California County Says They Will Not Enforce PRC Anti-Gun Law

Sutter County is a small county of about 100K people which typically votes Republican. Trump won 57.16% to 40.73%. It’s also just barely to the north of the People’s Republik Of California capitol of Sacramento

New gun laws won’t be enforced by Sutter County Sheriff’s Office: “We have no interest in criminalizing constitutionally protected behavior”

Days after a federal appeals court ruled to temporarily uphold a new California law that bans carrying guns in public spaces, the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office announced they will look at each circumstance on a case-by-case basis.

“We have no interest in criminalizing constitutionally protected behavior,” said Sutter County Sheriff Brandon Barnes and Sutter County District Attorney Jennifer R. Dupré in a joint social media post on Wednesday. “We took an oath to uphold our Constitution and will work to protect the rights of our citizens.”

The controversy stems from Senate Bill 2, which became law on Jan. 1. The new law bans licensed concealed gun holders (CCW) from carrying their firearms at bars, places of worship, parks, public events, stadiums, casinos, financial institutions, medical facilities, on public transportation, and other public places.

On Dec. 26, 2023, a federal judge blocked the new California gun control law from taking effect on Jan. 1, however, days later, a federal appeals court reversed that decision while the issue went through litigation.

They law basically stops law abiding citizens who’ve passed federal background checks and other measures from being able to carry concealed out of their homes. Do people need to carry in some of those places mentioned? It should mostly be up to the individual venue. Bars? Certainly not if you are drinking. Casinos? Probably not. It’s “other public places” that is the issue

(PBS) The California Pistol and Rifle Association’s president, Chuck Michel, said in a statement that under the law, gun permit holders “wouldn’t be able to drive across town without passing through a prohibited area and breaking the law.” Michel said criminals are deterred when law-abiding citizens can defend themselves.

Just about anywhere a legal gun owner goes would be illegal. Private businesses are allowed to put up signs stating that concealed carry is OK, otherwise, the permit holders may not go into any store. Will other sheriff’s in the Republican leaning counties follow Sutter?

Sure, let’s make every place a “gun-free” zone.
    It’s worked so well elsewhere.
The stupid is strong in Cacafornia.

It’s not stupid. It just a block they have to check to fundamentally transform the USA into a communist country. The Left doesn’t even remember why it is on their list, only that it is. The stupid part is that the Left in America are still following their Soviet paymasters last instructions before they went radio silent back in the 90’s.

This is essentially the same law that the Supreme Court invalidated in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v Bruen. New York City, however, made possession of a firearm illegal even in people’s homes unless they obtained a ‘premises permit.’

Israel has rather strict gun control laws, despite the fact that most adults have gone through military training and understand how to use, maintain, and store firearms. Because of that, the kibbutz near the border with Gaza had firearms, but those weapons were locked away in the armories, rather than in people’s homes. If the kibbutzim had had those weapons at home, the October 7th terrorists would have met withering gunfire rather than unarmed and mostly helpless civilians. That the attack would have failed spectacularly is obvious, though it would probably never have been launched in the first place.

While many rural sheriff’s in Kali will likely not enforce such ridiculous laws the CHP who are everywhere will do so without hesitation. And there are other state agencies that will do so also…such as the fish cops who act as if NOTHING in the Constitution applies to them.
