Mars CEO sees ‘moral’ duty in tackling climate change

The new chief executive of Mars, maker of M&M’s sweets, chewing gum and pet food, says companies have a “moral” duty to reduce their environmental footprint as the world battles climate change.

Poul Weihrauch, a Dane who took the reins of the US-based group in September, acknowledges that the food industry has a big impact on the environment, with its plastic wrappers and its contribution to deforestation and carbon emissions.

Big companies have a “massive opportunity” to have an impact against climate change, Weihrauch told AFP.

“It’s an important area of development for Mars to be known for changing the curve and not only talk about it,” he said in an interview in Paris.

The family-owned multinational, whose brands include the Mars and Snickers chocolate bars, Pedigree pet food and Wrigley’s chewing gum, aims to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

If it’s such a moral duty, then why wait till 2050? Why not do it right now, Poul? You can start by reducing your own personal carbon footprint, no more fossil fueled flights or vehicles. Put up a ton of solar panels and wind turbines to power the factories. Ship the materials via sailing ships. Move the finished products by electric trucks. But, we all know that it’s a scam, hence the 2050 date. They’ll trot out some plans and pledges, but, never really do anything but purchase some carbon credits, and pass on the cost to the consumer.

There is strong correlation between age and climate change denial
Only about 30% over the age of 55 think it is a major problem. 70% under 55 do think it is a problem.
    Times change faster than people

Young people are much more susceptible to propaganda. And basically very dumb.

Johnny-what exactly are they denying that there’s any proof for? And anyway, this is supposed to be science, so what people “think” is largely irrelevant

Sorry fool, time and people change at the same rate only the results differ. After all there is 24 hours in every humans day. Period.

There’s also a strong correlation between age and wanting a pony for you birthday. With age and maturity comes wisdom. Well, maybe not for leftists. https://youtu.be/I8KAO_eCouI

Wilde was correct. The entire democommie party proves that.

As a practicing homo and married at the same time his lifestyle (drugs, alcohol and indiscriminate gay sex) got him diseased and imprisoned. He was only in his mid forties when he died of meningitis (most likely syphilis) He realized what he had become. Sad.

One of my personal favorites is “The Picture of Dorian Gray”. He was a flaming faggot but seems not a pedophile. Unusual for his type, but a credit to his morality nonetheless. In the end he was exactly what he had created of himself.

Wilde was correct. The entire MAGAt movement proves that.

Mr Wilde was imprisoned for homosexual acts and was weakened during his two years at labor in prison. At his release, he immediately moved to France.

Do you think that gay men should be imprisoned today in the U.S.?

He died of cerebral meningitis, presumed to be contracted from surgery in France to correct damage suffered from a prison “accident”.

Mr Wilde, rake and roue that he was, left more to the world in his 40 odd years than our own rake and roue, Donald Jesus Trump, will in his 70 odd years.

We still repeat Mr Wilde’s epigrams. “The truth is rarely pure and never simple”.
