‘Climate Change’ Is Causing The Ocean Floor To Sink Or Something

This is a new one

Study: We’ve measured sea level rise wrong for 20 years – and it’s higher than previously thought

The ocean floor is likely sinking due to climate change, rendering sea level rise measurements over the last 20 years grossly inaccurate, Dutch scientists claim.

Researchers from the Delft University of Technology say the sea has risen four percent higher than previously estimated over the past two decades. They published their findings in the journal Geophysical Research Letters late last month.

It’s a circular situation, in which climate change spurs glacial melt which leads to higher sea levels and fuller oceans. All that water weight, the scientists hypothesize, warped the Earth’s crust by .1 millimeters per year between 1993 and 2014, the time period surveyed for the study. That may sound insignificant, but when coupled with the knowledge that the sea has risen by 84.8 millimeters since 1993, the picture starts to look much more terrifying.

See, what you have here is an attempt to manufacture a greater sea rise than has actually occurred, because sea rise is just not cooperating with the doomy prognostications of the Cult of Climastrology. Sea rise was exactly average for the Holocene during the 20th Century, and has not accelerated. It’s well below what we should be seeing for a Holocene warm period. Warmists can’t allow this bit of science to stand when they have taxes and fees and personal freedom restrictions and big government to enact.

Democrats Are Still Pushing Hard For A “Clean” DACA Bill

You can tell where the priorities of Democrats lie: rewarding illegal behavior coupled with creating conditions for more illegal behavior, all to the detriment of U.S. citizens and those who want to immigrate the lawful way

(Breitbart) On Wednesday’s broadcast of “MSNBC Live,” House Democratic Caucus Chairman Representative Joe Crowley (D-NY) stated that Democrats want a clean DACA bill and dubbed a border wall a waste of money.

Crowley said, “I think there’s a false premise here, in other words, equating security and border security with the DACA individuals themselves. They are not a security risk to the American people. They love this country. This is the country they know and love, and they are now in a state of limbo. And unless the president, who has promised to address this issue, works to make that happen in a clean bill, that’s what Democrats are looking for. A $40 billion wall is a waste of government money. … You can’t drive on it. You can’t live in it. You can’t do anything with it, and it really is just a waste of government resources. We have the security along our border that we need. And we can certainly talk about addressing some of the issues that need to be addressed, but let’s not conflate the two issues together.”

Except, they’ll never want to talk about those security issues afterwards. This is all about trying to find a way to give the Dreamers permanent legal status with the ability to vote. Then there’s this bit of moonbattery

(LifeZette) A former Democratic Party official insisted Wednesday night on “The Ingraham Angle” that Republicans must pass a “clean” amnesty bill for so-called dreamers if they want to stay in power.

But Steven Camarota, director of research at the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Immigration Studies, told Fox News host Laura Ingraham that the politics of immigration make that unlikely. He noted that legal immigrants who become citizens tend to favor Democrats by a 2-to-1 margin. So over the next 20 years, he said, immigration is likely to add an additional 15 million voters to the rolls.

“Quite naturally, the political system will reflect the values of the changing electorate,” he said. “So it’s hard to see if legal immigration continues, how a conservative Republican Party survives.”

Got that? We have to pass a bill that provides permanent legal status to illegal aliens who were brought by their parents, and the parents, and chain migration from the legalized illegals, otherwise, the people who come legally might not vote for the GOP.

Jose Aristimuño, former press secretary for the Democratic National Committee, told Ingraham that Trump will be a one-term president if he insists on concessions like a border wall and an end to chain migration as part of a deal to grant legal status to illegal immigrants currently enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“If he wants to keep his job, he has to extend DACA,” he said.

Most of the people who put Trump in office are not particularly enthused by giving lawbreakers legal status. And part of why Trump won was due to tough talk on illegal aliens.

Meanwhile, the DHS Chief has a few thoughts on DACA

(Daily Caller) Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen says she would like to see a replacement for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, but she believes any legislative amnesty should apply only to the illegal immigrants who originally qualified for protection.

Speaking to reporters during a trip to view wildfire damage in California, Nielsen said the administration is committed to a “permanent” solution for DACA beneficiaries.

“Everybody wants to find a solution — a permanent solution — to DACA,” she said, according to the Associated Press. “I mean I really haven’t talked to anybody who has said, ‘Nah, we don’t want to do that.’”

But Nielsen emphasized that any DACA amnesty should be limited to the roughly 800,000 younger illegal immigrants who received protections when the program was in effect, not everyone who was eligible.

She says that no one, not the parents, not the relatives, not other illegals, should receive any sort of legalization. Period. And she’s right. If the parents are the ones who committed the “sin” that the kids (most of whom are adults and uneducated) should not pay for, then the parents should pay for it. Via deportation. I still say that any legalization should be coupled with the parents having to self-deport prior to any legalization, and are not allowed back in the country for years, and only then for a short visit. As I wrote in September

Here’s a recommendation: Congress puts DACA into law, but allows 4 year renewals, rather than 2 years, in order to decrease burden on federal agencies. Just like with people who are applying for citizenship, any serious crimes can be cause to cancel an illegals legal status and deport them. And, yes, even DUIs may be considered cause, just like with those applying for citizenship. After 12 years, they can go through the same process as those applying for citizenship in order to attempt to earn full citizenship.

BUT, if we aren’t going to lay the “sins” of the parent(s) on the children, we are going to lay them on the parent(s). In order to obtain DACA status, the parent(s) must self deport, and provide proof at an immigration checkpoint as they leave. They are not allowed back in the United States for 2 years, and then only for a short visit. If they are caught residing in the U.S., or attempting to enter the country illegally, the children will have their DACA status ended and will be deported. After 12 years, they would be allowed to apply for temporary resident status, conditioned on speaking English and having good moral character. This seems fair. The parents broke our laws.

If you don’t agree with punishing the parents, then you’re simply using DACA to create a backdoor amnesty for all.

NY Times: It’s So Cold Because You Drove A Fossil Fueled Vehicle

That, and your use of a hair dryer, ice maker in the fridge, the fridge itself, air conditioning and heating, washing and drying your clothes with machines, wearing clothes that you didn’t make yourself or buy from local manufacture, eating meat, not growing your own veggies, owning a gun, and so much more. But, there is an interesting admission

From the article

As bitter cold continues to grip much of North America and helps spawn the fierce storm along the East Coast, the question arises: What’s the influence of climate change?

Only in Cult of Climastrology World. Most people just say “winter.”

Some scientists studying the connection between climate change and cold spells, which occur when cold Arctic air dips south, say that they may be related. But the importance of the relationship is not fully clear yet.

Soooooooo, not clear yet, and, in science, this means research that says “yes, there is most specifically a link.” This is more like political language. Basically, this is an admission that this entire line of thought is a bunch of mule fritters.

The reason a direct connection between cold weather and global warming is still up for debate, scientists say, is that there are many other factors involved. Ocean temperatures in the tropics, soil moisture, snow cover, even the long-term natural variability of large ocean systems all can influence the jet stream.

Huh. If CO2 is the control knob, why can other things, like natural variability, constantly over-ride it? Why couldn’t it be primarily natural? Oh, right, then the Warmists couldn’t recommend taxes and fees and lifestyle restrictions. Here it comes

Much of the Northern Hemisphere is cold this time of year (it’s winter, after all). Cold snaps have occurred throughout history — certainly long before industrialization resulted in large emissions of greenhouse gases. And as with any single weather event, it’s difficult to directly attribute the influence of climate change to a particular cold spell.

But scientists have been puzzled by data that at first seems counterintuitive: Despite an undeniable overall year-round warming trend, winters in North America and Europe have trended cooler over the past quarter-century.

Obviously, in Warmists World, this means mankind’s CO2 output. To sane people, and those who actually practice Science, this means that climate changes, things happen, and perhaps the warming isn’t as strong as the manipulated, massaged, smoothed, and manufactured data says.

We’re Going To Need Floating Homes For Our Permanent Drought Flood World

Yesterday we learned that the Earth could become a drought world (unless you’re willing to be taxed and fee’d under the Paris climate agreement). Today we learn

Interestingly, before I started reading the article, the New Yorker gave me a pop-up ad to get me to subscribe as they’re “fighting fake stories with real ones.” Uh huh

Last June, not long after a catastrophic thunderstorm swept through southern Ontario, bringing a month’s worth of rain in just a few hours, a group of seventy-five architects, engineers, and policymakers from sixteen countries gathered in the city of Waterloo to discuss how humanity will cope with its waterlogged future. The timing of the conference was a fitting meteorological coincidence; in a world increasingly transformed by climate change, heavy rains and major floods are becoming more common, at least in some areas. In the summer of 2017 alone, Hurricane Harvey dumped more than fifty inches of rain over Texas, a monster monsoon season damaged more than eight hundred thousand homes in India, and flash floods and mudslides claimed at least five hundred lives in Sierra Leone. In the past two decades, the world’s ten worst floods have done more than a hundred and sixty-five billion dollars’ worth of damage and driven more than a billion people from their homes.

So, flood drought? Fortunately, the people invovled in this project are doing their part to bring about the permanent droughtflood world by flying all over the world to check out designs for floating homes.

English isn’t giving up. A few months after the conference, she flew to Vietnam, where she is designing two new amphibious houses that are slated to be built in January. She also has a grant from the National Research Council of Canada to begin developing guidelines for amphibious construction that the government can include in its official building code. English and other experts say that opinions about amphibious architecture are beginning to shift, especially as climate change makes innovative building solutions more urgent. “Usually, after a conference presentation, I’ll have people coming up to me and saying, ‘I’ve never heard of this before, this is such a great idea, how can I do this in my community?’ ” English said. “People don’t laugh at me anymore.”

Yes, I bet all the people out in the middle of America and Canada think this is awesome.

Climastrologers Can Now Blame Every Weather Event On Your Carbon Footprint

This tweet from one of my favorite Warmists didn’t age well

https://twitter.com/drvox/status/948259635105906688

because we now have this

Scientists Can Now Blame Individual Natural Disasters on Climate Change
Extreme event attribution is one of the most rapidly expanding areas of climate science

….

His hunch held true. Nearly 15 years later, extreme event attribution not only is possible, but is one of the most rapidly expanding subfields of climate science.

“The public stance of the scientific community about individual event attribution in the year 2000 is that it’s not something that science does,” said Noah Diffenbaugh, a Stanford University climate scientist and attribution expert. “And so to go from that to now, that you’ll find a paper every week … that’s why we say there’s been an explosion of research. It’s gone from zero to 60, basically.”

Over the last few years, dozens of studies have investigated the influence of climate change on events ranging from the Russian heat wave of 2010 to the California drought, evaluating the extent to which global warming has made them more severe or more likely to occur.

Shockingly, these climastrologers find a human-caused greenhouse gas fingerprint in each and every one! No matter what happens, this is their conclusion. Every weather event is linked to or caused by Mankind’s “carbon pollution.”

This is a long, long article, with much to fisk (like how it start out with a discussion of a rising Thames, which hadn’t been that high since 1947! You know, when CO2 was under the “safe” 350ppm), but, the basics here are that the Cult of Climastrology will continue to blamestorm and just pull “science” out of their collective asses.

Democrats Are Totally Itching For A Fight And Will Hold The Line Or Something

Democrats have been essentially fighting since the day Donald Trump was elected. Usually in their typical cray-cray mode. But they’re going to hold the line now

Itching for a fight, Dems vow to hold the line

The January battle to keep the government open is the fight Democrats have been itching for.

On three occasions in recent months, Democrats punted on some of their top priorities as the GOP passed short-term funding bills — a strategy that outraged liberals eager for confrontation on issues like immigration and health care.

But with yet another spending deadline approaching on Jan. 19, Democrats say the time has come to hold the line.

In a Tuesday letter to her troops, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) laid out the party’s top priorities heading into the fight. The Democrats will “insist” on parity between defense and nondefense spending hikes, Pelosi wrote, while pressing “firmly” to protect the young immigrants affected by President Trump’s move to dismantle the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

In other words, they’re going to be soft on defense and attempt to protect illegal aliens over U.S. citizens.

Pelosi also promised a tough fight over new funding for veterans, pensions, the opioid crisis, health research, disaster aid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Would this be the CHIP that most Democrats in the House voted against? And isn’t even up for a vote in the Senate because Democrats are against reauthorization?

At the end of the day, though, the only thing that they really care about is DACA

On Wednesday, immigrant rights advocates — joined by celebrities including Alyssa Milano and America Ferrera — will rally at the Los Angeles office of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) to deliver an unsubtle message to the Democrats: deliver for the “Dreamers,” or pay a heavy price.

“DREAM Act or primaries,” Ady Barkan, a spokesman from the activist group CPD Action, said Tuesday. “We need Democrats to deliver on their promise to pass a DREAM Act now or we will put our full weight behind primary challengers who are ready to protect our communities.”

Veterans, opioids, CHIP, you name it, they’ll all come far behind DACA, because Democrats care more about illegal aliens than American citizens. And don’t think they are sticking just to Dreamers

Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.), one of Capitol Hill’s most vocal immigrant rights advocates, is sounding a similar alarm.

“With new people becoming deportable every day, House and Senate leaders in both parties should not underestimate the urgency and the passion behind getting the DREAM Act passed right away,” Gutiérrez told The Hill Tuesday. “Our base wants us to fight for what is right — to take a stand against the bigotry and callousness coming from the White House.

They are going to push for protection for most illegal aliens along with the Dreamers.

The East Coast Is Going To Get Hit With A “Bomb-Cyclone” Of ‘Climate Change’

The Washington Post plays the story of a big winter storm (something Warmists were saying were a thing of the past) straight

Monster storm to blast East Coast before polar vortex uncorks tremendous cold late this week

Unforgiving cold has punished the eastern third of the United States for the past 10 days. But the most severe winter weather yet will assault the area late this week.

First, a monster storm will hammer coastal locations from Georgia to Maine with ice and snow. By Thursday, the exploding storm will, in many ways, resemble a winter hurricane, battering easternmost New England with potentially damaging winds in addition to blinding snow.

Forecasters are expecting the storm to become a so-called “bomb cyclone” because its pressure is predicted to fall so fast, an indicator of explosive strengthening. The storm could rank as the most intense over the waters east of New England in decades at this time of year. While blizzard conditions could paste some coastal areas, the most extreme conditions will remain well out over the ocean.

In the storm’s wake, the mother lode of numbing cold will crash south — likely the last but most bitter in brutal blasts since Christmas Eve.

This is what’s called “weather”, just like with a hurricane, tornado, rain storm, or a nice day. It’s happened before and it’ll happen again. But, of course, along comes Excitable Rowan Walrath at Mother Jones, which replicates much of the Washington Post article prior to

In late 2016, Mother Jones reported that climate change may be contributing to such weather events.

The theory—advanced by Rutgers professor Jennifer Francis and other scientists—is that the rapidly warming Arctic is affecting the jet stream in ways that can contribute to bone-chilling weather in other parts of the Northern Hemisphere:

To understand how it works, it first helps to think of the jet stream as a river of air that flows from west to east in the Northern Hemisphere, bringing with it much of our weather. Its motion—sometimes in a relatively straight path, sometimes in a more loopy one—is driven by a difference in temperatures between the equator and the North Pole. Southern temperatures are of course warmer, and because warm air takes up more space than cold air, this leads to taller columns of air in the atmosphere. “If you were sitting on top of a layer of atmosphere and you were in DC, looking northward, it would be like looking down a hill, because it’s warmer where you are,” explains Francis. The jet stream then flows “downhill,” so to speak, in a northward direction. But it’s also bent by the rotation of the Earth, leading to its continual wavy, eastward motion. As the Arctic rapidly heats up, however, there’s less of a temperature difference between the equator and the poles, and the downhill slope in the atmosphere is accordingly less steep.

And there it is. The question they refuse to answer is “did this same thing happen prior to the Modern Warm Period?” Did this kind of thing not happen before during the Little Ice Age? Can they specifically prove, using the Scientific Method, that this is happening mostly due to Mankind’s output of what they unscientifically call “carbon pollution”? Of course not. The people who proclaim the world is only 6,000 years old and the dinosaur bones were planted can’t prove it, either. Of course, the latter group isn’t trying to tax and fee you, nor have the government control your life.

Seasoned experts over at the National Weather Service have tips for avoiding hypothermia. President Donald Trump simply suggests we “bundle up.”

It ended with a bit of Trump Derangement Syndrome. This is what your wife or mother will tell you. To Mother Jones, this is just Horrible.

Related, The Daily Beast’s Tanya Basu is not impressed by all the apocalyptic weather talk regarding this storm, in which a meteorologist calls it “a fairly classic winter storm.”

The Earth Could Become A Desert Without The Paris Climate Agreement Or Something

It’s become a dried out flood world with cold and snow and hot and hurricanes and not hurricanes and stuff

(Washington Examiner)  Climate researchers are warning that a large chunk of the globe could become a desert if the goals of the Paris climate change accord are not met.

The findings published Monday in the journal Nature Climate Change show that more than 25 percent of the world’s population will live in a perpetual state of drought and growing desertification if the Earth’s temperature rises by 2 degrees Celsius by 2050.

The report says the solution is to prevent global warming from rising above 1.5 degrees C, which the researchers say would significantly reduce the number of regions of the world affected by “aridification,” or the drying of the planet.

We can solve all this with a tax, you know.
