Good Grief: Everytown Links AI To Make Gun Attacks Worse

No one should be surprised that groups who use fearporn would glom on to the AI doom prognostications, right?

A new AI report raises a question few Americans expected to ask

A new report is raising tough questions about whether artificial intelligence could make violent attacks more dangerous in the future. The report, released by gun safety advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety, says some people have already used AI chatbots while planning shootings and other harmful acts. According to the report, AI companies should strengthen safety tools before more tragedies occur, USA TODAY reported.

One case highlighted in the report involves former Florida State University student Phoenix Ikner, who is charged in a 2025 campus shooting that left two people dead and five others wounded. Court records cited in lawsuits claim Ikner asked ChatGPT questions about firearms, ammunition and busy areas on campus before the attack. His conversations with the chatbot have become part of ongoing legal battles, The Palm Beach Post said.

Asking ChatGPT for this is the same as doing searches: all it does is pull existing information together. Nothing nefarious about it. It doesn’t give more info than you could find at multiple articles. It didn’t tell Ikner to do it.

Everytown says the problem goes beyond one case. The organization points to other lawsuits and research suggesting some chatbots can provide dangerous information or reinforce harmful thinking. Researchers with the Center for Countering Digital Hate found that many chatbots tested were willing to help users posing as teens plan violent attacks, Yahoo! said.

AI companies say their systems are designed to reject violent requests and direct people toward help when needed. OpenAI has argued in court filings that ChatGPT discourages violence and did not knowingly assist any attack planning.

I’m just wondering how Everytown will work AI into their gun banning schtick.

Meanwhile, the Washington Post explains when to use AI and when not to, like you’re 10

When you should use Google’s AI for search — and when you should skip it

After years of Google trying to force-feed AI to me in web search, I have to admit that I’ve developed a taste for it — on some plates and in limited servings.

Based on how thoroughly “AI Overview” results have taken over Google, the company clearly sees AI as central to virtually every aspect of making sense of the web. You, however, are under no obligation to follow Google’s lead — or to use it at all, since such search competitors as Microsoft’s Bing and the privacy-focused DuckDuckGo still focus on traditional web links.

But if you, like most people, mostly depend on Google for search, you should still know what its implementation of AI is — and is not — good for.

Short answer: Google’s AI search features — and the Gemini chatbot you can use in your browser — do better at things that old-school Google has often done worse.

The article then provides types of searches like “The answer you want isn’t in one place or just a few places on the web” and Explains. While it is actually good information for a Yute, it’s tiresome that the Credentialed Media tries to Explain how to do everything. Quite frankly, I will often skip to the Google AI bit when I do some searches, then dive deeper if I need to. That’s it. It’s helpful at times, not at others. I’m an adult. I’ll search how I want.

El Nino Is Blamed For Lack Of September Hurricanes

I’m actually surprised that CNN didn’t try and work some blame on ‘climate change’ in, but, maybe they thought that would just be too much?

El Niño just gave us the first no-hurricane September in decades. How long can the Atlantic shutout last?

The Atlantic Ocean has failed to produce a hurricane in the month of September for the first time in more than 30 years, the latest feat by a super El Niño widely predicted to become the strongest ever.

Only three other Septembers have gone hurricane-free in the Atlantic in records dating back to 1950. It last happened in 1994, and before that in 1972 and 1962, according to Dr. Phil Klotzbach, a hurricane expert with Colorado State University.

Really, it probably goes back further

That is mentioned much later in the article

The numbers have been stark. The average for a season is seven hurricanes, and we should have seen five of them by now. Last year was below average, with five hurricanes — but four had already shown up by the start of October, three of which came in September.

September is usually prime time for hurricanes because storm-fueling warm water is at its most expansive and hottest alongside ripe atmospheric factors. About two to three hurricanes develop in the month on average.

This El Niño-stifled season had already blown past the most reliable record for the longest wait for the first hurricane to materialize, and the lack of any as October begins sets the stage for an even rarer possibility: an entire Atlantic season without hurricanes.

CNN then spends time blaming the super El Nino, but, they seem to be missing a big factor, or, maybe this is why they did not bring up anthropogenic global warming: if the El Nino can do this, maybe most of the weather that happens is mostly caused by nature.

Court Rules To Reopen Case Of Detained Illegal Alien Basketball Player

Because, apparently, some people are above the law, particularly if they are an illegal alien

Women’s basketball player detained by ICE will have case reopened, court rules

Aminata Seck, a women’s basketball player for Kentucky State University who is from Senegal, remains in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody, but will have her immigration case reopened.

Memphis Immigration Court Judge Kelly Lake granted a motion on Wednesday, Sept. 30, to reopen Seck’s immigration proceedings. In granting the motion, the judge found that Seck had demonstrated that she did not receive the notice of removal that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said it served on Sept. 8, 2025.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse, and she had to know that she was unlawfully present. A notice of removal doesn’t just come out of thin air

The ruling by the judge in Memphis paves the way for Seck to present her case through the immigration process, and her petition for a writ of habeas corpus remains pending in federal court in the Western District of Kentucky. Seck’s appearance in immigration court is set for Nov. 20.

Alsalman said his next steps include filing a motion for a bond hearing.

It’s all so absurd. She’s here illegally. She needs to be sent packing, and, then, if she wants to apply for a VISA she can

In a statement provided to USA TODAY Sports on Sept. 23, DHS said Seck legally entered the country on Sept. 1, 2019, through Los Angeles on a temporary basis.

“She chose to overstay her welcome in violation of our nation’s laws,” DHS said. “To be clear: a pending application or work authorization does not confer legal status in the United States. … Being in detention is a choice.”

She can leave at any time if she tells them she wants to leave the United States.

In a statement provided to USA TODAY Sports last week, Rep. Morgan McGarvey – a Democrat representing Kentucky’s 3rd Congressional District – said his office is monitoring Seck’s situation.

“Aminata is a student-athlete who was arrested by ICE at the airport while traveling with her teammates,” McGarvey said. “The Trump Administration’s cruelty knows no bounds, but we will never let this become normal and we won’t stop fighting for her.”

Democrats seem to have more statements protecting illegals than in trying to help Americans.

Your Fault: The Glorious Smell Of Rain Is Changing Due To Global Boiling

This is a new one

How climate change is altering petrichor, the glorious smell after it rains

The distinct, earthy smell that fills the air after rain following a long dry spell can trigger some serious nostalgia. This scent, petrichor, goes right to our brain’s memory and emotional centers for reasons that may be to do with our very evolution. But as climate change alters Earth’s weather and environment, petrichor is going to transform, too.

(A couple of paragraphs on where the smell comes from and why it is so easy to smell)

Exactly how petrichor changes will depend on where you are as the effects of rising global temperatures on weather and climate patterns will vary from place to place and year to year. Overall, parts of the world that get more rainfall will experience less petrichor, whereas areas that have droughts will experience more, says Jeppe Lund Nielsen, a professor of microbial physiology at Aalborg University in Denmark.

You mean normal weather? Oh, but, this doom is coming in the future.

America.gov Launches Chatbot, UK Guardian Launches TDS

It’s wild how the default thought of liberals in the Credentialed Media is to go to Orange Man Bad

Trump’s AI chatbot turns on its master

Donald Trump, in a development that could almost be from a Greek tragedy, appears to have invented something that is willing to do what no one in his orbit will: tell him the truth.

The president launched America.gov on Tuesday, an AI platform which the White House says will make it easier for Americans to interact with the federal government and eventually complete services like renewing passports and enrolling in Medicare.

At the heart of the website is a chatbot. You plug in questions. It gives you answers.

No conspiracy, no mystery, just a gift from a Russian oligarch

Unfortunately for Trump, America.gov – which, according to the executive order he signed, is a place where Americans can “receive accurate answers” to all sorts of questions – is providing the kind of answers that he will not want to hear. It stands ready to debunk his false claims on all sorts of things, including election fraud, inflation and the impact of wind turbines on whales.

I would really recommend testing it out, as I did on Tuesday. I started off by asking Trump’s flagship product: Who won the 2020 election? Trump, famously and wrongly, argues that he did.

These people are so tedious. And insane. Make asylums great again. Bring in trained psychologists and psychiatrists.

Late Night Is Skeptical of A.I. Leaders Self-Regulating

President Trump met with tech leaders on Tuesday, with Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos among the attendees who signed a voluntary agreement to adopt A.I. safety policies. “They’re really going to be policing each other,” Mr. Trump said on Tuesday afternoon outside the White House.

Jordan Klepper likened the White House luncheon to “the last supper if everyone there believed they were the son of God” on Wednesday’s “Daily Show.”

“You want them to police themselves? Zuckerberg can’t even police my aunt from commenting on all of my pictures: ‘This is not a text message, Aunt Diane, you’re on my Instagram page. Everyone can see this,’.” — JORDAN KLEPPER

“I’m not saying that this self-policing document they signed is [expletive] that they barely bothered to read, but I will say they did misspell ‘United States.’” — JORDAN KLEPPER

Of course the NY Times goes to the Late Show for their Authority on AI stuff.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom bans AI ‘robo bosses’ in landmark state law, reversing his earlier veto

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a landmark AI law banning Golden State employers from relying solely on artificial intelligence to fire or discipline workers.

SB 947, dubbed the No Robo Bosses Act, prevents businesses around the state from exclusively using “automated decision-making systems” in matters of employee discipline and termination. It also restricts their capacity to use AI as a principal tool in such decisions.

Under the bill, employers that rely “primarily” on AI output to make termination or disciplinary decisions must now have a human reviewer corroborate those decisions using additional information, such as managerial evaluations, peer reviews, and personnel files. Additionally, affected employees must be provided with written notice that AI was “primarily used” in their termination or disciplinary decision, a description of the employee data used by the system, and a human point of contact who can further explain the decision.

Has that ever happened? Apparently there is software which manages employees in this way, but, has this actually happened?

Corporate Climate (scam) Pledges Are Evolving Or Something

By evolving, US News and World Report mostly means “dumping them”

Corporate Climate Change Pledges Are Shifting and Evolving

Reporting this week that Starbucks has quietly but aggressively rolled back many of its sustainability targets has turned a spotlight on corporate climate pledges and how they have evolved in recent years.

The Financial Times reported Tuesday that Starbucks has revised or abandoned pledges to cut waste and water use in half, even as it reconsiders a goal to reduce carbon emissions by a similar amount.

The newspaper also reported that Starbucks executives focused on sustainability have been particularly hard hit by job cuts at the company over the last two years.

The news was particularly striking because the Seattle-based coffee giant has cultivated an eco-friendly image for years, making green commitments a central element of its corporate identity.

That Starbucks is doing this shows that even the most extreme companies are realizing that it’s a scam, it costs too much money, and the purpose of the business it to make money. Oh, and that people really care about this stuff less and less in the real world, and consumers do not want to pay for the cult activism of companies

The environmental consultancy firm Trellis recently reported that while Walmart cut its overall carbon emissions in 2025, it has also revised overall green commitments, in some cases postponing the target dates for specific goals.

In July, a New York Times analysis cited Pepsi, Coca-Cola and Kraft Heinz along with steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal among corporate giants that “moved the goal posts” when initial climate pledges proved difficult or impossible to honor.

Companies are moving away from placating the climate nuts, because, let’s be honest, while a lot of people care in theory about ‘climate change’, they don’t care that much and companies having pledges means jack squat to them.

Excellent: Judge Rules Islamist Mosque President Can Be Deported

The US has all these people in the nation who are not citizens, just hanging around as “permanent residents”, who seem to hate the US and support terrorism. Would liberals support deporting someone who is a full on supporter of Putin?

US immigration judge allows cold war-era law to deport Wisconsin mosque’s president

An immigration judge has ruled that the president of Wisconsin’s largest mosque can be deported under a controversial, cold-war era law the Trump administration has sought to wield against foreign nationals who have been outspoken about Palestinian rights.

Salah Sarsour, a US permanent resident for nearly three decades, was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement in March. He was released after a federal judge found he had probably been detained in retaliation of his advocacy for Palestinian rights, which the federal judge said would render his detention unlawful.

Despite that ruling, the administration pressed forward and fast-tracked Sarsour’s immigration case – a separate legal track – and on Tuesday night an immigration judge ruled he is “removable”.

Judge Jayme Salinardi, who was brought in from out of state to oversee the case, announced he would be retiring shortly after issuing the decision.

Obviously, his lawyers and the other Islamic terrorism supporters will appeal

The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but claimed before that Sarsour was “suspected of funding terror organizations and lying on immigration forms”. He has denied both claims.

In a statement issued shortly after his arrest, the DHS cited Sarsour’s decades-old military court convictions in Israel for, it said, “throwing a Molotov cocktail at the homes of Israeli armed forces and illegally attempting to possess weapons and ammunition”.

Double obviously, the UK Guardian takes his side against Israel, claiming the conviction was coerced and such. He never should have been allowed in the US, and, really, post 9/11, people like Sarsour should have been booted.

Awesome: Florida Designates Antifa, CAIR, Muslim Brotherhood As Terrorist Orgs

They get it: when will others?

Florida OKs terror designations for CAIR, antifa, Muslim Brotherhood

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), antifa and the Muslim Brotherhood will be labeled domestic terrorist organizations under a new state law, after Florida leaders OK’d the designations at their Sept. 29 meeting.

These designations were in a 427-page packet submitted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for approval by Gov. Ron DeSantis and Florida Cabinet members: Attorney General James Uthmeier, Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson and state Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia.

The packet also named numerous other groups labeled by the federal government as foreign terrorist organizations. (snip)

The law not only allows the state to issue these designations, but also mandates universities to expel students who “promote” these groups. It also restricts schools affiliated with domestic terror groups from participating in the state’s school voucher program, which grants taxpayer-funded scholarships for parents to enroll their child in a school of their choice.

Now, the organizations have seven days after receiving the notice to object to the designation. The group can also petition FDLE to remove the designation, or it can appeal the designation in the 2nd Judicial Circuit.

Is Amtifa a terrorist group? They use violence for political means, which does make them terrorists, rather than simply a criminal gang. CAIR is backed by the Muslim Brotherhood, which is certainly a terrorist group, one which is against everything America stands for. Hell, there’s a reason they are banned in Egypt.

Of course, the Usual Useful Idiots are proclaiming this is Fascism!!!!!, never seeming to understand that the Islamists are using them to push the Islamist agenda.
