NBC News Helpfully Explains How Liberals Can Not Ruin Thanksgiving

Every year we are treated to a raft of articles on surviving Thanksgiving (Christmas ones will come later) due to politics. Many of them attempt to explain how to ruin T-giving with talking points aimed at Explaining Things to your Republican Uncle. Others are about not ruining T-giving. This one from NBC News is the latter, where, apparently, Liberals need someone to explain this whole Acting Like An Adult And Being Civil thing

How to survive Thanksgiving when politics loom large

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a family member with politics you find appalling will say something infuriating at the Thanksgiving table.

We’ve been here before. The first Thanksgiving after the 2016 election was so tense that politically-divided families shortened their turkey dinners by 20-30 minutes last year, one study found.

Pretty much because people could not take the hardcore Progressives/Socialists/Marxists at the gathering anymore. They did not want to listing to Victimhood, Social Justice Warrioring, or Special Snowflaking. Remember, this are people who yelled at the sky on the 1 year date of Trump being elected.

This Thanksgiving — the first after the inauguration of President Trump — people are as dug in as ever, experts say, but instead of pondering just the election results, they now have policies argue about — everything from health care and taxes to immigration.

Perhaps so, but leftists always have their own Talking Points ready in any year, ramping up the discussion to uncomfortable levels on ‘climate change’, bathroom policy, the gender confused, etc. Even on how Evil it is to have all the food on T-giving (though they’ll still eat it).

The No. 1 rule is to avoid talking about politics at the family Thanksgiving gathering — it’s not worth it and you’re not going to change anyone’s mind.

The hosts should set down ground rules, particularly if they know there are family members who are going to spar, Farley said. You can say on the invitation: “Host’s prerogative: I would like to request no political conversation at the party whatsoever — let’s focus on what we’re thankful for.”

It’s needed because Progressives have no self control to keep it civil. And just shut up when people want to watch football.

DO ALLOW A CONVERSATION ABOUT SEXUAL HARASSMENT

Oh, that’ll go well

A family member may share a #MeToo story, revealing for the first time she was assaulted. Teenagers may ask tough questions about what it means to grope, fondle or expose. The topic is too important to avoid, Klapow said. If it comes up, a calm discussion about respect, and what’s right and wrong, is fine — just be aware there may be children listening. Some conversations should be more private, he advised.

No. Just no.

The article offers other ideas, such as having a designated politics zone, not taking the bait and getting into an argument, having a wingman, using humor to deflect (unfortunately, humor for Liberals is mostly non-existent, except for jokes about assassinating Bush Trump), and taking a breather. Easier yet, do not invited the hardcore Leftists.

NY Times: Capitalism Must Be Destroyed To Solve The Climate (Scam) Crisis Or Something

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: one of the reasons for my conversion from tepid Warmist to climate skeptic was seeing that everything proposed to solve the climate scam crisis was based on hardcore, leftist policies. That the people involved, especially the leaders, were pushing for big Big Government policies of restriction, control, and taxation/fees. Every once in a while, a Warmist lets the cat out of the bag that this is not about science, but politics. Naomi Klein is good for pushing for the end of capitalism (while selling her books for profit, of course), and there are plenty of books like hers. And here we have Benjamin Y. Fong at the NY Times

The Climate Crisis? It’s Capitalism, Stupid

….

However, the cause of the disaster that, by all indications, we are already living through should be clearer. It is not the result of the failure of individuals to adopt the moralizing strictures of “green” consciousness, and it is a sign of just how far we have to go that some still believe reusable shopping bags and composting (perfectly fine in their own right) are ways out of this mess.

We like to pick out Volkswagen’s diesel scandal, but it is only one of many carmakers that “deliberately exploit lax emissions tests.” Nor does the onus fall on the foundering of Social Democratic reforms and international cooperation: Even before the United States backed out of the Paris Accord, we were well on our way to a 7.2 degrees Fahrenheit temperature rise by 2100, “a temperature that at times in the past has meant no ice at either pole.”

The real culprit of the climate crisis is not any particular form of consumption, production or regulation but rather the very way in which we globally produce, which is for profit rather than for sustainability. So long as this order is in place, the crisis will continue and, given its progressive nature, worsen. This is a hard fact to confront. But averting our eyes from a seemingly intractable problem does not make it any less a problem. It should be stated plainly: It’s capitalism that is at fault.

As an increasing number of environmental groups are emphasizing, it’s systemic change or bust. From a political standpoint, something interesting has occurred here: Climate change has made anticapitalist struggle, for the first time in history, a non-class-based issue.

It’s always interesting that people who have thrived under capitalism and use all its trappings want to take it away from Other People and future generations. Fong yammers on about “eco-apartheid”, those evil Rich people (people living in 3rd world sh*tholes in mud huts with no A/C, cars, electricity, or healthcare would call those living in government housing with TVs, electricity, healthcare, etc, rich), until we get to the notion that some Warmists want Intelligent!!!! people in charge. Au contraire, Fong writes

Put differently, the hope that we can empower intelligent people to positions where they can design the perfect set of regulations, or that we can rely on scientists to take the carbon out of the atmosphere and engineer sources of renewable energy, serves to cover over the simple fact that the work of saving the planet is political, not technical. We have a much better chance of making it past the 22nd century if environmental regulations are designed by a team of people with no formal education in a democratic socialist society than we do if they are made by a team of the most esteemed scientific luminaries in a capitalist society. The intelligence of the brightest people around is no match for the rampant stupidity of capitalism.

Taken altogether, Fong is arguing that dumb people (preferably kept that way by The State) should make the decisions. People who have been pretty much brainwashed by the Cult of Climastrology and their Progressive masters into making RightThink decisions. And hopefully doing away with capitalism in favor of a Statist system of economic control.

Companies Have Now Invented “Climate Leave”

Because, obviously, Bad Weather never happened prior to fossil fuels and whatever time frame Warmists deem important for the conversation. It’s rather serendipitous that this article is in the Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette

Firms size up ‘climate leave’

Even the workplace has to adapt to the warming world. As climate change creates more intense storms, companies have started preparing for work disruptions because of extreme weather.

Of course, there has been no real world increase in so-called extreme weather. In fact, “The world is presently in an era of unusually low weather disasters.” But, the Cult of Climastrology never lets facts get in the way of a good narrative.

In a sign of the times, Fog Creek, a software company based in New York City, recently announced that it would provide up to five days of paid “climate leave” for employees who can’t work because of extreme weather events. If there’s a declared state of emergency, the company will give affected employees even more time.

During previous hurricanes, wildfires and other natural disasters, the company let employees take time off on a case-by-case basis. One Miami-based employee had to evacuate during Hurricane Irma, and the storm Sandy displaced most of the company’s workers back in 2012. Throughout the storms, Fog Creek continued to pay its staff.

But after seeing reports of people losing their jobs after missing work during this year’s particularly devastating hurricane season, Anil Dash, Fog Creek’s chief executive officer, wanted to formalize paid time off for his workers. The company, which fights for talent with bigger technology firms, such as Google and Facebook, offers its 35 employees generous benefits. Fog Creek claims that it was one of the first to offer free lunch to its workers.

That’s so woke! Climawoke!

Stack Overflow, another Manhattan-based technology company with more than 250 employees, will consider the policy, said Dash, who sits on the board. The company says it hasn’t formalized its policy yet, but it accommodates employees affected by climate-related occurrences.

Like pretty much most companies, who have policies about weather incidents, whereby they do not want employees to put themselves in harm’s way. This usually is when winter weather occurs. Oh, right, I forgot, Warmists blame winter weather on warming not.

Regardless, if some companies want to virtue signal and pay their employees for not working during weather events (rather than allowing them to take sick days, paid days off, etc), that’s on them. It’s just more silliness from the juvenile minds of the Cult of Climastrology.

Trump Puts Decision On Big Game Hunting Imports On Hold

I’m hoping he puts the decision on permanent hold

(Free Beacon)  President Donald Trump said Friday he was putting a decision to reverse a ban on importing elephant trophies from two African countries on hold, saying he needed to review “all conservation facts.”

Trump added he would soon provide an update with Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke.

“Put big game trophy decision on hold until such time as I review all conservation facts. Under study for years. Will update soon with Secretary Zinke. Thank you!” Trump tweeted.

Good for him. Interestingly, though, the initial rule from 2014 stopped the import, but did not stop actual hunting of elephants. Furthermore, there was a finding in June, 2016 from Fish and Wildlife that would lift the import ban. Who was president then? And this was in the works ever since. They go through this and that and the other in attempt to defend it, and, really, it makes no difference, because, again, the 2014 ruled did not stop hunts.

Personally, I’d like to see Trump work out a way that sport hunting of elephants could be stopped altogether.

We Must Limit Our Economic Growth To Stop ‘Climate Change’ Or Something

Funny how so much of what climate scam cultists want is to knock the human race back hundreds and hundreds of years economically

Our addiction to growth is harming the climate
We must wean ourselves off unsustainable economic growth if we are to cut greenhouse gas emissions and avoid catastrophic climate change, say some economists. But what are the alternatives to growth?

Electing Leftists usually limits economic growth.

On the way home from work in your electric car, you stop off at the local discount store and pick up some beef for dinner. The meat was shipped in from Brazil to Germany. The land where the cow grazed was once rainforest. The nickel used in the car made its way from a polluting mine in the Philippines to a European assembly line.

Extracting, producing and shipping both products involved vast amounts of energy, resources, and greenhouse gas emissions. Taken in isolation, that’s not a big deal, you might think. But the scale of consumption — particularly in industrialized countries — and the the relentless pursuit of goods and services, is putting a huge strain on the planet’s ecosystems and atmosphere, say scientists.

In 2017, Earth Overshoot Day — the date when humanity spent Earth’s resource budget to live sustainably for the year — fell on August 2. In 1987, it landed on December 9. Today, we need 1.7 planets to meet our consumption demands — and that number could rise to two planets by 2030.

Unless we get that growth under control, not only will we be facing an “ecosystem collapse” due to the loss of species and conversion of land for industry and agriculture, we won’t be able to stop global warming, according to some economists.

You get the idea: these people hate people living a modern economic life. What to do?

In the US and Europe, the idea of “degrowth” — a movement around downsizing production and consumption, and moving the economy away from infinite expansion in a just and equitable way — is gaining traction.

That’s partly because of the growing gap between rich and poor. Part of the problem is that we measure society’s economic progress and well-being using Gross Domestic Product (GDP), say some economists.

Strange: I’m getting the idea that this whole ‘climate change’ movement is intertwined with all the other Statist/Progressive ideas. But, hey, if these climate scammers really believe this stuff, they should practice what they preach. Oh, wait…

On an individual level, “degrowthers” might choose not to fly or drive a car but they say environmental problems are not individual problems. Solutions must be political and community-based.

In other words, forcing everyone else to comply per government force.

French President Promises To Replace Lost U.S. Climate Scam Funds, Wants Green Tariffs

It’s always pretty easy for leaders in the Cult of Climastrology to promise Other People’s money, rather than reducing their own carbon footprint, wouldn’t you say?

(UK Independent) Emmanuel Macron has vowed to replace every dollar that is withdrawn from the UN’s climate change programme by Donald Trump.

The French President told a UN climate summit in Bonn, Germany, that France would step in to cover the cost of US contributions to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) that Mr Trump has said he will withdraw.

“I can guarantee that, starting in 2018, the IPCC will have all the money it needs and will continue to support our decision-making,” he said. “It will not miss a single euro.”

“We need scientific information that is constantly nourished to ensure clear decision making. The IPCC is one of the major components of this work.

“However, it is threatened today by the decision of the US not to guarantee funding for it. Therefore, I propose that the EU replaces the USA, and France will meet that challenge.”

Apparently, France is flush with enough cash to piss away billions of dollars (U.S.). It’s not like France’s economy is the worst of the big 3 in the EU. 1.2% economic growth for 2016, a 10% unemployment rate (24% for people 16-24), and a government debt which is 90% of GDP (which was 58% a decade ago). And there socialized health system is on the brink of collapse. But, hey, if France wants to give their money away, that’s on them. Or really, Macron telling them it’s on them.

In his speech, Mr Macron also called for an EU tariff on goods imported from countries or companies that do not share its climate goals, and pledged to work to raise the cost of carbon within the EU to €30 a tonne.

Obviously, this is aimed at the U.S. and Trump. But, good luck with that, Macron: Europe needs the U.S. trade more than the reverse, and it wouldn’t be pretty if the U.S. retaliated against E.U. goods.

The French President is hosting a conference in Paris next month on the issue of climate finance.

If Macron really cared, he’d have it via videoconference, rather than having tons of people taking fossil fueled trips from around the world a month after thousands and thousands took fossil fueled trips from around the world for the UN COP23 meeting.

Suddenly, NY Times Is Interested In The Line Between Sexual Assault And A Mistake

The NY Times has (mostly) long been on the Everything Is Sexual Assault bandwagon, and that the accuser is always right, should always believed, proof is not necessary, and the accused should have their life destroyed. Unless it was Bill Clinton (with Hillary as his enabler). Or Ted Kennedy. Or virtually any Democrat. Which is how we end up here

A Fresh Debate Over the Line Between Abuse and a Mistake

A day after the latest in a dizzying series of sexual assault revelations enveloped Senator Al Franken and rattled the Capitol, politicians and comedians were left trying to assess the line between predatory behavior and an inexcusable mistake, as calls mounted for him to resign. (snip – we know we he did)

But while there was no widespread public showing of support for Mr. Franken, a number of his allies, including three former “Saturday Night Live” colleagues and 10 former aides, all women, said that they did not believe his behavior fit a pattern or was in the same realm of misconduct as other high-profile men accused of sexual abuse in the entertainment industry, including the comedian Louis C. K. and the producer Harvey Weinstein.

“I’m just so upset about this atmosphere and good people being dragged into it,” said Jane Curtin, a member of the original cast of “Saturday Night Live” with Mr. Franken from 1975 to 1980 who has been close with him since. “It’s just like the red menace. You don’t know who’s going to be next.”

If she’s referring to the overall atmosphere where someone is hauled up in front of a kangaroo court at a college for an innocent kiss on the cheek, or accused of sexual assault months after the consensual sex occurred and not allowed legal representation or to face the accuser, well, yeah.

As Washington wrestled with how to categorize Mr. Franken’s behavior, which was accompanied by a photo that showed him appearing to grope Ms. Tweeden as she slept on a military plane, even some ardent defenders of women’s rights said the senator’s offense was not so grievous as to require his resignation.

“This is not a Harvey Weinstein situation,” said Debra Katz, a civil rights lawyer who handles sexual harassment cases. “Harvey Weinstein was a serial predator who used his power to put women in very vulnerable situations. He abused that power by sexually assaulting women. That’s not what this is.”

Ms. Katz also drew a distinction between Mr. Franken’s role as a comedian and that of a senator.

There are plenty of people mentioned along these lines in supporting Franken. And, they might have a point: where is that line between doing something stupid, being a jerk, or just making a mistake and sexual assault/harassment? I’ve written such on many websites in the comments. Let’s not forget, though, that this is a situation created by the hardcore, extremist Democratic Party base, where everyone is a Victim, and penalties must be extreme and harsh. According to SJW doctrine, even words are reason for personal destruction, and Franken has said some nasty things.

Also, let’s consider: if Franken was a Republican, would the NY Times and the people interviewed be so charitable? Remember, Democrats helped in the destruction of Larry Craig, whose offense was supposedly tapping the foot of another person while looking for consensual gay sex.

“He’s had unsavory jokes in the past that he’s regretted,” Ms. Volin Lehr said of Mr. Franken’s comedy career. She said the photo published Thursday fell into that category, “but it is hard to see how this is comparable to the other incidents that women have brought forward in the recent past.”

On one hand, Lehr is right. On the other, imagine Franken was a Republican. And there’s your answer.
