Theresa May: “There’s Far Too Much Tolerance Of Extremism” In The U.K.

As you certainly know, there was yet another attack by Islamic jihadis in the U.K. Saturday. This is the third big attack this year alone, resulting in seven dead and 48 injured. This goes with all the other terrorist attacks across the globe, and all those that have occurred during Ramadan. The Religion of Peace has its annual Ramadan Bombathan counter working overtime. And, perhaps U.K. Prime Minister Teresa May has finally gotten it

(UK Guardian) Theresa May has warned that there has been “far too much tolerance of extremism” in the UK and promised to step up the fight against Islamist terrorism following the London Bridge attack, saying “enough is enough”.

The prime minister struck a sombre and serious tone as she spoke outside No 10 on Sunday morning after chairing a meeting of the Cobra committee following the attack in the centre of the capital in which seven people were killed.

She said internet companies must not allow extremism a place to exist, but that there was also a need to tackle “safe spaces in the real world”, which would require “difficult” conversations.

May also suggested the idea of increased prison terms for terrorism offences, even relatively minor ones.

Islamist militancy was the thread that linked the otherwise unconnected attacks in London Bridge, Westminster and Manchester, she said.

“It is an ideology that is a perversion of Islam and a perversion of the truth,” she said. “Defeating this ideology is one of the great challenges of our time. But it cannot be defeated through military intervention alone.”

She continued: “It is time to say enough is enough. Everybody needs to go about their lives as they normally would. Our society should continue to function in accordance with our values. But when it comes to taking on extremism and terrorism, things need to change.”

The point of terrorism is to change behavior politically. She vowed that the British elections will continue. The point of current Islamist terrorist attacks is also simply just to kill the infidel. Perhaps we need to stop calling them terrorist attacks and start referring to them as jihadi attacks

May said action was needed in the UK as well as overseas. She said: “While we have made significant progress in recent years, there is – to be frank – far too much tolerance of extremism in our country.

“So we need to become far more robust in identifying it and stamping it out across the public sector and across society. That will require some difficult, and often embarrassing, conversations.

“But the whole of our country needs to come together to take on this extremism, and we need to live our lives not in a series of separated, segregated communities, but as one truly United Kingdom. “

Here’s the question: does PM May and the British government, along with the British people, follow through? Might this be the straw that broke the camel’s back? Previous attacks and incidents did not cause Britain to put the full brakes on Islamic extremism. Not the 7/7 attacks. Not the massive Rotherham child sex abuse incident. Not all the rapes and sexual assaults by Islamic refugees and legal migrants. Not the pushing of Sharia law.

She mentions stamping it out across the public sector. What of the public sector, which not only tolerates Islamic extremism, but protects it? When people are investigated and even prosecuted for speaking out about it, the problem is the public sector. You have idiot leftist elected candidates saying that men run off to join ISIS because they’re bored. A top British prosecutor noted that British Muslim groups have been undermining the fight against Islamic extremism, and those groups influence British government policy. So often, the government has a problem just naming it Islamic extremism.

Perhaps this will change in the U.K. Perhaps the government will finally stop protecting and tolerating radical Islam. Time will tell.

Democrats Travel To Mexico To Help Veterans Deported By Obama

We must give credit where credit is due, even when we know there is an ulterior motive in the action

House Dems go to Mexico to help deported vets

A contingent of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, led my Chairwoman Michelle Lujan Grisham, D-N.M. will travel to Tijuana, Mexico Saturday to speak with a group of deported veterans in hopes of streamlining the pathway to citizenship for non-citizens who have served in the U.S. military.

There are an estimated 230 non-U.S. citizen veterans who have been deported, according to a 2016 report by The American Civil Liberties Union.

“We need to do more than just promise veterans a fast track to citizenship after their military service,” said Lujan Grisham. “We need to do everything possible to help them apply, while also supporting them and their families to the highest degree possible.”

Representatives Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, Lou Correa , D-Calif., Vicente Gonzalez, D-Texas, D-Texas, Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., Juan Vargas, D-Calif., and Nanette Diaz Barragán, D-Calif., will accompany Lujan to meet with 20-30 deported veterans and family members at the Deported Veterans Support House in Tijuana.

If you read the ACLU report, a goodly chunk of these veterans were deported during the Obama years. Some of them served their time, then found themselves in trouble with the law, which put them on ICE’s radar.

“Many lawful permanent resident service members are told by recruiters that they can quickly gain citizenship for themselves and their family after serving honorably,” said Lujan Grisham. “However, they are not advised that citizenship is not granted automatically and that they must actively seek citizenship through the standard, although expedited, application process.” (snip)

“The process of becoming a citizen is voluntary and controlled by USCIS,” said Lt. Col. Myles Caggins, spokesman, Department of Defense. “Not all vets choose to become citizens.”

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services offers a generous pathway for veteran immigrants to receive legal citizenship, especially if the veteran served in combat. But as Caggins said, not all choose to take advantage of the opportunity. This could then put their legal status in jeopardy.

They do need to make the choice to go through the process to become citizens. However, we should be taking better care of those who came here illegally or legally and chose to serve in our armed forces, putting their lives on the line for the nation. Read the rest of the article.

Warmists Are Suddenly Super Enthused By Federalism When It Comes To Paris Climate Agreement

Leftists have long been annoyed by the notion of the 10th Amendment, which states “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.” They would prefer that all powers go to the federal government, rather than the states and the People. Except when it interferes with their Progressive notions, then they’re all for pushing their own Rights. Which is what we’re seeing in the aftermath of Trump being elected, and since he announced he’s done with the Paris Climate Agreement

Oregon Will Join Climate Change Coalition To Meet Paris Goals

Gov. Kate Brown said Friday she is confident that Oregon and other progressive states can still meet the Paris climate goals for the U.S. — despite President Donald Trump’s decision to pull the country out of the international accord.

The Democratic governor told the City Club of Portland that Oregon will join a coalition of states led by California, Washington and New York working to reduce carbon emissions.

The new coalition was quickly announced after Trump held a White House ceremony Thursday to announce that he would begin the process of pulling out of the 195-nation accord. The president said the accord could hurt the U.S. economy, and he said he would seek to negotiate a better deal.

Brown told reporters after her talk that states representing a significant share of the country’s population and economic activity are ready to step up in the place of the federal government. And she said she was “absolutely” confident they could meet the climate goals laid out in the accord.

Again, they are more than welcome to do this. This is part of what makes up States’ Rights. Not too give a civics lesson, but, there’s a reason they are called states. The original 13 colonies were essentially the size of most Old Europe nations, and what do we call the leader of a nation? Head of State. Chief of State. They’re arrive on a state visit. We have the State Department. Countries are often referred to as nation-states. The federal government was supposed to bind us together, but, never be as strong as it is. State, county, and local governments were meant to be the primary government in people’s lives, as they would be more responsive. I’ll give it a rest there.

So, let them do this. We can laugh at them as their economies are damaged, but, there is one big question none of the state and city leaders are failing to answer: what about all the money involved in the Paris agreement? All that taxpayer money that Obama promised to redistribute? Will these same Warmists pony up the money, as well? Paris wasn’t just about reducing carbon footprints.

Let’s see these states and cities pony up their own money and give it to the United Nations to spread around to “developing nations” and 3rd world dictators. The citizens won’t mind that, right? Because this is really the Number 1 thing in the Paris Agreement.

California Continues March Towards Single Payer, With Still No Means To Pay For It

Remember when Democrats used to screech about unfunded mandates during the George W. Bush years? Good times, good times.

(LA Times) A proposal to adopt a single-payer healthcare system for California took an initial step forward Thursday when the state Senate approved a bare-bones bill that lacks a method for paying the $400-billion cost of the plan.

The proposal was made by legislators led by Sen. Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) at the same time President Trump and Republican members of Congress are working to repeal and replace the federal Affordable Care Act.

“Despite the incredible progress California has made, millions still do not have access to health insurance and millions more cannot afford the high deductibles and co-pays, and they often forgo care,” Lara said during a floor debate on the bill.

So, wait: you mean the Democrat Party passed Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare, didn’t work? Even in California, which 100% embraced this government plan? Huh.

“We don’t have the money to pay for it,” Sen. Tom Berryhill (R-Modesto) said. “If we cut every single program and expense from the state budget and redirected that money to this bill, SB 562, we wouldn’t even cover half of the $400-billion price tag.”

The plan was, unsurprisingly, passed on a party line, and leaves it up to the California House to figure out just how to fund it. Good luck with that, champs. Coming up with a few million is one thing: around $200 billion or more? Even if California is provided a waiver for the $200 billion in Medicare through a federal waiver (question: which way would Trump go?) and uses their own $25 billion Medi-Cal funds, that still leaves a reported $106 billion to create, under the best case. But, we know this is government, and that the cost would balloon.

The Central Valley track for California’s bullet train is around $3.6 billion over budget and 7 years behind schedule. The latest estimate for the whole high speed train project is a mere $24 billion over initial cost. Think on that.

Why did Senate Dems do this?

(CBS News) The measure would have died if it failed to clear the Senate this week. Democrats said they wanted to keep it alive as the Assembly tries to work out a massive overhaul of the state health care system.

And what happens when doctors and medical facilities realize their reimbursements are going down down down? (Via Ed Morrissey)

(LA Times) “Doctors would no longer have to deal with…hundreds of payers,” Lighty said. “You now have a single payer who will pay reliably or swiftly.”

Depending on how the program decides to reimburse for care, that could affect how much providers get paid. Lighty said the program would likely use the same rates as Medicare, which is less than what commercial insurers pay but more than Medi-Cal.

“Imagine what will happen if physician reimbursements fell by 15 to 20%, and those same reimbursements did not fall in Washington, Oregon, Arizona — [states that] are not implementing single-payer,” Lakdawalla said. “What happens to the population of doctors practicing in California?”

How many leave? How many increase their appointments but decrease the time spent with patients in order to make up that money? And we all know government is swift in payment, right?

But, hey, this is their choice. That’s one of the things States’ Rights is about. I hope they don’t expect the rest of us to pay for this boondoggle.

Good News: There’s No Constitutional Right To Marry A Laptop

At least not in Utah. The 9th Circuit could probably find a way to make this happen

Utah says there is no constitutional right to marry your laptop

There is no constitutional right to marry a laptop, the Utah Attorney General’s Office said in a new court filing.
Responding to a lawsuit filed against Governor Gary Herbert, Attorney General Sean Reyes, and Utah County Clerk Bryan Thompson, lawyers for the state asked a federal judge to dismiss it.

Chris Sevier sued the state of Utah, arguing that if same-sex marriage is legal he should be allowed to marry his computer. He recently amended his lawsuit to include John Gunter, Jr., and Whitney Kohl, who are arguing for the right to enter into a polygamous marriage.

Sevier has a history of filing similar lawsuits in other states. He is acting as his own attorney in this lawsuit, and has been barred from practicing law in Tennessee.

“Plaintiffs contend that because the courts have recognized same-sex individuals’ right to marry, this Court should further expand the right to marry to include unions between a person and a laptop computer and unions between multiple partners,” assistant Utah Attorney General David Wolf wrote in the filing, adding:

“These claims are untenable as a matter of law because Plaintiffs lack standing to bring these claims and the right to marry has not been indefinitely expanded, nor should it be. Simply put, marrying a laptop computer or multiple partners are not rights protected by the Constitution.”

This is, in fact, a real story. This is not the Onion or other satire site. You can make the case that if gay marriage is allowed under the Constitution, because love, then bigamy and polygamy should be allowed. An inanimate object? No. Well, maybe a smartphone, considering how hooked people are on them, but, really, they fall out of love about ever 1 1/2 to 2 years.

Leaving The Paris Agreement Is Already Saving The Planet

Irony?

From the link

It was supposed to be a boon for Boston, one more big get as City Hall courts high-profile events and promotes Boston on an international stage. But now, with a science-averse administration in the White House, Mayor Walsh says the major climate summit slated to be held here this summer is off.

At a news conference where Walsh urged Trump to reconsider withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement, the mayor also announced that the federal government has been mum on the 2017 U.S. China Climate Leaders Summit. The event was going to be sponsored by the State Department and “bring thousands of leaders from around the world to Boston,” according to City Hall. But it’s not working out that way. They’re not even taking our calls.

Think of the reduced carbon footprint without all those fossil fueled jets (how many would take commercial and how many private?) coming to Boston.
