Despite some attempts to pin some blame on Senate Republicans for the stalemate in the Senate over the confirmation of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, the Washington Post Editorial Board ends up pinning this on Democrats
The Senate is on the brink of an historic mistake
THE STANDOFF over Judge Neil Gorsuch’s Supreme Court nomination is the latest episode in a years-long cycle of political retribution that has diminished the Senate and harmed the country. It nevertheless represents a depressing new low. Senator after senator acknowledges that the body is about to make a historic mistake, setting precedent and changing procedures in a way that will, over time, erode the quality of both the Senate and the judiciary. But few seem interested in defusing the dispute.
Democrats are preparing to filibuster a well-qualified judge, marking the first time a partisan filibuster has been mounted against a high court nominee. In response, Republicans are preparing to change the rules and eliminate the filibuster on Supreme Court nominees, ending the minority party’s ability to demand meaningful consultation on presidential appointments to any major office (since Democrats, when they were in the majority, had already abolished the filibuster for other nominations). The Senate’s 52 Republicans cannot overcome a filibuster of Mr. Gorsuch without the help of eight Democrats. But they can permanently change Senate rules by simple majority vote.
Obviously, the Democrats are using the excuse of Republicans blocking Obama’s pick, Merrick Garland. The Washington Post EB mentions this, but, forgets to mention the Biden Rule, which is about there being different standards for judicial nominees during election years.
Anger about the majority leader’s cynical power play may be clouding Democrats’ judgment, even about their own tactical interests. They have tried to paint Mr. Gorsuch as unacceptably radical, despite the fact that former Obama administration officials, the American Bar Association and many others have deemed him well-qualified to serve. Moreover, postponing the discussion over abolishing the filibuster until Mr. Trump’s next nomination, if any, would put Democrats in a stronger position and at least might pressure the president to select a more reasonable nominee next time than he otherwise might.
In other words, Democrats should be less obstructive, and stop acting like pouty children. I’m listening to Senator Sheldon Whitehouse whine about needing a court that calls balls and strikes, yet, he, like so many Democrats, voted for Obama’s far left activist Supreme Court judges. And Lindsay Graham makes a good point
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said that in the case of a Democratic filibuster to Judge Neil Gorsuch’s nomination he was “going to vote to change the rules because I’m not going to be a part of a Senate where Democrats get their judges and a Republican can never get theirs, that’s not what it’s all about.â€
Obama appointed activists Sonia Sotomayer and Elana Kagan. In both cases, Republicans allowed the final vote for their confirmation, despite knowing that Obama was looking for activist judges, per his own words during the 2008 campaign season. Republicans usually give in. Partly because that’s what the elected ones do. And it’s part of Senate tradition.
And we shouldn’t forget about Harry Reid invoking the nuclear option for lower court judges. There were few complaints from liberals and the Washington Post about that. The same WPEB is now trying to tell Republicans that what comes around goes around. True.
Likewise, what Democrats did can turn around and bite them in delicate parts.

But, hey, remember, this wasn’t political
(Bloomberg)  White House lawyers last month learned that the former national security adviser Susan Rice requested the identities of U.S. persons in raw intelligence reports on dozens of occasions that connect to the Donald Trump transition and campaign, according to U.S. officials familiar with the matter.
The pattern of Rice’s requests was discovered in a National Security Council review of the government’s policy on “unmasking” the identities of individuals in the U.S. who are not targets of electronic eavesdropping, but whose communications are collected incidentally. Normally those names are redacted from summaries of monitored conversations and appear in reports as something like “U.S. Person One.”
The National Security Council’s senior director for intelligence, Ezra Cohen-Watnick, was conducting the review, according to two U.S. officials who spoke with Bloomberg View on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss it publicly. In February Cohen-Watnick discovered Rice’s multiple requests to unmask U.S. persons in intelligence reports that related to Trump transition activities. He brought this to the attention of the White House General Counsel’s office, who reviewed more of Rice’s requests and instructed him to end his own research into the unmasking policy.
For all the caterwauling from Democrats about Russia Russia Russia, they have no actual evidence. Even after trying these shenanigans, they still have no evidence. Here’s what they do potentially have
(Powerline)Â In any event, if Rice and others conspired to leak confidential information or publicly disclose information about individuals like General Flynn, it would be a crime.
That crime would be a felony. A big one. And, as many are thinking, would Rice do this without orders? Orders from Obama? There’s almost zero chance that Obama would put anything in writing or in any manner he could be implicated. Give the man credit, he’s slick, and unaccountable.
An interesting part to this whole thing is that it was Mike Cernovich, a guy called Fake News by 60 Minutes, who scooped everyone on this.
This is also funny
[I]t’s safe to say that there was absolutely no collusion of any kind between Team Trump and anyone Russian. None. How do I know this to a near certainty? Because we haven’t seen anybody leak any evidence of any in the six-plus months that they’ve been pushing this nonsense.
And they most certainly won’t find anything in the future. But, hey, it’s a great way to drive a wedge between Americans, fundraise, and be their typical apoplectic selves.

If you saw a bunch of lovely purple blooms across the landscape, what would you think? The majesty of nature? Maybe pull out the smartphone for a picture of an awesome landscape? If you’re a Warmist, your first thought is that people should be taxed to stop this
Purple Blooms Across Kentucky Fields Likely a Sign of Climate Change
Purple flowers across many fields in Kentucky and Indiana are more than flowering weeds. An agriculture extension agent says those purple blooms are a sign of climate change and the increasingly unpredictable weather that farmers have to deal with.
Jon Neufelder is an educator with the Purdue University Extension Office in Posey County, Indiana. He said the flowers are purple deadnettle and henbit and they’re a sign of a warm winter and an early spring.
That’s never ever happened before, you guys. And doom!
“I think the research and the science is real, that there is climate change and we’re experiencing it with these extremes in weather. I thinks the facts are that we’re getting earlier and earlier in our planting season and our growing season is expanding. We’ve got a longer window from spring ’til even late in the fall. Crops don’t get frozen out nearly as early they used to 20 or 30 years ago.”
Two points: First, the climate always changes, and is a longer growing season a bad thing? Second, this doesn’t prove causation. And that’s the argument.
Oh, and that Warmists just can’t enjoy nature without thinking their politics.

This is basically what Pruitt, and most Skeptics, have been saying all along
Pruitt clarifies on climate change
Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt acknowledged Sunday that humans are contributing to climate change.
“There’s a warming trend, the climate is changing, and human activity contributes to that change in some measure,” Pruitt said on “Fox News Sunday.”
“The real issue is how much we contribute to it and measuring that with precision,” said the EPA chief, whose appointment was greeted with great concern by environmental activists.
Essentially, it boils down to what most Skeptics always say: the argument is not on warming, because the Earth has warmed roughly 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit since 1850. The argument is on causation. Skeptics say it is mostly/solely caused by nature. Members of the Cult of Climastrology say it is mostly/solely caused by Mankind. Yet, if that’s what Warmists believe, why do so few practice what they preach? Why are their solutions always to tax Other People and instituted more Big Centralized Government?
Less than a month ago, Pruitt said carbon emissions are not “a primary contributor” to global warming.
“I think that measuring with precision human activity on the climate is something very challenging to do, and there’s tremendous disagreement about the degree of impact, so, no, I would not agree that it’s a primary contributor to the global warming that we see,†Pruitt said last month on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”
That’s supposed to read as some sort of opposite from what Pruitt stated Sunday, but, it’s really the same thing.
The International Business Times also thinks this is a Big Deal, that Pruitt has made some sort of concession. What’s missing is that Warmists have to prove their assertion that this warm period is different from all the other ones in that it is caused by mankind. So far, they have failed to do that. Because we say so is not science.

I wonder how many of the illegal aliens are using taxpayer funded phones?
CNN sinks to new low: Promotes ‘5 Must-Have Apps for Undocumented Immigrants’
CNN’s promotion of an open-border policy has reached new heights — or sunk to new depths, depending upon where you stand on the issue.
After a pro-immigration group posted an app designed to help illegals avoid Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, CNN did the group one better — actually four better.
Under the headline, “5 Must-Have Apps for Undocumented Immigrants,†CNN/Money listed “tools [to] arm undocumented immigrants with knowledge, safety and moral support without compromising privacy.â€
They were developed with an eye toward the Donald Trump administration, which promised to crack down on illegal immigrants — most especially those who have committed felonies while in the United States. CNN reported:
President Trump’s efforts to crack down on immigration have left millions of undocumented immigrants with an uncertain future in America. In response, digital entrepreneurs are using technology to help support this community.
And to make it easy, the applications are in Spanish.
CNN went on to provide those 5 apps, which do things like allow illegals to let others know that immigration raids are happening. Which is fantastic, since the vast majority of people ICE goes after are illegals with criminal convictions on their record. Rape, robbery, assault, DUI, identity theft, coming back in after being deported (a federal felony), burglary, arson, and child molestation. Much like Democrats, these are the people illegals are attempting to shelter.
And now CNN is attempting to help those who are unlawfully present in the country, and are the Bad People Democrats keep telling us should be deported. Of course, they don’t really want them deported. They’d rather turn them into citizens with the ability to vote Democrat.
Can we get an app to alert us when they're about to rape, burglarize or murder one of us?
— Bailey (@realsnoopbailey) April 1, 2017
One question: wouldn’t this make CNN complicit in violating federal law in regards to attempting criminals evade the law? Look up 8 US Code 1324.

Don’t forget to check out all the other great material all the linked blogs have!
Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.
