The extremist anti-abortion group The Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine made the argument before our Supreme Court today that mifepristone should be banned because some hospital emergency doctors may/might/perhaps “be forced” to complete an incomplete abortion following mifepristone administration!
Of course, medical professionals already have federal protections from being forced to perform procedures they find morally objectionable.
It didn’t sound as if even the most conservative justices were buying the argument. But who knows how this court will rule. Also at issue is whether our FDA has regulatory authority to decide the safety and efficacy of drugs. The alternative is to have the courts or (shudder) politicians regulate drug safety.

According to the British Medical Journal, in advanced nations, 9 of 10 abortions occur by week 12.
The CDC found “93.5% of abortinos were performed at <13 weeks gestation; 5.7% were performed at 14-20 weeks gestation". That's 99.2% by 20 weeks gestation.
The Kaiser Family Foundation speculates that the the state level abortion bans are causing abortions later in gestation!

Donald Trump has suggested a a federal law to allow abortion through 15 or 16 weeks gestation. Why is he suggesting it? His supporters will support him regardless of his policy proposals. Trump hopes that reversing the conservative desire to ban abortions will garner him some votes from female independent voters. How is that NOT trading babies for votes?
Regarding compromise: I would welcome a federal law permitting abortions through 15 or 16 weeks gestation as long as after that time abortion is available for the health of the mother. Seriously, would you require a women with a dead fetus to deliver naturally. Roe v Wade was a compromise that permitted unrestricted abortions through the first trimester (12 weeks) and permitted state restrictions in the 2nd trimester and banned 3rd trimester abortions except for the health of the mother.
