men by the police in Louisiana and Minnesota.

It’s interesting how those racial divisions have gotten so much worse under Mr. Obama. And, really, having Obama speak has a high chance of simply adding fuel to the fire.

Mr. Obama approached the effort with the frustration of a man who has poured his heart and soul into similar speeches, only to later feel that nothing has changed and no one is listening. This will be the 11th time in his presidency that he has sought to comfort a city after a mass killing, and the second time in a month that such a killing grew out of bias.

Is this a front page news story or a thinly veiled opinion piece, because it sure reads like the latter. If anything, he should be frustrated mostly with Black people in Democratic Party run cities, who are killing themselves off willy nilly. Heck, five Blacks were shot by another Black in Baltimore during a candlelight vigil for another Black man killed yesterday.

Meanwhile, the family of Kate Steinle is still waiting for a call, being that their daughter/sister was murdered by an 5 time deported illegal alien convicted of multiple felonies, who shot her with a gun stolen from a federal agent in a sanctuary city.

Former President George W. Bush, who lives in Dallas, will also speak at Tuesday’s memorial, a rare event in his post-presidency. While in office, Mr. Bush faced his own set of problems with the nation’s racial divisions.

It will be an interesting contrast in speeches. Say what you will about GWB, the man can give a good speech that shows that he cares, that he understands, that he empathizes, much like Bill Clinton was always able to do. He attempts healing and to erase divisions. Mr. Obama stokes them from his lofty perch, looking down his nose at everyone for “failing him.”

In every speech on policing and race, Mr. Obama has tried to strike a balance, acknowledging bias in the criminal justice system but saying that it is not an indictment of all police officers.

Let’s be real: there may be biases in the criminal justice system, and with some police officers. But, we need to ask why that is. Might it have more to do with the conduct of the Black community than the system and the police? Might they be the cause? And, might the treatment of Blacks by the Democrat Party in their cities make the situation worse? Yes.

Hotcoldwetdry Causing Clouds To Shift Towards The Poles Or Something

Obviously, the only cause of this must be Mankind’s carbon pollution output. And it’s totally ominous

Global Cloud Coverage Shifting in Ominous Sign of Climate Change

When politicians talk of climate “uncertainty,” they’re often casting doubt on things that are well understood: Warming is happening, and humans are responsible.

When scientists talk about climate uncertainty, they’re usually talking about the clouds.

Actually, they’re usually talking about computer models. And doom

Some of that uncertainty was lifted Monday, and the news isn’t good. A new study inNature analyzes almost 30 years of weather observations to show that clouds and cloudiness are changing in the way scientists would expect in a warming world. Continental storm tracks—think jet stream—are shifting poleward, leaving populous subtropical latitudes uncovered. And the clouds that are forming more often aren’t the low-lying, reflective ones that cool the planet—they’re the huge cottony anvils that rise high in the sky, trapping more heat.

“Cloud changes most consistently predicted by global climate models are currently occurring in nature,” the authors write. “As cloud tops rise, their greenhouse effect becomes stronger.”

Yeah, it’s rather easy to say “we looked back, and our models totally agree with what happened.” Of course, none of this proves anthropogenic causation, that the changes are mostly or solely caused by Mankind.

The corrected data should help improve their confidence in cloud studies..

In other words, changed to match the preconception. Not. Science. Cult.

Thank Goodness, We Now Know How To Properly Indoctrinate Kids On ‘Climate Change’

This is so they aren’t turned into terrified emotional wrecks

How to Teach Climate Change Without Terrifying Your Students

After a year in Bertha Vasquez’s class at George Washington Carver Middle School, 13-year-old Penny Richards says she reads climate news while she rides the bus to school.

Richards and 20-odd seventh graders sit transfixed as Vasquez tries to tease out the difference between the greenhouse effect and global warming by tossing out absurd half-truths. “Carbon dioxide’s completely harmless,” Vasquez says. Should we ban Coca Cola because of the carbonation?

Penny’s hand shoots up. “The greenhouse effect”—which keeps our planet warm enough for life to survive—”is completely natural,” she counters. “With mining fossil fuels, you’re taking something out of the ground and putting it into the atmosphere.”

These days, big questions about energy use and ecological balance punctuate Vasquez’s classes throughout the year. Her students meet climate scientists and calculate how many desalination plants it would take to turn rising seas into a sustainable source of fresh water (too many).

There are a couple layers here. First, schools seem to be wasting a lot of time on this kind of claptrap, working to indoctrinate fragile minds, and often making them emotional wrecks. What they are not teaching them are the basics of how to get a good job, how to think critically, understanding math, English, science.

But, there’s another layer here which occurred to me, other than the Hotcoldwetdry thing: can we really hold most Special Snowflakes responsible for being Special Snowflakes? It seems they are being taught to be annoying, entitled, special wackjobs by adults, including in schools. They are being taught this spreading awareness and we’re doomed stuff. Is it any wonder that so many kids and young adults are so nutty? It doesn’t just happen overnight. Adults, including teachers, are creating future adults who will be unemployable and unproductive in adult society. It’s child abuse.
