Pro Removed From $1 Million Magic Tournament Accused Of Harassing Women

On Wednesday, one of the most prominent players in the Magic: The Gathering scene was unceremoniously dropped from this weekend’s first-ever $1 million tournament for the strategy card game. Since then, as questions have been raised about the unspecified reasons behind Turtenwald’s removal, sources have told Kotaku that the player has engaged in inappropriate behavior toward female players and fans for years.

Owen Turtenwald has been ranked among the world’s top Magic players for about a decade. In 2011, he won a string of seven Grand Prix tournaments, earning that year’s Player Of The Year award, which he won again in 2016. Today, Turtenwald is a celebrated member of the Magic: The Gathering Hall of Fame, a sponsored Twitch streamer, and a competitor in the Magic: The Gathering’s 2019 Pro League, where he reportedly receives about $75,000 in contracts per year.

The only shred of evidence that fans had to go on for a reason behind Turtenwald’s removal from the event was a tweet from a Magic player named Mary Louke. “Very pleased with this news,” it read. “If you don’t know why… then you don’t know the best secret kept in Magic.”

Louke is one of three people who told Kotaku that Turtenwald has exhibited a pattern of predatory behavior toward female Magic players that spans several years. Screenshots shared with Kotaku showed that, Turtenwald continued pursuing these women sexually and romantically even after they stopped responding or turned him down.

‘Climate Change’ Could Turn Us All Cannibal Or Something

A New Study Suggests Neanderthals Resorted To Cannibalism As A Result Of Climate Change

When climate change became too much to endure 120,000 years ago, a group of Neanderthals who were living in the south of France are believed to have become so desperate for food that they resorted to cannibalism, slaughtering and consuming six of their own, according to a new study conducted by Alban Defleur and Emmanuel Desclaux.

As Cosmos Magazine reports, scientists first discovered the remains of the six Neanderthal victims in the 1990s in a cave located near Baume Moula-Guercy in the Rhône valley. The victims were found to belong to different age groups, with two of the Neanderthals found to have been adults, and the remaining four adolescents and younger children.

The bones of these six Neanderthals all revealed very clear and obvious signs of cannibalism, including fingers which look as if they had been ravenously chewed upon, and bones which had numerous cut marks on them which scientists believe were made by stone tools. In some of these remains there was also evidence of dismemberment, which is nothing that would have occurred naturally.

After scientists dated the floor of the Baume Moula-Guercy cave where the six Neanderthal remains were discovered, they determined that the Neanderthals would have died between 128,000 to 114,000 years ago, which would have been during the most recent interglacial period.

With temperatures much warmer on average than they are today, the Rhône Valley would have changed so dramatically that Neanderthals wouldn’t have had any large mammals to have hunted and eaten, and instead were forced to search for rodents, snakes and tortoises. And while Neanderthals were once used to living in grasslands, their environment also abruptly changed to forested areas.

First, what caused the climatic change? It was all natural, right? Second, there are plenty of large mammals in plenty of very warm areas, as well as forested areas. Regardless, this is all meant to scare us, and since Democrats are so squishy on owning guns, they’ll be the first in the pot.

Life Under Modern Socialism: Venezuela To Ration Electricity

This only applies to Venezuelans in certain areas who still have working electricity, of course

Venezuela’s Maduro announces plan to ration electricity amid blackouts

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Sunday announced a 30-day electricity rationing plan for the nation, according to the Associated Press.

In an address on national television Sunday, Maduro said the rationing plan would address the nation’s intermittent power outages, which have also affected the water supply and communications, according to the wire service.

Opposition leader Juan Guaido, who the United States has recognized as president, has called on Venezuelans to demonstrate in response to the outages, which he blamed on government neglect while Maduro has attributed them to deliberate sabotage by the U.S.

“No one can put up with this. We spend almost all day without electricity,” Karina Camacho, a 56-year-old housewife, told the news service. “There’s been no water since (last) Monday, you can’t call by phone, we can’t pay with cards or even eat.” The blackouts have prevented Venezuelans from making electronic payments in several cases.

Venezuela is an oil rich nation, which has been so damaged by the policies of people like Maduro and Hugo Chavez that they can’t keep the power running. Heck, there was a period where it was reported they had no toilet paper nor beer, and zoo animals were being eaten to avoid starvation. This is also what happens when the government controls the power grid.

Power went out across Venezuela on Sunday, just as it did on Saturday, and the day before that.

But while some electricity had returned by Sunday afternoon, jittery Venezuelans weren’t so much celebrating the lights coming on as wondering when the next outages would flick them off.

And that’s where the quite from Ms. Camacho comes into play. People were on their balconies and such banging on pots to demonstrate against Maduro. You know, the dictator whom so many of these new Democratic Party House members support and defend, because he has the right blend of Modern Socialism for them.

Bummer: Democrats Worried Mueller Report They Demanded Will Increase Trump’s Executive Power

Let’s not forget two things. First, Democrats not only had zero issue with Obama expanding his executive powers, his whole pen and phone thing, but they gave him plenty more via legislation such as the Affordable Care Act. Second, Democrats demanded a special prosecutor to investigate Trump World based on fake documents and wishful thinking, so, any blowback is ironic

Dems worry Mueller findings could expand executive power

Democrats are voicing growing concerns that Robert Mueller’s decision to avoid judgment on whether President Trump obstructed justice could engender a long-term expansion of executive powers.

While the debate surrounding Mueller’s investigation has focused almost exclusively on how the findings might affect Trump, Democrats are sounding alarm bells that inaction on the obstruction allegations could usher in a new era of executive impunity — a shift empowering future presidents to flout the law for years to come.

“You are seeing a move toward expanding executive powers,” said Rep. Anthony Brown (D-Md.), who is joining Democratic leaders in calling for the Justice Department to release the full text of the special counsel’s report.

“Congress needs to do more investigation, particularly on the obstruction issue,” he continued. “And our inability to get that [information] simply empowers not only this president, but future presidents, to be bold in their disrespect for the law.”

Just like collusion, there was no obstruction. If Dems had a brain among themselves, they’d just move on. A few want to do that, but there are enough who are hanging on like a 10 year old refusing to give their blankie.

Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) said Mueller, in choosing “to punt” on the obstruction question has likely shifted the balance of powers toward the executive branch — at least in the near term.

“He had the opportunity to make a decision about obstruction, and he chose to punt,” Connolly said.

“And so we — at Mueller’s own hand here — we have seen further accretion of executive power, when he could have helped fortify constraints, checks and balances,” he added. “And I think that’s an almost-tragic missed opportunity, because he pulled his punches.”

This keeps going on and on and on, but, the phrase “hoist on your own petard” comes to mind. Democrats thought they had a way to give rid of Trump due to the TDS of losing to him in 2016, but, never though about the implications if Mueller declared there was no there there. They aren’t concerned about future presidents having power, at least when they are Democrats. They’re worried about Trump doing Trump. They really should have considered the whole thing before going nuts with a manufactured dossier.

Oh, and backing Obama on every executive over-reach during his time in office.

Hooray, It’s Earth Hour Day Again

What’s that you say? You totally forgot, and didn’t see anything in the news? In fact, I had no idea until I saw

I peruse Google news and Twitter looking for “climate change” daily. I hit several Warmist websites. And hadn’t seen anything about it. I did not run across anything about Earth Hour till page 9 on Google news looking for articles within the last 24 hours

EARTH HOUR 2019: WHY YOU SHOULD TURN YOUR LIGHTS OFF, AND WHEN TO DO IT

People around the world are set to turn off their lights on Saturday evening for Earth Day, acknowledging the threat that climate change poses to our planet.

Joining in is easy: simply turn off your lights at 8:30 p.m. local time on 30 March.

Earth Hour was first held in Sydney, Australia, in 2007. Now, monuments from New York’s Empire State Building to the Eiffel Tower in Paris go dark to raise awareness of how individual actions have the potential to create a tidal wave of change.

Wait a minute, hold on there. We are constantly told that individual actions are meaningless, that the only way to solve Hotcoldwetdry is for Government to pass all sorts of laws that implement taxes, fees, and control of our lives and businesses and the economy

Dr. Joanna I. House, reader in environmental science and policy at the University of Bristol, told Newsweek: “Our children are telling us loudly and strongly they want us to do something about the climate change we are causing to protect their future. Earth Hour is an important opportunity to show that even little things can make a big difference when enough of us do them.”

But Earth Hour is just that: one hour. Dr. Rebecca Elliot, assistant professor in the department of sociology whose research focuses on viewing climate change as an economic problem, highlighted to Newsweek: “The kinds of challenges we face demand collective, rather than individual, solutions: transformations to our infrastructure, supply chains, energy systems, and economic institutions.”

See? So, what’s he point of turning off a few lights for one hour?

Judge Rules California’s Ban On “Large Capacity Magazines” Un-Constitutional

See, according to gun grabbers, 10 round magazines are safe. 11 rounds are doom

Prop. 63: Federal judge declares California’s ban on high-capacity gun magazines unconstitutional

A federal judge on Friday declared unconstitutional a key provision of California’s Proposition 63 that banned possession of high-capacity gun magazines often used in mass shootings, ensuring that the voter-approved prohibition will remain tied up in court for some time to come.

San Diego-based U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez wrote in his 86-page decision, upholding a lawsuit against the proposed ban of magazines holding more than 10 rounds, that such a statute “hits at the center of the Second Amendment and its burden is severe.”

“Individual liberty and freedom are not outmoded concepts,” he wrote. (snip)

A 2000 law had already made it illegal for Californians to buy or sell magazines that hold more than 10 cartridges, but it allowed people who already owned them to keep them. Prop. 63, among other provisions which tightened ammo regulations, went a step further by requiring anyone who owned such magazines to turn them in, remake them to comply with the law, or send them out of state.

That law never took effect as it was pending lawsuits, and now the whole scheme about restricting magazine size has been stopped. Expect suits in other states.

In his Friday ruling, the judge cited three home invasions in which women fought against the attackers and, he said, would have been more effective if they’d had higher-capacity gun magazines. He wrote that although mass shootings are “tragic,” they are far less prevalent than robberies, aggravated assaults and homicides in homes — and those more common crimes sometimes require maximum firepower because “unless a law-abiding individual has a firearm for his or her own defense, the police typically arrive after it is too late.

“The size limit (on magazines) directly impairs one’s ability to defend one’s self,” he wrote.

The judge has specifically enjoined California AG Xavier Becerra from enforcing the magazine ban, especially since Becerra attempted to defend the law using ….. articles from Mother Jones, rather than actual studies. The judge rips Becerra for this, going as far as explaining that “this is a federal court.” There’s a good thread at Twitchy from Gabrial Malor, who breaks down the ruling, as it is based on the Supreme Court’s Heller decision

Becerra will surely appeal, though he’ll have to get better material to back up his legal position. And, again, you can bet lawsuits will soon be filed against all states that have magazine bans.
